Unfortunately, this company is not reputable and the customer experience is terrible. I'm not sure why the company owners have gone out of their way to hide their real identities - but I suspect it's not for good reasons. My mistake was hiring them off the sticker we found on our original water heater in the house. We called the number when we needed a repair. I should have checked reviews before hiring them. Please don't make that same mistake. Let me explain my experience and what we've since learned about Best Tec and its manager, Crystal Mollina (aka Crystal Deville). Crystal is neither a considerate nor customer-focused manager. She has a fierce temper and speaks disrespectfully to both clients and her staff (I heard her yelling at one of the technicians while he was trying to assess the situation). She misrepresented the heater we ordered and when we complained the heater wasn't the product expected, she quickly blamed and berated us, then hung up the phone. We paid a lot for the heater Crystal recommended - and when the heater arrived and was the wrong heater, Crystal was startlingly unaccommodating and unwilling to help solve the problem. It's an expensive mistake Crystal made - but we were left out of the money. After being hung up on, we called back and asked to speak to the owner. Crystal picked up the phone and yelled at us for being irresponsible customers. Our experience with herl was uniquely frustrating and troubling (I cannot stress enough how shockingly mean and disrespectful she is to customers) -- I understand the need to want to warn others from experiencing it. We started to do research on Best Tec and discovered many negative reviews here on YELP describing similar experiences. There is another big complaint against Crystal on the BBB (even though Best Tec is not not an accredited BBB company). We searched for Best Tec's owner - and went on a circuitous journey to find it. Best Tec is owned by John Austin Inc., doing business as Best Tec. John Austin (who isn't a person we could find anywhere on the web) is a California Corporation registered in Nevada. (Valerie Mattson Dombrowski, an attorney who also lists her title as VP at Best Tec on her LinkedIn, is the listed corporation agent). There is no Crystal Mollina listed on any LinkedIn or company website. This made sense as we learned that Crystal Mollina is, in fact, Crystal DeVille. Her husband, Robert DeVille, is the owner of John Austin Inc and the construction company, Premier Construction (https://palmdesertbuilder.com). Crystal and Robert are prominently photographed on the Premier Construction site. Premier Construction and John Austin Inc list the same business address as their contact (73950 Dinah Shore Drive, Palm Desert, CA 92211) and have overlapping phone numbers. I have no idea why Best Tec hides its ownership information but I suspect it's tied to Crystal's belligerent behavior toward her customers. The lack of transparency makes it incredibly difficult to file a formal complaint against the company. I cannot stress enough how much I don't recommend working with this company in any capacity. I am surprised that reputable water heating brands have signed with them. They are not a trustworthy business and Ms. Molina - Deville should not be running a customer-facing business. She is incredibly mean to people. read more

Best Tec has the best services techs who know there stuff. They have replaced & maintained my 14 unit Water heater for the past 20 years. This past Saturday, I needed a emergency service call.as our gas h2o heater was making a strange noise. 2 hours later it was determined that the 3 gas burners popped and would be out of service due to safety issues. Monday, Valarie sourced the new burner assembly and did the required maintenance and upgrades and Monday we were back online with hot water for all my tenants. read more

Valerie is claiming to have won in small claims court but that is yet another falsehood put forward by someone who takes pleasure in her little vendettas. Best Tec has no "written confirmation" that they did the job right. They have an email saying my garage could be an appropriate place for the water heater - but it did not say the cubby they put it in was a place it should go. Those are very different things. It explicitly states in the manual, as well as in my conversations with the manufacturer, that the space the put the water heater is too small. The small claims judge has not yet ruled and instead sent the issue for further review by a subject expert. We will have a verdict then, but Valerie is distorting the truth yet again clamoring to have won. I choose to ignore the poor yelp reviews when I went with them, but that was a mistake. The converse of Valerie's claim that people can write anything they want on Yelp is that owners can manipulate the process to make it seem like they have good reviews. I found Best Tec by googling "instant hot water heater repair". I called and had an appointment within days. My old heater was on its last legs and Best Tec explained throughly why it could not be repaired and laid out a few options for replacement. This replacement happened in 2 days. They were neat and efficient. The unit they installed was the same as another unit we have and they fine tuned that one for me at no charge. I would definitely refer Best Tec for water heater replacement or maintenance. As a plus while re plumbing for the new tank they also installed an outside hose bib gratis. Win/win! read more

Terrible customer service. The tech that came to install my hot water valve was terrific. I cannot say the same about management. The tech worked hard but in the end it was a bad part. Ferguson Supplies was wonderful and warrantied the part without question. Best-Tec's management charged me for the techs hours, including at least one hour on the phone diagnosing what was wrong. Once I had the new part, I called Best Tec at 2pm and asked about that they send a tech back to my home. I was told Tuesday (4 days) if I wanted the normal labor rate OR pay $375 an hour if I wanted someone earlier. I requested some consideration due to me paying their labor bill without question. It was very bad luck caused my problem. I offered to pay Best Tec their normal rate of $165 an hour to do the simple installation of the valve. I asked twice and twice told NO. I was shocked at how arrogant and mean spirited their attitude is. I wanted nothing free, just a break on hourly rate, especially after I had paid $495 and the problem was not fixed. After we disagreed with the company's policy to charge us every time they sent a technician to service our water heater, she got really catty (to say the least) and really represented like the trash this company is. Our water heater from AO Smith contracts with "Worst Tec" and unfortunately we were stuck needing their service to fix our water heater. "Worst Tec" came and lit our pilot, dusted the area and within a few hours, heater went out. They came out again, and charged us, this time to find that something was really wrong with the gas valve. I asked Crystal to order the equipment on 6/19 and it came 7 days later!! So we were expected to be without our water heater for a full 7 days!!??? Anyways, about $400 later, we decided to replace our water heater with a new one since this is pretty urgent to us. It was replaced the next day because I figured this Crystal alien would stall ordering our equipment, not surprised by her nasty behavior which I'm sure she's ugly too since she gleams when treating others like shit. Stan knew the problem immediately fixed it and showed us how to perform the preventative maintenance for not only this problem but other items too. He was on time, polite, cordial and friendly. This company is terrible. They were selected by my home warranty company to perform a pool filter repair. I have called seven times during the past two weeks to speak with ANYONE who could answer questions about their diagnosis and repair. I requested a copy of their invoice for the repairs they did, but they will not provide one. They do not return phone calls and are unable to respond to requests for information about their findings. The hot water boiler in our WeHo condo building finally gave up the ghost yesterday, after 20 years of service. Two LA County companies provided rather steep quotes for a replacement and one could not assure near-term availability of the quoted unit. In desperation, a neighbor did a Google search, found Best Tec and - not realizing they were in Palm Desert - contacted their office manager/coordinator Valerie mid-morning. Without hesitation, Valerie dispatched a young tech Josh, who drove over 2 hours to our location to assess our requirements. Josh was very professional and - thanks to real-time communication with HQ - he and Valerie were able to provide binding and very competitive quotes by mid-afternoon. Through email, Valerie also provided Best Tec's documentation, strong references and answered our questions that evening. We called Best Tec this morning to award them the work. By 1 PM, a team of 3 - Stan (the owner), Josh and Victor - were at our location, carrying the specified brand-new boiler unit in their truck. They worked diligently to remove the old unit from a confined space, put in the new equipment and - by early evening - had completed a very neat and professional installation for thousands less than the LA companies planned to charge us. Total rip off artists! I called them to service a tankless water heater that had stopped working. They send a tech out to diagnose the problem. 142.00 later he said he didn't know why it wasn't working, but he would reschedule to do further diagnostics. Ok, I guess it was a sign. I should have known. On the return trip, he flushes the unit and continues his diagnosis. The unit gives error codes, and even I have an idea of what's wrong.... 4 hours later, he admits he can't find the problem and gives me a bill for 600. And says that I should replace the unit. I hand him my credit card and feel the blood rush to my head. 742.00 and I still don't have a water heater that works. Never call these people. They are listed by Rheem as being factory authorized. I had a difficult problem with a solar water system and used the Best Tec firm for the first time. I was very pleased at the result. Crystal, the service rep I dealt with on the phone several times was always concerned and helpful. George and Bill, the techs who performed the work over a period of several weeks were also courteous and professional. I really liked the way they patiently explained technical issues. I was extremely pleased by the way the work went. I was also pleasantly surprised that the cost was much less than I thought it would be considering how much work was done. Cut 2 Best Tec came and the first 15 moms the Tec said he was not able to fix the pool heater but he said he was going to keep checking every time I went over to see what he was doing which was just starting at to heater . they came out to repair my Amerec steam system on thurs, said I needed some parts that were no longer mfg'ered but they would try and hunt them down so they could complete the repairs. the next day I called them and they said they were preparing a quote to replace both units for me which I imagine would run about $4k. I told them I preferred to have it repaired as the units were in great condition which their repair man agreed. they said the parts were not avail and I said I would try and find the parts. later that day I located the parts and arranged shipping to me, advised Peter at BestTec and he wanted to know where I found the parts. I told him it didn't matter but that I had ordered them and they were on the way and I would advise him when I received to schedule the install and repair completion. I received the parts a couple days later, called BestTec and advised and attempted to schedule a repair call to install the parts and complete the repairs. At that time I was told they wouldn't be returning and weren't interested in completing the repairs. I asked for a reason and they would not provide me one. Stan the boiler man and the Best Tec family have provided incredible service for Babe's BBQ & Brewhouse over the past 16 years including coming out in the rain on a Saturday night to fix the boiler on the roof when the hot water went out. They are problem solvers, incredibly resourceful and have been able to solve issues with out of warranty equipment when others could only scratch their heads and walk away. Water heater for the radiant heat broke down a few days before Christmas. Called Best-Tec, had to pay $200 just for the guy to look at it, as it was Holiday hours. Apparently a part needed to be ordered, because my heater is "exotic". It's actually a Munchkin, and I guess fairly common according to other companies. Anyway, I made it clear I would be happy to pay their parts vendor for overnight shipping. Was told no problem. But they didn't call between Christmas and New Years, so I had to wait for them to call on the 2nd. Which they didn't. Went through the whole Holidays 2017 cold snap (45 degrees inside the house), with no heat. Now it's the 19th. Just called them. "After hours" dispatcher, because they close at 4:30 (Must be nice). I asked him to order new part and he said he would when he got back to office 3/15/17 That was $142.00 and he was 1.5 hrs late. I phoned 3/24/17 at 8;05 and was told that they were not sure that part was ordered. I phoned back at 10;20 and left a message. Phoned at 11;00 again and was told they were swamped. I began contacting Best Tec (Palm Desert) 2-3 months ago about adding a ThermaCirc360 to my Rinnai water heater. Not once did Best Tec ever return my phone call. I finally reached a person who asked for my model and serial numbers in order to answer my questions; I never received a call back. After two more calls and contacts, I was told a dispatcher would call me to schedule a visit; no one called. When I called back to talk to a person, she scheduled a tech visit. A half hour before the scheduled visit window, I received a call saying Best Tec did not service my area! We were referred to Best Tec by another company who could not help with our hot water heater. They said they would be out in the morning, and I explained to the girl (very nice girl) on the phone that we had not had hot water for 2 days already because we thought we had the pilot light lit but then discovered the next morning that it went out again. She immediatly dispatched someone out to our house. They were there in under 20 minutes. The fixed the problem and they were very polite. They were fast and knowledgable. They made sure I knew exactly what I was paying for. In summary, great business practice, I highly recommend them! After paying almost $700 for them to tell me that one of my units couldn't be repaired and would need to be replaced I had another company out who fixed it and charged $150.
