Hi, I'm Caleb Stewart. I originally had Wavelight Optimized LASIK with Dr. Andrew E. Holzman at TLC Rockville's location on August 6th, 2021. Initially, I had a great experience. Every staff member was sweet and I was confident that the surgery would go well. Unfortunately, there were a few red flags that I will list below. 1. The technicians there claimed that my prescription was stable when it wasn't and my vision quickly regressed after a year. Furthermore, I had prior dry eye disease and the technicians lied and stated that it wouldn't be an issue...now I have a severe case years out. 2. I didn't get to meet with my surgeon to discuss risk of complications, if I'm a true candidate or not etc. 3. The staff didn't explain other alternatives such as ICL and didn't give a solid recommendation on what path to take. If I was told to wait until my mid 20s I probably would've had a better outcome and less chance of regression. 4. TLC decided to change the location of the surgery from Tyson's Corner to Rockville last minute also modifying the laser as well which could have had an effect on my overall outcome. Suddenly, when I developed all these complications TLC offered little to no help in contrast to how I was assisted pre-op. I now have day-time starbursts, haloes and severe dry eye which induces irregular astigmatism...causing awful ghosting that can only be possibly fixed through scleral lenses or extensive dry eye treatment. I've had to quit many of my hobbies and it made my quality of life way worse for a while. They only offered "enhancement" surgeries to improve my vision which are not FDA approved and make complications worse for many patients. I'm still not comfortable with my vision at 23, a little over two years out and feel like I got scammed and betrayed by the center. They also didn't give me a refund as well despite my efforts to be polite and courteous about the situation. What makes the situation worse is that I had to go out of my way to see my original surgeon since he opened up his own company just to see what occurred. I was given pupil-shrinking drops and was shrugged off and told that everything was in my head, it was very disheartening. I've had to take so much initiative seeing all kinds of specialists just to get help, it's very draining for a young man to go through and I'm thoroughly disappointed with my experience here. I'll attach some photos below of my prescription before and after and various photos of symptoms that I suffer with to this day. This surgery has ruined my early 20s due to the complications that I face daily. I'm stuck with poor vision that does not hold a candle to how it was before surgery and I am stuck with fluctuating ghosting vision. The center asked that I provide a $200 payment to sign up for a "lifetime plan" to get a second surgery which is not FDA approved. They are a joke. The center only has one line of communication (patient care manager team) and have no ounce of empathy and compassion in their bodies whatsoever. If you develop complications and issues, expect to be on your own and not get any assistance at all from TLC. Whenever I would reach out for genuine help and the ability to obtain a refund or at least some compensation they couldn't do anything. It's hilarious because whenever I mention making a payment towards my surgery they are enthusiastic and respond quickly but other than that, crickets. Please do not get refractive surgery if it's not needed, my life is now ruined thanks to these people. I can't enjoy my hobbies 100% like I used to or start to drive. This place is full of a bunch of thieves and con men. I got lasik performed by them and now years later have blurry vision again and need a touch up, only to find out my branch office I had my surgery in went bankrupt and the new company didn't acquire this particular office. He goes on to say we will not stand behind your surgery and the lifetime commitment you paid for. I asked if they could at least give me a discount seeing it's not my fault they went bankrupt and my lifetime touch up guarantee went down the toilet. He said nope, sorry. Are you joking right now. I'm going too get the doctors names and front desk ladies names that I worked with later but for right now... I just want everyone to know they are immaculate at their craft. I trust and recommend this place 100%. Even one is kind and transparent about the process. At first I was sure if I could get it because the price was so high. But their in house e financing made a world of difference. I love this place and thank God for it everyday. My mail results are a 20/15 Meaning my eyes are better than a 20/20. You can beat that... especially when I was coming from two very strong prescribe and different prescriptions in each eye. I'm saving money on the long run and much better for my health because I'm not constantly leaving my contacts in. I really appreciate this place and the staff there. I don't leave 5 stars unless a place REALLY deserves it. Don't listen to the other reviews. Yes sometimes it can be a little difficult to get a specific office on the phone. But there's ALWAYS someone available to send them a message and talk to you. Plus they're open on the weekends so you can always stop by. There's nothing you need to worry about. They're always there. I think people who complain about calling are really needy and making it seem like the end of the world if they don't get what they want at that exact moment (over the phone). On the recommendation of a co-worker, I scheduled a consultation with TLC. She had lasik with Dr Holtzman several months ago and is completely satisfied with her result. The consultation began with young lady named Trisha who is very professional and she ran several tests. I then met Dr Weltman who performed a few more diagnostics and gathered a bit more information. Dr Weltman has a great bed side manner and willingly spent time answering my questions and recommending choices for lenses should I decide to have the surgery. I am still considering my options. I am very satisfied with my experience at TLC and if I decide to go ahead with the procedure, I would not hesitate to work with Dr Holtzman. read more

I had an appointment and was running late. I called to let them know. The phone rang for at least 20 minutes. When I arrived, I was told they were running behind schedule and would not be able to see me. I received no call, text, or email indicating they were running behind schedule. The young woman was kind but for the doctor to say that I can't be seen was rude, especially, since they were behind schedule because other patients arrived late. What a waste of my time, scheduling an appointment, completing the online patient check-in and information form, and travel. I'll never go back. read more

This place is falling apart. If you have any sort of complications or need any follow-ups at all, you are completely out of luck. They shut down their direct phones and all calls now go to a generic call center who have no clue about how to assist anyone with anything. They promise call backs but never do. I really wanted to believe in this place with great reviews and word of mouth recommendations , but unfortunately they once again will not be getting my business. After scheduling I'm a consultation and completing this, I was told that I would be given a call but Monday no later than Wednesday. Well let's just say that was two weeks ago and no word. No email no call no voicemail. I don't really appreciate my time and money being wasted. I guess they feed you how they are world renown and they work with celebrities that people like myself are not work a call. Welp taking my money Update: I finally got a call and email. I need for y'all to train employees on accepting fault and ownership. Things that you do not do is blame me for not answering my phone when you call me. Then say did so and so call you. No they didn't. Then follow up I left you a voicemail. No you didn't Sir. It would have been so much better if you apologized for the delay and accept that y'all drop the ball but no you could even do that. All of the Doctors and front desk staff has always been so kind and amazing. Unfortunately whoever is now in charge of scheduling was very rude and entitled. I have referred multiple people to TLC over the years, and have always spoken very highly of Dr. Holzman and his team and will continue to do so but I hope that certain staff members learn some manners. read more

I had Lasik done here 2 weeks ago and the experience could not have been better. The staff is incredible and super helpful. They keep you informed and comfortable every step of the way. After that initial consultation I knew that this was the right place to get it done. Dr. Holzman, the surgeon, is amazing! He is so nice. He even messaged me after the surgery to make sure I was doing well. He's very experienced so you will be in great hands. At approx $5k it's definitely pricey- but it includes all the follow up visits (you have to go once a year) and a touch up (if in a few years your vision changes theyll correct it). Also, with everything I pay in contacts and glasses this is well worth it. I 1000% reccomend this place for anyone considering lasik in the dc area. read more

My only regret is not getting Lasik sooner. This was the best decision ever! I can write a novel about how amazing the facility, staff and Dr. Holzman is but let's cut to the facts: Parking: they do not validate and parking cost $6, $8 and $10 all day. If you come in after 5pm, they will ask you to prepay for the all day of $10 because they close at 7pm. If you leave before 7pm, they will refund you based on how many hours you stayed. So bring cash. Their standard Lasik/ PRK is about $5,4xx. I do not have vision insurance but I received a 10% discount for having Blue Cross Blue Shield. You can apply for the Care Credit with 24 months of no interest. You can either apply online or in person and you'll know instantly. They also have $400 off coupon in their website. Any discount is better than nothing. Consultation is about 2 hours so be prepared. Kristina and Dr. S definitely made me feel comfortable and answered all of my annoying questions. Once you are approved, start taking Vitamin C (2000mg), fish oil (2000 mg) and Refresh Optive Advanced. You cannot wear contacts for a week. Ladies, no eye make up. A few days before your surgery day, you go back so they can double check your eyes and give you prescriptions and schedules on when to take it. I had PRK so I had 3 different drops (not including the Refresh) and one pill. You will need to start taking these one day prior to your surgery day and for a whole week. Total cost was close to $400 with my insurance. You get lifetime guaranteed, nationwide. Your follow up appointments are free for at least a year. I think. Bring a designated driver during surgery day and dress warm! The moment you get up from that operating bed, you will feel like you've been reborn and want to test out your new eyes! Put on your stunna shades (that TLC provides), get in the car and sleep! If the Xanax doesn't put you to sleep then knock down a few tequilla shots to put you to bed. Trust me. You. NEED. This 3 hour sleep. The surgery is quick and painless. Getting an eyelash in your eye hurts more than getting Lasik. Seriously. I may be lucky because I did not experience any pain after my surgery. Just slight dry eyes and dull pain on my head (couple of days) because of the swimming goggles (TLC provides) I had to wear when I go to sleep for a week. Your eyes will be crusty from all the drops but its ok! Rock them crusty eyes! Or clean them with q-tip... DO NOT RUB YOUR EYE or apply any sort of pressure on it. Ladies, no eye make up. My vision was blurry for a few days. When I went to my follow up appointment, my vision went from -5.50 (right) & -5 (left) to -3 in 4 days! In one week after surgery, my vision is back to "normal" as if I was wearing my contacts! My eyes are still healing and vision is still getting better every day!!! Ladies, still no eye make up for a month but it's ok, you'll have a lifetime to wear em! read more

I am about 2 weeks removed from my surgery and couldn't be happier I chose TLC in Rockville. Unfortunately I can't remember the names of everyone I dealt with throughout the process (there were about 5 or 6 people) but I only have nice things to say about all of them. Friendly, personable, thorough, and willing to answer all of my questions. From the first phone call up to the moment I was lying down for the procedure I never had an ounce of doubt that I made the right choice. I could write a big fluff piece about all of that but let's get the important stuff that most people want to know: Pre surgery process: You go in for your consultation and they go over everything you could possibly want to know while taking various scans of your eyes and doing some standard vision tests and things of that nature. My initial consultation was done by Mariah and she was fantastic. After that you sit down with the doctor (can't remember his name but he was great to work with as well) and they go over the results and let you know if you are a good candidate and answer any questions you may have. Assuming you are a good candidate you proceed with scheduling your pre op and surgery day. The pre op is more or less the same as the consultation. More scans and testing to verify the previous results and finalize everything for surgery day. As I said they are VERY thorough and I appreciate that nothing ever felt rushed and instead was all detailed and layed out clearly from day 1. I believe the guys name from my pre op visit was Ben and again, another great person to work with. At the end of this visit you will go over payment stuff and also be given a detailed schedule of do's and don't leading up to and for after surgery. It is probably redundant at this point but the lady that deals with that portion of things also had a great personality. Surgery Day: I am not the nervous type but Lasik is a big deal and I assume quite a few people are nervous about taking the leap. If you are one of the nervous ones I can assure you TLC does everything they can to make it a very stress free and relaxing experience (they even have a zen room to relax in before the surgery). You go through the prep and then sit down with Dr. Holzman before the surgery. As with every other person I mentioned he was great to work with. There was no rush, we talked about the surgery obviously, but also had a chat about football and who rooted for who and things along those lines. The actual surgery was essentially more of the same. He talks you through every step of the process and what he is doing and you couldn't ask for a better person to do the surgery. Without going into what Lasik actually entails I would say it is roughly the same as going to the dentist for a teeth cleaning. I may be a bit bias because I hate going to the dentist but given the choice I would go for Lasik again before another teeth cleaning. It is quicker and there are no bleeding gums. Results: You have a 1 day post op and a 1 week post op initially following the surgery. At both visits I had 20/20 vision and at about 2 weeks removed I have had no problems with blurriness or anything similar. For me the biggest annoyance for a little while after the surgery is dry eyes but it is easily manageable. So there you have it. If you are someone who is considering Lasik and are nervous about the process I recommend you AT LEAST go in to TLC for a consultation and see what it is like. The Rockville location was a little over an hour away from me and it was worth the drive to have them be the ones to handle my procedure. A+ stuff. read more

WARNING!!!!! Absolutely HORRIBLE. Do not go. Do not waste your time. They NEVER return a phone call. They WONT send me my medical records (Yes, I've filled out the release form. Yes, I gave them my email address, my home address, etc.) Their call centers tell me the office isn't open on Monday's (they are open on Monday's). The call center tells me they've left a message on my behalf. When I call the DIRECT line, none of the prompts work and I get disconnected. After my exam, I was told the doctor would call me to review/discuss - never happened! Awful, just awful. read more

I had lasik about a week and a half ago and am happy I went through with it! My pre-op exam was thorough and the Dr. was happy to answer my long list of questions. There are a LOT of eye drops you have to take pre and post surgery, all starting on different days at different doses, but the surgical consultant Kristina goes over them with you in detail and writes out a schedule. She was also very responsive to email pre and post surgery which I appreciated. On surgery day, plan to be in the office for a while. I was very nervous, but everyone I met with was reassuring and they (along with the xanax) helped calm me down. I met Dr. Holzman about 30 minutes before surgery for the first time. He has a calm demeanor and makes you feel like lasik is no big deal - when I told him where I worked, he told me he did surgery for 3 people at my company the day before. Once you take the xanax and ask him any questions you may have, they move you to the zen room, where you sit in a reclining chair and try to relax before the procedure. Lasik itself takes maybe 10 minutes. The first part is the worst - you feel heavy pressure on your eyes and your vision goes black for a couple seconds. However, that lasts 2 minutes max, and the rest is easy. And when it's over, you can see! I couldn't believe how quickly it went by. Once you get home, make sure to take a solid 3 hour nap - my eyes felt dry and pressurized before the nap, but I feel asleep easily and when I woke up I felt much better. That night, Dr. Holzman texted me to make sure everything was going ok. One thing to note is the experience with Dr. Holzman is a little impersonal because you don't meet him until surgery day. For me this wasn't a big deal - I was looking for someone who had performed lasik thousands of times to the point where it was extremely routine. Dr. Holzman does lasik for everyone from the eye doctors in the D.C. area to the quarterback for the Redskins. This place is a well oiled machine which to me was comforting, but if you're looking for a Dr. to talk with extensively, I wouldn't recommend TLC. Overall, this was a great experience and I would recommend TLC! The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is a lot of waiting involved while you're in the office. read more

LASIK is a scary, risky procedure, so you want to go to the best possible provider. I'm not sure you could find a better place than TLC. They are extremely professional, knowledgable, and accommodating, and best of all they will be honest with you about risks--not just general risks, but those specific to your individual eyes. I always felt as though I was being treated fairly by the staff and they were patient with my litany of questions and scheduling confusions. Best of all, I was a -6 (myopic, plus astigmatism) in glasses and I now see better than 20/20. If you're considering LASIK, definitely consider TLC. read more

These reviews simply cannot be real. This place is scary and so is this surgery. Like the one other review said, I am SO glad that I found out what a fraud this place was and backed out. They lied to me about the risks and when I questioned them a out the fine print they were very strange. I found out that 10 of these centers got slapped with a class action suit in 2010 and now I know why. read more

First off, I do want to thank Dr. Holtzman for his work. He did a fantastic job and I could not be happier with my new vision. Sadly, i must write about the horrible story I just received from one of my good friends and her experience with the Rockville Office. My friend and I were talking and she showed an interest in giving her son a gift of better vision. I immediately told her about Dr. Holtzman and TLC in Rockville. They treated me great and My vision has never been better. I told her to call up and to make an appointment. I met her the next day and she did not have good words for me. She had called to make the appointment and she said when she called the woman at the end of the phone was extremely rude. First, she ridiculed my friend about her accent, which is not that bad, and then my friend asked to make an appointment and all the woman on the other end of the phone had to say was "this is a $5000 procedure" She never even hinted at making an appointment, she only seemed to assume that due to my friends Latin accent, that she would be unable to pay for the procedure at all. I do not and cannot, in good faith, recommend an office with racist qualities. If you do want this procedure, I do recommend Dr. Holtzman, but I do not recommend the Rockville office read more

I am not happy with the results of my eye surgery. Prior to coming here for LASIK, I was near-sighted, meaning things at a distance were out of focus, but I was able to see things close-up very well. I sometimes wore glasses to drive or watch a movie, but could get by without. When I moved to Maryland and went in to DMV to get my drivers license, I didn't pass the vision test, so my license says corrective lenses restriction. That is what drove me to investigate LASIK as an option to improve my far vision, so I wouldn't have to wear contact lenses or glasses to drive. I was quoted a good price at TLC through my vision plan, so I decided to get LASIK done here. After a long screening and consultation process, the doctor suggested I get PRK procedure for my particular eyes instead of traditional LASIK for a variety of very complicated reasons. I trusted their judgement and went with the PRK even though it has a longer and more difficult recovery period. It has now been 5 weeks since my surgery and I am fully healed, but disappointed in the results. In hindsight, I wish I had NOT gotten the PRK/LASIK. Sure, I can see long distance detail better now, but my close-up vision is now horrible. When I look at my computer screen or iPhone or paper documents, everything is blurry. I had to go out and buy reading glasses in order to see anything. Now I'm forced to wear glasses most of the day, which I've never had to do before in my entire life. So, now my vision is worse than it was before. It was a waste of money. For any of you out there who are on the fence about getting LASIK, I would suggest you ask a lot of questions and think about the trade-offs. Ask about Monovision and KAMRA Inlay. With LASIK, it's like having permanent contacts on your eyes. You cannot get 100% good vision - you have to choose between near-sighted or far-sighted. Apparently, you can't have both. I didn't fully comprehend the ramifications of this. Think about how much in a typical day you look at cell phone screens, computer screens, books, mail, receipts, food labels, etc. Can you live with wearing reading glasses? I just want to go back to the natural vision I had prior to coming to TLC. Hopefully, TLC or another eye doctor can fix my issue, but that's going to require a lot more money out my pocket! read more

The only thing getting them two stars was that I got a good exam by the doctor. Otherwise, this place is a joke. I set up my consultation online, got a confirmation call from one of their call centers, and was all set. Until I showed up for my appointment and they didn't have it in their system. The doctor "squeezed" me in (according to the front desk, he was supposed to leave at noon, the time of my appointment, so he was basically doing me a favor. Too bad the doctor told us during my exam that he was there until four and didn't have any other patients scheduled after me.) I get through my exam, which was thorough (I'll give them that) and I was told I was on the brink between being able to do PRK and having to go with ICL (the lens transplant). I should mention that this was after he had to take my glasses back to the machine that reads the prescription - because the tech wrote in MY chart the prescription of the glasses that were on the machine BEFORE mine. So anyway, even though I was on the edge of the two, the doctor wouldn't entertain seeing how the PRK did - he insisted on the ICL, to the tune of $9300. After every question we had, the doctor would finish his answer with "If there are no other questions, I'll get you over to the surgical coordinator, and she can go over payment and financing." (Gee, obvious where his priorities were.) We were put in an office that smelled like a used litter box (straight up ammonia smell, like cat pee) with a woman who obviously had no interest in explaining anything except the financing part. She gave us the papers, along with a folder of information, and told me that with my insurance it would be $8271. She told me when the doctor did the surgeries at their Bowie center, and finished by telling me she would call me in a couple of days to schedule everything. 2 weeks later and not a PEEP out of anyone. I guess they don't really want the $8200, because I was still willing to move forward if it meant getting my vision fixed. I haven't bothered to call to follow up for the simple fact that they made it obvious that they only cared about the money. I'm going with another provider. **UPDATE** I had PRK through LasikPlus in February. I currently have 20/20 vision with zero complications. read more

CAVEAT: This is not a recommendation for laser eye surgery--you must make these decisions on your own in consult with your doctor!! That said, it's been six months since having my Lasik done, and I've suffered no problems except that which they advertise. I'm completely happy about my decision, except for an occasional 'false gesture' when I reflexively go for my glasses and then I realize the're nowhere to be found and not needeed! I was directed to TLC by virtue of my wife's eye shop (Virginia Vision Associates). She had really good service from them and based on this, I was willing to work with TLC. Dr. Holtzman has offices in Virginia and Maryland; the Maryland office was good for my post-op return home. This evaluation is for the Maryland office--I didn't visit any other location. The venue is a first-floor in a large office building. Parking is not validated, so it can be somewhat annoying if you have to wait for your appointment (I did), because that eats into your parking time. The staff was quite friendly and helpful--none of your preliminary visits are with Dr. Holtzman--and is oriented toward closing the deal. Thus, you will have your eyes measured, any questions answered, and a discussion of costs and pre-planning/visualization of the preparations needed (eye drops, etc.) and what to expect on your day and the days after. All of this is important if you go ahead with the procedure. I felt like this was a bit of sales theater to convince you that the cost is justified. On the day of my surgery, I had the same friendly staff, all supportive of me in my decision (more theater) and was guided through a series of pre-op relaxation spaces. Maybe this is necessary for some, but for me it was a whole lot of waiting and anticipation. The actual surgery was quick--almost as if in a dream. I finally got to see Dr. Holtzman! Literally, within 10 minutes he had my eyes finished. (Zap bang!) My wife came to pick me up; I relaxed as they suggested, had a nice weekend where I discovered everything becoming clearer. Cut to today: no glasses, clear eyesight on my bike (I didn't realize that bugs are more prone to fly into your eye w/o glasses, grin), more comfort in driving, and a need for professional pictures that feature me w/o my glasses. If there is any negative statement about Dr. Holtzman is with respect to their sales pitch. They stated that "during your surgery, you might smell a burning odor. This is normal and are the gases inside the laser that are required for operation." This is BS and I don't like to be patronized--it reduces the value of patient-doctor trust. I only know this because a colleague of mine that got the surgery two weeks later at another doctor's was told that the smell is the laser burning/cutting your cornea. (kinda smells like singed hair). No big whoop, but I'm a believer in honesty and being treated like an adult. All in all, this is a great thing (wish I'd done it when I'm younger) that is part of the Laser Eye-Industrial Complex. I'm not going to bet that the surgery will cost any less than it does in ten years. The laser manufacturers are milking their patents for all they are worth, charging doctors for every time they flip the thing on. read more

What better way to wake up in the morning than with clear vision? I'm still in disbelief that I don't have to reach for my glasses or take out my lenses at night. So I've been wearing glasses since the age of 6 (beat that hipsters). I had a fair bit of myopia and had a pretty hefty astigmatism (just below TLC's eligibility criteria) so I was the bit skeptical. I'm now two weeks post Lasik, 20/20 vision with a significant reduction in astigmatism (according to my doc an insignificant, nominal amount remains which I truthfully can't notice), and I could not be happier! Thank you TLC! I received exception service from everyone on the TLC Rockville team, including Dr. Angeles, Tammy, Lee, Tony, and Dr. Holtzman. They made the consultation, pre-op, and procedure a most comfortable and pleasant experience. I must admit that although the procedure was not the least bit painful, I totally felt like I was on a sci-fi themed episode of Nip/Tuck: mildly sedated, eyes numb, lids held open by some gismo, teddy bear in hand, Pink Floyd playing in the background, words of encouragement from the green scrubs, laser beams, the whole nine yards! I kept waiting for Dr. Christian Troy to land in a spaceship. Just a couple post-op tips: #1. Things are really blurry when the procedure is done. Don't be alarmed, just go home and take a 2-3 hour nap and all will be well when you wake up! #2. Your eyes may be sensitive and dry as hell for the first couple of weeks. Again, be patient. Three-seven days post-op, I really struggled in front of the computer at work. Turns out the screen was drying my eyes even though I didn't realize it. I called TLC and they reassured me that this was normal and that I should use eye lubricating drops more frequently when in front of the computer for the first week or so. So I did and everything resolved itself rather quickly. Now a full two weeks later, I still see wonderfully, my eyes feel great, no longer too dry, and no issues in front of the computer/tv anymore. I had my custom LASIK done by Dr. Whitten on March 11 - my vision is now 20/15 (better than 20/20). The staff and TLC operation is top notch - they were extremely thorough doing the exams, answered all my questions and were completely professional. There is some burny/scratchiness after the eye numbing drops wear off, but I took a nap straightaway when I got home and the pain was gone when I woke up. If you get it done, ask for TWO valium before the procedure and take the Tylenol PM they give you afterward! :) read more

My eye doctor recommended TLC to me when I mentioned that I was interested in Lasik. I thought that I would go in for a consult there and also check out other places, because eye surgery is a big deal and I need to feel confident about where I get it done. From my first visit there I felt sure that this place was right for me. They answered all of my questions, kept me informed about everything every step of the way, were very kind and reassuring, and extremely professional. When it was time for my surgery to happen, I got pretty anxious, Dr. Holzman and everyone else involved was very reassuring and did their best to keep my relaxed. My procedure took 10 minutes at most. There were some unforeseen minor complications (completely unrelated to the eye surgery and the TLC eye center) afterward and everyone in the area took the time to make sure my husband and I were taken care of, comfortable, and looked after. Dr. Holzman, as well as others from TLC, followed up in the following days to make sure everything was going okay. Every single person that I came in contact with at TLC was extremely caring and professional while remaining realistic (Though Tammy is truly the best!). They made sure to take the time to answer all of my questions and make sure I was fully aware of the risks of the procedure. They did an awesome job and 1 month out from my procedure, I am feeling and seeing great! I would definitely choose TLC again with no hesitation if I had to do it all over again. read more

I sat on this review for about 9 months since my procedure before posting, but suffice to say, I think LASIK is worth every penny. This is not the cheapest place to get LASIK by far, but there are few comparable doctors in the area with the level of experience and reputation as Holzman in the area. They turn away I believe about 25% of people who seek a consultation from what I recall, which helped me solidify my decision about TLC. Anyone who's shopped around for LASIK in the area knows that there are other "cheaper" options that will readily operate on them. I have a firm belief that TLC wants nothing but success stories coming out of their offices and their reputation relies on that, so they only operate on people who they believe will make a solid recovery. I also have two risk factors (large pupils and being an Asian female) that would put me at a heightened risk of complications not to mention I have GAD so I was very anxious about the whole thing so I did one eye at a time. I have to be honest, I thought I made a mistake for a good six months. I would get eye strain in front of the computer, the pain from the first week after the procedure was severe. I had pretty bad glare for 1-3 months and my dryness was moderate (but not severe) for a 6 months making my vision fluctuate. I was wondering if I just made myself dependent on expensive eye drops and thinking about "What if..." desert island scenarios where this procedure rendered me disabled. (logically you're worse off breaking or losing your glasses on a desert island but logic does not prevail in the face of anxiety!) Despite my paranoia, the doctors here will reassure you that you're fine. TRUST THEM. 9 months out, my vision is better than 20/20 and I barely think about my eyes. I think about them when I wake up and they're a bit dry in the morning (use a humidifier!) and before I go to bed as a precaution. Yes, the drops are expensive but with only drops 2x a day you can make individual vials last. I love being able to see without glasses and doing active, outdoor activities is just a lot more enjoyable. The first time you get into the ocean or swim in a creek and being able to see your surroundings should convince you why LASIK is not just about aesthetics but quality of life. And do yourself and the doctors a favor and just get both eyes done at once. (you prolong your own suffering!) 2018 update - vision still strong, the occasional eye drop required. read more

Just got off the phone with them. OMG they were rude. I don't have time to come in for a consult. I ask if they can give me some baseline prices, so I can compare with others and they said they couldn't over the phone. They tried to figure out where that would happen in my schedule, but I explained that I have a young child to take care of and work full-time. I also have limited vacation time. They didn't understand that means I don't have time to do consults for funsies. They suggested a weekend consult. But my weekend time is quality time with baby. They didn't want to give me a generic estimate over the phone so I could avoid pawning my baby off on a sitter, but they also didn't want to me to bring my baby with me in the office. Then it came out that I was breastfeeding. I didn't know you couldn't do lasik or the like while breastfeeding. The woman then encouraged me to quite breastfeeding to get lasik. I was like what?!? By the end of the call the woman that was trying sales pitch me was talking over me. I couldn't even say "Good-bye" because she wouldn't let me get it in. This place came recommended by my eye doctor and was our top choice for my husband and I, but I can tell they are only in it for money and not actually helping customers. read more

This place is a well-oiled machine, exactly what you want from a practice that is doing surgery on your eyes. Dr. Holtzman did a really good job with my surgery. He was very specific in his requests in the operating room and seems very confident in his work. My vision with both eyes is 2015, and as many people say it's some of the best money I've ever spent. The only long term issue I have is some dryness in my eyes. If I had to pick between wearing glasses and occasional dry eye, I choose not wearing glasses. The surgery itself is more discomfort than any kid of pain. They give you a Xanax for surgery and suggest a drink later to make sure you sleep after surgery or you could experience pain. After the nap, as long as you keep up with your drops, there shouldn't be an issue. The surgery at TLC is more expensive than other places, but they do have the latest lasik machine. The EX500 with Contura if you need it. Other popular lasik providers in the area don't always have that. When it came to my eyes, I was less concerned about saving money. I paid extra for a good doctor and the overall experience. They gave good guidance in eye care before and after surgery, and I know friends who paid less at other providers and didn't get that. Their office and staff are all really nice as well, no issues. The only downside is to maintain their vision correction "warranty" you have to provide proof you get your eyes checked yearly. Not terrible, but the point of this surgery is to not have to goto an eye dr anymore. I could possibly skip that, but if I need a correction again in 15/20 years it would be free. Overall, I do recommend TLC Rockville with Dr. Holtzman. Thank you TLC! read more

Class act. I signed up with TLC after researching all of the options around here. The coupon/discount/"value" providers had some pretty sketchy reviews, and if you're here you know people have mostly great things to say about TLC Rockville. Add me to that list. They explain everything, make you feel at ease with it, and really do a great job with what is a scary procedure to walk into. I had my surgery nine months ago now and am still telling friends how great it is to see without my glasses! I kept one pair of my glasses, every few weeks I'll look through them and just say wow, I was how blind?! Absolutely no regrets. Referred two friends to them and counting, both of them have also been thrilled at the service and results. These guys deserve all five stars I've given them. read more

Dr. Holzman and team did a great job correcting my eye sight. I used to wear contacts and I was tired of ordering them, buying solution, cleaning them, and putting them in and taking them out. It was too much. I read some reviews online about Dr. Holzman - sounded legit so I scheduled my first appointment that week. You will have a couple of tests done to make sure your vision is good for Lasik. These people know what they are doing. After the tests they ask you not to wear contacts for about 30 days (might be less). Procedure took 5 mins lol. Dr. Holzman was very nice and made me feel less nervous about the operation. He followed up with me the next day to make sure everything was ok. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT WHEN THERE IS NO TRAFFIC!!!!!! AFTER THE PROCEDURE YOU NEED TO GO HOME AND SLEEP!! IT WILL HURT A BIT IF YOU DONT FALL ASLEEP BY TIME THE NUMBNESS WEARS OFF! I made the mistake to schedule my appointment at 3:30 PM and it was a struggle getting home. Make sure you have a DD - you cannot drive after your procedure. I highly recommend Dr. Holzman - My vision is great and my eyes arent dry anymore. Best investment! read more

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME! So a day after my surgery I was back at work and I had zero pain. The morning after I was already 20/20 and should wind up with better than 20/15 vision! Dr. Holzman was amazing and called me from home the night of my surgery to make sure everything was going well. Unfortunately, TLC's Lifetime Commitment is not really a lifetime commitment - at least to anyone using their services prior to their bankruptcy and buyout. Apparently, the new owners decided that patients who paid a premium for their services at centers that are now closed are not due the respect of honoring the Lifetime Commitment that was promised. A real shame as my 2013 surgery was a successful experience. Their promised future commitment not so much. So a word of caution to anyone thinking their loyalty is as sincere as written. read more

My experience with the staff and Dr. Holzman was genuinely the best I could have imagined. From the beginning, Mariah was so nice and explained everything in great detail. Dr. Smeriglio was also amazing, really took the time to answer my questions and explain how the procedure would work. On the day of my surgery, I was obviously nervous and the staff was great at calming my nerves. I started wearing glasses for nearsightedness when I was in 3rd grade. In high school I started wearing contact lenses; then later I was diagnosed with astigmatism. About a year ago, I started having problems, and was told I wouldn't be able to wear contact lenses anymore. Without my glasses, I was basically blind. I've been a swimmer all my life, and love scuba diving and everything related to being in the water; the thought of wearing glasses and not being able to do the things I love was just unbearable. Dr. Holzman and TLC changed all of that!! I couldn't not be happier! One of the best decisions I've made, was going to TLC and having the LASIK procedure with Dr. Holzman. Everyone at the Center is wonderful. Everyone was very helpful and very informative leading up to the procedure, during, and after. They took the time to explain every detail of the procedure, so that I would be relaxed and confident the day of the procedure. The entire procedure took all of 10 minutes, and did not cause me any serious pain. Just a little pressure, and slight discomfort. Minutes after the procedure my vision was improved (though a bit blurry). 3 hours after my procedure I could see; and 24 hours after the procedure I could see 20/20. Seriously life changing!! You really need to follow all the doctor's instructions and recommendations. You need to do the prescribed eye-drops. I was diagnosed with dry-eye prior to the LASIK, and was well informed that this condition would likely worsen as a result of LASIK, but was instructed before the procedure to start on prescription and non-prescription eye-drops to help alleviate the dry-eye. And was instructed/prescribed eye-drops to continue to take after LASIK. Of course the doctors were right, and my eyes are dry, but the eye-drops help, and I can see, which is something I haven't been able to do since 3rd grade! I'm told the dryness will improve over time. I could not be happier with the results, and the entire experience was great!! read more

Potential patients should note the following about TLC Lasik, Dr. Holzmann, and his staff: - PRICE DISCRIMINATION: they will negotiate the price with you, starting at $4,600 in my case. If you decide to come here, then definitely negotiate - they lack any scruples and will try to nickle-and-dime you. I later discovered another Rockville Lasik provider with a $4,400 procedure (just over the phone, no negotiations required). The place has a used car dealership vibe. - UNPROFESSIONAL STAFF: The procedure is fast (think "drive-thru Lasik"), but context/information about healing is minimal. Staff will instead have you sign various sheets to attempt to waive their liability for problematic operations. They, including Dr. Holzmann, will also become aggressive if you ask questions (however politely) about the healing process and next steps. The doctor backed down when confronted about this, backpedaling and admitting that many people have questions and concerns following the procedure. - UNRESPONSIVE STAFF: The phone is almost never (if ever) answered by the local office. Instead, calls are routed to TLC's center, which cannot book follow-up appointments in Rockville. Oddly, initial pre-Lasik exams are easily booked. This changes once you've paid. Appointments made at the front desk might also be pushed, e.g. 8:30 appointment delayed until 9, when staff arrived late. CONCLUSION: Come here if you have no other options. read more

Just wanted to update my review, I finally got a call back from Dr. S. yesterday and received the letter I requested as well as he sent a vision update to the MVA. I still think this should have been done automatically without probing but glad it's done either way. Here it goes..11 years later and my eyes are still 20/20. I used to have really poor vision and used contacts and glasses all the time. I am so happy I researched and found this facility. I went to to the initial consultation and they were very friendly and thoroughly checked to make sure I qualified for Lasik. My husband went along with me and they showed him how poor my vision was and he was amazed and said get done as soon as possible. The day of the surgery they gave me a pill to keep calm and some drops in my eyes. It was a very easy and only remember it taking no more than 10 minutes. The craziest part was that I was able to see 20/20 vision instantly once I got out of the chair. Amazing!!!! If anyone in management is reading this, I apologize for not giving my review sooner.
