Bertha's is, to me, why Yelp matters. Here is a little independent shop on the 9th floor of the Tribune Tower. It would be very difficult to find on your own, and if you did, you'd want some information before making an appointment. Well, I got that information and made an appointment and I certainly am glad I did. The experience was perfect. The cut was perfect and above and beyond with the beard trim, etc. It was a family affair and I even got a hug from Bertha when I left. I am from FL so I just googled and this salon showed up. Bertha was so nice and made me feel special. Her husband was there and the NFL was on the TV. I called at 4 pm and she was able to fit me in for 6 same day. Jordania did my hair. I saw her do a blow out on the previous customer and it was so pretty I was happy to have her do mine. This is my first yelp review ever, simply because my experience here was so wonderful, it blew me away. I got my hair cut by Alma who couldn't have been more patient or kind. I was changing styles and my hair is really hard to cut since it is so wild and wavy, but she did a great job. One hour later i was looking in the mirror and i decided i made a mistake and i'd like to go a little shorter so i called back and she took me right away. Not only was she extremely accomodating, but she Absolutely NAILED IT. This is the best i have looked in almost ten years. I would hive this a 10 out of 5 if i could. As if it could t get any better... Both she and the owner refused profusely that i would pay again or even tip- i tried but they kept insisting no! I will be back every month from here on. I made an appointment for 30 minutes later, and when I walked into Bertha's small area (with a nice waiting room) I was impressed with the simplicity of it all - right on the Mag Mile. When she saw my relative lack of hair she gave me $5 off - unsolicited. I'll go back regularly and tell others about it. Bertha has a nice manner and personality, she makes it easy and convenient. Although my sessions are shorter now, both Bertha and Alma are as friendly and patient as ever, if I want something done differently.
