Stopped by here this AM after my son had a sleepover with his friends last night. I was surprised when eyes met a crème filled chocolate donut. Prior owners were not making crème filled anything or maybe it was sometimes they made it. I just remember asking one time and the guy said they don't make them. Best donuts? More like worst donuts. I came in there and noticed the guy was giving me the day old donuts on a Sunday morning at 9am! I told him I would like these on the bottom it's for a client and he said, " I have to give you these". They know how to make donuts the right way. They are fluffy and full of flavor. I don't get that nasty taste of old oil here and they don't make my stomach hurt (like other places). Nothing beats the flavor, quality, and price. Hand down the best in town! Helpful Hint: The owner busts these donuts out by himself daily. I have bought donuts here before and they are pretty good. Went in on Saturday and asked for a box. I was told I could only have a box if I bought six donuts. I was only going to buy four for the hubs and me. Glazed Donuts in a bag always stick to each other or the side of the bag. The man argued with me that that doesn't always happen, instead of just charging me for the box. It does always happen to me! I try to support local business but I'll be finding somewhere else now for a donut fix. And due to the extremely rude response from this owner I have downgraded my review even further. This a spot I read about in the SD Reader "Tin Fork" article. After making a bit of a trek out to this part of La Mesa I was left wondering what it was I read about this place. Now do not get me wrong, there was nothing wrong with the place and the shop owner was fine. The thing is that it is also just a donut shop. There were no special donuts in the case, no fun theme to the decor. The donuts I got were good (some donut holes and a glazed twist) but there really wasn't much to it. This place opens up early for business at 4:30 am. I came in to pick up some doughnuts for some colleagues and a few students. I picked a bakers dozen of mixed doughnuts for the peeps, but for me I picked up a old fashion bar with chocolate and a few sprinkled doughnuts for pupils.
