I'd totally give this hotel less than one star. I have stayed in many hotels, and this was by far the worst! I've paid over $170 for the night to be placed in a room where the toilet overflowed,the bathroom sink wasn't even attached to the counter,the room smelled of cigarettes, the coffee maker hade old coffee filters stuffed where the water is to be placed to eventually making the worst cup of coffee you'll Ever have. But wait there is more.... I booked my double queen room through Expedia, requesting a room on the ground floor. I had knee surgery 4 weeks ago and one of my accompaning daughters has a broken foot and is using a knee scooter. Arrived at the inn to be told there were no double queen rooms on the ground floor. And there is no elevator. The desk clerk could offer no comprmise - just a room with two double beds. Not what I booked. I truly don't think the clerk had the authority or desire to offer or find a compromise. We took the upstairs room. One daughter limped up the stairs while the other carried up her knee scooter. The bathroom had no hand towels and there was hair all over one of the beds. Then I looked at the Yelp reviews of the inn. Wished I had looked there before I booked a room here. Also, it is a Saturday night and there is a very loud band playing in the restaurant below us. The lake view is beautiful nonetheless and the staff are friendly. The room was acceptable but they only clean or give you more supplies by request; and we had a few spiders we had to share the room with- who were not subtle about their presence. Lastly, if you are booking somewhere with a free breakfast because you are looking forward to it, this is not your place. They offered watered down sunny D, water, one type of muffin, bread, cereal, potatoes, gritty watery scrambled eggs, and some kind of "French toast casserole". Not a yogurt or a meat choice in sight, with a big sign asking you not to bring breakfast to your room. That may be common- but in my opinion I should be allowed to bring back my children or mother a meal if they don't want to come to the dining room, and if we are responsible enough to order takeout to our room then we must be responsible enough to have a light breakfast as well. Had my baby shower here this past weekend and was very impressed with the space and set up! We did have two gluten free individuals and it took way too long to hunt down the person in charge so those two people could be served food. The brunch spread was nice and had a good variety. We had the space until 4pm but they started cleaning up around us starting at 3:15 so that was a little frustrating. There was a musty smell that almost resembled urine. Room was dirty we wiped down everything before we crashed. We arrived late in the evening We woke up and left did not check out breakfast as we were already uneasy. Staff was friendly. There was no evidence of bugs as previously mentioned. Has a lot of potential however cleanliness and odor control are a large need. I was refused a printed receipt stating that booking.com would provide me one. I didn't want to stay in Boston nor near Boston Logan international airport due to the higher hotel room rates, so I decided to find something else in the northern suburbs of Boston. I found a quaint little hotel here in Wakefield overlooking Lake Quannapowitt. I found the Lakeside Inn on hotels.com a few months prior to arrival. The hotel was good and the photos on the website looked reasonably good, so I went ahead and booked it. Upon arrival in May 2022, I was supposed to have stayed for one night and was out of Boston the next morning. As things would turn out, the airline cancelled my itinerary due to weather and rebooked me on the next day. Now, my 1 day stay turned out to be 2 nights. I asked the lady at the front desk if they had availability the next night and they did! I also got to keep the same room as well. Room rates was about $119 a night, if I am not mistaken, which is pretty good for the area. My room was a nice, clean, but small unit with a king bed. The comfort of the room was nice, although since it was early summer, the humidity of the day tended to permeate into the room and it got warm, but backed off when evening approached. The lady at the front desk also recommended the North Ave Diner to me for meal options on the extra day of my stay. Thank goodness they do delivery too. I also requested ice and the lady at the front desk came back with a small plastic bag of ice. She claimed due to COVID-19, they limit people from accessing the ice machine. The overall experience here at the Lakeside Inn was nice, cozy, and felt like home. Although my situation with the cancelled itinerary couldn't be helped, the lady at the front desk was nice and friendly. The Lakeside Inn sits in the northern Boston suburbs, which makes the hotel appealing. Away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Boston, but close enough to let loose when you need to and be close to nature. The hotel itself is small, with less than 100 guest rooms, although the property itself seems larger than meets the eye. Lakeside Inn sits practically next to the Lake Quannapowitt, so the ease of access to the walking paths is quite nice for fresh air and spectacular views of the lake. While the Lakeside Tavern restaurant, the restaurant inside the hotel, was closed at the time of my stay, it would have been good to dine there instead of venturing outside and finding something on my own. The Lakeside Inn is a quaint hotel property. It's not fancy, but it's not bare bones either. It's comfortable, but basic at the same time. It's just comfortable rooms at an affordable price. Hotel was not that busy, put us in a room right above the bar. They had karaoke and live bands the 4 out of the 5 nights we were there. We could hear the music right through the floor. Every night! Very loud and went on until midnight! NO housekeeping, after the 3rd night they said you have to request it. Never told us that. No hand towels, ran out of soap, shampoo etc. Said they would bring us towels never did. When I asked why they didn't put us in a quieter room as we were there so long they didn't have an answer. My major complaint is the excuse "due to Covid". No mask being wore, hotel restaurant open for business, however no coffee "due to Covid" pool closed "due to Covid" It's frustrating when the world is open for business however this is still your excuse. DO NOT RECOMMEND this inn. Let me start off by saying we were staying here for our honeymoon. I did let staff know at booking. The room was dirty and garbage was left in the room. The comforter was ripped up and had multiple blood stains (disgusting). i called desk staff was not very helpful especially Karen. There was no toilet paper and two towels for two days and one wash cloth and hand towel. I once again asked to speak to front desk manager and I was told they would let him know. I am still waiting for a call. The grounds in back are covered in goose poop I sure hope no one is having any type of event there. The room is small and outdated the two chairs in there are worn out and tattered. For the price they charge you can definitely find better accommodations. I work in the hospitality industry and we would never give a guest a room like this totally unacceptable and not sanitary. There is no elevator at all so for some one with a immobility issue it's not a good option. AC doesn't work great the window didn't seal. And asking the staff for anything seems to be a bother. The tub was dirty the shower curtain was dirty. The mattress pad doesn't even cover the bed the mattress is dirty. I really wanted to like this hotel but it was difficult. I booked a king sized room with lake view for 3 days during my daughters move to the area. At check-in, I requested a double queen at check-in so my daughter and her children could stay there until their furniture was delivered. The first night we had 2 full beds on the first floor. The room was dated. The people upstairs were so loud that we thought there was construction going on. It was Poker night so there were a lot of people coming and going. The second day, we asked to be moved to a room with 2 queen sized beds and again had 2 full beds but on the second floor. There is no elevator and no offer of help to bring luggage, diaper bags, a toddler and a baby up a flight of stairs. There were no curtains on window, only a shade that failed to keep the street lights from shining all night. The chain on the door was broken. After the second day, we checked out and went to the Sheraton. The hotel has the potential to be good but it's not there yet. read more

I had my daughter's first birthday at The Lakeside Inn. Cat, the planner contacted me quickly and professionally. She was available every time i messaged her. I was really impressed with their flexibility in terms of menu. My husband is brazilian and i wanted to add some of his cuisine to the event. Additionally, we as well as much of my family is gluten free. They were able to make brazilian food so well that my husband loved it and able to make 75% of the menu gluten free, including chicken fingers! The entire staff was so friendly and kind and attentive. And the DECORATIONS! I told them the theme, bought most of the decos and what they came up with so beautiful! They even had a connection with someone that made chocolate covered pretzels and marshmallows for favors. It was a flawless operation, a great environment, (both of their main even rooms face the Wakefield Lake with huge windows and great views so you don't feel like you are stuck in a hotel), awesome party vibes, good food, truly an awesome experience! I can't wait to have another occasion to celebrate so that I can work with them again! read more

True to some of the other negative reviews on here, I would have to say that this is the most uncleanly hotel I have ever stayed in. I stayed here for a night. First the hotel messed up my reservation - I requested a king, they gave me a double. I'm not overly picky as long as I have a bed, so I was fine with it. The room however was another story. Upon check-in, I found a wad of chewing gum stuck to the nightstand. The drinking glasses looked gross and looked like they had barely been washed. Scuff marks on the walls everywhere. More like the Fakeside Inn. Actually more like the Lakeside Out, than Lakeside Inn, because getting out is more satisfying than getting in. I'm sure it's generally a nice hotel, but not when we went there. Here's the thing. We paid quite a lot for this room, more than we usually pay, because we wanted a fancy place by a lake. The night manager was really not friendly at all and acted like we were the biggest inconvenience in his awesome life. He would not give us a lakeview room so we got a parking lot view room with a bunch of nasty garbage cans outside our window. There were tons of free rooms so I think he was just being an a**. What is worse is that it was the longest walk ever to the room. She is in sexy stilettos and I am carrying all the stuff and it was 10 minutes of torture getting all our bags to the room. So not welcome. One of the worst designed hotels ever. No good entrance for rooms down at the end and the guy obviously wouldn't help us. Along the way we nearly tripped over all sorts of building supplies and plastic covers because they were renovating half the hotel and it smelled of chemicals. We had to get past all that to get to our room. A lot of the hallways smelled old and musty, not surprising they're renovating. Water for the shower was lukewarm. The morning experience was better. The construction guys were hitting on my girl which she really appreciates (she's a very unusual girl). We used the gym which was pretty basic and not great, but at least they do have a gym. The girl downstairs at the counter was way nicer than the guy had been the night before. But the damage was done. Takes a lot for me to give 2 stars to a place but if you're going to have such a difficult experience for guests, lower the prices until the work is done or give them nicer rooms to make up for it. We interacted with three different desk clerks and they were all nice and helpful. Unfortunately, when you go into the actual room you're staying in...not as nice as the front of the house. Really, it looks like you're in two different hotels. My husband and I stayed in a room with a king bed, and I'm pretty sure they took the bulkiest furniture they could find and jammed it into a small space. There was hardly any walking room! The shower had quite a bit of black mold around the caulking and the sink didn't drain- it took hours after brushing teeth to drain! My BF and I just checked in to Lakeside Inn. Karen (actual name) was very Friendly, professional, and helpful. We asked if early checkin was available and for the lakeview it wasn't but for lot view it is, she gave us the choice. We decided to take the lot because view isnt important to us. The AC in the room was already running . We are here in a heat wave so that was nice. The room is clean the sheets are clean, because of Covid I brought my own disinfectant and hit the surfaces. The building is old, the room in old, however the price for it is right on. Did you ever watch Schitts Creek and that motel?? Same idea. Not fancy, nothing crazy, its a place to sleep. Overall I felt like this hotel was pretty good. The beds were comfortable, the air conditioning was strong and it has reasonable prices. We paid $105 a night for a double queen and it was very convenient to Boston and Salem as well as the airport. The staff is very nice and the lady who I worked with over the phone was also very nice. When I called to confirm my reservation they were helpful and polite. It is a little older but we didn't have any problems. The only issue I would say is that you can't even get a morning coffee there and they do not make up your rooms each day. You don't even get fresh towels. However we were only there for three days and we made it work. That would be my recommendation to the owner should they read this is that you provide at least coffee for people in the morning and offer fresh towels each day. This place is a two story with no elevator. You have to carry all your luggage up two flight of stairs. We booked for two people in the room and they only gave us two towelS. We dare to ask for more and they said no. Two per room. We had to turn in the dirty towels in order to get clean towels. The place is no smoking but our room smelled like weed. The website shows complimentary breakfast but they said it was cancelled after covid. The bathroom door was a barn style door that would derail. The bar is close... they advertise karaoke on website! The first night there was a couple fighting next room. Needless to say we had a sleepless night. One bed had a spreadsheet with a whole on it. The fridge was nasty! And it also froze all of our food. If I could give zero stars I would. All of the reviews for this place said it was dirty but I only needed to stay one night. It was affordable and in a nice area in Wakefield. I booked the room through booking.com a month in advance and thought nothing of it. On the day of my reservation I called and asked how early I could check in. The person who answered the phone didn't know and said they would check. A few minutes later a woman named Cat spoke to me on the phone in a very rude tone telling me she didn't want anyone from my town staying there that night and that all of our rooms were cancelled. As shocked as I was, I made reservations elsewhere and went on with my night. Later that night I was charged over a hundred dollars for the room that they had cancelled. I called the hotel upset and told them that I needed a refund but no one there seemed to have any knowledge of these rooms being cancelled. I continued to call every day for a week asking to speak to a manager or the woman who had cancelled my room. No manager was ever available and no matter how many times I left my name and number, I was never called back. The terrible customer service, lack of informed employees, and consistently rude tones truly made my experience miserable. It seemed as though I had been scammed and would never received my money for a room that I did not stay in. After threatening to hire a lawyer, the money miraculously appeared in my account with a call from a manager who said quickly that they were sorry and there was no need for further action. Good luck to anyone who plans to stay there it is a terrible terrible place and not worth your time or money. Find other hotels. read more

This inn used to be really great, being cheaper than most and really well situated, being near Boston. The breakfast used to be really good also, but it's not offered anymore. However the inn didn't age really well. First the parking lot is in an awful state, so be careful with your car. Our room was in really bad shape: the bath tub was rusty, the AC noisy and there was a blind in the window, but no drapes, so the sunlight was entering the room by the side in the morning, waking us up. The ice machine wasn't working. And there was only one set of towel in the room for two queen beds. Note that there is no service in the room, nobody come to make the beds and empty the trash. The worst part for us pas the problems with the door. On the second day of our stay, we realised that the door of the room wasn't locking at all. We were assured that it would be fixes first thing in the morning, but when we arrived the following evening, the door was still unlocked. We were lucky that nothing was stolen. I tried to talk with a manager to request a discount and was told they would contact me during the week, but they never did. I tried to contact them through Expedia and they didn't care to offer anything. Lately I tried to contact them directly and once again they assured me they would call me back, but 2 weeks later I still didn't hear for them. This hotel and the management clearly didn't care for their clients and the quality of their installation, so avoid this place. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. The room was so dirty it had to be a health code violation. Beds and pillows were stained yellow. The sheet had cigarette burns on it. Stains on the walls and carpets. The bath tub was black and the towel rack was in pieces. The smell was like someone chained smoked 100 packs. We could barely breathe. Absolutely disgusting! I tried to get a new room and Anna at the desk was nothing but rude. This is definitely a place for you to stay if you want to be far away from reality, and off the grid for a bit. The amenities are okay. They have a great location for people who just want to enjoy the scenery and relax. Breakfast was standard motel fare, no bells or whistles. The fact that they have a tavern downstairs makes the stay a little more worth it because it's location is quite a distance from eateries. You need a car to get around here. The Lakeside Inn would do GREAT if they had a shuttle service that took people to various places within a certain radius. They could even charge you to pick up and drop off at the airport, that would definitely set them apart from the others in the area. They also need to become more handicap accessible for those patrons coming with disabilities and need for access to all apart of the facility. It's not useful for ALL patrons and will deter these patrons from coming and fully enjoying themselves. I would stay here again, but only if they made those small changes. read more

Booked 6 nights - cancelled with 24 hours notice last two nights (they still charged me) did not notify me that I would be charged until 4 days later. Had they told me I could have just stayed overnight those 2 nights. Spiders - little black and yellow striped spiders through out the room. Very active little things. I find spiders creepy and do not like them. Spider webs in the shower and many large ones around the large cracks around the window where they come out of. Seem more active at night. We had a baby shower in the Lakeview room and couldn't have picked a better place. We can't thank Cheryl Redding enough (the Catering and Function Sales Manager)! She was very responsive from the first email exchange to the last day, ensuring all plans were executed perfectly. Cheryl and the chef even made accommodations for vegetarian food for our guests which was great. The views and layout of the room are perfect to host a party! read more

Really disappointed after staying here. There was a band blasting music below our room until after 11pm so loudly the floor was shaking. The room was absolutely filthy. Mildew on the doors.. cocoons on the door jams leftover from insects. So many areas with dirt, unrepaired damage, residue from who knows what. I would never stay here and if you have young children this is not a place to stay on a weekend - live music in the bar area will prevent anyone in nearby rooms from sleeping. read more

Now I don't normally rate hotels bad, not even mediocre as I look into the better side of things. The one star is because of the Lakeside setting, other than that I would give this place negative on all accounts, the interior, the makeout of the hotel, staff, comfort and prejudice. We stayed for Halloween so I expected patrons to be somewhat rowdy and unruly, they have us a 2nd floor room when I requested a first level room. They did mention the room was not draining so I said ok. They had no elevators, had to carry 3 suitcases, my camera bag and other stuff up the room at the farthest end. The tub wasn't draining well either on our room. Carpet was feeling mucky and dirty. The next day, I asked for towels, they said they can't give me any unless I bring the old ones and turn it in. While doing so, I witnessed the front desk arguing with a hotel guest that was informing her that he is expecting an international call, gave her the name and approval to transfer to the room. The desk agent said, I can't do that due to privacy, they have to tell me your name and your room number. The guest argued that as he was just visiting in town, he does not have a local number and was only able to give his friend the hotel information before he left. Agent still adamantly argued she cannot and then switched to talking to me rather than helping him, went inside and brought me my towels. The guy was so frustrated, he ended up leaving defeated. That front desk lady working mornings on Nov 1, was by far exude of rudeness, and really shouldn't be in the hospitality business. Place needs an overhaul and should have an elevator. Even the housekeeping staff were mean and wary of the guests and was getting verbally disciplined by that desk agent. Bad experience all around. read more
