Best Western Plus New Englander - Woburn, MA Stayed here from Oct 30 to Nov 1 for a short vacation in Massachusetts. The entrance was welcoming, and the staff--especially the friendly woman in the breakfast area--made a great impression. She was always cleaning and had a kind, upbeat energy that stood out. The room had two queen beds, a large cabinet with an ironing board and extra comforter, a desk, and a cool refrigerator--all solid amenities. The TV was tiny, and the constant Spectrum pop-up commercials were a bit annoying, though the remote was kind of cute. The room smelled strongly of cleaning products, but it wasn't unbearable. The chair was stained, and the carpet felt like a throwback to the '90s. The bathtub was unusually high, which could be tricky for some guests. The bed was very comfy, and the sheets were clean and soft, but the pillows were too small and flat--please invest in better ones! The pool was okay, and the gym could use an upgrade (maybe add some free weights and fix the odd smell). The food changed daily, which was nice, but overall it was bland--convenient, but not memorable. One suggestion: the Best Western we stayed at in Connecticut had an EV charger. Please consider installing a Level 2 charger here--it would be a huge plus for travelers like us. What saved this from being a 3-star stay? The 24/7 coffee station--a small but mighty perk. We were visiting from San Diego on a road trip after several hours of driving would decide to stay at this hotel made a mistake on the booking. I called Expedia to see if they can help me out with the booking. They said the hotel needed to approve the refund, hotel never approved it. They charged me for the day and I didn't stay not even a partial refund, called Expedia again and they couldn't help me either so I ended up booking another hotel in another city. Very bad customer service understood it was my fault, but they couldn't do anything for me at all. read more

This place is very ran down old-fashioned. The breakfast sucks. The staff is like not with it and I stayed there for five nights with my pet service dog. I checked out and then I wanted to check back in and I booked the room. Everything was all set paid for three nights I guess the hotel they say oh we're all booked up. You can't stay here because an incident that happens with your dog. What do you mean what happened with my dog first off? We were there for five nights and everything was fine. This place is ridiculous so therefore, I had to get my money refunded which took a couple days and they made up some excuse that I couldn't stay there with a service animal, which is crazy. This was by far the worst hotel from beginning to end. We were doing a mini get away for the night with our 1 year old son. All excited for the free breakfast in the am and the pool (which is the main reason we came). When we arrived and checked into our room #316 everything electronic in the room was unplugged and not working. The furniture and walls were scratched and dented and ripped. Chair was broken and stained. Went downstairs to the lobby to get some milk, they didn't have any in the mini store in lobby. When I asked the attendant working the front desk he told me they have milk at breakfast while seeing me holding my son and didn't offer to get me anything. Just shocked at how rude this was. Clearly if they had milk in the hotel you would think they would offer a tiny carton for the time being from the kitchen... NOPE. I was stunned at this. Then we went down to check out the pool with our son. Pool was filthy and things were floating at the top and the bottom of the pool looked green and algae. Pool looked like it hasn't been cleaning all season. It was just disgusting we just turned around and went back to our room. Went to dinner at Sam walkers tavern and that was probably my the only good part of staying at this hotel. Food was amazing and staff was super friendly and oh they gave us two extra things of milk for our son free of charge. Overall hotel was horrible other than the location. From the cleanliness to the rude staff and to be charged a price of $250 for this one night stay is deplorable. I do not recommend staying here! Find another hotel trust me! read more

Let me start off by saying I stood in room 216... and got bites all over my hands and thighs from bed bugs. I took pictures of it so you'll see it in the review. It's like a good 30 minutes driving to Salem so not the greatest area. But there's a McDonald's across the street. The manager Sharon was nice enough to refund me and move me to a different room but honestly even moving to a different room I couldn't sleep because I was so scared to get bit again or that even my 3 year old son would get bit. I originally gave this hotel 4 stars, but that was before I took a shower (or surprise bath) while staying ! The tub had peeling paint, and it took a while for the water to drain. Other than that, this was a nice hotel. See original review below: I booked this hotel spur of the moment because I just wanted some peace and quite- but didn't want to travel too far. Upon arrival- I was greeted by the front desk receptionist and was able to check in about 30 minutes early, which was nice. She won extra brownie points by giving me complimentary apple cider donuts! Yum! The hotel is clean and it is connected to Waxy O'Conner's Irish Pub and Restaurant. I stopped by for some lunch and the food was delicious! So happy that I was able to walk over without driving around to find something since I was starving ! My room was very clean, the bed was big, and the bathroom was clean. It came with a micro-fridge combo which was great when I wanted to heat up and store my left overs. The quiet atmosphere and desk was nice because I was able to get some work done. Although my view wasn't that great, I really liked the big windows ! They have a free continental breakfast, indoor pool, and a VERY small fitness section. read more

During my stay at this hotel a member of their team entered my room while I was away at a funeral. I had placed the DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door expecting that my room would not be entered. A member of the maintenance team came into my room regardless and exchanged my air conditioning unit. The property did not notify me. They did not attempt to contact me via phone, email or any other method. Furthermore upon discovery of this, the property took a very cavalier attitude toward my experience and what felt like a violation as a female traveling alone for a funeral. It took 3 days to get on the phone with a decision maker at the property and when I asked for a refund for my stay, the best the manager would do is refund me one night. This was a nightmare situation, but customer service is defined by how you handle a mistake after it has been made, and I would have expected a full refund at the very minimum, but they refused to do that. It was highly disappointing and I therefore cannot recommend this as a good place to stay in this area. read more

Do NOT stay here. Not safe!! Lack of security! I was given keys to an already occupied room!! I recently traveled in this area and booked a room for one night. I was given two access cards to a room. When I unlocked the door, there were several pieces of luggage and clothing lying around the room!! I was absolutely shocked and horrified that someone could so easily be given access to another person's occupied room!! I'm thankful nobody was in the room at that time. Otherwise, the result could have been fatal had I startled someone walking in on them!! Not only are there major security issues, but also lack of cleanliness & many items need repair. Ice machine wasn't working, water damage on bathroom ceiling, dirty carpets with stains and most disgusting was finding hair on the beds, sink, & shower! I sent a lengthy email to the hotel outlining all of these issues and got back a cut and paste email, accepting no responsibility for any issues and asking that I stay again (never! This was my second stay at the Best Western in Woburn, just outside of Boston - check in again was super easy - it was so lovely, Kim at the counter recognized me from my last stay. The rooms are newly renovated and so spacious, very tidy, and neat. Huge desk in the room to spread out and get work done. Always the showers are hot, breakfast good to go for the next day, recommend for business. Slept like a baby as usual, everything was great! Will be back! ____ I stayed at the Woburn Best Westerner while traveling to Boston and it was all smooth sailing - check in was easy, and the receptionist noticed I had a few bags and made sure my room was closer to the elevator - very much appreciated as I wasn't traveling lightly. The staff at the counter were super friendly and welcoming AND free parking! The room was so spacious and I had the hottest shower on arrival, it was great, slept like a baby in their beds, really nice, and clean rooms. I usually do not write reviews, especially not bad ones. This is an exception. We stayed in room 220 at the best western. We arrived after 10pm and we were really tired. Unfortunately we kept waking up from the loud sounds of the ice machine which was located directly across the hallway. When I woke up in the morning, I noticed that their is a big gap all around the door (as you can see in the picture). The bottom line is that this is not acceptable accommodation. Being woken every 40 mins or so throughout the night by the aggressive sound of falling ice is not a good night's sleep but rather torturous. What made it even worse is that my wife is 6 month pregnant and she had a horrible night because of it. When I brought this issue to the attention of the manager Peggy Daly, she was unhelpful and dismissive, saying that no one has ever complained about this issue before. Maybe she should spend a night in room 220 to get the full experience of the establishment she manages? No remedies were offered. read more

The Best Western Plus New Englander in Woburn, MA is incredibly conveniently located. It's right off of I-93 and a short drive from downtown Boston. You have easy access to the big city without all of the noise and hassle of actually staying in the downtown area. The staff was very friendly and quick addressing any requests I had. The rooms were very clean, featuring a super comfy bed, TV, Wi-Fi, coffee machine, refrigerator, desk and many more amenities. Free continental breakfast is offered every morning and is quite delicious (I even took some back to my room for lunch later in the day). There's a nice restaurant connected to the hotel as well and with your stay at The Best Western Plus New Englander you get 10% off of your meal from there. I had a wonderful weekend in the New England area thanks to The Best Western Plus New Englander and will definitely stay here again next time I'm in town. read more

I was staying here on business and I expected better. Sure, the rooms are comfortable and the pool and breakfast are nice, but some of the staff here are aggravating. Granted, most of the staff here are very friendly and helpful but there are a few who just seem to hate their jobs. It's also very hard to communicate with them when 95% speak (Spanish?) and very inconsistent English. I'm not trying to be racist by saying that but it is something I factor into my hotel stays (clear communication with staff). One example of this is having my room ignored by housekeeping simply because they thought I had refused service. The only thing I had said to the housekeeping lady (I guess she was the housekeeping manager?) was that I WAS staying in the room another night, because they did not have updated notes as to who was staying, and I had extended my stay that morning. That's all I said. And somehow they heard it as 'he doesn't need service.' Eventually I had to call the front desk to ask, and they said they were done and told me what I'd "said" about not needing service. I obviously protested this fact, as it was not true. When the housekeeping lady DID contact me via phone, she had an obvious annoyed tone in her voice, as if me requesting a hotel-promised service was the worst thing I could do. On the phone she asked what I needed, and when I asked if they could make the beds, she questioned that as if I had asked a ridiculous question. When the staff showed up, they were obviously annoyed. Seeing how annoyed they were, I just asked them to replace the towels. They seemed aggravated and began chatting in a different language (please note, it was English up to this point). I'm inclined to believe they were talking about me, though I don't want to point fingers if it did not happen. They were still agitated when talking in a different language as well. It was extremely tense in the room while they were here. I did not leave the room while they were here because I did not exactly want them alone with my things while agitated. You can call me entitled if you wish, and I am not a messy person, however please remember housekeeping is a guaranteed service at this hotel and although it may have been a misunderstanding as to them not cleaning my room, they could have double checked before assuming. I had said nothing of the sort to any staff so I don't even know how they assumed that. Customers/consumers are NOT entitled if they have been denied the services that they are entitled TO, as consumers/customers. Also the front desk staff really didn't even try to fix the situation. They said the housekeeping staff was probably finished and there was nothing they could really do. However, when the staff did come, they acted as if I had committed a crime by asking politely on the phone where housekeeping had been. The other issue is safety. This hotel is really not safe for the area. The entrance doors on the sides of the building are always unlocked (you do not need a room card to access, which is really unsafe), and from other reviews I have read they sometimes give you the wrong room keys, and you walk into someone else's room (usually occupied). If I had a say, I would make the side doors accessible ONLY with room keys and only during certain hours. That way people would have to enter through the lobby, with the front desk staff having to see them, acknowledging their presence in the building. The rooms are very cozy, however. The beds are soft and comfy and the pillows are nice, and you get 4 pillows compared to the usual 2 per bed. My gripe with the bathroom is the lack of counter space, and in some rooms, lack of a tub! My room, unbeknownst to me, only had a shower. They did not tell me that some rooms did not have tubs, otherwise I would've requested a tub room. As someone who likes to take a hot bath when tired, this was disappointing. What bugs me is the lack of tubs in some rooms (without warning), lack of clear communication with staff, rudeness of some staff, lack of in-room microwave (I've stayed at $60 a night motels with microwaves in each room, while this place is $80-$90 a night without). I also caught a maintenance guy and a front desk worker complaining about a guest right in the middle of the lobby! And no, maintenance guy did not speak Spanish, so the two were conversing in English, making it much easier to hear the insults and mean things being said ("Just ignore him," "I feel like I'm his mom.") The poor guest apparently did not know how to dial out from his room phone, and they belittled him behind his back. In public. For all to hear. Nice. All in all, if you're looking for an averaged price place to crash for a night or two, the BWP New Englander is okay. Anything longer and I'd recommend you stay somewhere else. I'm hoping the hotel will reach out to me to resolve these issues and concerns as well. read more

The Good: This hotel is a great value! We paid $79 after taxes for one night. The beds are very comfortable, and the walk-in shower was really nice, too. The breakfast was a grab and go, which consisted of an apple, juice, water, cereal bar, and a small pastry (yes, lots of carbs, but thats a continental breakfast most of the time). I assume this was a lot different than what breakfast usually is, due to COVID-19. We took full advantage of the pool, which during COVID you'll have to sign up at the desk for a time slot (of about an hour or so). We picked up pizza from Polcari's restaurant, which is practically across the street, and was very good! There is also a gas station and Dunkin Donuts right next door. Overall, the room was fairly basic but perfect for a one night stay. The so-so: When we got to our room, we noticed the deadbolt did not work. We called down to notify the front desk and they offered to give us a different room, as we didn't feel comfortable with that security feature not working. We changed rooms just a few doors down the hall with no problem. There was some dust on the top of the headboard and large armoire, and a sticker left on the leg of the desk that housecleaning missed, but other than that the room was clean. Had a great night at the Best Western in Woburn MA only about 9 miles from Boston . I was in town for a business trip and needed a quick place for the night. The woman named Katherine who checked me in was super friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and fresh and the TV was state of the art! There was even a great Bar and Restaurant attached called Waxy O Connors with a live band playing. Since I was travelling alone this made the hotel even more accommodating. On Sunday Morning I was surprised by the plentiful FREE BREAKFAST, that was hot and delicious, in fact the orange juice was actually REAL, which I loved. Check out this beautiful view with the snow falling. I recommend this hotel to anyone traveling in the area, who needs a reasonable and comfortable stay. read more

Meh....I have been traveling for work a LOT lately so I feel I can review a hotel with a certain confidence and this one is truly Meh-worthy. The lobby is nicely decorated and the desk folks were nice though I heard them say "I don't know" which is a sign of weak customer service in my opinion. The pool looked ok though I was never back eaely enough to use it (closes at 10pm) My room smelled pretty bad when I finally made it to the 5th floor after an elevator ride that had me reading its inspection certificate to see if it expired back in aught 01'. The room was clean just smelled really off. The beds were surprisingly ok. The AC worked. The shower sucks though. For the cost I feel ok giving 3 stars...though it could have been better. I wouldnt run screaming if I had no where else to stay the next time I'm here but I wouldn't book here unless I HAD to. read more

The staff is very friendly, it's within a reasonable distance from both Salem and Boston, both of which we visited on our trip. Not sure why this place has such bad reviews. I booked a room here with the help of William Shatner. I was taking a last minute weekend trip to Boston, and I got an amazing deal on this place. It is about a 10-15 minute drive from Boston, which turned out to be very convenient. I was a little apprehensive on the quality of this place given the price I paid, but I definitely got more than my money's worth. The rooms are great if you just need to shower and sleep. Large flat-screen in the room if you want to curl up in bed and watch TV. Free breakfast is a major plus especially when the food is delicious. Again, I paid so little for a room here that I took full advantage of every breakfast and was always satisfied. There is an indoor pool that I probably would have taken advantage of if I was sensible enough to bring swimming trunks with me to Boston in mid-January. My only complaint is that the WiFi connection from my room was horribly slow. I tried to use my computer, but found the LTE on my phone was much faster. Seriously, the WiFi was trash, but I relied on it so little that it was not really a problem for me. I had a great stay here, and for the price, I would most definitely stay here again were I to take another trip to Boston. read more

Lots of extras (salsa and cheese for the omelets, strawberries and various other toppings for the waffles). Room was clean and comfy. Large shower and backlit mirror. So far so good. A friend put me up here for the night. I was alone and enjoyed the king sized bed. The room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had plenty of extras as far as toiletries. ..and of course the whirlpool bathtub was a nice addition. I always stay here when I travel to Boston for work. Sure, it is a little outside of the city, but after a day of work I just want to park my car and get work done. This hotel is inexpensive, and has everything I need for my work trips. The staff is friendly, and there is a restaurant/ bar on site. They also allow pets which is great. I have never had any serious issues here. The only word of warning I would give is there have been buses of teenagers there on three different occasions I stayed. Thankfully they were not on my floor, but I could see how that would make the stay miserable if you were on that floor. Like I said, I have never had any issues, and always had great experiences staying here for work. read more

I do not plan on staying at this location again. 2 front desk associates I saw wasn't very friendly or happy. Fire alarm went off at 5 AM and was not informed what had happened. Please do yourself a favor and read reviews throughly. This place does not care about your satisfaction. Broken fitness center equipments, unmaintained pools, odor and smell all across the building hallways and floors. When I asked the manager what that smell is, her respond was quote" This state allows weeds so its the customers that smoke weed while staying. Most rediculus thing I ever heard from a manager. Contruction outside which could endanger your drive in and out. Broken toilet exhaust fans. They didnt believe me until I forced them to sent out a technician. Absolute total nightmare. Hotel systems were down and we could not check in Because they, "did not know which rooms were empty", and we had to wait in the lobby for 4 hours. Hotel staff offered little to zero explanations on how they were fixing the situation for us. We always had to be the ones to get up and go ask what the status update was. The guy at the front desk even found some time to order himself dominoes while we are stranded in the lobby. We were very patient/polite the first two hours but once it started to push three we asked for the managers (Peggy) phone number which we called multiple times and then she FINALLY calls the front desk. Mind you while all this is happening, six other customers came and went and we're all told the same thing "you cannot check in." Now it's pushing 4 hours and one couple who left for two hours came back, started being extremely belligerent to the front desk and screaming and magically three rooms opened up... we went to bed around 4 AM and got out of there around 1030 and low and behold the manager, Peggy is sitting at the front desk. We ask her what the process will be to get a refund because of the situation and she said that there's nothing that she can do because we booked with a 3rd party (already opened a claim). She offered absolutely no apology to the entire situation and could only say "there's nothing I can do". We asked her why she wasn't present during the situation since she's a manager and all she could say was "I live an hour away" but meanwhile we were stranded in her lobby lobby for 4 hours. not one time was there ever an apology out of her mouth. We also paid for continental breakfast which was not present in the lobby either. I have absolutely nothing good to say about this place. UPDATE* After the manager, Peggy, told me to contact Hotels.com to get my refund, she denied us getting refunded TWICE. I now have an open claim with Corporate because the manager is claiming that she told us we given the option to cancel the hotel room which is an ABSOLUTE lie since she wasn't on site while all this was happening and told them we were only charged$160 when we paid $376 for 2 queen rooms. I came to Boston for a class trip. My teacher had gone and rented this hotel. The people who work here are supper nice but the rooms are kinda small. If it's a family of three, it would be ok. There would be times were our room keys wouldn't work so we had to run downstairs, find somebody, and ask for a another key. The pool water sometimes looks green. My husband and I spent two nights, with a group of about 20+. Despite reservations at the restaurant, we were not seated together and one waitress was not enough....service was very slow and staggered. After the first night, I reported that our shower didn't drain properly - consistently at our ankles. Never got fixed. They assured us that the shuttle to the commuter rail operated until 9pm, but when I called at 6pm (Saturday night) the woman told me That she was the only person in the building, so no return shuttle. When I asked about reimbursement for a cab, she told me she didn't have funds for that. It's a 3.7 mile trip up interstate 93, so walking back to the hotel was not an option. read more

Extremely disappointed with Best Western Woburn, MA. The hotel was something out of the popular You Tube show "Another Dirty Room". Upon arrival, the parking lot had trash, empty beer cans, tires on the ground and the interior of the hotel was no better. The lobby Carpet, the elevator, and the hallway carpet leading to the rooms looked like it hadn't been vacuumed, shampooed, or cleaned in weeks. I Rang the bell to have an unfriendly staff member check us in and acted like we were interrupting what ever she was doing previous to our arrival. We checked into the room only to find what appeared to be insecticide (white powder) all around the base board of the floor (see pics), multiple hairs on the sheets, blankets, bathroom floor, and shower. The bed skirt was also stained. The worst was when my wife and I went to sleep and we noticed the body odor smell from the bedspread. I immediately left the room to talk to the front desk. The staff member at the desk (no best western uniform) told me he was new and would try to to find me a sheet and bed spread. The sheet he found was stained and the bed spread wasn't the right size for the bed. When we checked out, the female staff member (no uniform today) who checked us in didn't even thank us for our stay, turned her head and looked the other way. I will never stay in a Best Western Hotel again. Awful experience. read more
