I ordered 2 Garmin Vivoactive GPS smartwatch bundle March 19 for my daughters 16th birthday. Day before store pick up received a back order notification. Went into the store April 1 and they offered another watch that doesn't have any of the Vivoactive features and is of lesser retail value ($80 less). No harm intended they don't know the watches. I asked for a manager. He said he couldn't do anything because the watch was not available anymore. Said they could only get the more expensive watch Garmin Vivoactive HR and he would give them to me for $200 each. Original watch i bought retails for $219 + heart monitor retails for $69. The bundle sale price for these items was $107.99. So for HR functionality, which I din't care about, they want an additional $82. Does this make sense to anyone? Went back later in the evening because online Best Buy has the Vivoactive white watch for sale online. This manager tells me he can order it may not come on. I have ordered it. If it doesn't come in then i suspect Bait and Switch. But honestly how is it a company so huge gets away with selling a product that may never ship? read more

They simply stopped trying. I won't spend money at Best Buy online or in person ever again. I just can't accept the lack of general knowledge, being ignored for 15 minutes on end or them losing the product that was on hold (again). The final straw was their $25 promotion for spending $250 on "in store pickup". I did everything correct never got anything (this is the SECOND promotional gift I have been screwed out of) and when I posted on their forums their Rep apologized and said he would look into it. I gave him the info he asked for, he never replied back. I also noticed tons of posts with the same subject "Never received $25 promotional gift for spending $250". This is a common practice that Best Buy adheres to, put out a promotion to get shoppers to spend, then simply don't give them the money after they buy. It seems to me they are just waiting for a Class Action Lawsuit so they can simply file for Chapter 11 and call it quits. I believe this chain will cease to exist in the next couple years. On a side note, I have had 3 different friends that got Best Buy Gift Cards from their companies ask if I wanted to buy them at a discount, they don't shop at Best Buy or have had bad experiences they said. I normally don't post reviews because I am a retail manager and I get how people can be overly sensitive or blame things on the employee when the situation is often out of the employee's control. However, I am writing today in the hopes that the store manager reads Yelp reviews and sees mine. I truly hope I walked into the store on an off day, as I refuse to believe that all of the employees act this way. Anyhow, I walked into the store looking for a specific item, and if it wasn't for me asking one of the LP guys at the door, I can say with confidence that I would not have been serviced by the four employees I walked by, three of which were chatting amongst themselves, and one of which was potentially walking to assist another guest. When I spoke to the LP guy at the door right when I entered, I understand he needs to stay there to prevent theft, but at least train the guy to call over another employee to show me where the specific item I'm looking for is located because this is what he said when I asked him where I could locate my item: "The item should be at least 75% of the way to the end of the racetrack on your right" is not going to work for an average guest who is looking for true customer service. You'll lose the sale. And you certainly lost the sale with me. I walked out of the store by all of the same employees once again, and specifically the LP guy at the door who made eye contact with me and let me walk out without asking something as simple as "Did you not find what you're looking for? Can I help you look for it online or check another store?" I am truly one of the most understanding people when it comes to employees being busy with other guests, or having to check on other things that the manager asks of them, but in this case it takes a manager to know when employees are not maximizing the customer service potential/ money you're company is putting into them and in this case it was me. Brick and mortar is definitely not getting any easier, and when the climate is so competitive, service is what will set you apart. When I get better service at Walmart in the next center over from a woman three times the age of every employee inside your store, it may be time to re-think your on boarding strategy. Make the experience count, try to personalize it, and engage your employees to adopt a more personalized, guest focused approach. read more

I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world, and they were very patient in putting up with all my questions. I ended up purchasing an HDTV and a laptop. Good God. I took my laptop in for possible repairs, and they took my name and email address so they could text me once they were ready. I waited an hour and forty minutes, and finally I went back to say I couldn't wait any longer. Then they said two people had been looking all over for me. WTF?!! I was literally two aisles away the whole time, looking at new computers. Wasted that afternoon for nothing. Then the gal offhand told me it could cost between $75 and $300 - that's about a 400% spread in a quote. NOT acceptable. I then went back today to bring in my laptop again, and this time the gal told me it's $85 to send it out and get a quote. That's a potential of spending upward of $385 just for a repair to the power port. If they can't find me in the store when I'm right there waiting for over and hour and a half, and then they can't managed to give me pertinent information I need, then I just won't deal with that kind of total and utter incompetence. Really really disappointed in them, and mad as hell that they wasted two of my days for nothing. They should pay me my hourly rate. I think they read scripts, rather than actually consider what a client's needs actually are. Can't reach the goal, but they can follow their speech protocol...well, not that either, actually. Stopped in for an electronic accessory commonly used in the installation of audio systems. The dude manning the podium thing by the front door (whose job it is to greet people on the way in and then make sure the same people aren't stealing merchandise on the way out) actually DISCOURAGED me from entering the store. I told him I'd need a little help finding this accessory thing and asked if he could point me in the right direction. He was unfamiliar with this particular accessory. I asked if anyone on the sales force could assist. He responded that all the sales associates were busy with other customers. Not sure how he knew this since he never even looked up from his computer screen. Anyway, I told the guy I'd wait at his podium thingy until someone broke free. Meanwhile, I'm killing time, making small talk about the guy's senior prom, surf conditions, and getting his braces off. At the same time, I got on my iPhone and ordered the darned accessory from Amazon with free second-day shipping. So many national retail chains--most notably Best Buy complain about the scourge of "show rooming" yet this is the shopping experience Best Buy expects will encourage shoppers to Buy in their stores? 100% self-service you can get online. It's no wonder customers are staying away from retailers in droves. read more

Not really sure why so many people are hating on Best Buy, it's pretty much just like target, except with a different selection of items. I specifically check out the Best Buy deal of the day on their website on a regular basis now. I've gotten some really sweet deals based on that, you might just want to make sure to buy it online then go to the store and get it. Or have it shipped to you, whatever. But I never noticed anything less then a pleasant experience going to this location. It is, of course, important to shop smart. Sometimes you can get really great deals that are less expensive than anywhere else, and other times prices are for retail. I personally don't talk to the employees a lot, I mostly go in there and find what I'm looking for. If I want to get a good understanding of how good a product is, I usually check on another website and then decide if I want to buy it or not. read more

Something good has happened at this Best Buy store. I went in about 2 years ago and was frustrated with the level of service that I received. Today I went in to get a cover for my Samsung tablet. Was met by someone who is a member of their Geek Squad . He walk with me to the Samsung area and introduce me to a female by the name of Tommy( which is his name as well) . Excellent service does not begin to describe the care I received. Both sales reps were attentative and in only a few minutes I walked out a very satisfied customer. I believe the only thing that separates any of us from our greatest competition in the 21st century is the level of care we show to those who use our services. If I could give negative stars I would. The TV we had for 1.5 years just flashed off one day and then had a red blinking light. We called Geek Squad and they couldn't come out for 1.5 weeks. They were supposed to call 1/2 hour before they got there and did not, so I rushed home from work to wait on them. The gentleman who came to help was very nice and did some trouble shooting. He said that he needed to order a part and he ordered one and it would be in on Saturday. That Saturday came and went and we called a few times with no response to email or phone. We then pushed more and more and finally got the part in the mail. We then were waiting for an appointment to be scheduled with promises that we would get a call that never happened. So we FINALLY got the appointment set and they were supposed to be there today and NO SHOW!! This is a waste of money, we have been without our TV for 2.5 months and HORRIBLE customer service. They either need to get more staff or more qualified staff. I am patient, but over and over empty promises of appointments or this getting fixed to no avail! Don't get the GEEK SQUAD, they are horrible! Update..... Even talking to two levels of management after they admitted they to scheduling people that weren't even working today that the first available is March 3.... They take your money for this service and it has been horrible. I would never waste a dime on them. We will see if they could even redeem themselves at this point. My Mom bought a laptop from here and it worked great...for about 2 days. Once we got it home the internet would continue to drop and not re-connect. My first thought was the internet at my house was not working with her laptop. We then took it to her house to use a different internet connection. Again it didn't work. I took it back to Best Buy so they could look at it. The Geek Squad was nothing but unprofessional, cocky, arrogant, and any other descriptive word you can use for people who like talking down to others that may not know much about computers. Decent customer service but you really need to be assertive to get customer service reps attention. Occasionally they will ask you if assistance is needed but acting suspicious is another technique I use to get help or playing with something that you shouldn't be also grabs attention. I wouldn't bother with geek squad service. There's may 1 or 2 techs that actually know what they are doing but the rest are typically amateurs that are still taking classes and gaining experience from your items at your expense. Geek squad came out to try to diagnose our network problems 4 separate times and failed yet we still paid. Your best bet is to look at forums online that have similar issues to yours and find the fix there which I ended up doing. read more

This place sucks! They never have what you need. I just went in to find a simple memory card for my Nikon camera and the women said " oh sorry we're out". Then the sales person immediately gets asked a question from another customer and they asked if they carry something else.....then the same response again of sorry we're out of that. NEVER DOING BUSINESS WITH Best Buy AGAIN! The staff at the Encinitas store was cordial and knowledgable, but Bust Buy as a company - epic fail. Four (yes 4!!!) times in a row they delivered my $4000 LG washer / dryer set with significant shipping damage. Each time I had to wait within a 4 hour window, and they were late most times. The final time (the product still had a huge dent) they offered me a gift card. I had already spent more than 20 hours waiting for delivery and setup, so I accepted the gift card ($150 - not fair but I was out of patience). But when I went to the store to use the card, it had a zero balance!!! The store said there was nothing they could do. After umpteen more calls to Best Buy customer care, they refuse to send me another gift card, or to replace the damaged goods. So I tried to dispute it on the credit card, but because I used a Best Buy credit card (fox watching the hen house) they dismissed the dispute. My recommendation - buy at Costco. This store has the worst customer service. Went in to purchase a dishwasher and salesperson walked right in front of me and ignored me, he looked the other way. Several other salespeople were walking around talking to each other looked toward me never asked if we needed assistance. This has never happened to me in any other store I have ever been in. Horrible experience with their Geek Squad. They did nothing to fix my computer and way over charged. It took hours of my badgering the guy to get an accounting of what exactly they did to my computer (which was almost nothing). They guy was condescending, flippant, and didn't know what he was talking about - a horrible combination! (For instance, he told me they removed over 300 viruses from my computer, but these were really tracking cookies, which is nothing significant. He couldn't tell me what application they used to do the virus scans.) They did remove the licensing registration for most of my applications, which I needed to reinstall when I got home. (After he implied that my software was probably not legal. ) The problem I took it in for is still not fixed. Their only response to my complaint was that I could bring my computer back in and they would look at it again. As if I'd waste any more time with them. Buy stuff in their store if you'd like, but seriously don't waste your time or money on these Geek Squad guys, go to a real computer repair place. read more

Came in on a Sunday when the 3DS launched and they had tons of them available at around noon so either they were well prepared or no one bought them. The staff was really helpful. Terrible experience here today. Went to purchase a screen protector for my new phone and the guys tried to put it on three separate times. Each time they could not get it on correctly they had to throw the item away and grab a new one and start over. On the third try the guy told me there was "still shit under there". That is exactly what he said to me...a direct quote. He then said he can give me another one and I can take it home and try it myself but essentially they weren't going to be able to do it. read more

Though i am a heavy Amazon shopper, I have always been a strong believer in supporting the presence of a neighborhood brick-and-mortar consumer electronics store. As such, I have tried over the years to shop at various San Diego area BB stores. However, each encounter i have had with their employees makes such conviction highly challenginng, as demonstrated by todays Encinitas store visit. I went to Encinitas to pick up an online order of macbook air (on bestbuy.com). Stephen, who looks to be barely out of high school, probably should be surfing instead of working in retail. Throughout my transaction, he gossiped with a fellow worker without any eye contact. I asked if he could confirm that the item is a 13" laptop, he literally said, "you can check yourself, its on the box". Really?!!! Did i not just spend $1000 here? Is this how bad retail has gotten? I know, i know, i should have bought this at an Apple store. Still, this sort of rude encounter was not the first i have experienced at Best Buy so i should mot be surprised. Yet, the naive me still yearn for average, not great, customer service at Best Buy. My guess is, nothing will change and other bad comments will continue to surface. Note to Best Buy management: its not the selection, but great consumer experience that creates brand loyalty. Case in point, look at Apples incredible consumer support, yet the consumer rolls out but a few new products each year. Dont try to be jack of all trades and master of none. Illogical Jerks re Returns!! While I usually buy from AmaZon I thought, why not buy a microwave from BestBuy. I did, found out it didn't fit in the space. Got the flu and missed the 14day refund window but I figured "no problem, I'll even take store credit to be amenable . I mean they still carry the same product two weeks later but guess what? They refused to give store credit even With The ORIGINAL receipt on an UNoPENED box!! When my husband said we didn't want it, they said they would have to recycle it!! Just another big box store one of the last big ones remaining. Customer service is usually above average at most locations. Be sure to check out the open box items and save some money! The sales associates are not trustworthy. On Friday, we went in and knew the laptop we wanted. The color wasn't available but the salesman said it could be delivered the next day and someone had to be at our house to sign for it. Friday evening we received an email from Best Buy it was shipped with a tracking number. Saturday came and went with no delivery. We called Best Buy and they had no idea what the status was and there was no details from the tracking number. Best Buy employees just didn't care about the customer service. Never apologized and referred us to the delivery company. The delivery company was very helpful and said there were no tracking details because Best Buy hasn't provided the product to their company yet. We eventually got the laptop the following Monday. I was prepared to cancel my order that day. I'm happy with the product and would have not mind the later delivery date if the salesman would have just been honest instead of just looking for a quick sale. Hanging around on a weekend was a total waste of time and was frustrating. In the future, I plan to take my business elsewhere. It was a good buy but a BAD experience. read more

Bogus Best Buy Recycling Program Very bad customer service experience at Best Buy #1187 in Encinitas, CA. when I attempted to take back a TV for recycling there through their e-cycle program I checked the Best Buy website, including the California-specific program, which states that Best Buy takes: "Nearly everything electronic, including tube TVs and monitors up to 32", flat-panel TVs and monitors up to 60", peripherals, DVD players, home and car audio, cell phones, MP3 players, and cables." but does not take: " * Internal and External computer hard drives. * Console TVs of any size, or tube TVs and monitors larger than 32". Use our haul-away or pickup programs for these items. * Electronics containing refrigerants, such as mini refrigerators or air conditioners. Please contact your local waste disposal department. * Appliances. Use our haul-away or pickup programs for refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washers and dryers, ranges and microwaves." I also called and was told that yes they take TV's, as long as they are not over 32" screen (no other qualifications given). When I attempted to take my 26" TV to the Best Buy store I was told that "we do not take "wood grained" TV's". No reason could be found as to why not, that that was just " the policy". When I asked for further explanation, the customer service agent fiddled with her computer but said she was unable to pull up the policy because she "could not open the file" When a manager was finally summoned, Andre, the manager, was extremely aggressive and menacing, and curtly informed me that if I wanted I "could leave the TV but that best Buy would simply throw it in the dumpster" Hoping that the company contracted by Best Buy for e-recycling would be able to take care of the TV and having no other alternative, I left the TV with Best Buy. I hope it has not simply been thrown away, but has actually been recycled. I feel that there is a general attempt to discourage e-waste recycling at Best Buy, although it is prominently advertised on your web site and in other marketing efforts. I also was very concerned about the tone Andre took with me over a relatively minor issue. It is very discouraging and does not make me want to shop at Best Buy again, whereas before I had shopped there happily. Is Best Buy another "greenwashing " company trying to take advantage of green marketing without actually performing? read more
