Ever since my sister found him about 8 years ago, he is the first call our family makes whenever an appliance at one of our homes starts acting up. 9 times out of 10, he knows what the problem is just based on your description. He's courteous, friendly, reliable, honest, and his prices are very reasonable. He treats your item as if it was his own, and will tell you if it's worth repairing based on cost/age or if it should be replaced. Simply put: I would not buy a new appliance without first checking to see if Kim serviced the brand. He is honest, knows his trade, cares about his work, is punctual and has very fair pricing. More details below if you care... Kim has fixed my refrigerator (Monogram) and oven (Dacor). In the case of the refrigerator, another company looked at it and told me I needed an expensive repair including a new circuit board. Something seemed fishy, so I had Kim check it out. Kim had the refrigerator up and running in 30 minutes, and explained exactly what was going wrong, and why the other diagnosis was BS. No new parts, no hassle. In the case of the oven Kim, Laid out the options of repair vs replace, then spent a ton of time finding a company that would rebuild the control board because it was no longer available. I had to follow up with him to check when it came in and schedule a new appointment...small price to pay, and I would certainly prefer this over him charging more and hiring a office manager to follow up on on the details. read more

Kim came recommended from another appliance repair business. He arrived the same day we called him to diagnose our broken refrigerator. He was thorough and knowledgeable. If you use this company, make sure that everything is working perfectly before you pay! He does not return calls if followup repair is needed. A couple of other reviews mention this too, but due to several other good reviews I used this company. Our refrigerator wasn't able to keep things cold. Kim diagnosed it to a faulty compressor. He replaced it for around $700 parts and labor. It has been working fine since then. Our stove had ignition problems. He diagnosed it to faulty knobs / switches. He ordered parts and replaced them for around $350 parts and labor. These knobs have an intermittent mode for simmer. We didn't check this simmer mode before we paid. Looks like he didn't test it either after replacing the parts. Later we realized that the simmer mode was not working correctly. He returned once more and said that he will order new parts for it. That was the end of his communication. It has been several months and he does not pick up the phone or respond to voice mail anymore. After spending over $1000 total with him, he won't return to take care of a problem with the new parts he replaced! read more

I can't believe I have not written a review for Kim Nelson of Best One Home Appliance before now. Over the years he's fixed our oven, microwave, washer and dryer, and in some instances, on numerous occasions. What can I say, our appliances are getting older, but he keeps them hobbling longer. Kim originally came to us through another appliance repair company. The problem at that time was our oven door would not close properly. The original guy could not fix it. Since he could not repair it he said he knew of someone who would - and voila, Kim! I recall, Kim walked in, inserted two blocks in the door i.e. he figured out a workaround and he walked out ten minutes later. This was easily five years ago. Oven has been great ever since. Kim has come over so many times, he's almost a part of the family! He's honest, respectful of your home (he puts on painter's booties), he's delightful to chat to, competent and his prices are fair. We've had instances where parts have failed before they should have (Kim is not responsible for faulty parts), and he will waive the cost of the part when he recognizes it stopped working before it should have. Made the BEST of the worst. You know, when the ice is melting in the freezer and all the meat ($$$$) you just bought from Costco isn't freezing . . . the day before you're giving a dinner party for eight! Thank God for Yelp and thank God for Kim Nelson. I called him based on the reviews, he came to our home WITHIN TWO HOURS, gave the refrigerator a freon charge, and then ordered the parts for the permanent fix. The dinner party was a success. Two weeks later, the fridge was still cold, Kim called to schedule the repair, reduced the price on the parts b/c they cost a bit more than his estimate - when does that happen? Kim came the next business day after we called, the day after Thanksgiving, 2018 (Friday). He was prompt, as well as courteous and friendly. He diagnosed the problem quickly, partially by listening to the noise which I had recorded on my phone, in case the refrigerator would not be noisy during his visit. He checked two possibilities, then re-created the problematic noise, briefly, to confirm the problem. He explained the issue to me clearly. He walked to his truck to price the part, and then returned to get my approval to proceed. He then suggested an appointment for Monday afternoon, after the part would be received. On Monday, he returned during his stated appointment time, installed the new part and all seems well with the fridge (and me)! Kim came out to check my washing machine, but the problem was in the drain in the wall, so while he was at my place, he taught me how to do all the ugly maintenance on the washing machine... by doing it for me. Really patient, gave me the confidence to do it myself the next time. Then, since he was here, I had him look at our fridge and dishwasher, and he is ordering some stupid little parts for both that I've lost or broken over the years. No hard sell, happy to help. Terrible. Kim does not stand behind his work or his warranty and is entirely unresponsive to texts and calls. We have been waiting patiently for weeks now and have not received so much as a courtesy reply. His work is atrocious. We will never use his services again and have filed suit in the small claims court to get our payments reimbursed. Caveat emptor. read more

Kim is great -- we have used him for years for all of our appliance repairs. He is friendly, knowledgable, and reasonable. Just what you want in an appliance repair person, but for some reason seems hard to find. My fridge stopped working last night, and I called Kim this morning. He was at the house in less than two hours, diagnosed the problem immediately, ran back out to get the part, and came back later in the afternoon to install it. So within 24 hrs of the fridge conking out, it's back up and running. That has NEVER happened with the extended warranty companies! Kim will continue to be our first and only call when we need an appliance fixed. He has become friends with us over the years (which doesn't speak well to the reliability of today's appliances, does it???), so it's always great to see him when he's here. read more

My wife and I had an exceptional experience with the tech that came out several times from Best One for a variety of appliance issues (refrigerator, dishwasher and washer/dryer). I wish I could remember the fellow's name but he was african american, about 50, 5'10 ish, super polite and incredible knowledgeable on all things home appliance. His signature is impossible to read - sorry! The work was done exactly on time and as promised. Appointment was made and he came literally on the dot on all three visits to our house. Refrigerator fixed on visit one with parts on his truck. He diagnosed dishwasher problem and needed to order a part which he brought back two days later and fixed in less than an hour. Visit three was a bit more complicated and very very expensive. If I could give Best One a 6 star I would only because after several hours and several hundreds of dollars of repairs, the washer eventually failed again. He came back on visit #4, said he found a new problem, and that "honestly, you are better off purchasing a new one from Home Depot or Sears than me putting in $500 more into this machine. If you do that, I will reimburse you the parts and costs of my last trip since it did not fix the problem". Literally, his visit #3 check with parts came to my house 2 days later. I am floored. An honest, hard working, straight talking repair person. I could not have been happier with this company and its attitude/ability. Highly recommend. read more

Kim is the best! He came to fix my aging dishwasher, and he came to my house around an hour after I called him! His prices are reasonable, too. Kim also recommended that I buy a new dishwasher before Christmastime this year, when they go on sale. I originally met Kim in 2012, when he came to repair my dishwasher. I had the worst experience with Kim -- he is unprofessional. incompetent and uncaring. When in a few days after his "repairs" my refrigerator broke again, and I asked him to come back and honor the 30-day work guarantee, he showed up at my house about 3 hrs late, promised to come back the next day to fix still broken refrigerator, and disappeared. I was really excited to call this repair company after reading all the glowing reviews from yelp.. and SEVEN weeks later I'm extremely disappointed. Leaving someone hanging without a call back (or text back) sums up my experience, as well as an oven that STILL doesn't heat up, and has some sort of gas leak. I've given up on them for good at this point. At first, Kim came over and diagnosed my oven problem as a thermostat issue. Once he left, my oven was working again-- I really thought he 'magically' fixed it but about a month later the oven stopped heating up completely. I went back to the original quote he gave me for parts/labor (On July 1st) and emailed him to ask if he can order the parts. It took about 3-4 weeks to get the part in and schedule a visit. I figured, this was my fault.. I should've just believed the guy and ordered it when he quoted me back in June! But.. upon coming back he said it was a gas leak or some other problem and that he would need someone else to come and help with pulling the range out. Ok, that's fine, let's get another person in here and help fix this problem... only problem is, he was never available to come back and help me fix my oven. I call about rescheduling and from what I understood he said the following week. The next week goes by and no call.. no visit...I give him an extra week... I call, no answer and leave a vm. No call back. Okay, i say.. I'll give him ONE MORE WEEK...i should've known better, but for good measure I text him one last time to see if he maybe he'll respond (he had been good about text messages in the past) but to no avail. I think I got the hint- he's not coming back and I may have to start a school year (which is starting in 9 days) without a working oven if I wait on him. Not happening! Great, Professional Work at Reasonable Prices! My fridge was not making ice so I called another appliance repair place and they said that Kim was actually better than them and that I should call him! I had thought the problem was with the ice maker but Kim immediately diagnosed the problem as a bad defroster. He gave an estimate and told me that he needed to buy the parts but he would be back a couple of hours later to fix the fridge. Probably the best customer service I have received in years! I had a problem with a gas dryer, called them up and they offered to have someone come THAT DAY, within the next two hours. Kim arrived within the appointed time and had it working within 30 minutes (which included a thorough testing). Since I had him here, I asked if he could check my broiler - no problem! He didn't have the necessary part but scheduled a time to be back in two days (based on my schedule). For the second visit, he was courteous and called when he was running a little behind. Once he arrived, he again had my appliance working in very short order, again, thoroughly tested. In both cases, he showed me the parts he replaced and explained why. I was able to get a same day appt after calling around many places. Kim came and gave me a quote for the repairs. My landlord opted for a new stove since it would be a 2 day wait vs. 2 weeks wait plus it's not much more money since it's a 24 inch stove and cheapest possible brand and this is the 2nd time a repair person (different repair company) has come out to fix it. We had a problem with our 6-yr old Amana refrigerator. Best One Appliance is one of the few places that handles Amana fridges. First Kim replaced the relay (the cheap repair).. the fridge worked for about a week and then unfortunately the problem recurred. So then we had to go for the compressor replacement (the "we had hoped to avoid" expensive repair). Cost about $550, but given the complexity of the procedure and the part cost (at the cheapest web parts store) is about $300, and buying a new fridge of the same size/capability it would have cost us $2000, I thought the price was very fair. Kim was very competent, friendly and very experienced. When working he does not waste time and is very efficient. He is also very friendly. The only gripe I had is the difficulty we had in contacting him. for weeks, his voicemail was full and won't take any messages, and once connected, doing a phone tag takes about a day or two each way to communicate (I call, get a reply next day or two, I call back immediately, takes another day or two to get a reply, etc). If it weren't for the communication difficulty in trying to contact him, he would have gotten a 5 star... Once the appointment is made, he was very good about calling ahead if there would be a delay. I've had Kim work on a few repairs around the house - washer and dryer, oven, etc. Some things he was able to fix, while others he told us were un-fixable and needed to be replaced. In the cases where things could not be repaired, he did not charge us for his time in coming over and determining the issues, which was nice. Some of the others reviews mention that he can be hard to reach at times. It is a one-man company, so if he's busy or out of town, it might take longer for him to return a call. For real emergency situations, it might be faster to contact a company that specializes in emergency service. Otherwise, for regular repair work, Kim's service and prices are excellent. read more

We have a 7 year old Maytag Neptune dryer that suddenly wouldn't heat. Kim was highly responsive and scheduled an appointment for the next day, with a two hour window. He called when he was on his way, which was nice, as we have had other repairmen arrive well outside of their provided times. He assessed the situation in about 5 minutes, let me know the approximate cost, and repaired it in about 10-15 minutes. He also explained clearly exactly what the issue was. Kim is excellent and so honest. We were hearing an occassional noise in our 3 year old Kitchen Aid refrig and wanted it checked out. Kim explained specifically what causes the sounds and said it was not necessary to do anything unless the noise bothered us. I called them first thing on a Friday and had to leave a message. They didn't call back. I called again Tuesday morning. Another message, and still no call back. At the end of the day I called another company, which actually answered their phone and made an appointment. Kim came out and took a look at my Whirlpool oven that stopped heating up and was very professional, friendly and efficient. He replaced the ignitor and since that didn't fix the problem, he determined that it must be the circuit board. He advised that we're better off just replacing the oven rather than spending $350 on the replacement part. I got the impression that he is very knowledgeable and will go the extra step to take care of his customers. Will definitely use Best One Home Appliance again. P.S. Prior to calling Kim, I had tried calling the other highly rated San Mateo appliance repair company first (AAA) and even after two voicemails and five days, I never got a return call.
