    Me and my fat face.

Mr. Lee is very consistent on his faces and cuts. Comes with shampoo at the end with no extra charge. Very reasonable price for a great cut.

I just wanted a normal haircut and instead got an amazing haircut. Jung was the barber that cut my hair and I was very impressed by his meticulousness and care with my hair. Also, he's one of those barbers that listens to what you want and then makes it even better. And to top if all off, it was for less than $20 (not including tip). 11/10 would recommend.

Once or twice a month I participate in the centuries old ritual of the shave.

Whatever city I am in, I try to find the best shave and haircut. In Los Angeles, a quick perusal of Google and I found several top 10 lists by TV shows and trendy online webzines. I've paid anywhere from 10 to 100 dollars for a shave. Yet I have not had a finer haircut and shave than this place. I stumbled upon it by accident, tried it and have stuck with it. It does help that I speak Korean, as their English is limited. The barber has an ability to do a very tight fade with scissors, which I have never seen before. The person who does the shave is a woman, who's never cut hair, only shaved men's faces for over 20 years. They have worked together for some time. Once or twice a month I participate in the centuries old ritual of the shave. Facial hair is making a renaissance but like crops, the food of life, what is sown must be reaped. The shave brings me balance. There is also the craft of shaving someone with a blade without cutting them. I must yield to the craftsman's hands and let go. This connects me to a time when blades were normal, they served utility, they weren't just seen as a harming object but one that could also heal. I grow more appreciative of good craft and skilled craftsmen. When a treat didn't mean food, money, or drugs, a treat was also proper self-care. For artists to flourish once more we must learn to appreciate artistry and not just industrial consumer goods. For all these reasons the shave is a splendid experience. Not to mention it feels tremendous. A truly ancient spiritual experience and practice. Find a good craftsman, learn about the history of barbers, and give them a nice tip for their service. They are the last of a breed.

    Where do you park?

I usually park in front of the shop and there are a few parking spaces available. I think there may also be parking available in the back, otherwise I use a meter across the street.

He was also open about where my hair needed more growth before making cuts so I knew what areas would still be a challenge afterwards. Bring photos of your cuts you've loved. Kei uses them to dial in your style with precision. The bonus? The setting itself. You're sitting in a vintage Kochs Chicago barber chair that swivels toward their original hair wash stations, all housed in a historic 1920s building steps from the Eastern Columbia bldg in DTLA's Historic Core. I have a fairly simple understanding of hairstyles and proper hair maintenance. The barber Javin asked me questions about my usual hairstyle and went through suggestions regarding trimming technique. Ultimately, I went with low fade with and a touch up on the top. He mentioned my two hair whorls and overall head shape provided some considerations on what he thought would look natural, which I appreciated. In the end, the fade was perfect. Afterwards I went in for quick shampoo and conditioner which targeted my dandruff. While the location is somewhat out of the way for me, I can definitely rely on their dedication and handiwork.

But when he asked me what hair cut I wanted and showed him a picture of a burst fade Mohawk and he proceeded to ask have you had this haircut before. Then I showed him a picture of me with the haircut I wanted (which was a burst fade Mohawk) and he proceeded to say "is that really you". This was at the beginning of the hair cut. Mid way he asked a second time if I had ever had this hair cut before which I answered yes. Also at the beginning he had mentioned how much are we taking off the top. I mentioned just a little bit and we can work our way down. When it came to cutting the top I feel he had gone too low. At that point I just wanted to get out of the chair. I waited 2 days to post this just to see if my hair needed to settle in since I went from a wild lions mane to what ever this short hair cut I have now. But no matter how much I attempt to style my hair it just looks dumb. My feedback to Hin is if you aren't confident in cutting someone's hair then please just say so. Or if your specialty is clean cuts then tell your client so they can make the decision of sitting in the chair. I may come back to try with someone else to cut my hair since I feel the people here have some skill.

Valerie was my manicurist and she took her time giving me the full works on my very easy hands and toes because they were pretty short already but she was meticulous with everything. She did a great job. I liked the whole thing but as I look at some of the reviews the one thing I never hear anyone mention about is the price and at $150 for a Mani pedi some may say it's expensive, sheesh, I'm saying it.
