Halloween costume she altered for me.
    Lisa C.

Great place for alterations in Alameda. This is the fourth garment I've had altered at Best Alterations and the job was not easy. I had her work on a Medusa Halloween costume that was way to big for me in several places. There was also a difficult arm piece that required major construction and it came out so nicely. She charged me $52 however it was totally worth it because there were 4 areas within the costume that needed work. I also went last minute to get a dress hemmed for my trip to Cabo and she did it the same day since I found it shopping right before my trip and only charged me $15 and it was same day service. Emma is amazing and has great customer service. Only concern is that they have only one parking spot in front of their location for free 35 minute parking. However, it tends to get filled up a lot and there are houses/apartments next to the shop on the right hand side that take up the street parking. Therefore parking can be challenging at times but Emma's work is worth it.

They tailored the shoulders of the Saint Laurent jacket instead of the wrists, creating crooked and bulging seams.

Requested to shorten the sleeves of a designer jacket and we agreed on doing this at the wrists. The structure of the jacket was perfect and I didn't want to modify the shoulders. They altered the shoulders without permission, with poorly done work and bulging seams. The loss of quality in the jacket means I wouldn't trust them with anything of value again. Mostly upset they did this without discussion and that it was so poorly executed.

    Reconstructed jeans after downsizing waist

A+ for service and skill!! This was my first experience with the new person running the shop. I had a pair of jeans shortened with the original hem, and the first time I picked them up they were still a little long. I felt really bad for asking them to redo it, but she took it cheerfully and did not charge me to fix it. They came back perfect. The other reason for my review is the other pair of jeans, with a waist that was about 3 inches too big. They are made of very stiff denim, and I bought them despite the poor fit because we were traveling in Japan and they were part of a whole experience (customizing the patch, buttons, and rivets). Anyway, I don't know how she did it, but the jeans now fit perfectly and you can barely tell they were altered. She must have taken them completely apart because there are no visible darts or seams, no puckering, and perfectly matched thread. She is a genius. The pricing for the time it must have taken her to do the work is more than fair. I feel lucky to have this shop in Alameda!

The owner is so kind. I took many of my cloth to fix and shorten and they did a good job at a reasonable price.

There is one small dressing room and it can get a little backed up when it's noon on any day.

Unfortunately, my…read moreexperience was not positive so that was when I started looking into the 1 and 2 star reviews on Yelp and Google. They're all saying the same thing about Maria being disorganized and unreliable, which was exactly my experience. And based on reading the negative feedback, I noticed this lady tends to deflect blame. Never her fault. Always something else. I brought in two pairs of jeans for hemming and a wool coat that needed a lining added. Price was affordable. She gave me a week timeline to pick up. I originally planned to pick everything up on Saturday, but I called the next day (Sunday) and asked if I could pick up a day early on Friday instead. She said yes. Thursday came and I called them just to remind them as I've had experiences elsewhere in the past where things got forgotten and I didn't want to make a 25 min drive and finding out my stuff isn't ready. Lo and behold, when I called to remind her I'll be picking up the following day, she said Saturday so I reminded her I called her last Sunday to change to friday. She said okay, she's not busy so she can work on it. I showed up Friday at around 11. My stuff wasn't done. Her employees were working on it. At first she mentioned pick up was supposed to be Saturday. I repeated I've made phone calls prior to change to Friday and she said yes. Then she said I came too early. Say what? We never confirmed on a pickup time. Then she asked me to wait additional 40 minutes. And she argued with me, giving me an attitude. I let her know she was unprofessional and disorganized and this was before I read all the negative reviews. It frustrated me because she had the whole week to work on them and she didn't. Will not be taking my business here again. I do not recommend her business.

I never leave 1-star reviews, but this place has genuinely earned it…read more I came in before my wedding to get my suit altered and brought my bridal party along. I already had suits ordered and just needed minor work done. My own tailor had told me to expect no more than $40 for what I needed. This guy quoted me $200. When I said that was too high and that I'd take my business elsewhere, he turned on me and my friends and told us we had "wasted his time." He got hostile when I declined paying an overpriced quote. My friends felt so pressured that we ended up agreeing to a smaller amount of work. Even that was overpriced. And the quality? Absolutely unacceptable. The seams were visible. The stitching was clearly not done properly. And on my wedding day, the moment I stepped into my suit pants, the hem ripped completely. On my wedding day... This man was rude, his prices were outrageous, and his work fell apart literally on the most important day of my life. If you are considering coming here for anything, especially for a special occasion, please take my experience as a warning and go somewhere else. I would also avoid the Alameda Red Hanger Cleaners on South Shore, as they appear to be connected.

It looked as if that's exactly how the dress came in. At the appointment, the owner takes the time to understand how it's supposed look, and how you want it to fit. After the appointment, it was very easy to communicate with the owner. He responded promptly and was transparent. I had to schedule a last minute hemming request and it was done on time! If you're in a pickle, just call and see if he can do it. He will not schedule an appointment if he knows he cannot get it done on time, which I appreciate for being direct. I'll definitely come back but this time without any last minute requests!
