GM Yenga Basolene did not care at all about anything. We purchased a LG Combo Washer/Dryer (NOTE: DO NOT BUY). After trying to make it work for several months with yesterday being the final straw (took 12 hours to do one load of laundry), I came to replace it with a different unit. He didn't care, said it's past the return time and to call corporate. When in fact I know that managers can make exceptions. "While the standard policy exists, a general manager can exercise discretion and potentially allow a return outside of the normal timeframe, especially if the item is defective or there are extenuating circumstances." What is frustrating is that the sales people lied about the product. I should have listened to the delivery guys who said they would be back out in a week to pick it back up. We purchased a new refrigerator after our old one died. Paid an extra $40 for them to haul away old fridge when they delivered the new one. Would not take it because it had leaves in it from sitting on the street and the door was taken off for safety so no children or animals would climb inside and get stuck. This was according to them dirty and unsanitary and against their policy. What are you going to do with an old broken fridge other than disposing of it? Hosed off old fridge and scrubbed it clean. Well now they wont pick it up until 3 days from now and it will need to be cleaned again god forbid leaves are in it. Returning the new fridge as well and purchasing from somewhere else. read more

I give best buy 2 stars only because of how they treat the customers. I was in line at the Geek squad not knowing that you need to make an appointment there were two customers in front of me non of us knew that you need to make an appointment even if you need to ask a question. A lady in front of me was so upset because she was only going to pick her computer that she had purchased. She was so upset I was so scared mind you she was in her bathing suit with her hair wet. I do t recalled the names of the geek that was helping her. All I know that he was so unprofessional and made matters worse by not staying calm and not being sympathetic of the customer. I went in to do a MacBook trade in and the guys helping me couldn't figure out to find the storage on a MacBook. How are you suppose to be an "expert" but I had to figure it out on my phone on how to do it. None the less, they were rude and kept ignoring me when I was trying to talk to them. The main guy helping me was very short, brown hair, blue eyes and glasses. Didn't catch his name but his customer service was terrible. After they couldn't figure out how to find the storage the short man put my computer as "poor" without even looking over it and had an attitude towards me. Then as I walked away and left he's making faces and shaking his head rudely. Overall bad experience and I will not be purchasing my Mac products there anymore. read more

I took in an old CPU snd they took it for recycling. The only thing they don't take are monitors. If I don't buy something from them, i will purchase electronic accessories. I am not using Best Buy anymore. The sales staff aren't informed & educated enough on what they are selling you. I paid $100 dollars to get a light dimmer switch installed by Geek Squad which cost me another $100.... only to find out on installation day when the technician arrives that 'although he is an electrician, 'Best Buy' doesn't allow for electrical installations." Why didn't the salesperson know this in advance before he offered the option of using the geek squad to set it all up for me???!!! Don't they have a database that would tell them which products are installable by their Geek Squad team & which products are not? And wouldn't the sales guy check that out first? He tells me while I'm at the hour long sit-down cash wrap, "Oh yeah, they know what their doing, they do this all the time... and this will be an easy & simple set up for them, no worries there." Furthermore, the day before Geek Squad is supposed to show up, I call customer care to verify the times they are scheduled to be here, and made sure the guy representative @ Geek Squad Customer Care whom I was speaking to, knew that despite my father trying to cancel the installation -after he received an unexpected reminder call the day before the installation date, I had now explained to him what they were coming to do, and mom knew about it & everything would be okay. I'd be home to show them around & make sure everything was being handled properly. So dad's fine with it now and no cancellation should be made. Are we still booked for tomorrow? So the guy rep insisted that no cancellation had been made & he corrected the notes regarding what my father had originally told them "If they show up, I'm calling the police!" Everything was still on the schedule & not to worry, they'd be there tomorrow morning to do the installing of the light dimmer switch. Unfortunately, the Geek Team didn't show up on the date as planned. I called up the geek squad customer care for the 2nd time now, and the lady informs me that the order has been 'cancelled.' Okay, well can we reschedule for another date then? "No, I'll have to issue you a refund for the service fee of $135. That's all I can do and then you can call back to set up a new date." Then, just today, while back at the same 'Best Buy' in Geneva, IL, to get my refund in full, I look closer at the receipt & see that they charged me $99.99 for Geek Squad installation - so why was this customer service lady, yesterday, going to refund me $135 instead of the $99.99 I had paid??? I asked the manager and she had no clue- the manager- no surprise! It gets better, back to the customer care lady Rep conversation... she says to me, "let me speak to my supervisor about this, hold please." She comes back and says "Good news! My supervisor said instead of refund, we can go ahead and reschedule you for our next available date!" So I said okay let's try for that. We scheduled the date and that's when I get the arrival of the tech guy who informs me that 'although he is an electrician, his field manager told him we don't install 'anything electrical.' I said let me speak to your field manager. That guy just said again - "no clue why the sales team would have me pay & schedule a time for this installation when we just don't do it, it's policy." ALL THESE BEST BUY EMPLOYEES ARE CLUELESS AND THE MANAGER INSISTED NO ONE IS PAID ON COMMISSION - ALTHOUGH AS I TOLD HER "THEY DAMN SURE ACT LIKE THEY DO!" Next problem: Why did another sales guy sell me a 'website creator' software package for ONLY WINDOWS PC after he just sold me a printer that he claimed was the most compatible for my MACBOOK PRO, W/HIGHEST RESOLUTION, BEST COLOR OUTPUT AND SO ON.... He examined the box and said it could def help me in creating a website & I just assumed we were looking at only MAC Compatible software since he knew that's what I work on. So without too much examination of the box, I buy it. It says right on the side in teeny tiny print a brief list of all acceptable System Requirements: ALL are 'Microsoft Windows' version requirements. I don't have enough RAM to download & install 'Microsoft Windows Vista' onto my current MacBook Pro & the software still prob wouldn't work. Conclusion: I HIGLY RECOMMEND DISREGARDING 'BEST BUY' in Geneva, IL FOR ALL YOUR ELECTRONIC & TECHNICAL NEEDS... WASTED A LOT OF MY TIME FOR NOTHING. LETS SEE IF THAT PRINTER EVEN WORKS- the model in the store kept having paper jams so couldn't see the quality of printing output but I liked the extra big sized colored ink jets... I sometimes dabble in Graphic Design elements and perfection of precise color & drying speed time is so key to me:) Keep you posted if I have to return the printer back to damn Best Buy store again, I better hurry you only get 14 days to return for full refund, I have 3 more days, think I'll just return it & go back to Apple. Not sure why there are so many mediocre or negative reviews for this Best Buy. I've stepped up my shopping here for the last year or so and have had a fantastic experience each time. I recently bought a computer system, 2 smart TVs, a sound bar, and a variety of odds and ends and have been treated like a top customer each time. The folks in each department took a lot of time to ensure I had the correct item, didn't try to needlessly direct me to other choices, and found ways for me to save time and money. I've returned and exchanged items as well with zero hassle. This place has earned my loyalty and I encourage folks to give them another try. I don't recommend buying a laptop here. I bought an HP laptop last December. Within two months the motherboard fried and luckily they replaced it for free, albeit losing lots of precious data. 6 months after that a hinge snapped. My laptop doesn't leave my desk, it wasn't dropped, or damaged..and I found many people online who had the same issue. I'm under a one year warranty and figured it would be replaced no problem. I take it to Geek Squad. He proceeds to tell me that this is a common problem with this laptop, it should be replaced for free, and they'll send it in. A week and a half later I get a call asking for $250 to replace it after they already had it. I refused to pay this as I know this was a malfunction of their doing, not mine. The Geek Squad told me to call corporate support and not take no for an answer which was actually the best advice. He told me I could do a repeal but that they never go through and it would be a waste of time. The manager told me the complete opposite. He said don't do that, bring it in for a repeal blah blah blah because he feared having someone call corporate to complain. I was getting the vibe that the manager was looking out for his own reputation more than actually taking care of this issue. Overall, a terrible terrible experience that took way too much time and effort for a piece of hardware less than one year old that i did not break. They will do everything they can to get out of paying for faulty hardware. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Is it not possible to leave a ZERO star rating? Tried to buy a cell phone that was to be price matched to the carrier's price on the website. Spoke to customer service reps on the Best Buy website chat to verify and confirm that they would price match. They did, and when arriving at the store to buy it, they refused to price match. Came home and spoke with them again, and they again verified and sent me back to the store, this time with a reference number in case of a problem. Again, they REFUSED. Came home a second time and placed the order online through their customer service people who happily matched the price. The manager, Yenga Basolene, was ZERO help, as was their assistant manager who was not only rude and condescending on the phone, was also clueless about the policies of the company he works for- "we don't price match things that are online." Ugh, yes you do, genius, and it took me talking to somebody with some common sense and the ability to read to make it happen. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS! They already have numerous ONE and TWO star ratings. If ZERO was an option, there would be plenty of those as well. Idiots. And, if their corporate offices ever actually read these comments, please, please, please fire this store manager. In a time where Amazon and online retailers are taking over brick and mortar stores, taking care of your customers goes a long way. After this fiasco, I will never shop at Best Buy again. As Best Buys go, it is probably ok however not so much the service department. My wife bought a used low mileage 2007 Mitshubishi Eclipse (8000 mjiles) and we brought it here to have a new double din radio, navigation system and backup camera installed. When we arrived for our appointment at 5 pm, the install staff was getting ready to leave as no one told us about the appointment. They did stay to do the install and told us about 3 hours. The store closed at nine and still did not have it. At 10:30 PM we went to pick it up. As we checked it out, I noticed the camera was not sentered on the license plate and on closer inspection found that they had decided to drill into the bumper rather than mount it on the plate. We complained. next day we came in to talk to the manager who was not aware of it. When we told him, he did some checking and said he would look into it. I told him I wanted to get it in as soon as possible to get it repaired and needed to know how to file a claim. he said we shiould wait as the investigation would most likely take 90 days. I mentioned as we started to leave I would just have my lawyer or insurance call and was told that iff I did that, most likely they would not approve my claim. What, a threat? i called corporate who was most helpful. She said nothing had been entered in the system (something the manager said he did while we waited) and that no, they should not have modified the vehicle that way especially without our approval. She said give her seven days and if nothing happened to call her back at her extension. This was Saturday. On Monday, their insurance called us and told us to get an estimate, where ever we wanted. We did and called the insurance back who stated that the manager had yet to file any report, but he would try to expedite. We had a check in our hands the following week, so kudos to BB Corporate, however I will steer clear of this store for a while. read more

We should have learned a long time ago, but there are so many Best Buys that it's too easy to walk into one and get ripped off. Be careful with this and other Best Buys trying to sell you extra stuff you don't need. For example, a salesman at the Geneva store recently insisted that we buy an extra audio cord even though the monitor came with one. "It'll break in 3 weeks," he says. It didn't. When we brought it back, they said it was "outside the return period." Then Geek Squad at the same place charged us $150 for nothing. I brought my desktop in because it was too noisy, but instead, they claimed to have saved me from all kinds of viruses and software issues that I never asked them to look for in the first place. When I reminded them that I brought it in for the noise, they were all "Oh yeah, we looked at that too, it's a fan that's failing." $150 for what?? The noise is the same as always. They did not offer to replace the fan. When signing the paperwork for Geek Squad, they will pressure you to "sign here, here, here, and initial here, here, and here" in a very pleasant manner like a used car dealer who is about to rip you off. They promise you anything while you are signing, but that doesn't matter. They mention "the document you signed" pretty quickly when you call to complain. Either read the paperwork --which apparently says they get your money for nothing-- or you should just say no. Also say no to the extra cords and adapters and plugs they try to sell you thinking you will be too busy to come back and return them before the "return period" expires. read more

I hurriedly went to Best Buy Monday night in search of answers for a computer that won't turn on. A computer I haven't even paid off yet I might add that was purchased there. I go to geeks squad where they do everything I've done and say "ya it won't turn on"...jee thanks, I didn't know that. They then tell me I'll need to leave it there for diagnostics so I assumed (since it was late) come get it the next day, especially since I made it clear that I need it for school. They tell me to come get it Saturday at 2pm. Which gives me a week use the crap computer the school will provide. Today I now get an email that they can't run diagnostics...because the computer won't turn on. Literally the reason I brought it there in the first place. Extremely disappointed and will be taking my products straight to apple from now on. read more

I had purchased the iPad 6 last night and had forgotten to show them my email for the free $25 gift card I should have received from my purchase. I went in today asking them to honor it and they refused saying I would have to return the order and there was no guarantee I would get the gift card since it expired yesterday. I had used $175 in rewards money on my purchase and would lose that if we did the return process. I'm furious with your customer service at the Geneva IL store. This is about the Geek Squad ONLY. So my dad had bought me a new remote start controller for Christmas since I had misplaced my others and we were going in to get them installed. We were both smiling and happy when we walked in (it is, after all, Christmastime) We were a little early and we were met with hostility and agitation. I understand more than anyone being busy during the holidays.....but that is NO reason to not meet customers with a friendly smile. He looked at us, spoke to us in a very annoyed tone and tried arguing with us when we weren't even trying to argue! My dad kept trying to crack jokes, even though he was disappointed in purchasing the wrong model of remote start, and he brushed by us, acted like we were an annoyance and inconvenience to his day. As someone who works in customer service, it made me never want to work with the Geek Squad here ever again, and we have been using their services for YEARS. So disappointed in the lack of customer service skills. Hopefully in the new year Best Buy can work with their Geek Squad employees and see about some customer service training. read more

They are very friendly and helpful. But BEWARE if you buy the laptop warranty even though they say they will fix or replace it, the laptop has to be shipped out. If you use it for work or school you will be without a laptop for about a week. I have had to buy and return a laptop for use during that time period 3 times now for the same computer. Recently purchased a Samsung Washer and Gas Dryer from Best Buy with a stackable kit. Best Buy hires out the installation of the appliances to a third party. They are not licensed plumbers and really shouldn't be doing the install. They were replacing the nipple on the gas vent to install the new gas dryer in our house and caused gas to leak out by compromising the gas vent. If they would have held the vent with a wrench, this would have not been the case. We had to pay a plumber to come out and replace the vent because it was now compromised. The plumber cost us over $400 and stated that they were not properly installing the dryer, which we now had to file a claim for. Still no washer/dryer at this time, 2 weeks later, we decided to return the washer/dryer because we definitely dont trust who they hire. We are done shopping at Best Buy and would definitely recommend avoiding them for these services. They also stated, the claim will most likely not be approved because we cant 100% prove that they caused this. Best Buy sucks. read more

Then they won't allow you to take that wrong product back. They have warrantees that have so many loopholes that they're useless. They try to walk off with important paperwork, & if you don't catch it they dispose of it. They sold me a defective computer. They sold me a desk chair, where the arms looked like steel but were cheap wood painted silver, which broke after a week. They never save your data after a computer repair. There was an incident where a brought my mother in, and she had to instruct a Geek Squad member how to fix my computer. Whatever good they did in the past was likely because of different management. This management evidently purposely quizzes prospective employees as to whether they're willing to be dishonest. Dishonest = hired, honest = no hired. Basically organized crime. read more

Then the 2nd clerk said we cannot match a manufacturers price, on their on line store. I asked for the manager and he insisted they cannot, I asked to see the written rules for price matching, they did not have them. So, he showed me on the computer the shortcuts to ehat they can match. Including things like Dell, a manufacturer that sells directly same as I asked them to match. He was pretty much a jerk. So, I left and went to another Best Buy, they had no problem matching the price. Strange, the next day it ewnt on sale for the price they matched. My wife got a surface as a gift. Her family bought it for her a few weeks before her birthday. They were told as long as she brings the receipt she'll be able to exchange it for store credit. We just went to exchange it for an iPad, we were going to spend more money there today. Manager said no way, we were a few days over the alloyed time. We said, "what if we buy two iPads?" No way, completely unwilling to work with us. I run a video production company, I buy all my gear at Best Buy and all my personal electronics. I will never shop at Best Buy again and both our families have also said so. You've lost 18 customers today and I will make sure that number goes up. One out of Five is being generous to this store. Just had the worst retail experience in my life at the Geneva Best Buy. The conduct of the Assistant Store Manager was beyond acceptable. I will no longer ever step a foot in this store. It all started when I was looking for a TV to be price matched today (Saturday after Black Friday). Another store had a TV with a discounted price but didn't have any in stock and it would take 6 weeks to delivery. I went to Best Buy thinking they would have the same TV and price match. I drove buy on Black Friday and stopped in to ask about the TV. I asked two things: did they have the TV and do they price match. I received a 'yes' to both questions but with one condition. Best Buy was not able to price on Black Friday but they would honor the price the following day. Done deal for me. I came in Saturday to talk to the sales rep again. He was busy so they brought me to the Assistant Store Manager. We told him about the deal and the price match but he refused to honor it. He said there are conditions to it and that specific TV didn't apply. He also mentioned that the TV manufacturer has a lock on the prices that they can sell it for. I responded that the other store had the exact same TV for the discounted price. He countered and said that store was in the wrong and refused to honor the price. We told him that we made a second trip to that Best Buy store and he refused to do anything about it. He went on to say that 'we' didn't fully understand their price match policy. It went around three times with the individual before it started to get heated. As we grew frustrated with this manager, he became more defensive and felt as if we threatened him. He repeatedly said for use not to "threat him". My father and I looked at each other dumbfounded. In the background, the "security staff" began to form a semi-circle behind him. He actually created a hostile situation that made use uncomfortable so we walked out of the store. I have never in my life encountered such a situation in a retail store. And the worst part about it, is we were there to spend money. read more

No more. Just had the last straw experience with Best Buy Geneva. After buying all of my big ticket electronics at this store over the last 7 or 8 years, I am done with their terrible service. The Geek Squad agent told me my cell phone insurance coverage was 'inactive' but could not tell me why (after I've paid for it every month since buying the phone). The store General Manager could not explain it, and told me to call 888-best-buy, which I did, and then waited on hold for more than an hour. They sold me cell phone insurance, and then when I need it, they tell me the coverage is no longer in effect. No one can explain why. Something unethical is going on. Amazon.com is the only way to go. There is a recent article on line called 'Best Buy still doesn't get it.' Google that title and you will find the article. Agreed 100%. read more
