DO NOT USE THE GEEK SQUAD! They DO NOT know what they're doing. I made the mistake of taking my computer to the "geek squad" and guess what? They fixed nothing and I had to PAY THEM. I brought in my desktop computer because it wasn't turning on, the geek squad did some tests, I have no idea what they did, but it seemed like they were more interested in their side conversation than they were in my computer. After something like 20 minutes (I aimlessly walked around the store) they told me that I needed a new hard drive for my computer and pointed me to the hard drives conveniently placed behind me on the wall. They even attempted to up sell me a Solid State drive, which I laughed at, because that's where the sales pitch started. After I said no to everything they tried to sell me, I told them I was going to get a second opinion. They charged me for the "inspection" which they assured me was true. I called up a friend who I knew built his own computers (in hindsight... well you know how the saying goes, I guess I fell victim to their marketing of GEEK SQUAD) and asked him for his opinion. Within 5 minutes of coming over, he told me the hard drive had fried, but that it was because of a damaged socket on the motherboard. When he explained what would have happened if I had bought a new hard drive, I got furious. The NEW hard drive would have friend just like the old one and my problem would have continued on and my pockets would have emptied further. I am not the best around computers, but after one little mini lecture from my friend, I likely learned more than anyone on the Geek Squad knows. Bad business, I'm so lucky to have a friend who knows what's going on, my computer works fine after his guidance, but most people might not have the option of a friend who knows a lot about computers. They would likely end up spending enough to where buying a completely new computer would be more worth it. But not Best Buys over priced computers... That's for another day. read more

Inept, unwilling to help, online order system for in-store pick-up didn't work, and general lack of basic customer service. Needed a power back-up and surge protector quickly, so checked online and found Best Buy had the model I wanted available for in-store pick-up by 9pm on 11/27/15. I paid online, went to this store for pick-up. At the store, I asked a representative where I can pick up my purchase and was directed to "the front". Went to the front check-out and waited 10+ minutes before finding out that I really needed to go to the Customer Service desk instead. Went there, and the gal (Cecilia?) said I should not have even come because I should have followed directions and awaited receipt of an e-mail saying the product was ready for pick-up before arriving with a condescending tone, as if I were preventing her from going home. I acknowledged that I was there about 45 minutes before 9pm but figured that if the product hadn't gotten put at the Customer Service desk I would find it myself on the shelf and then be on my way. She said, OK, but that I would need to cancel the online order because their in-store and online systems were different and that she could not cancel my online order. So I'd have to cancel the online order myself, and then I could buy the product as a regular in-store transaction. Fine, so I leave and look for the product on the shelf, asking another representative for help finding it. He told me their computer system showed that they didn't even have the product in the store! He apologized for the discrepancy and acknowledged there system was wrong even though I checked online earlier in the day and the Best Buy website showed the product was there. I drove 20+ miles specifically to the Encinitas Ranch location, passing at least two other Best Buys, due to the stated in-store availability. Because what I wanted wasn't there, I requested to have the product shipped to me since I wasn't going to wait around. He said that I had to go back to the Customer Service desk for that. I go back and speak with the gal (Cecilia?) who tells me that she cannot arrange for the shipping because their system was over-loaded due to Black Friday, but that she would cancel my order. What?!? She had previously told me that she could not cancel my order and that I had to do it myself. Wasted time, no product, a flawed order system that doesn't bridge online order with actual inventory, and employees that won't help. Best Buy, nope. More like Worst Buy. I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

5 star service and great deals! I came into this location to get more memory for my company Samsung galaxy phone. I was greeted very quickly by Mark Mori. He asked "what can i help you with today" and i told him that my phone was overloaded and i couldn't check work emails etc. Mark took the time to explain all the different options of memory chips they sold and i ended up with the 64gig sd-card for a super great deal. After i purchased both for my twin brother and I, Mark took us over to the counter and spent literally 20 minutes each helping us clean out our phones, transfer data, pics, videos, & Music. He even took the time to explain to us how to do it ourselves in the future. I was super impressed to receive such 5 star service and he went above and beyond for us. My phone runs super fast now and i will never fill all the memory i have now for such a small cheap purchase. Thanks best buy for hiring such a knowledgeable, cool, funny, & professional guy! We purchased a Lenovo laptop and found it was not at all user friendly. We opted to return it, and when I looked at the receipt I saw it was a few days past the return policy date. We'd had a serious family emergency and time got away from us. After reading all of the reviews I was prepared for disappointment. Before I went to the store I called customer service to ask for help with my return and got a s riot statement. So, I went to the store prepared to be defeated. I explained the situation to the customer service rep and told her I was prepared to have to e plain my story to a manager as it was a multifaceted situation. She listened and then did call for a manager. Patrick was wonderful. He listened, displayed empathy and allowed the return. In a time where customer service is la King, he thought outside the box and renewed my faith in the company. While it would be nicer if Best Buy rethought their return policy, it's nice to know that there are still some managers that understand that sometimes life happens and you have to break the script to keep your customers. Seriously did not think bad customer service could be as horrible as the previous reviews said, especially since I knew what I wanted before I went in. My son and I walked in to purchase a PS3 and Digital camera. Four sales reps standing at front door and no one offered to help. They just stood there talking casually with each other. After I asked for help to retrieve a camera for purchase, the rep appeared annoyed and tired, slumping over the counter to ask me how he could help me and barely displayed any interest. This location is by far smaller than Mira Mesa's Best Buy, yet it doesn't feel that way at all. The layout here is great. There's a main walkway that just goes around the store in a big oval, offering access to every department in the store. We were asked if we needed any help or information in every department we stopped in, so the employee's here are on top of their game and ready to assist if need be. I always appreciate enthusiastic customer service. The aisles for DVD's and CD's are spaced out nicely, a glaring difference from the Mira Mesa store where I frequently have to worry if my butt is grazing the DVD's on the shelf behind me. It's in an always bustling shopping center, but there's usually also plenty of parking no matter how crowded the center gets. read more

I've been a customer for about 5 years and bought my computer here - because I thought they would give me good service. Repeatably (6 times) they've taken 2-5 days longer than the '5' days to fix my laptop. This last time I phoned in 16 times as they were so disorganized, never phoned me, and even at one point told me my computer had blown up (another customer's name). We went to a Best Buy in our area for a specific camera and unfortunately they did not have it so we went to this one upon suggestion. The item I wanted had been sold out for nearly two months due to an incident in Japan so the chances of getting this ordered would've had us waiting for a few to several months. This Best Buy hands down has the best customer service I've had ever experienced. The manager James, another James, Brian, and a couple of others helped us out immediately and we were fortunate enough to have gotten the display camera at a crazy good deal. I've bought 14 TVs (yes...14), Wii games, music, and movies from this place for myself and my boss. So far I've had great customer experiences. I also found out that if you want a certain TV and there's no more in stock in the store and you "need it immediately" then they will sell you the floor model for a HUGE discount. Also, they are excellent at price-matching and have never had any problems with bringing in printouts. I visited this location just recently about half an hour before closing, seeing the cashier hugging and grinding the host (the black guy at the main door) in front of my children was not pleasant. The employees have always been friendly and gotten things taken care of for me. Keith and his helper (sorry forgot his name) installed the new GFI and dishwasher in 2 hours. Both technicians were friendly, knowledgeable , efficient and worked clean. Best Buy closed my account without notice after 6 years due to "inactivity".... I bought multiple items on credit over time and choose to pay cash most of the time... seems odd that they would close my account without notice. My Credit profile is important to me and for them to close an account and expect me to reopen a new credit card is ridiculous. That negatively impacts my credit profile. I will take my purchases elsewhere. The customer service representative and his manager had zero solutions and were pompous about losing a customer. That is why I am giving them a negative YELP review. I use yelp to determine what companies I want to do business with. I had the worst experience of my life with Best Buy. I took my computer that that had over 300 gb of memory. Most of it was video editing that I have been working on but my computer crashed and I needed the data there. Well, the GEEK SQUAD there were very unprofessional and had no clue what they were doing. We have bought a microwave oven, a clothes washer, and now a dishwasher at this store. I wish I could rate them 4.5 -- the only flaw in our most recent transaction was that the sales clerk wrote the wrong color on our dishwasher order. I caught the error before leaving the store, but by then it was too late to correct the order, because they computer system evidently locks out access to orders for several hours after they are placed. We ended up wasting my time and several clerks' and managers' time trying to sort things out. They really need to fix up their ordering system to allow the originating clerk to make changes. The good news is that everything got sorted out. The delivery guys were prompt and courteous, and they delivered the correct unit and hauled away our old Kenmore, which had rusted out after 14 years of service. read more

This is about on line order. First order, this week for new washing machine. Delivered and installed as promised. 5 star Refrigerator was a different experience. Saturday, we waited around for them. Two hour installation time. 2:30 to 4:30 They didn't show up or call. Called back and spoke with a computer. Computer voice said they would come between 12pm and 6!pm. Sometime later, human called us apologized and offered $50 credit. 1:15 minutes late they arrive and refuse to install refrigerator because we didn't have on/off valve on waterline. Refrigerator ordered online. No question about on/off valve. Frustrated requested supervisor. No help. Sent guy away. $3100 refrigerator at the front door. Ordered it again. Another $3100. Later we called them. This time spent 35+ minutes and they said we needed a stainless steel waterline. Really, if so, why not tell us online or in person. Rules change from representative to representative. Apparently there is Best Buy, Geek Squad and some other entity doing installation. They don't communicate very well with customer. At this point, I'll have them install and my handyman hookup waterline. Will try to avoid doing business with them again. read more

Went there to look at the Lenovo Yoga computer after having done research online. Salesman couldn't get the computer to turn on and wouldn't bother to bring one out to demo. Then he started pushing very hard for the Best Buy extended warranty. Started out at $225 and when I didn't bite, it went down to $150 for 2 years. Made a big deal of the "fact" that no one can work on new computers anymore because it's all integrated and proprietary. "The battery won't last 2 years and you have to send it back to the factory to change it out. That alone will cost you more than the warranty. In my experience laptop computers don't usually last 2 years." Another salesman piled on to reinforce that I couldn't change the battery and I should buy a warranty as a result. Hmmm - buying an $800 computer and the sales guy is saying it's basically disposable? Went home and googled battery replacement. 4 screws and less than $100 and you have a new battery installed in this computer. It's made for easy replacement. Management must be pushing the warranty by offering incentives and encouraging their salespeople to BS the customer into buying the warranty. Costco next time! read more

I have been a loyal and frequent customer of Best Buy for years. Last year I bought a laptop computer at Best Buy in Encinitas, CA. Since the first month, I have had several problems, all requiring trips back to the store for repair. The repairs were done by Geek Squad who confirmed the root cause was in the manufactured components, not use or abuse. On March 27th I had to bring the computer back again for repairs. After describing the issue, the store manager stated their policy of no return and minimal value for exchange. When I asked "is this Best Buy's version of customer satisfaction?", the manager pushed my laptop back at me and yelled "GET OUT OF MY STORE!" I gladly went to a competitor the same day and spent $900 on a replacement and threw my Best Buy membership into the trash. That was the only "customer satisfaction" I could realize from this embarrassing encounter. I wish they had repaired or replaced my laptop with the gleeful speed as when they first took my money at purchase. read more

The store is ok, but compared to other Best Buys, they're small. Because of their size of the store, I think their selection is smaller. Feels cramped. I went to purchase a game for my kid and the bigger white guy was helpful. I knew what game I needed, but couldn't find it. He came by the section about a minute after I walked into it and asked if I needed help. He knew the game and found it...in his backroom. I don't know if they have product undisplayed because of the store size, but if you're just casually shopping, this doesn't help you. The people I encountered were nice, but I couldn't help thinking that they had more things I might be interested in that I couldn't find on the floor. read more
