How do you mess with someone in the land of shoe repair? Well ... 1) You could put oversized heals on their boots to unbalance it. 2) Then say, it's "regulation," oh OK. 3) Then put black paint all over their leather soles. 4) Then hand them a boot with wet paint so their hand is blackened. 5) Then leave glue on upper portion of their boot. 6) Then, of course, serve the customer who came behind them first. 7) Then say you're securing heal with a nail but don't. 8) Then grind up their good heals, outer edge for max damage (my favorite). I brought in a new pair of Vionic sandals to have altered. Darell said he would shorten 2 straps and my shoes would be ready in about 2 weeks. The whole process took close to two months. After not hearing back from him in a month, I called back to be told he hadn't started working on them. He asked to be given a few more days but they still were not started. After calling again a week or so later, I came in to pick up my sandals, ticket in hand, only to be told he had given my sandals to someone else. After 3 or 4 days the other person returned my sandals and when I came in to pick them up, I learned that only one of the 2 sets of straps were altered. I took them home only to find out sometime later that the back heel straps were cut and altered ( the wrong strap) and now, after not that much wear, I need to take them to another shoe repair because the stitching done by Darrll is all unraveling. read more

I had what I thought was a *GREAT* place, but now my heels are coming off both sets of boots that they fixed. I don't know what glue/exopy they used to put the new heels on, but it should take more than 1 year for them to come off. Normal wear and tear is fine, but seriously, I'm going to just buy myself some shoe-glue to repair the heels on these boots rather than wait 6 weeks every year for these guys to do it. read more

I had a tear in my leather jacket. I took it to Best shoe repair on December 11th. He told me it would be $100. I declined and went to leave. He said that he would do it for $50. So I agreed he said he call me in two weeks when it was done. I didn't hear from him. So I went back on Jan. 5th, 2021, I discovered that he hadn't even started on it. I asked him to give me back the jacket and he refused. He told me to come back later. I went back on the 6th and got it. He is thorough in the best way; he doesn't just repair what issues are requested, but he evaluates and repairs each item comprehensively to really get the most life out of it. He repairs things to last - no shortcuts or band aids. For example, I brought in heels with gouging in the leather along the back of the heel. They had a unique layered leather wrap. I expected a patch at best with such a unique material. Daryl did one better - he special ordered an exact match! You could not tell the difference between the shoe with the original material and the shoe with the heel wrap replacement. Worst service = no service. I took in a small purse needing only a zipper on Saturday, explained it had to be done by Wednesday as I was leaving town before they opened on the following Thursday. If they could not fix it I would look elsewhere. After assuring me they would certainly meet this deadline, possibly have it done Tuesday and to call, and having me PREPAY the repair I left thinking they would get it done. I called on Tuesday and after some confusion they once again assured me it would be fixed on Wednesday, the date on my ticket. I called Wednesday at 1:00 and was once again assured it would be fixed by 6:00 PM. I walked in at 5:55 PM, they had to look for the purse and then came out to tell me they could not "get" to it today. This is completely unacceptable. I requested my refund - given with no problem, took the purse and exited. The man told me they were just crazy busy and were 2 weeks out. Fine. Had I been told that in the beginning I could have had the repair done elsewhere but I trusted they would stand to their word and finish the repair as promised. I can not trust them in the future if this one little fix could not be done - or if they would have at the very least - told me even on Tuesday when I called so I could make other arrangements. The hardest place to find but I love it!! After the shoe repair place in Graceland went out of business, I was at a loss!! I had a purse that had to be fixed and I didn't want to go to Polaris or Westerville or (Gasp!!) the short north for problems. Well I went to 1/2 off day at Volunteers of America and bought some nice winter boots and leather boots for the 3 werks of fall we get in Ohio. 6 bucks for 2 pairs of good boots. The winter boot needed the heel to be glued and the fall boots needed new heels. You pay up front in cash or by card. Pretty clever. That's the way a shoe store stays in business. Anyway, for $35.00 the owner (I am going to have to get his name next time) completely replaced the soles and the heels because he said they weren't made well on the bottom and they would hurt my feet!!! Omg ladies!! He also cut an inch of the strap on my purse that was too long, sewed it in the back. No charge! I love living in my new neighborhood. The quality of the repairs was great. Once I left completed shoes there for several weeks before I had a chance to get back. This place is great, took in a few pairs of my dress shoes and they were able to recap the heels, also my husband's Harley boots got a little tear in the leather and they were able to stitch it up to the point that you have to look to find it. These guys are super nice and a lot of times deliver right on the spot while you wait... Also they have a really nice selection of shoes and boots for sale, also they have fixed a couple of purse straps for me. I think they are very easy to find, right in the strip center near Busch boulevard and 161. (The Busch Center plaza). This shop is hands down the best shoe repair service I have ever had. Darrel and his brother welcomed me in, made me feel comfortable while I waited, and were able to get new tips put on my boots while I was there. They polished and shined them up to look new, and joked about how I would stop traffic with my renewed kicks! I don't know how they made a 7-year old pair of boots look that good, but $20 is a lot better than $120 for a new pair, and I don't even have to break them in again. A couple months ago I was in town visiting my sister. I was going on vacation the next week and needed a sandal fixed. After calling a handful of other shoe repair shops in town and being turned away because of our time constraints, the wonderful man at this establishment, Darrell, invited us come by and he'd see what he could do for us that same day. In no less than 20 minutes he had fixed my sandal and put a new heel on it because, in his words, "I'm a doctor. I can't see a bullet wound and put a bandaid on it." The price was very affordable, the service outstanding. While we waited we observed him serving other very happy customers. He took his time with each, joking with them, treating them like special guests in his home and then walking each of them to the door. Best shoe repair place I've ever been to. I took in a pair of italian leather shoes that I've owned for 7 years, and were completely ripping apart at the bottom (I thought I was gonna have to throw them out and just brought them in out of desperation). Darryl did a complete gut job, replaced the soles in both shoes and had it done in 2 HOURS!! After a good shine, they looked as good as new, if not better. I have a really nice pair of high-quality, side-zip boots that I wear a lot in less clement weather. While putting them on for the first time this fall I broke the tab off of one of the zippers. So, I took them to the shoe repair shop in the Graceland shopping Center I have been going to for years and found it had closed permanently. Not sure where to go now, I Googled shoe repair and found Best She Repair, which is actually located closer to my house - very convenient! It was a Wednesday; I stopped by with my boots in hand and was greeted by Darrell who I assume is the owner/operator. He took a look at the boots, commented on their quality and informed me that it would not be right to leave them such a state of disrepair. He said he would replace the entire slide on the zipper and lube the teeth of the zipper, to reduce the odds of me ripping the tab off of this one! The price he gave me was very reasonable. I thought it was a little unusual to be asked to pay upfront, but when I thought about it, it actually made a lot of sense. I'm sure there are quite a few pairs of shoes sitting around his shop that he's fixed and never would have been paid for the work he did because they were never picked up. So, I didn't mind that. He said they would be done Saturday. By the following Wednesday I had not been called to come pick them up. But, I was in the area and stopped. Darrell greeted me again, remembered the shoes I dropped off and brought them out. The zipper was repaired and worked great. And the boots had a beautiful shine on them. They looked better then the day I bought them. I happened to be wearing a pair of nice dress shoes that day. He looked at those and told me to take them off. I handed them to him and he took them in the back and shined them for me - no charge. They looked just as amazing as the boots. Darrell knows his work and understands how to treat a customer. I was visiting Columbus for a week on a business trip recently when two zippers broke on my travel bag. I saw the Best Shoe Repair listing on the Internet and took it in on a Tuesday afternoon with hope that Best also repaired luggage in addition to shoes. I met with Darrell, the owner of the establishment, and after looking at the bag he said he thought he'd be able to help me. But then I had to give him the bad news -- I needed to pick up the bag on Thursday afternoon since I was flying home on Friday morning. But in spite of giving him a short time to fix the bag, Darrell came through with flying colors. He fixed the zippers on the bag, I was able to pick it up on time, and the price he charged me was reasonable. If I lived in Columbus, I'd take all of my work to Darrell.
