Caitlyn is a massage wizard. I suffer from shoulder, back, and neck pain, particularly knots. I asked for some opinions on NextDoor and went with Body Techniques for the ease of the same day appointment scheduling. The parking is great, I had no trouble finding the suite, and the front desk check-in folks were great. I was immediately whisked into a room and asked whether I wanted full body massage or focus on the troubled areas. I chose to focus on those knots and Caitlyn SURE DELIVERED. I've never had a deep tissue massage as great as the ones I have received from Caitlyn. I believe a good deep tissue involves some watery eyes/tears when that knot feels the pressure from experienced fingers, elbows, hands, etc. Caitlyn has this crazy ability to find the knot and press it EXACTLY where it needs to be pressed. I leave there feeling sore, but with more mobility than I came in with. This is my new place. read more

Love this place, the ONLY reason they don't get five stars is because they don't have a locker room or a place to shower. I get massages once or twice a month and this is THE BEST value I have ever seen. The atmosphere is inviting & calming. My massage therapist really listened to me and focused in on my trouble areas. The place was a little off the main path, so you didn't get any of the road noice you sometimes get at city spas. And then there is the best part, you get a expensive spa experience for around $50!!! I think I got a better massage here than at Burke WIlliams in San Francisco for third of the price. Love it, recommend it & will go again! read more

I'm often referred to as a "city snob", okay - I admit it, I am. But for massage--- hands down -- Body Techniques! It was worth the trek across the bay, and I'll be back for more! I've had plenty of massages in the city, and they have all been 'fine', but never memorable. Yesterday's massage at Body Techniques turned my anxious personality into jello! I went in super sore from an ultimate frisbee tournament and got a fantastic sports massage from Mary. She also gave me some helpful tips for stretches and recovery tips after hard workouts. This was my first visit to Body Techniques. It was also the first time I have ever been to an Acupuncturist. I have some health issues and nothing in general medicine has helped. I also have a fear of needles. But not any more. Hamid Malek-Madani is wonderful. He listened very closely to my issue with needles. He is very understanding and gentle. His knowledge and years of experience helped put me at ease. Hamid made my initial introduction to Acupuncture very smooth and relaxing. I would highly recommend Hamid. My wife gave me a Groupon massage as an Anniversary present, so I booked an appointment, and I was assigned Mike-H as my therapist. Previously, I had taken a look at their therapists' profiles in their website, and had decided to ask for her, since she seemed to be the most appropriate one to treat my chronic shoulder/neck pain condition, and whose schedule matched mine, but I guess if you have a Groupon, you have no choice, so I was very happy I got her even if it was just by chance. Their place is a bit hard to find, but I was warned by the receptionist, so I could still make it a little earlier. Once you get there, the atmosphere is very calm and relaxing. Mike-H came in just after me. She called me in on time, and asked me what my goals were and how I wanted her to approach the session. And she listened to me, you can tell, because she did just what I had asked her for, focusing on my particular needs, and making sure she is addressing the right spots, and applying the right pressure. I could feel her commitment, and her being present, besides her technical skills, and to me, this is very important. The session lasted the whole 60 minutes, which I greatly appreciate too. Many other places sell you 60 minutes, but then, between the assessment, the undressing, waiting for the therapist to walk in, and the dressing times, you usually walk out with a 45-50 minute long real massage session at best. Here I did not feel shortchanged. After the session, she also gave me some advise on how to further take care or my aching spots myself, and some practical tips. Mike-h is a very personable and warm person, and a very professional therapist, committed to her career and her clients. I am very grateful for my wife's gift choice, and for having gotten Mike-H as my therapist, even if it was only by chance. read more

Been here multiple times. I usually go for a deep tissue/sports massage. I've tried about three-five different massage therapists whom all been phenomenal; they listen to my concerns and apply the right amount of pressure that I'm comfortable with. The prices are very fair. read more

My wife and I made appointments for massages with Dawn and Lance with also email confirmations. When we arrived we were given two other masseuses. Apparently the manager switched us to other masseuse, based on notes it was Groupon, even though this was cash value since our groupon expired. They gave us no option but to receive massages with whomever they made available. Fearful to lose our Groupon cash value since they took down our Groupon numbers at the time we made our appointments, and also based on previous Yelper's reviews that their 24 hours cancellation policy will be enforced, we just got the massage with whomever they gave us. This is an intentional discrimination on Groupon users, since the manager did not even call us to let us know of the change. If the switch gave us a decent massage, this review will be different. The manager did not acknowledge that it was their mistake. From reading previous Yelp reviews, it does not appear to be an isolated incident Groupon users beware of the bait and switch tactic. The masseuse you booked may not be the one you get upon arrival. I can describe this experience as ordering a medium rare steak but getting well done dry steak. read more

Though I've had very good experiences in the past at Body Techniques with massage services, the experience I had last week and the resulting lack of response from their owners/customer service has been deplorable. I splurged on a 90-minute reflexology massage as a treat for myself last Monday afternoon. I had only one small knot in my left scapula. The therapist focused for most of the 90 minutes on that one spot, chatting as much as a hair stylist (not my ideal for what I had planned as a relaxing respite). About a day later, I began having pain in my left wrist and thumb and total weakness on that side if I try to lift anything (and, in fact, typing this is painful as well). I called to see what they can do to help me on Thursday, Friday and now again, today, Saturday. Each time I've left a message for the "owner" and I have not yet received a response in any form. To say I'm disappointed is a gross understatement. I am injured as a result of a therapeutic massage. Know that you're risking your health & wasting your time and money here, with horrible customer service if anything goes wrong. I will never spend a dollar or minute more on services from this place. read more

Two things that changed my life this year...my new dentist and POM from Body Techniques. It's been over a month and I am STILL IN AWE over my massage experience with him. I've had my fair share of massages/body work being an ex Div I Athlete but have NEVER experienced such a mind blowing flow of energy /combination of stretching & deep tissue massage like I did with Pom. It was truly a life altering experience. I walked in. Pom asked me if there was anything bothering me. I told him about my long time issue with one of my hip joints not rotating. Imagine what kind of stress that can put on your body. He responded with something along the lines of, " I will be able to see what is wrong and will go from there". YES...someone who will be able to figure out why I feel so mechanically wrong without me having to explain. And that is when my 60 minutes of pure bliss began...an un-interrupted conscious feeling of the flow of energy go through my body as Pom worked to unblock any areas that were causing me to be unbalanced . I bought the Groupon to try out Body Techniques. I am impressed. Clean facility, friendly staff, adequate number of classes. There are several outstanding teachers, Sage, Sylvia, Gina, but Nicolette is the best IMO. She combines yoga with physical therapy, self massage, balls and all sort of interesting techniques that makes her practice different from most other classes. I always learn something new from her; I guess that's the definition of a good teacher. In addition to being smart, caring and passionate about her teaching, she is also funny, plays great music, and stays away from delivering those "inspirational" little talks that can get so annoying sometimes. I highly recommend both the place and the teachers I mentioned here. I hope they add more classes on the weekend. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a facial. I had never had a facial before, so I wasn't sure what to expect. My esthetician was Kate, who was amazing! She was very soothing, never rushed, and carefully explained to me each and every step prior to touching my face. She was also very personable--getting to know me and even giving me advice on my love life. I can tell she truly cares about her clients! She gave me great tips on how to prevent acne breakouts and the type of skin regimen that is best for me. Thank you, Kate, for giving me such a wonderful first-time facial experience. I am a total massage junkie... I LOVE massages, it's perhaps the worst kind of addiction because it's just sooo good you have to keep coming back and spend mucho dinero, which I'm not a big fan of. Anyhoo, I went to body techniques as part of a yelp promo and it was like $40 for an hour and I was pregnant at the time so I got someone who "specialized" in prenatal massage. Being pregnant I had some MAJOR back pain but the guy totally focuses on my arms and shoulders. I'm like okay, I circled the bodyman and circled my back, shoulders and feet, classic pregnancy areas, but nope, got the arms and shoulders. I mean, it felt good, in THAT area, but the rest of it sucked. In terms of the atmosphere when you check in it's kind of weird because they ask you who you are and then just say ok. Then it's like ummm what now? AND as you stand there waiting for them to tell you they just sort of stare back, then a light clicks on and they say that someone will be with you. So you can sit in the chair in front of the desk and have them just look at you or wander out into the next room where you can make yourself a cup of tea and read some mags. When the massage is over the person leaves and it was weird because I had to go "find him" to give him his tip. I really didn't want to since I wasn't so happy, but what kind of person would I be if I didn't tip? read more

I went to Body Techniques for 2 years. The massage therapists couldn't name the muscles they were working on, except for one named Kathy. The owner would leave on vacation with no one in charge - that's really irresponsible. The owner also said his massage therapists were some of the best in the business. I seriously doubt the owner had the rankings of every single massage therapist in the state of California memorized in his head. The owner said his prices were lower than other massage businesses. That may be true, but you get what you pay for. One of his therapists revealed to him confidential information about my personal life. Even though massage therapists are not held to the same legal and ethical standards that doctors are, there is a reasonable expectation of privacy. This privacy was violated. read more

Mikeh is the B-O-M-B. I had originally asked for a male because I wanted someone with strong hands but she might as well be a male because she knew how to W-O-R-K it. Not that she is manly, not at all. Anyway, I told her I was nursing so I was a little bit embarrassed I might leak on her table and she said "girl, a little breastmilk never hurt nobody!" so now she is my all time favorite massage therapist. I have been here several times and had pretty good massages. I was a massage therapist for 18 years and I guess I'm a little picky but try to be open. I was told that my therapist had "years" of experience so I was very excited as I had not received a massage for many months due to work schedule and financial crunch. The place is very clean and inviting. My therapist asked me all the typical questions: Any areas they should be concerned about, injuries?, place needing extra work, etc. I specifically requested extra work on my feet and neck. The massage started out ok but she spent a tremendous amount of time on my back. When it came to my feet it was the worst foot massage I have ever had and very little time was spent on my neck. She stretched one side without really working the muscles first and I actually got a cramp and told her I needed to move my neck. I received approximately 60 seconds work on my legs (including upper and lower). This was a 90 minute massage and I wanted that all over work so one part of my body didn't feel left out. It's not a good massage when you're waiting for it to be over. I was really disappointed especially since the receptionist said she was a great therapist. $90 down the drain and still feeling like I need a massage...I suggest getting a reference from someone who had had a massage there and knows the therapist. You can tell she cares about her patients and her hands are like magic! She was so personable and her techniques were wonderful. She made me feel so comfortable and taught me so much. She even sent me home with homework to take better care of my body. I've spent so much for massages in the past and Body Techniques was so much more cost effective with splendid service. Had a couple's massage with April (the massage therapist assigned to my husband) and Cliffena (the massage therapist assigned to me). My husband liked his message, and mine was great! Cliffena did what a great massage therapist does -- she spends the time where it needs to be spent. In this case, that meant my overly tight trapezius muscles and neck muscles. It was more like a chiropractic alignment. I felt "put back together" when she finished. These ladies did a fabulous job. When I'm in the Bay, I will definitely stop in for another massage. I should not be posting this because I don't want competition, but I have to give this place props for having Teliah. The girl is AMAZING!!! I was getting a deep tissue massage from her and she stopped at my right shoulder. She told me there was a lot of tension and asked if there was an issue. My shoulder has been frozen for three years! I've had X-rays (even with the super painful contrast injections) MRI's, and physical therapy all with the same answer... there is nothing that they find, so there is nothing they can do about it. My collarbone sometimes pops out of place because it gets so bad. Teliah worked on it for a bit and when I got up, I was amazed... for the first time in three years my collarbone was completely back in place! I now have a membership so I am committed to getting a massage every month and I am so hopeful now that one day I will be able to throw a ball overhand for my dog to fetch. If you have a sports related injury that no one can find the answers for, she is the person to see! read more
