The front office is full of barking, yelping little dogs; to the point you can't talk. Outside are two cats who appear to have mange (owned by the owners). The rooms? Initially the screen door locked me out for no reason and the owner makes no apologies. The carpets smell like saturated wet dog, there's cobwebs everywhere, TV and barking dog blares in your room from the neighbor next door, the shower and shower curtain were completely dirty/muddy and full of soap scum. There was white crap (maybe just dog slobber?) spewed all over the brown blanket on the bed. Honestly, it WAS that bad!! The owners were completely rude when I politely asked for something cleaner, telling me to get a refund. (I guess the answer was "no, they couldn't accommodate). The only good thing was that I got 1/2 the money back. Insanely awful!!!

Pros- there was plenty of space for our group of 20+ people to spread out on the property.  We had plenty of room for parking and were only a mile from a grocery store when we needed supplies. There were plenty of bath towels for our use and the AC on the second floor worked well.  There were board games, books and yard games for our group to use. Cons- the property felt rundown and neglected.  The lawn was too high when we arrived and was never mowed during the week we were there. Since we planned to spend a lot of time outside this was disappointing.  The deck on the Lake House is in need of serious repair.  There were pots full of dirt and weeds scattered around and the landscaping was so overgrown we could barely see the lake when sitting on the furniture.  There are some very soft spots in the decking that I was worried someone might actually go through.  The kitchen has an apartment size stove/oven which we were not expecting. The oven wouldn't even fit a standard baking sheet. Our kitchen seemed to be missing a lot of items: can opener, spatulas, a large bowl for mixing, sauce pans, etc.  We also didn't have a single clothes hanger in any of our closets or any floor fans, even though we were told there was at least one for us to use. We were told things get moved around from house to house when groups stay there, which is understandable. I think they need a list of basic items that should be in the house when the cleaning is done so it's ready for the next guests though. Luckily we knew the people in the other rentals and could borrow things from them. The AC on the main floor did not work well. The showers/bathtubs need to be updated.  The grout was stained/dirty and the shower head on the main floor bath was the smallest one I've ever seen.  The living room was a good size but so full of furniture it was hard to move around.  There are also electrical cords running along the walls on both sides of the TV.  You can tell they had to run those for the TV hook ups which is fine, but could be a problem if you have little kids in your group.  None of the outdoor spaces on the property were very well kept up or inviting places to hang out. Overall I feel like it was a good home base if you are going to spend the majority of your time offsite. This property has tremendous potential and would make an awesome small event venue if repairs were made and the grounds were properly cared for. If I was looking for a property for a group of 20-25 people I would stay here again because it is hard to find a place to accommodate that many people. But if I were looking for a place for just my family I would stay elsewhere.

For starters Ernie and Vivian were incredible host, honestly made us feel right at home the second we walked in. The Inn itself, is the perfect combination of old and new, well preserved antiques with modern amenities. We stayed in the spinning wheel room and it was very nice. Of course seeing threw the tub, into the bathroom, from the bedroom, wasn't a typical accommodation we understood that it was a temporary fix. They are planning on remolding the bathroom throughout the house soon. On the other hand, the bed was pretty rough. I hate to mention anything negative about this place but I had to at least prepare you for your sleep. Saying it's hard, would be an understatement. If they were to update the mattresses around the time they are planning on the bathrooms this would be in my top 3 B&B's we have stayed at. It's still in my top 5, but the bed is holding it back. However once you wake up crack your back and stretch out a bit you quickly forget there could've been anything wrong. The breakfast was a decadent feast with homemade jam, whipped cream, and even maple syrup. Then to burn it all off, there beautiful home is located on 127 acres of even more beautiful woods equipped with trails for easier walking. I had no idea where we were going but was just instructed to pack a swimsuit, comfy clothes (aka no "going out clothes") and some bug spray. Now, people who know me (especially my hubbie), knows I am not a fan of the outdoors nor do I like camping. It was a non-negotiable for me that I will never go camping with him. So, when I heard "bug spray", I was on high alert. As we continue our drive away from Chicago, I'm trying to get my bearings on which direction we're headed...nope, not Wisconsin, nope, not Purdue (where we graduated), but north after the Indiana border...aha! Michigan! However, that still did not help me figure out what we were going to do for our anniversary. At first, I thought, oh by the lake...then we drove inland...ehhh...that's when he lost me. For the life of me, I could not Sherlock Holmes my way into solving the mystery. A few hours later, we arrive at a building and met Mark, the "concierge". With his Australian accent, I half expected to see a kangaroo on this trip. However, we follow him on a dirt road and get to a gate that opens from the side with a sign saying "Meemo's Farm Game Preserve & Retreat" and I literally thought "Jurassic Park"! Aaaaaaaaaaaaah! I couldn't believe he was taking me camping. Then, as we continued through the road, passing trees, some creeks, more trees, we drive up to a log cabin and can see a lake in front of it. My first thought was "At least it wasn't a tent, but...we drove 5 hours to stay in a 1-room Lincoln Log House?" Mark opens the door...and I swear I am on "MTV Cribs"! We walk upon a threshold to the "Great Room" - complete with HUGE flat screen TV, leather sectional, dining room with an antler chandelier, and a state-of-the-art kitchen in a rustic log cabin house design. Then we go to the bottom floor that leads east and west - one towards the gym and the other to another kitchen, poker table, and....a 2-lane bowling alley!! It was indeed not a 1-room cabin, but a 3-bedroom, 4-bath luxury lodge complete with a hot tub on the top deck, comfy patio furniture, a fire pit, and a grill. Also, several great touches like towel warmers and heated floors in the bathrooms! We spent 3 days in this luxury retreat called "The Lanes" using the hot tub, bowling alley, gym, walking the woods, and basically resting and relaxing. This property sits on ~1,300 acres with several other cottages and has several activities including hunting, skeet shooting, ATV, horseback riding, etc. I now have fond memories of "glamping" in Michigan and look forward to our next visit! Water/electric hookups tend to be on opposite sides or different locations on all sites. Campground is more suitable for larger groups rather than a leisure family weekend stay. Beach area is clean for a private lake, yet it is a small area. Hard to tell if the slides are free for campers or have to pay. Lack and miscommunication within the campground and its employees is a disappointment while confusing. Odd hours of camp store and campground office. Closest store off of grounds is about 10-15mins away heading towards Big Rapids 131 on ramp. Review: Experienced campers with travel trailer. Decided to stay here after hearing about the positive experiences our church groups have had on recent trips. I would like to point out that we were camping as a small family stay and not part of any church or summer camp group. Our reservation for a water electric site (a fri-mon stay) was placed a few wks in advance. The original site they reserved for us was on the Bayview side and not accommodating for a reg 30ft travel trailer. The electrical outlet was placed right next to the fire pit along with the site next to us. The pits are not moveable. In order to have electric on our site, the cord would run over the fire pit or tightly on the side of the pit. The idea of having a fire did not seem safe at all because of this issue. The water hookup also did not reach. When we spoke to the office about our site, they highly suggested we could buy another water hose from their store to fix the problem or we could move to another site until Sunday in which we would have to move by 1pm for the next campers coming in. We opted to switch sites because even with us not having a fire, the site next to us having a fire so close to the electrical unit made us uneasy. The lack of communication between campground offices and employees was confusing and tiresome throughout the stay. Each time we would ask if there was a cancellation on the site where we moved or when/where we would have to move on Sunday the office had no idea of what we were talking about and we would have to explain to them the situation over. When the office was closed, the camp store would also access the reservation software and try to find out a solution. One of those being our first site that we moved off of with the electrical over the fire pit. The first site we moved to by them was right on the lake which was nice. Aside from the sites being close together, the setup of the fire pit, electric, and water hookup was much more thought out and fits a regular 30ft travel trailer nicely. A lot of the workers there are teens, the ones who ran the activities by the lake or worked in the lake house were not helpful and seemed bothered by helping guests. We saw a majority of them on their cell phones a lot of the time and ignoring guests when they would need help for the boats or slides. We had purchased tickets for some of the activities at the camp store. The employee who had help us could not give us any information for the activity where it was located up or the specifics of it along with lack of communication in purchasing tickets for the boat or slide at the store and the lake. They do offer a free petting zoo which was nice. However, a lot of the other campers would let their kids run wild in there. I felt bad for the animals because kids would just climb into the cages with the animals or open the doors to their cages. There was little supervision by the campground in the petting zoo area in care for the animals. Located in the bathrooms is a dishwashing area which was nice to have one inside; however, it is right when you walk into the bathrooms. There is no mat or sign for the floor because it gets so wet from the dishwashing area. There is a little drain in the floor that helps a little, but the floor still gets terribly slippery. Overall, we were a little disappointed in our stay because we have heard such great things about the campground. I feel they have great ideas for their campers, but the lack in miscommunication throughout the campground provides a lack in experience for the campers. I did feel that our family was inconvenience towards the campground as they had a summer camp group coming in as well as a local church group they were setting up for near us in the Bayview area as well. that seems to be where they focus their attention and great experiences on. After we moved to our final site, the Bayview area did have a lot of cars parked down there from a group coming in. It was tight and was not great for hitching up a camper to tow out or just simply parking your car there. I think if we attended here in a larger group or attend the summer camp program our experience would be different.
