Need to change the policy about tv that don't have a remote. I had a bad experience at this location. They couldn't even help when I had a tv with me that works. When I asked to talk to the manager. I was told he was too busy in the back to come out to talk to me. The employees told me there was nothing they can do. I didn't have a remote control when I got it. I explained that to them. South City Pawn was so much better. The owner now RIP was loyal to his customers and honest. He would call you and send you a notice letting you know that you have a weeks to come get your Jewelry before they sold it. Best Collateral is different they don't send you a letter and I was never called. They sold my wedding ring with rubies and my husbands thick 14K link bracelet and lied and said they sent a notice. When in there on this past Saturday 8/17/2019 they said they believe they sent me a notice. Then told me and my husband that if you moved you should have changed our address We advised them we haven't moved in 2 years and they use too send us notifications or at least South City Pawn did clearly they are not South City Pawn. Not too excited about a pawn shop opening up a few blocks away... at least I know where to go to look for my laptop when it gets stolen. These guys won't be in business long. I walked in today.... started to look at their cheap $35.00 made in China remote control helicopters that you see in flee markets for $19.99 when someone ordered me to remove my sunglasses. I looked at him kind of confused and he said "we don't allow people to wear sunglasses in here". I turned around and walked out. With clerks like that, they won't be around long.. I can go into a bank, high end jewelery store, casino and any government building I want with sunglasses on, but apparently this place has issues with it. Stay away from these people. They are rude and disrespectful. I came in to get a pawn loan I brought in 5 Milwaukee power tools, impact wrenches to be exact they told me $60 I said $60!!!!!! Are you kidding me? I'm a mechanic and you think ima let my tools go for $60. I just needed a loan just for 1 week. So I asked for a quote on a specialized bike I had hoping to get more than $60. They said to bring the bike in I said well I have the name of the bike also the serial number to the bike so they can check out how much it cost online they rudely told me to bring it in so they can check it out I was like I'm not gonna bring a whole bike in to end up just getting offered something that's way lower than the amount of gas I'll use up to drive back and forth. My husband calls and asks can we sell a TV? He is told simply yes, they take all electronics. Shows up within the hour, the man behind the counter suddenly has attitude when he sees him. Insists you can only sell a TV with the power cord AND remote and asks wheres the (never existent) stand as though the back doesn't have clear mounting mechanisms on it. As though there arent 100 apps in the play store with universal remotes. I came here with my friend to see if we could pawn or get some value for some jewelry we had from ex-boyfriends (not for the Wine Walk haha). The store itself was ok but it took them a really really long time to examine our jewelry. She also said she couldn't figure out what type of material the band from my ring was made of, so she wasn't comfortable taking it (but I had gone to two shops before this and it was fine). I wish I could give zero stars because they lost my bracelet I had in loan! It was a bracelet my Mother (who is no longer with us) gave me when I was a teenager. It meant so much to me, I never would have hawked it if I really didn't need the money. I am a single Mom on disability and didn't have money for food! They told me when I came to pick it up that they knew they had lost it months ago but still had the nerve to be charging me monthly for the loan!! When I asked for that to be credited they would not do it! They let me pick out another item of equal value ($500) and that was that! I love going to pawnshops browsing through checking things out and getting great deals. I had such awesome customer service By this girl name Krys. She made me feel comfortable I didn't feel pressured she was super friendly they got a gem when they got her. There was another girl there and she was super rude I'm so glad that Krys helped me. Hubby and I visit this place when we're in this neck of the woods, near the Fish Market off the Norfolk exit near 92. He usually peruses the tools and finds something interesting that happens to be on sale. I look at the guitars, but that's it. The first time we came here, I was pleasantly surprised that this was a pawn shop. It was far nicer than the pawn shops that I visited in the past. Decades ago, I would go with friends to pawn shops, that they used as their local bank branch. Usually, the visit involved an urgent need to hock their movie collections and anything else they had for their so-called personal necessity of purchasing recreational pharmaceutical products at that moment. Sad. Different time, different place, and different people. I don't associate with that crowd these days, thank you. Fast forward to Memorial Day 2013-May 26th. It's our 5th visit to Best Collateral in the last 12 months.. Hubby never leaves this place without buying some wonderful tool, like a Paslode nail gun, or an edger, and getting a great price for that goodie. I come for the ride. I look at the trinkets, but never to buy. The guitars are not the high end models. An Applause/lower end Ovation electric acoustic or a Fender Starcaster come to mind as representative of the merchandise. This time, I saw something cool- an old Hohner (not Hofner) guitar, Revelation RTS. Scratched pickguard, body is a teal SJ Sharks blue. The guitar looked similar to a Parker Fly. (Hohner-known for harmonicas, cheap classical guitars under 70.00). I inquired about the price, estimating at least 350.00, since it looked unique, with the better pickups than most of the guitars on the lot that day. Casey Colby, the salesperson informs me that it's 75.00 for Memorial day. Wow. yes. She even throws in a soft case for 15.00. Sweet. I was blown away. Yes, it's mine, now. To top that off, yes, hubby bought another tool- a Fieldpiece SC66 HVAC manual ranging clamp meter that we found out later was worth 3 times the price we paid. Basically went in to this place to see if i could sell some electronics because i didn't have use for them as a present i received. I walked in and the place is really neat and clean, but that was doesn't get me. The Lady who first tookk my electronics had no clue what is was, when it clearly states on the box BLUETOOTH HEADSET. she then proceeded to check the price of ebay which im fine with. What bothers me is the rep WILL opened the box to inspect the items then drops it all on the floor. he then re inspects it and says "it looks like it has been used before." which is total crap because he broke the seal of the packaging to open it. I looked online after i left the store, they are worth about $45 on ebay. which is fine, would have taken at least 20. But they tell me its only a Measley $8!!!!! and another $8 for my powerpack that was also new and unused. So in Total only $16 for electronics that are worth probably $170 (would have taken half of that amount. maybe). But cleary the people working there are have no idea what they are selling, either that they have a realy (and excuse my french) Shitty way of explaining things. What a complete waste of my time and gas to drive down there. Which had me really confused because whoever i talked to on the phone when i called a few days ago was completely helpful and knowledgable about the products i was bringing in. I used to really like this place under old management but under the new management they really take advantage of people who are struggling. I brought in an item I received 50 dollars for. The item was selling on eBay from anywhere between 125-175 so okay 50 is fair. When I bright the same item in under new management they went on eBay looked the item up and went off an item that was a different color and not the same at all. The blue item was going for 75 and the one I brought in was still going for about 125-175. They literally went off the lowest possible price of something that wasn't even the same item. Then they offered me 20 bucks for an item that's worth 125 at the lowest possible selling price on eBay. I hope management is reading this or corporate because I think it is absolutely wrong that you take advantage of people like this. Once I get my items out I'm done with this place. If your struggling for cash and need help go to buy sell loan. They at least treat you right. Only reason I don't go there more often is because I literally live 3 minutes away from best collateral but believe me I'll drive the extra 15-20 minutes to go to a place that's actually going to treat me with respect. read more
