My review, however, is based solely on Betty Cakes' cakes, as I've only stopped in for takeout desserts and haven't yet had the opportunity to sit down and enjoy lunch and cake at the café. Over the years, I've tried several of their specialty cake flavors, including Easter Dirt, Strawberry Shortcake, and Guava, as well as their Bundt cakes such as Sour Cream Pound, German Chocolate Rum, Hummingbird, and Pumpkin. Every one of them has been delicious. What I appreciate most is that these cakes don't just taste wonderful--they look special. Each slice appears to have been made with care and attention to detail. They're the kind of desserts that make you feel like you're treating yourself to something truly special, as if that slice of cake was made just for you. The cakes are consistently moist, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether it's a seasonal specialty cake or one of their Bundt cakes during the holidays, I've found myself returning again and again. In fact, I've made it a tradition to stop by for their specialty and holiday cakes throughout the year. There are plenty of places to buy dessert, but Betty Cakes creates cakes that are both tasty and memorable. The quality, presentation, and homemade touch keep me coming back. Have been going to Betty cakes for over 15 years. Was not aware of new ownership. Ordered a birthday cake for my husband's 50th birthday. Paid $112 which I was fine with it because I was thinking it was going to be exceptional. The cake was nothing like the picture I had sent them. All it said was 50. The cake did have the colors I wanted. Also wanted raspberry in the middle. There was a thin line of raspberry. Barely could taste the raspberry. I don't mind paying money for a cake. I want it to be worth $112. At the most this cake that was made was a $60 cake. So disappointed. I was embarrassed handing the cake out saying we got it from Betty Cakes. I ordered a birthday cake for my niece several months ago. When I picked it up it had the wrong icing. No offer by management to refund my money. These cakes are expensive. A few months later, I ate lunch at the cafe and ordered a piece of cake. Very disappointed in how the icing has changed. It doesn't taste like buttercream icing any longer, more like it was made with crisco. Extremely sweet, too much so. The cake itself is still delicious and feathery. My final straw this week was stopping in to buy a piece of pound cake. Betty Cakes used to make an excellent pound cake, which I've bought many times. Unfortunately, it now tastes like the pound cake is made with oil. it was greasy, and had the same texture as the nasty pre-made "creme" cakes you buy at grocery stores, which are made with oil. That was my last trip back. I suspect Ms. Betty is rolling in her grave at the poor quality of what was once a great bakery. read more

This bakery came highly recommended. I wanted a Florida Gator cake for my son's graduation cake. They said they've made hundreds but only one pic on their website. It was more for a child so I wanted another design, the said I had to bring in a pic, they could not take a custom order over the phone, text or email. We were coming from out of town so that was not possible. I settled for the one design and ordered a hummingbird cake as well. The cakes had been frozen and the icing was disappointing as well. I had Betty Cakes create a birthday cake for my Mom's 85th Birthday Party. I loved the design but wish I had given more specific instruction about the color of the lettering on the top of the cake. It was a more subdued pink which was not very visible. Food and service were fantastic! I had the chicken salad wrap and it came with fruit and chips and my husband had the grilled rum and it also came with fruit and chips. If you want a cake the is perfectly cooked and moist this is the place. They have a cute little store to shop while you wait and a lunch are if you don't have to walk around and just have a sandwich. The coffee could be better and they can certainly expand their business by investing in an espresso machine, and by updating their online ordering process at least for the basic cake orders, but other than that they can count on my business and referral time and time again. read more

I had lunch with a friend that I've known since elementary school here on 6-15-2022. It came as a suggested place to try and I was game. I had a sandwich with chips and lemonade. The sandwich was good. Just the right amount of toppings. Fresh lettuce and tomato too. The chips were fresh and crunchy. I liked the lemonade. We had to order at the counter and then your food was brought out to you. This is an interesting setup in that the restaurant is inside of another store and in the back off to the side. You can shop before or after you eat. I managed not to do either. The parking lot was busy and had plenty of parking. People are paying atleast $28 for a 1 layer 8" round cakes.. but the recipes could easily be done at home with a box of Betty crocker and Hines cake mix is mixed together. Cheap ingredients for high prized company. They get their cake mixes at either Walmart or sav a lot. The icing that they use comes off the bag of powdered sugar. Stopped in to get some samples of their cakes. They had several different flavors on the counter to choose from. (Red velvet was almost gone!) Left with a slice of chocolate and a slice of vanilla, and some small, Halloween-themed cupcakes (see pix). I have to admit, the taste of this cake is truly scrumptious. I don't know if I would drive from Gainesville again to get it though ... Just FYI: The bakery/cafe is located in the back of "Your Heart's Desire" (gift shop). On a Thursday @ 11:30am, there were already several tables of patrons waiting for their lunch/cafe orders. At the register/check-out counter, there were probably 20 previously ordered cakes in boxes waiting to be picked up. I was told that by day's end, they would probably sell about 40 more! Obviously, people like this cake! If you need to order a cake, give them 4-5 days notice. For the cafe, they had several types of sandwiches, and the ladies working there were trying to hustle the food out as fast as they could. But they could probably use more help. Cancer and Emergency surgery canceling your Christmas plans are not a good enough reason to cancel your order at "Bitty" Cakes. Just found out that my father has cancer and will be going in for emergency surgery on Thursday to have it removed. (Christmas is Saturday.) My mother called to cancel a part of her order as we would not be having any family over as planned due to dad needing to recover from surgery over the holiday. (Merry Christmas to us, Right?!) My mother explained all of this to the lady on the phone, only to be cussed out, told she would not get her money back, but only a store credit good for 6 months, which would only be redeemable for the exact same order she placed originally. The staff was incredibly rude and anything but gracious. My parents, my in-laws, my wife and myself have been patrons and customers of "Bitty" Cakes for years... after today, they will never see the color of our money again. read more
