At first contact, I wasn't entirely certain that they had accepted my job offer and date. I did have to message a few times to make sure the date and time was actually locked down. I, and so many of us, have been "flaked" on in the past, as I did a few times in Nashville somewhat recently. So I felt I had to reach out a little more as I had a very tight timeline and was just trying to get all my ducks in a row. However with a few messages we did lock in the day and time with a couple days to spare. I would just say that when we are here putting multiple offers on Yelp, you do end up getting blasted by some companies immediately, too much so, but it does make them "seem eager" to lock in the job. Just a little better first contact would be the only slightly negative thing I could say. On to the great: I received a call and message from Gio of their ETA the day before and on the day, which they met. The heat/humidity combination got really bad, still they had surprisingly great attitudes and asked all the right questions when they came up. They wrapped and protected all the furniture as if it was going in a cross country van/semi-trailer. Richard Bailey gets 10 stars for price, communication; recognizing the sense of urgency and the crew he hired to complete my move. He actually texted me right away; then we spoke briefly. Based on the conversation he gave me a verbal quote and booked my move for the next afternoon. His crew showed up on time. We're very professional; had great personalities and got me moved in two and a half hours. Nothing was broken either. Assembled my washer and dryer too. One of the crew members even gave me decorative advice as I moved from a 2300 sq. ft. house to a 1300 sq. ft. apartment and my couch didn't initially look right where I thought it should be! We chose Fresh Start Moving in part because we wanted to support a veteran-owned business. Unfortunately, this experience was disappointing. Before the move, Fresh Start Movers completed an in-person walkthrough of our four-bedroom home and belongings to assess what needed to be moved and provide an anticipated cost. We relied on that assessment and the quote they provided. What was especially frustrating was that we were not informed that an additional trip would be required until after the movers had already started loading our household goods into the truck. At that point, we were told a second trip would be necessary, which caused the total cost of our move to essentially double. Considering the company had already conducted an in-person walkthrough of a four-bedroom home, I believe they should have arrived with a truck large enough to reasonably accommodate the move. At minimum, we should have been advised beforehand that multiple trips might be necessary and what that could mean financially. Finding out after loading had already begun left us with very little choice. I do want to acknowledge that the movers themselves were polite and worked to complete the move. My concerns are primarily with the company's planning, pricing, communication, and follow-up. After the move, we contacted Fresh Start Movers multiple times regarding two unresolved issues. First, there is a box that their movers packed that we have been unable to locate. We packed everything else ourselves, so we are specifically trying to determine where the box they packed was placed. Second, a piece of our treadmill was broken during the move, and we are still waiting for a response regarding reimbursement so that we can order the replacement part. The move took place on a Tuesday, and nearly a week later, we are still waiting for the company to address the treadmill reimbursement and provide clarification regarding the box their movers packed. The lack of follow-up has made an already frustrating experience even more disappointing. We selected this company because we wanted to support a veteran-owned business, and we expected better communication and accountability. Although the move was completed and the movers were courteous, the unexpected second trip, a final cost that was essentially double the original quote, poor communication, and unresolved concerns involving missing and damaged property significantly affected our experience. Sylvia came to our apartment a few weeks ago to see the lay of the land. She recommended going by an hourly rate rather than a flat price, because the flat price could change depending on what's encountered. She also emphasized to label boxes well like: master bedroom, kitchen, etc. so we went with hourly rate $165 per hour for three movers. There was an up-charge of $75 because they were also moving a gun safe. They arrived at 8:45am and took a quick tour of our apartment. They explained how they go about it. The movers are Luis, Josue and Juan. What a team. Luis is the leader. Amazingly, they were done in 2.75 hours. This is the furniture for a two bedroom, two bath, den, kitchen, living room , dining area and the balcony we're talking about. Plus all the accompanying boxes for each area. We had boxed up everything we could and labeled as Sylvia had requested. And gave them clear paths as best we could to the major pieces. We had a lot of boxes! We wholeheartedly recommend this company for your moving needs.
