The flavors paired together perfectly, but I think the coconut cream is what really made this drink stand out. It was incredibly creamy, smooth, and well balanced without being overly sweet. Even though the café was busy, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and happy to offer recommendations. The service never felt rushed, and the overall experience was excellent. There's only outdoor seating, which was perfect after a hike and made for a relaxing spot to enjoy my coffee. I'll definitely be back to try more of their drinks and their food menu. We've been coming here after our hikes for quite some time, and normally everything is amazing--the food, the coffee, and the overall experience. It's usually one of our favorite places to stop and unwind after a hike. Unfortunately, today was a very different experience. We found a hair in our food, so I brought it to the staff's attention. They were kind enough to replace the dish, but unfortunately, the fresh replacement also had hair in it. At that point, we just couldn't understand how it happened twice with the same order. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen today, and hopefully this was just an isolated incident. We've had so many good experiences here in the past, which is why today was especially disappointing. Hopefully they can address the food-handling and kitchen hygiene issue, because we'd really like to continue coming back after our hikes. read more

Woke up insanely early due to jet lag. 5 stars to Honey Haven for friendly service and great coffee and breakfast at 6:00am. Ordered a vanilla latte, pleasantly surprised it wasn't overly sweet and the espresso shot had depth of flavor. Wasn't sure I wanted to pay $14 for a breakfast sandwich but Morning Glory is huge and packed with tons of avocado! If you're dairy free and take out the Brie it is dry since there's no sauce but that's on me for being lactose intolerant. Excited to come back and try their specialty lattes and other food. There are 3 tables outside with 2 seats each. I was the only one there at 6:15am but can see how it gets crowded later in the morning. This review is specifically for the drink & baked goods I bought. We stopped by after our hike and coffee & pastries sounded good! We were starving. I looked through Yelp and thought the coffee looked good, but once I got there, my husband pointed out they had a pandan drink under specialty lattes so I was sold! I love pandan. I got the Vanilla Coconut Pandan, a blackberry banana bread (in a muffin form), a brownie with walnuts, and a chocolate chip cooking. I was shocked by the color of my coffee when I got it LOL It was such a bright green which, I'm guessing the barista had a heavy hand when adding the pandan extract. Some of it wasn't mixed in all the way so there was a lot at the bottom and it was very overpowering and bitter :( I couldn't taste the espresso at all. I tried to fix it at home and it's still quite bitter. The baked goods were okay, the cookie was very soft, which can be a vibe, but very crumbly. The food options here are amazing and the bagel I got was delicious and a big portion. I ordered the Bagel Haven on an everything bagel and it had eggs, avocado, apple slices and cheese with a side of fruit. On the messier side to eat and took a while with the kitchen but was tasty. Service was friendly, drinks came out much faster than food. The coconut pandan latte I got was delicious. There's some seating out front but the shop is relatively small inside. Small shop but there is more than meets the eye here! Pastries, great coffee and easy to find. This place is popular on the weekends as the recovery place for the hikers coming from Cowles mountain. The coffee menu has depth. They serve the standard coffee flavors and have dairy free options. I usually get the hot chai coffee and it is well prepared here and delicious with a capital'D! I have not tried the pastries but they serve breakfast sandwiches and lunch sandwiches including a French dip! My friend has gotten me takeout from Honey Haven multiple times before, and I've always enjoyed it. Today, I checked the place out for myself. So here goes: The coffee shop itself was small. No seating inside, but they had three tables out in front. They made the space they had super cute. It even has a chandelier. Love it. The barista was super customer friendly and attentive. I ordered their Lavendar Matcha iced with oatmilk. It was soooo delicious and creamy! It was sweet but not too sweet. I also got a breakfast burrito - the What-I-Need. I do love a burrito with fries in it haha! Although the burrito is $16, it was huge and comes with a side of home fries. Everything was tasty! They did have some seasonal specials which included a Coconut Cloud Matcha that I need to try before they switch up the seasonal menu. I think I found my new go-to neighborhood coffee spot! If you like sweeter coffee this is your place! I was craving a sweet drink and the banana bread latte was perfect! You still get the flavor of the coffee but the brown sugar foam was creamy and sweet! We also got a hass-hash breakfast burrito that is my new favorite! It had a crispy outside and flavorful inside. It came with bacon and sausage which were not greasy at all. To order inside, it is a bit smaller to where only a few people fit at a time. Although, they are really fast with brining out your order. We waited around 10 minutes for our food and drinks. Seating is a little tricker here, as they only have outdoor seating. The decoration is simple with a main wall displaying Honey Haven. I am absolutely obsessed with this spot! My friends and I stumbled upon this coffee shop after our hike at Cowles Mountain for sunrise. I have to say this is one of the best banana bread lattes I have ever had in San Diego, and I claimed to be quite the connoisseur myself. The latte was perfectly sweet and did indeed taste like liquid banana bread. I will have to go back just to try more of their menu and they're amazing looking and smelling food items. Surprised to find I haven't written a review of Honey Haven yet as it is hands down my favorite local coffee shop! Not a coffee snob but know what I like and have brought & recommended to folks who are and none of us have ever been disappointed. As others mentioned it is more of a walk up because there are only 3 outdoor tables, but I've never had difficulty grabbing one and worth it if you can because the view is Cowles Mountain literally across the street. For a walk up in a strip mall the interior is very cute and cozy and the service is always very warm and friendly. The coffee is fantastic. My favorite lattes are the Iced Bumble (salted caramel & brown sugar) and The Queen hot or iced (w/coconut cream & cinnamon). They have a surprisingly extensive menu that I'm meaning to try more items on as both breakfast & lunch items all sound delicious. Since I frequent very often, I'm mostly grab and go and will often pick up a bakery item. The cinnamon roll is amazing by the way. Not super dense, but very light & flaky almost like a cronut & just tried the tropical danish which had a lilikoi center topped with flakes of toasted coconut, so good. Have tried the French onion soup, also very good and the avocado toast has a super generous portion of avocado. Bonus I've been coming here for a few years now and not once have they ever gotten my order wrong or made anything subpar. read more

WOW this review is LONG overdue! Honey Haven is hands down one of my favorite coffee shops in San Diego. From the amazing staff to the best lattes (Iced Queen Lattee for the win), this place is my go-to. I always recommend Honey Haven to friends, and I've already converted at least six people who now call it their favorite coffee spot too. The food is just as good as the drinks. They serve all-day breakfast, sandwiches, and their potato rolled tacos (drool). I've never had anything here that I wouldn't happily order again. The prices are super reasonable, and the vibe is cozy and cute, right across from Cowles Mountain. They've got pastries, plenty of gluten-free options, and all the milk choices -- regular, oat, almond, and coconut. Hallelujah! I can't stand when coffee shops only have one or two milk options. Heading to San Diego Elks for a seminar and needed coffee!! Found Honey Haven and what a find! Menu is amazing I went with the carne asada breakfast burro and honey latte. First coffee shop I have found with coconut sugar so delicious and better for us too! I live in Esco but will definitely make the drive again. My cashier Molly was friendly and patient as I stared open mouthed at all food selections. It is in a strip mall so hey can't be too picky on ambiance. Every time I order a steak dish (which is my go-to anywhere), there are several pieces that are so hard or chewy they're basically inedible.
