    Avila Beach lighthouse suites
    Julie D.

I graduated from Cal Poly and I love visiting Avila Beach. It's been a tradition for 30 years. Staying at the Avila lighthouse suites always makes the trip seems so magical. Our visit this time we were coordinating with Brittany from the front desk. She's so amazing and efficient. Gave us the best customer service, we are so grateful to her for everything she did for us. We will definitely be back. Anybody thinking about staying here? It's right across from the beach, the staff is amazing, the rooms are always clean. And there are wonderful restaurants and shops and walking distance. And to add their beds are super soft and I love the amenities so I don't have to bring my shampoo and conditioner and lotion. Just another addition to make a trip easier.

I've been to the Avila Lighthouse Suites twice now, and had nothing but amazing experiences. The rooms are always clean, smell good, and have great amenities. We always book an "ocean front" room, and it's just incredible to be able to open the doors, sit on the deck, and just let the ocean breeze blow in. They have a nice simple breakfast in the mornings that we've enjoyed, and it's so nice to be close to other restaurants, shops, and steps away from the beach. The service is always great and everyone at the front desk is very helpful. I can't wait to stay here again!

Best customer service ever! Nicole at the front desk was SO amazing and helpful! As we're all of front desk staff! She got us a room last minute and made check in so easy and enjoyable. We had to change rooms on day two and they made that so easy and took such good care of us. They even moved all of our things while we went and got food waiting for our next room to be ready. Both rooms were amazing and beautiful with a view of the ocean. They had everything we needed wine opener, robes, actual coffee cups. All of the housekeeping staff was so hard working and professional. Make sure to tip them. Their job is so important! Just a great little 2 day vacation! The grounds and rooms are some of the cleanest I have ever seen. Definitely going back every chance we get!!

    Beach view from our room.

Perfect for our 27th anniversary! E-bikes available on sight for a 9 mile ride around Avila and the Bob Jones Trail, and free breakfast. We wish we would have know. About this when our kids were little. Poll, across the street from the beach, games, warm cookies, and lots more. Elaine was the best in the lobby!

Park view room top floor, still get a ocean view

We love going to Avila beach ! This hotel as always been on our bucket list to stay at. The price here can be high, so for us I knew off season would be the best price for us. We were lucky to be able to stay twice in the last 4 months. Back in October 2023 I had found a deal on Expedia and we had a good stay $226 a night . Lucky for us we got an email from lighthouse talking about a great deal that started this month of 40%off rooms! Yay!! So of course I had to check it out. First off more about the hotel, it offers free breakfast which is better than the pismo location in my opinion (eggs, a breakfast meat, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, bagels and more) . The pool and hot tube are right in front of the beach and are good sizes. Both times we had park view rooms and I could still see the ocean. They have corn hole, big checkers, ping pong, and a little putting green. The lobby is nice and has a few little snacks and drinks you can buy. Also everyday they have fresh cookies I. The lobby , that was my kid's favorite part was walking down there to see what cookie was there that day. Now back to our last stay, we got a great deal with taxes it was like $124 a night for a king size bed that has a living room with a queen pull out couch and a park view. We were so excited but towards then end of booking it says by the way we have a new resort few of $45 a day(and this is taxed to so it's more like $50 a day). I had got such a great price on the room I was like that's fine, cause I mean the property is a cross the street from the beach , right next to the three of the main restaurants in town and you get breakfast plus last I came parking is free. When we got to the hotel to check in we told what the resort fee included which was 8 am yoga on the beach (since there is no gym),free checkout of beach equipment (chairs, balls, toys), free one hour bike rental for two , a bottle of wine and 10% off at the local restaurants and I think a few more things. Even though I thought it was high at first , hearing all the thing's included I was fine with it. But then I find out they are now also charging for parking! Now it's only $15 a night but I mean come on, why can't the resort fee cover parking. All in all the rooms are spacious and clean. We love the location of this hotel, it's our favorite part.

I wouldn't say this was beach front view

I'm so disappointed in my first and last stay at the lighthouse Inn. I would say that the room was comfortable and the beds were wonderful, but I paid extra for beachfront for my room to face a very loud playground. On top of that I couldn't really shut the door because the AC didn't work. None of the key cards worked for the gates, so we were constantly having to walk around and the elevators were always stalling. The staff was really kind, but overall, I do not see myself returning..

    Nice view

Nice location. Lovely view. But check prices! I booked a while back. More than twice the amount than they are asking tonight. Haven't gone to sleep yet to know how the bed is but it's nice and roomy with it being a suite. Sweet young man at the front desk and we passed a couple of employees who were welcoming in their greeting. Nicer than the employees at the Marriott in Napa last week.

First of all, FIVE STAR rating on service, general condition of the property, and cleanliness. All was GREAT. BUT, if you want to reserve an "oceanfront" property, it is NOT oceanfront, but rather a parking lot, which should be made clear when you make your reservation. Even though we didn't talk a picture while staying there, image this image -- taken by another guest of the 2nd floor -- on the lower floor -- you are right up against the public parking area, including all the pedestrians gawking in your balcony and person. Trust me, this hotel has A LOT to offer, but why they don't accurately describe or post representative pictures of the bottom floor "oceanfront" room is beyond me. That's why we gave them 3 stars. :)

This photo has terrible lighting, the room was really pretty and bright in person

I was SO SURPRISED at how amazingly, immaculately, CLEAN our room was. We walked in and immediately smelled the cleanliness of the room. Even could smell the clean sheets/towels. Everyone knows how 99.9% of all hotels don't really clean their sheets. These guys do. And I've NEVER BEEN to a hotel that close to the ocean that didn't have a musty smell due to the sea air, this one didn't have it one bit! The rooms are beautiful, our balcony view was awesome, the complimentary breakfast had so many options, bed was comfortable, and the staff members seemed happy (i feel like that kind of thing is lacking these days). We had the best anniversary getaway, mostly thanks to this beautiful place.

    Great pool!

During the 10 minutes it took me to check in, I witnessed a woman come in at 4 PM and be told her room would not be ready until 5 PM no apology given just told "housekeeping has a lot of rooms to clean." I also witnessed a man come in visibly frustrated, saying that maintenance had knocked and requested entry multiple times when he had a do not disturb sign on the door. Another guest came in and was requesting sheets because the sheets that had been left for the pullout couch were not the right size and she had called the evening before multiple times and nobody ever brought her a sheet. Keep in mind those are three instances that happened just while I was standing there for check-in. I can only imagine the other issues that were had. Personally, I called multiple times for pool towels and other towels and was told that the housekeeper was busy and she'd be there with they could. I got the stuff I needed only half of the time. I asked for our trash cans to be emptied, and only half of the trash cans in the room were emptied. The door to our room would not open unless you gave it a good kick or threw your shoulder into it, which is absolutely ridiculous. Empty Vending machines, subpar service to say the least. No one who worked there was incredibly welcoming, and overall they claimed to be short staffed, but we had issues and throughout our entire stay. Incredibly uncomfortable couch bed too. This stay was absolutely horrendous and disappointing.

As a last-ditch effort, we stopped at Dolphin Bay around 2 AM hoping for a room. Jacob at the front desk completely turned our night around. He jumped into action, got us settled quickly, and went above and beyond to take care of us despite our unexpected arrival. His level of service was incredible. We woke up the next morning to a stunning ocean view and realized we had stumbled into something special. What started as one of the worst travel experiences quickly became one of the best. The one-bedroom suite was incredibly spacious, the food was delicious both at the restaurant and through in-room dining (we tried both), and everything arrived quickly without long wait times. The valet team handled everything with care and urgency, and every employee we encountered was attentive and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. What stood out most was the General Manager, Erica. She was everywhere -- helping at the front desk, assisting guests, in the restaurant, at the pool, even parking cars -- all with a smile on her face. That kind of leadership is rare, and it clearly shows in the culture of the entire staff. Even though the property was fully booked during our stay, it never once felt crowded or chaotic, and the staff never seemed behind or overwhelmed -- which says a lot about how well this place is run. This trip was especially meaningful for us because it was one of the rare times we've traveled without our six kids -- and the entire time we were there, we kept saying how we can't wait to come back with them and make this our new family vacation spot. We're beyond grateful for this experience and will absolutely be back.

Unfortunately, the service did not match the price point. At nearly $600 per night, I expected a much higher level of hospitality. Room service took over two hours to arrive, despite placing the order an hour in advance specifically to avoid delays. To their credit, the staff comped the meal, which was a gracious gesture, but I would have preferred receiving the food on time. What was most disappointing was the complete lack of personalized service. For a resort charging premium rates, I expected touches such as evening turndown service, robes and slippers prepared by the bed, or other details that make a luxury stay feel special. None of that was offered. At $600 per night. I would've rather spent my money at The Four Seasons four seasons or the Peninsula hotel. At least at those premium hotels we actually get the service we pay for. The check-in experience was also unpleasant. The front desk staff came across as overly rigid and unwelcoming, which set the wrong tone from the start. This was my second time giving this resort a chance, and unfortunately, I regret doing so. We stayed in a first-floor ocean view room since we had a service animal, and the room size was great. The grounds are well-kept, there's convenient beach access, and I loved that they have an adults-only hot tub--that was a nice touch. The person who checked us in was also very kind and welcoming, which set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill that night. Our upstairs neighbors were stomping loudly for hours. Around 8 PM, I called the front desk to let them know, and I was told they would reach out to the room--but nothing changed. By 10 PM, the noise was still going, so I called again. This time, instead of resolving the issue, I felt like we were being questioned. We were told the guests upstairs said they were already in bed, which didn't line up with what we were clearly hearing. The situation was frustrating enough that I tried to get their attention by tapping on the ceiling, which then got turned back on us as a complaint. When we asked about switching rooms, we were told the hotel was sold out and we'd have to wait until the next day--which I understand--but the way it was handled by the manager was disappointing. There was no apology, no empathy, and the tone came off dismissive and rude, which made the situation worse. I really wanted to love this place because the location and property are great, but customer service matters, especially when issues come up. Because of that experience, I'd think twice about staying here again.
