This is a biased review since I work at this location but I am reviewing from a consumer perspective. I have been coming to this Bevmo for years and loved this location. This is a great place to get all of your party essentials. By party essentials, I mean booze. Lots and lots of booze. They don't have any cigarettes or whipped cream so don't bother coming in for those but they have cigars, all the liqueurs you need and a great wine selection. They always have a 5 cent wine sale going on. They circulate the wines each week. You cannot return any alcohol once it is purchased unless it has been spoiled. No exceptions. Please keep that in mind before you buy any alcohol. If you have a wedding coming up, you can book tastings with them. They also have a keg selection as well. You need to return the keg after it's use: They have a small selection of limes, cheeses, meats, olives, cherries, and other garnishes as well. In their "and more" section, they have shot glasses, wine stoppers, bottle cappers, wine bags, flasks, mixers, and other materials to get your party rolling. The parking lot is pretty big but it can get busy during the weekends. Their is a bathroom that you can use in the store. Remember to drink responsibly :) read more

This spot was really interesting given that I've never visited a liquor store quite like this one. They have a lot of options to choose from and should you have any questions, Alex the beer guy is beyond helpful and able to give you recommendations that you're sure to love. He suggested I try a beer and sure enough I ended up liking it. I only mention this because the last time I asked somebody at a liquor store for their recommendation I ended up hating the drink. BevMo! The alcohol prices seemed comparable to other places in the area. There are plenty choices. I didn't like the cheese or pickle sections. It seemed too skimpy in the selections. I trust brandnames. The glassware section was dusty, however, they carry Luigi Bormioli. There sell greeting cards, wine bags and party cups.... And it's tucked away, but it's all there. Then, I'm at the register and the guy asked for my rewards card. I was so embarrassed because it was my first official time in the store. He asked me to fill an application out. I do weekly pick ups at BevMo for my office and home, and today had a really weird interaction with the staff. I placed an order for over $100 worth of stuff, and when two low value cans were left off of the order, they made it seem like I was lying about not getting them. Pretty ridiculous to think that someone that spends thousands of dollars at a store would try to scam them out of $10 worth of beer. Gotta love BevMo! I'm sure there are other places that warehouse a mass variety of alcohol by the bottles but BevMo allows the common shopper to explore beyond their boundary. Having their bottles sectioned off lets the shopper browse from a vast variety of specific types of alcohol of choice. When I started to shop at BevMo, I felt as if I were at Toys R Us when as a child. Having the sections allows me to choose blindly or wisely about new or uncharted types of whiskey to mark off my checklist. BevMo has tasting events as well as other goodies that are not alcohol related. From my experience I have not came across a time were my experience was not up to par. This place is pretty chill. They have a wide range of alcoholic drinks that I have never heard of since I don't drink enough to know even 1% of this place. Sometimes it seems like it's low on staff since they are usually always doing something so you just need to find an employer to ring you up. The division of drinks are nicely done and it is pretty organized here. You can find the drinks based on wine, vodka, or beer. The sweet beers are usually together as well. This Bevmo is located in the Empire Center, towards the side with all of the eateries (very close to Daphne's Greek Cafe). There is a good amount of parking in front of the store, but can be a challenge during busy weekends, and during lunch time since everyone else is parking here to get something to nosh on. But there are a few specific marked parking spots just for Bevmo customers though that is right in front of the store (but 30 minutes only). Anyways, this store is rather on the small side. Honestly, I would say this is the smallest Bevmo that I have been to (not that I have been to a ton, but I would say that I have probably been to 6 or 7 other ones). But aside from that, there is still quite a selection of alcoholic beverages that you would find in all the other stores. And currently, they are having their "5 cent wine sale" (that commercial is just so catchy isn't it?) right now, so a good time to stock up. Employees we interacted with in here were nice and greeted us upon entering and also asked us if we needed help finding anything. The free wifi worked quickly and had no trouble getting on (just have to agree to the terms and conditions, so pretty standard). Overall, a good store to check out for your next event. read more

I have been to this location twice now and both times were great experiences. I do have to give a shout out to Julie. She was present during both of my visits. During my first visit, Julie approached me to see if I needed any assistance. Usually I tell people "no" just because I don't mind finding things on my own, and it gives me a chance to look around. Well, I decided to accept her help since I knew I was only going to buy the one thing I came in for. She immediately knew where the item was that I was looking for. She was incredibly friendly and offered her opinion and knowledge on the item I was purchasing. At check out, I had a brief conversation with another employee. (I'm sorry I never even looked at his name tag) He was really friendly though and even gave me a compliment on a tattoo. It was really a great first experience. During my second visit, I knew where to go and so I did not need help this time around. Julie was there and helped me to check out. She has a natural gift of friendliness. She is extremely nice and makes conversation very well. I have always found myself visit a location more than once when I've had a good experience, even if only with one employee. It may not seem like a big deal, but being able to connect with customers really does make a huge difference in the overall experience. I asked the manager why their pricing is so high compared to Total Wine in Pasadena. He had no answer but said that if you shop BevMo in Pasadena their pricing is more competitive only because Total Wine is in that area. The workers are always ready to help. The reason why this place got 3 stars is because of the parking. OK here's the thing - I have nothing against BevMo per se, but I don't know if there are any reasons to come here other than proximity (ie, if you're there and need something and don't mind a little upsell). I like the fact that they offer inexpensive tastings, but if you are trying to get into wine or are looking to spend some money on moderate to serious wine, please stay away. First off, the 5c sale is kind of a joke and almost criminally misleading. It's basically a 50% sale on select items (ie wines they overbought and are trying to get rid of that are not selling at their normal price - with a FEW exceptions like some wines from Renwood and Alamos) but when the prices before discount aren't particularly competitive, it's not that great of a deal. For example, the 75 Wine Co. Amber Knolls Sauvignon Blanc is a decent Cali drinker, and sells here for $19.99, and is a part of the 5c wine sale, but it sells for much cheaper at other retailers (mostly between ($10-$14), so yes you might save a dollar, but this is again one of the rare wines worth buying on the list. So how do they get you to drop coin on a bunch of wines with no reputation or pedigree during this sale and during regular business? They employ their very own in-house wine critic, Wilfred Wong, who is one of the more controversial critics in the business since the ones we all pay attention to (Parker, Tanzer, Spectator, Enthusiast, etc) are independent, un-biased, and offer scores based on wines with which they have no part in the retail relationship with. In short, you hire someone to give escalated scores to unscored or negatively scored wines so that you can move more product. This might not bother some people, as it is any store's right to recommend it's products to you, but don't do it under the guise of independent review and put the scores alongside other critics with no retail agenda. I hate to sound like a shill, but there are so many independently run stores not too far away (Silverlake Wines, 55 Degrees, etc) and even bigger business stores (K&L being the best, if you ask me) that offer everything this store does, but with a staff that really knows their stuff and with prices lower and consistent. The staff at this BevMo is particularly uninspiring as I've been in on 3 occasions and asked for advice on certain wines from different employees and got a response akin to what you would get at a 7-11 or supermarket. This place doesn't really offer much of anything, and since the VAST majority of what they sell here is wine, they need to employ a staff that has at least done their homework. Plus when they don't know the answer to my question, they have ALWAYS pointed to the highest (or close to it) priced bottle within the varietal (I'm sorry, but if I ask for a solid Napa Cab don't freaking point to Pahlmeyer at $125 a pop - yes it's good but "solid" isn't the word I'd use). Bottom line, people will go here because of convenience and ease. Their organization of wines is poor, their French and Italian selections laughable, and well it's a beverage store so I guess not being a wine-o's heaven is OK since they sell lots of sticky mixers and other crap :) read more

They have such a HUGE selection of the HOOCH that you might develop alcoholism just attempting to try everything they have, just don't try it all at once or you might die... It is very frustrating that bevmo does not have a set return policy and that it varies from store to store. With that said, I tried to return unopened bottles of alcohol and was denied because it is all based on the manager's decision. Bevmo was my first choice when it came to buying beer, wine, or spirits. This has been a very upsetting experience for something that could have easily been resolved. It comes in several different varieties. The one I was looking for was a Syrah. I had found the wine before at Trader Joes. Then, Trader Joes didn't carry it after that (they often run out of items and you never see them again)! Damn! Enter this place Bev Mo. I found the wine there and all the other varieties that are Layer Cake label. Yes the wine has hints of chocolate. Go there and see if you can find it. Or, ask the helpful employees.
