This Best Western is in a superb location. You can see the Morro bay and rock from some of the rooms. It is a 7-10 minute walk to the Embarcadero and many good restaurants. It is about a 15-18 minute easy walk to the Morro rock/ beach. The rooms are nice though a little dated. There is an upper outdoor lounge with great views of the Bay and Rock, the free breakfast is quite good. If you want to stay in a great location in Morro Bay and not break the bank this is the place for you. read more

Terrible, Don't book here! started with a hostile female front desk host & the "full breakfast" was cereal, one mini waffle maker, one small very slow coffee maker in a very tight lobby-dining room. The host was a mature female who gave my husband & me a gtfo look when we entered. My husband & I went to the desk, saw no customers. I said, "Hello, we are checking in", She snapped in a hostile tone, "Sit down over there, I'll let you know when I can help you, I'm helping someone else" We looked at each other . We sat, after 10 minutes she said, "Now, how can I help you". I said "we're checking in", she asked for DL, I handed her mine, she stared at CDL, stared at me too long, stared back at CDL, stared at me, said, "hmm', you've sure changed, in a biting tone staring at me. She went out of her way to be hostile. We were in a low-key mood because we just came from the hospice home with my dying father-in-law so we didn't react to her darts. It was a harsh check-in, we were stunned by her behavior. I didn't respond to her nasty temper. Room is sparse, towels are very thin. Lori was our host. She was very accommodating. She wished it wasn't a busy Water Polo competition weekend, or she would've upgraded our room for our anniversary. Thanks for trying! Nonetheless, per our picture, we got the ADA compliant bathroom. Did they "know" I had sciatica developing?! The rooms are insulated enough. Stays cool with their AC unit. And the bed is comfortable enough. The biggest win is that they are just one block up the hill from Morro Bay AND they have a 2nd floor deck to check out the bay view, watch the sunrise, the sunset, and the developing marine layer. I rarely post reviews, but I had to create this one for Best Western Tradewinds Morro Bay. Last December 2025, I called and made reservations for September 2026. The lady I spoke to at Tradewinds created a reservation that contained the wrong check-out date. I called her back the same day I made the reservation and asked her to cancel the incorrect reservation she made and I let her know that I created the correct one through the Best Western website. I was looking at my recent credit card statement and noticed that I was charged in May 2026, for two different amounts that totaled $1,235.44. I never made a reservation for May. I called Tradewinds on 6/22/26 and spoke to a rude mature woman who wouldn't let me speak, but talked over me, and only asked me questions. Her tone was that of someone that felt bothered by my call. When I asked for her name, she hung up on me. Long story short, I had to call Best Western corporate for assistance to credit my card for reservation charges I never made. It was during my call to corporate that I learned that the gal from Tradewinds never cancelled her incorrect reservation. The representative had to cancel the incorrect reservation. The Best Western corporate office encouraged me to file a complaint with the Best Western Customer Relations Department, which I did. The corporate staff member couldn't assist me with the charges made to my credit card because they couldn't find a reservation for May. I let the customer relations representative know that others had complained on Yelp about a rude, mature female staff member. After filing a dispute with my credit card company for the incorrect charges that Tradewinds made, I called Tradewinds and tried resolving this matter with June, the Tradewinds manager. Unfortunately, she never resolved the issue but stated that they have a high turnover of staff. Based on my documentation, my credit card company refunded me for the two incorrect charges Tradewinds made. I WILL NEVER STAY AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. I did cancel my September 2026 reservation. If you want incorrect reservations, false credit card charges, rude and condescending behavior then this is the place for you. I would stay somewhere else. read more

Hotel is dirty!! Do NOT stay here!! The room smelled, the floor was gross. The a/c unit was super loud. The walls are very thin, we heard the neighboring room all night! The fridge made a weird noise all night, we had to unplug it. The nightstands had greasy residue on it, so gross. There was a black hair on my "clean" washcloth. I am a redhead. So gross. The location is great, close to the north end of the Embarcadero and the Morro Rock. Many rooms have a view that includes the Rock. Rooms have been updated in the last few years and are comfortable and inviting. Prices include continental breakfast which features eggs, sausage, yogurt, and waffle offerings. From the time we arrived at the property we were treated with a warm smile and a very helpful lady behind the front desk by the name of June. She got us checked into our room and even ran upstairs to double-check that the keys worked, offered some good local recommendations on food and my daughter and me were off to our room. Yes the breakfast area is small but this is not a big property, however the food was fresh and hot checked on multiple times by June throughout running the front desk as well. On the second day she had a new employee being trained by the name of Cynthia both of them extremely nice and pleasant the way June multitask and balanced training a new employee welcoming new guest and still maintaining the breakfast area was quite impressive. Overall great experience, VERY hard working staff & if anything was needed you just had to ask. Very close to the waterfront just a quick walk down the hill and the Beautiful town of Morro Bay is at your fingertips. Can't wait to return read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Best Western Tradewinds was disappointing. We booked a stay for April 4-6 and extended it by one night at the front desk, paying in full. However, when we returned late on April 6 around 11:30 PM, our room keys no longer worked. The front desk was closed, and the after-hours number just rang through with no answer. We were locked out of our room with no way to reach anyone for help and had to find last-minute accommodations elsewhere. The next morning, staff confirmed we had paid for the extra night, but refused to offer a refund--even though we never accessed the room. I've opened a support ticket with Best Western corporate (CR1010126), but I still haven't received a resolution. The location is nice and the room was fine, but the lack of after-hours support and unwillingness to make the situation right left a bad impression. I hope management improves communication and customer service moving forward. read more

We used to go here a couple times a year. Went July 2025 and different management. Not good. Room not ready and then they put us downstairs, but paperwork showed an upstairs room. This caused them confusion later on as they were calling to see if we were checking out when we were staying for 3 days. Then they were knocking on our door about same issues. A prior occupant had got tar in tub and they couldn't get it out. Things just not as well run. read more

We just stayed for 2 nights. The staff was very nice, we saw 3 different employees on the course of our stay. It is a small hotel, so the parking lot is a little tight but not unmanageable. The room was clean. Not great lighting in the bathroom and the fan in there was very loud. Towels were provided but no washcloths. There are a few rooms with a view of the back of a building so if that is important I would check that on their website. They do have others. Room had a ceiling fan and the ac worked well. The breakfast was decent, considering how small the hotel is. They also have a nice rooftop area with a great view of Morro Rock. Quiet area, which was nice at night. We came back late one night and there was good lighting in the parking lot and also by each door. read more

A complete and utter disappointment! I don't even know where to start. Don't stay here is my recommendation. The pictures do this place much more justice than reality. Room wasn't even ready even at check-in time. Even with room ready late, it was still not clean, we noticed sticky gross residue on the nightstands when we arrived, lacked complete set of towels/supplies that hotels should have, even missing pillows. Some odd water stains in the bathroom ceiling were also noticed. We were afraid of walking around without shoes as the cleanliness was questionable, we felt the need to do a room sweep to see if there were roaches or bedbugs, luckily there were none that we noticed. The room smelled of mildew and the HVAC was extremely noisy, and made odd sounds. Speaking of sounds, there was an odd rattling/buzzing sound we could not first locate, then realized it was the mini fridge. The walls are super thin and lack privacy, we could hear the conversations of the neighbors, as well as what they were watching on TV. This went on into the night and we were forced to put in the unusually loud HVAC fan to drown out the noise from the other guests. We could hear the people above walk around, and even when they flushed the toilet. We did not get any sleep and ended up eating our losses and left before 5am it was so terrible. They apparently offer free breakfast, but if the room was not clean can you imagine their food prep area? Did not want to risk getting sick so we had no plans to eat there. The only thing this place has going for it is the location, other than that, it is merely a place to stay, but for the prices it is basically an over-priced Motel 6, falls short of the Best Western name. Stay somewhere else. Contacted management and they don't care, suppose they are like slum lords collecting money and do nothing else. read more

Door handle came off in my hand. Front desk assured us that it was not a security issue & they would have it fixed. They had no other room to move us to, so we were stuck with it. It was still broken when we left for dinner. No clue when (if?) it will be fixed. UPDATE: It's now 3:30 pm the next day. Nothing has changed, no repair has been done. Breakfast this morning was a mess. Out of hot food, coffee, & orange juice 15 minutes after it started, only 8 seats (total) in the breakfast area, only one person to handle front desk, food, & phones. read more

Staff was very friendly .. room was clean, but... it wasn't ready when we arrived (around 7:45pm). Something about a missing house keeper... so we went to dinner (at Dockside 2- fabulous restaurant/experience). We settled into our room a couple hours later, had a fabulous rest of the stay. I had explained to her what had happened to us the previous nite at one of the hotels we had stayed in, so she made our stay even better. The room was nice, comfy, & clean. They have a nice sun deck on property which is a great place to enjoy a glass of wine and watch the sunset. A very nice premium continental breakfast is provided by the hotel. I have stayed at this Best Western more than a few times, and my stay has been good. The rooms are properly maintained, and clean. I wish there were some USB ports in the room, but just a wish. The staff are always polite and helpful, accommodating when possible. The parking lot is a little small, but manageable. If you're a Tesla owner they have a single charging station on-site. Finally having stayed at many Best Westerns across multiple states this location is one of the best locations. read more

Fox News was blaring on the TV in the lobby which was the opposite of a welcoming experience. Mattress was old and sunk in the middle. it was on top of a tin box so anytime we moved it made an alarming crinkling sound. This was a horrible experience. The general manager and owner is a dishonest person name Laura. First, they went into my room without my permission after I called from work to inform her that my room was cold , the water didn't get hot enough for a shower and the heater ran loudly all night trying to reach 77 degrees. I sleep in socks my feet were so cold. Her maintenance man told her the water did not get hot. She acted like she didn't hear him. She told me my room was cold because I probably had the fan on all night. What she didn't know is that I have sinus issues so fans are never on in my presence unless its 85 degrees plus. Secondly she charged me for 2 nights and I stayed only 1 night. She wanted me to move downstairs to another room which I declined and I left work and took my co-worker with me because I knew she was going to try some bullshit. Which she did. She had informed her staff to lie and tell me the fan was on when I knew it wasn't ,then the staff member tried to argue my back and forth before she decided she felt intimidated. My co-worker called her on her shit and she shut up. But this miserable greedy owner decided that she deserved to be paid for 2 days instead on the 1 day and I checked out around 12 pm. I had to come home from work to deal with money hungry liars that that believe black people owe them something. I am so grateful my parents taught me the importance of integrity. read more

We unfortunately made a mistake on our dates and couldn't receive a refund, which was understandable, however the short tempered rude manager that basically said "too bad" is inexcusable for guests who stay multiple times per year. I was really impressed by this hotel. It's nothing fancy, but the owners are very friendly and accommodating. The rooms, although small, were comfortable and clean. And 1 block to the embarcadero boardwalk with views of Morro Rock and harbor. Check in was simple. There's hand sanitizer at the entrance. Coffee avaliable all day. Grab and go breakfast, consisting of simple packaged Danish, fresh fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, apple sauce, fruit cups, a variety of breakfast snack bars, apple and orange juice, hot chocolate and coffee. I grabbed that for the day and we went next door for breakfast one day and the second day to the little French bakery at the bottom of the hill by the harbor. Both delicious! Bonus for this property is they have a Tesla charger. 42 kw per hour with a2 hour complimentary charge per day. I would 100%stay here again! Room was under$100 for a double a night in February 2020 and worth every penny. Great location! read more

If the old adage of location, location, location is your primary deciding factor in lodging it gets 4.6 stars. It's a block from the water and Morro Rock filled the view from our room. That was pretty great. Probably even better on the second floor. The main touristy stretch of the bay front is a quick walk and the rock is maybe 20 minutes at a strolling pace. That said, if water pressure in the shower is of ANY importance, it gets 0.3 stars to match the 0.3 bar of pressure. And that's generous. It's not much more than a dribble. It sucked. And the shampoo dispenser was empty. The bed was decent. Literally unremarkable but here we are talking about it, so... yeah. But the overall quality of the place was decent and considering what some beach town hotels cost for a block from the water it's fine. Not great, but fine. read more

Diane and I had a very nice three-day stay at the Tradewinds in Morro Bay. Within easy walking distance of the Embarcadero one block below, and close to just about all shops and restaurants in Morro Bay, this motel was perfectly situated. Our king bed room was spacious and included good air conditioning, a refrigerator, a microwave, a large flat screen TV, and a partial view of Morro Rock. When not overdosing on Clam Chowder, saltwater taffy, seafood, chocolate treats, or store shopping, on two occasions I enjoyed easing my muscles while soaking by myself for 30 minutes in the whirlpool spa above the motel overlooking Morro Rock. The flush lever to our toilet came undone at one point, and the repairman arrived within one minute of my reporting of this problem, to totally fix the mechanism within 5 minutes. That was the only difficulty we encountered while staying here. Staff members at the front desk and maids were all friendly and helpful, and the ice machine was always fully stocked. When we next return to Morro Bay, we definitely plan to stay here again. read more

I was quite pleased with my stay at this motel on my recent visit to Morro Bay. The motel was clean, well maintained and the staff in the office were courteous and pleasant. All the rooms have exterior entrances, which I think is a nice way to go during the pandemic. They have a "grab and go" breakfast in the morning which is included with the price of the room. My only criticism of the place is that I thought the parking lot was somewhat tight and so it might be difficult for you to maneuver your car around when the lot is full. There was also some street parking right next to the motel, so you can park there as well if you wish. I thought it was nice to park your car within such a short distance of the room, and then not have to deal with any hallways or elevators. Finally, the motel is very centrally located in town. There are lots of nice restaurants within short walking distance. read more
