Amazing expertise and service! After replacing my Sears dryer of 30 years (no problems whatsoever) with the Amana dryer 3 years ago, I have had problems with the dryer after the 1-yr warranty expired. I found Russ of Aras Appliance Repair on Yelp and although there hasn't been recent reviews, I liked what I saw of past reviews. He came and fixed the relay switch issue in March and charged me minimally because it was a loose wire which he reattached. In July, the starter button stopped working and I contacted him. He said he was on vacation and would come right away when he returned. Meanwhile, I ordered a replacement starter button from Amana but it didn't work. Russ came right out and took the whole dryer apart-the drum did not have a proper seal and its edges were bent, several wires were loose, the exhaust was not positioned correctly, etc. He methodically solved all the issues. The moral of the story-do not buy a Amana (Whirlpool) dryer and use ARAS (affordable, reliable, appliance). read more

One night during the recent heatwave, my refrigerator decided it wanted to stop working, and started leaking everywhere. Needless to say, I needed help. Not wanted to shell out the money for a new fridge, I searched for appliance repair services, and I came across ARAS Appliance repair and gave them a call. I got a hold of Tom, and he was able to fit me in the next morning. After arriving, he was able to quickly diagnose the issue and even had the broken part I needed in stock! 20 minuted later, I had a working fridge again. Our Kenmore washer broke down two days ago. Two issues: No Spin, No drainage Called ARAS, yesterday, and Russell was able to come out within two hours to diagnose the problem. He checked it out, turned it on, and after a few minutes, he said the pump was broken. I wrote him a check and he left on his way to pick up the part. I made an appointment for the next morning at 9:30 am for installation. It's 11:30 am now and my washer is spinning and draining. He showed up on time, did the installation, and ran a successful rinse & spin cycle. No Hassle, no BS, just work and service. Joining the chorus of 5* reviews for Russell... our furnace stopped working on the weekend, right as the weather turned exceptionally cold (OK, low 50's, but it's the Bay Area!) I called 20 companies and everyone was booked 2+ weeks out as the weather had just changed. Russell luckily was able to squeeze us in the same day. He quickly (30-45 mins) diagnosed what had broken. Unfortunately, parts were only available in a Home Depot 20 miles away. Russell offered to pick up the parts that I ordered that night and come back the next day to fix the system. The next day, he showed up and again within 30-45 mins the system was fixed. He was quick (and got the job done!) and I felt the price was fair. My occurrence with ARAS was with my big Viking double door fridge with freezer below. It started to leak onto the floor and was driving us crazy. I called the Viking approved service location that I had used before (with satisfaction) but was told it would take a week to come. In desperation I combed through the Yelp reviews and came on ARAS. and its 5 star reviews. I called and a half and hour later Russell was at my door (Russell is a nickname, Rusal is his proper name). He quickly sized up the situation and said he would return early the next day with his equipment (he is located in the next town over). He did a major tear-down of the freezer to access the drain that had accumulated ice, thawed that problem and then did a lot of preventive maintenance of the compressor and coils that are well hidden way in back and under. Then he reassembled the fridge and fired it up. Success. By the way, this Viking is a rebranded KitchenAid which means that service and parts are readily available, Russell is energetic, neat and tidy, hard working, and an overall nice guy. I called Russell and did all I could trying to describe the problem with our dishwasher over the phone. The information I gave him probably wasn't much help, but Russell did promise to come over on the very same day between 4 and 6. And as promised, he arrived promptly at 4:30 and got right to work. He tinkered with our dishwasher for nearly 45 minutes, pretty much taking it completely apart. After a deep analysis of what was causing that evil Linda Blair demonic infused sound coming out of our washer Russell gave me the bad news. The motor was dying. He told me he could replace it, but considering the cost and age of our dishwasher he said it was probably best to replace the machine. 5 stars for trustworthy, reliable, honest and friendly service. read more

This was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a repair man. We called ARAS appliance to fix our freezer that wasn't closing. Russell came out in a couple of hours. It took a while to figure out what was wrong but he, with help from my husband, finally figured it out and fixed it. (It was an obscure problem.) Then he noticed that my refrigerator door wasn't closing properly. Apparently the original installation guys didn't install the unit properly. He advised that the most reliable way to fix it was to replace it. After finding out that a replacement my would cost about half the price of a new unit, I balked. So then he came up with a workaround but had to buy supplies. When he came out a second time to fix the door, he refused to accept payment for the supplies or his time, saying that because he didn't fix it the first time, he couldn't accept additional payment. He's an ethical guy as well as a resourceful repair man. I would definitely hire him again! read more

I always am skeptical when someone gets so many 5-star reviews, but for Russell, I can see why. I am here to contribute my own reasons for giving him another 5-star review. Given I love sparkling water, and am pained to throw away so many Le Croix containers, I took the plunge and bought a sparkling water dispenser for my home. No, not your typical SodaStream; it's actual chilled, sparkling water from a faucet, just like you would get filtered water. It was an appliance sold by Everpure, supposedly a well-known manufacturer in the filtered water industry. Fast forward 3 1/2 years, and like most any appliance these days, it stops working. I am heartbroken, since I am now officially addicted to sparkling water, and can't imagine drinking plain tap. I call Everpure, who explains to me that my appliance, originally made in Italy, has been discontinued, so no parts will be available even if they could fix it. So now I'm stuck with a very expensive box underneath my sink that only dispenses lukewarm sparkling water (yes, it tastes as bad as it sounds). I spend about a month calling around for a plumber or appliance repair tech who will attempt to fix it. No one will touch it. I finally find Russell's company on Yelp, and I am joyous when he says he thinks he can fix it. I mean, it's just an appliance that chills water, right? He comes by on a Wednesday to pick it up, and miraculously returns the following Monday to reinstall it. To my delight, cold, chilled sparkling water is now running through my faucets. Life is good again! I wish there were more vendors like him in the world. The kind that are knowledgeable, and want to help. Instead of sending another piece of metal to the landfill, and having to shell out $$$ to buy another machine, he saved me from this agony. Responsive, fast, saved me big $$ on my washer repair. 5 stars! Longer story: Our washer broke on a Sunday, and I started searching for reputable repair services that night. I saw that ARAS had a 24-hour phone line, which seemed unlikely but the reviews were uniformly strong, so I called and Russ picked up at 10pm on a Sunday. He gave me a two-hour window on Monday to check out the machine. (Repair via Whirlpool's site was going to arrive in 12 days.) He arrived on the dot, did some diagnostics, and seeing that I'd opened the machine and tried to do some diagnosis myself (with the help of YouTube videos), more or less encouraged me to buy the broken control board and replace it myself. It was that or he'd do it for $350. I found the part online for $300, then on another site for $200, then on eBay for $85 and then a used but guaranteed to work on eBay for $45. That part arrived in three days, I put it in without much trouble, and the machine is working great. Russ got his service fee, I saved $300, and he's earned a lifelong customer, plus this 5-star review! read more

Mind it, I never expected him to come back so quickly, as it was the day after Thanksgiving! Lo and behold, he came in today took a look at my stove and quickly diagnosed my problem.. I called ARAS on Monday, 4/12 to help with a dryer that had a burning smell. Russell arrived within a few hours, cleaned the unit and diagnosed several issues which explained why it was taking forever to dry our laundry. He was able to fix one problem immediately, then came back Tuesday early evening (no doubt after a full day of work) to install another new part. The dryer is now working efficiently. He called me yesterday (Wed) to check in and make sure the dryer was ok. Russell is a gem and I'm glad I found him. He is now our "appliance guy." Russell saves the day! The Problem: I have a french door refrigerator. For the past couple of years, we've been having issues with the freezer and the fridge. Because the way french door refrigerators circulate temperature from the freezer to the fridge, we have been experiencing problems since we had problems closing the freezer door. Once the freezer door became unhinged, and never closed properly, it caused condensation and ice, therby affecting the circulation to the fridge area. The Solution: Calling Russell and having him take a look at your problem! I went through several repair services the past couple of years. Each service never solved the problem. They either told me it was something else, or I'd have to purchase a new fridge. WTF. When I called Russell, he took time to look at the problem. He evaluated the refrigerator, then recommended a couple solutions I should head down. His price was pretty reasonable, and he set expectations. He ended up defrosting all parts of the freezer, including the circulator and coils. He took the time and effort, to 1) properly evaluate and 2) solve and fix. HIRE Russell and expect time, effort, honesty and care. Because of Russell, he fixed our fridge, we now have a working ice maker, and the temperature circulation for the fridge has been solved. I saved a couple thousand by hiring him for a couple hours. read more

Our story begins in October 2013 with a 5 year old leaking LG washing machine... We originally called Sears to repair it (since we bought it there). When they came, they charged us $95 and told us it was a plumbing problem. So, we called a plumber and paid their fee to visit us. The plumber confirmed it was not a plumbing problem. So then we called ARAS who came over right away, did not charge a fee and within minutes diagnosed that the washing machine was indeed leaking. They even took a photo of the actual leak (visible beneath) -- and told us that for the cost to repair, we might as well just go buy a new washing machine. In the end, they did not make any money on our visit, but... earned a lifelong customer for the next time we need help. read more

Russell was cameout same day and was willing to accommodated my schedule. Ultimately things did not work out with the job as we had both hoped. Great overall experience. Russell is very knowledgeable and not eager to rip you off. His initial assessment was that compressor cooler fan is dead, and replacement would cost us $350. We were ready to pay, yet he followed up with the manufacturer and they told him to perform additional diagnostics. As a result, it turned out that the problem is not the motor, but one of the circuit boards. Now it gets even better: Russell explained that the boards are expensive and not returnable, so he volunteered with a "work-around" (basically, a hack) that would allow to bypass them altogether! The only minor issue is scheduling difficulty. Russell agreed to come on a short notice, but then he had to call in and reschedule; on that new day he was 2 hours late. This is not a big deal though, so my rating is 4.5 stars, rounding up. read more

Our dryer quit working, and being the adventurous type, I was about to go after repairing the unit myself until my wife stopped me. :) I'm very happy I did, as the crew at ARAS were excellent. I called, and I was able to schedule an appointment for the same day. I had an initial consultation and he knew exactly what was wrong -- it was our door switch. He had to get the part, but he was able to return the very next day. A pleasant surprise. The crew came over today, and within under an hour, the dryer was fixed! I was a little nervous as our dryer is up in a nook, but they were able to take it down with respect to the area. They also vacuumed out the area too and put it back just right. After the dryer repair was finished, I was shown the faulty part, and it was definitely a fried component on the door switch. Long story short: Glad I called ARAS and I'll be happy to call them again if we have any future issues. read more

We've used Russell a couple of times and he has been very good. Last year our dishwasher flooded and he came over on a Sunday afternoon and fixed it very quickly. Last weekend, we called him as our garbage disposal and instant hot water faucet had broken, and he and Igor able to come on Sunday morning to attend to both. He replaced the garbaged disposal with a new one I had pre-purchased and was efficient about it. The instant hot water tap we initially thought he had fixed by replacing the filter in the faucet, which took less than 1 minute, but after they left it re-broke. We texted Russell and he turned around and came right back to fix it. Here's the crazy part - he had told me we had already paid for the job, so this would be free of charge. Long story short, it took him ~3-4 hours, including multiple trips to OSH, to install the new hot water tap I had pre-purchased. It involved unforseen work like having to enlarge a hole in our granite countertops to install the new tap. Nonetheless, even after spending most of a working day on that project, Russell did not ask for additional payment. He said we already had paid for that job the first time around, before he spend all that time and effort on his return trip. We were shocked and insisted on paying him more. Our refrigerator stopped working on a Saturday and we called ARAS Appliance Repair. Russel arrived shortly, fixed the problematic relay and capacitor by replacing them with a 3 in 1 self starter kit. He also explained how the compressor worked and how the relay and capacitor were not able to keep up with the failing compressor and why the problem occurred in the first place. He is a very experienced and humble person and he had a wonderful attitude throughout his visit. I would definitely recommend ARAS to everyone who have problems with appliances. read more
