I've been here a few times without experiencing any issues, but tonight's visit was disappointing and awkward... First, the positives. This BevMo is spacious, well-stocked, and has ample parking. The interior is clean and most of the employees are quite pleasant and helpful. Tonight, my boyfriend and I came by with a BevMo gift card. It was a gift from his friend, and he knew it had $25 on it. We picked up three wine bottles and headed over to the cashiers. Mind you -- there's only one open register. The cashier asked for his phone number. It didn't work. He had to look up his account number in an old email, and thankfully that worked. Red flag right there -- the system is faulty. The cashier rings up our items and gives him the total. He goes to use the BevMo gift card... Which the system promptly rejects. Doesn't recognize what kind of card it is. He tries it again. Doesn't work again. She says there's nothing she can do in regards to manually typing in the gift card number. Weird. She then goes to another register to see about checking the balance. The register freezes on her and doesn't work. She's forced to come back and figure it out at her own register. By now, there's 4 other patrons waiting in line and the other employees don't come over to help. Awkward. She presses a few buttons and says, "There's nothing on the card. Might explain why it's not working," and smiles. Okay... Maybe the friend didn't properly activate the gift card... We then try to use a prepaid Visa card. Guess what -- doesn't work. At this point, we're annoyed and confused. We use a regular credit card and decide we'll look up the balance on the BevMo site later. The cashier was no help and we just wanted to go. Well, what do you know, the BevMo site shows our card balance is indeed $25. No idea if the cashier wasn't running the card correctly or if the system is just down, but not a great experience and just plain awkward. I come here out of convenience, but I'd absolutely consider visiting another location if it means functional equipment. read more

One BevMo is like any other, but this one stood out a bit more to me due to the customer service. When I pulled up, the parking lot was a ghost town. I was totally surprised since usually I'm fighting for a parking spot. When I walked in to the store, it was huge. Since it was so big, displays were spread about and made it seem sort of empty. Honestly, it made the store seem overwhelming. Such a big space with everything so far from each other. Totally made it seem more like a hassle to shop there or find anything. A young man was working when I came in. He was super sweet. As soon as I walked in he greeted me and asked if I needed help finding anything. I declined and walked directly to the vodka. Once I chose mine and walked to the register, he was there starting friendly conversation. He even made some recommendations on other brands I should try in the future. Very nice touch! I have never had anyone do that before when I shopped at a BevMo. He assisted me with signing up for a rewards card and still managed to greet every other person that walked through the door. If I'm ever in the area again, I will absolutely use this BevMo for my alcohol needs. read more

This Bev Mo is so disorganized. Was carded for salsa last week, yes I was only buying salsa. The manager said it is illegal to be in the store if you're not 21. I find this very hard to believe since they sell a lot of food. Got to my car and noticed the salsa was expired like it has been many times in the past so I went in and the manager returned my money. Yesterday, I stopped in to get a chilled bottle of Champagne or sparkling wine, not 1 bottle to be found in the refrigerated section. On my way out I noticed that the fresh salsa I love was on the refrigerated shelf so thought they must have gotten a new shipment in but no, it was still all the expired salsas from 5 days earlier. I always wondered why this locator BevMo was always empty . Even though I have shopped here a few times before., today I really needed some questions answered regarding their selection. Not only did I feel like I was burdening the person helping me but when I asked if there was other locations that carry the item I was looking for the associate was not willing to search inventory nor make any effort to help me with any of my concerns. This 5 star review is for Jose! He was knowledgeable and considerate! I was picking up for a delivery and my client requested varies bottles of wine. Jose was able to select and give decent recommendation to my client. He also helped picked out cheese/salami platters, check up on prices, even helped me carry the heavy bottles to my car! Crown Royal released their new whiskey drink, "Maple Finished". I've been searching most of the day and most places did not have it. I tried BevMo in Van Nuys, but they didn't have it. So, the Van Nuys location directed me to BevMo Encino! (Love the Rhyme) Sorry, Yelpers! I have been out of the Yelp Reviews for awhile and I hope to continue writing since I've got a busy life outside of Yelp. This BevMo is located on the north side of Ventura Blvd. The BevMo parking lot is pretty big, but since it was 11am, I was the only one buying so early. Early is very relative. I walked in and saw alcohol heaven. Well, most places that carry alcohol is heaven or a haven. I spoke with the one of the BevMo employees to help me find the Crown Royal Maple Finished Whiskey. I was assisted by the lovely, Deb. She helped me get two Crown Royal Maple Finished ($24.99 regular/$22.99 ClubBev Discount) out of the glass case with the other Crown Royal Brands. She was a doll helping me and giving me advice on other drinks. She had suggested Junior Johnson's CatDaddy Moonshine ($21.99 regular/$18.99 ClubBev). I have never had moonshine, but after writing this review, I might disappear and be Andy Griffith's Otis. Deb rang my order up to a total of $70.82. She also told me that this location does Beer Tasting ($1) on Friday's from 4pm to 7pm and Wine Tasting ($2) from 1pm to 5pm. I told her that I'll be coming back more often. She even said that their location is better than Van Nuys...lol. Well, I will believe her since she suggested a lot of items for me on my first visit. Is it even possible to write a poor review for what is essentially a giant liquor/wine/spirits warehouse?! I think not. BevMo! is yet another prime example of what is missing on the East coast... and why I'm glad I made the migration across the country. The staff here is always nice, and usually helpful (though they sometimes have just as much trouble finding things as you do). What I like most about BevMo!, however, is that they not only sell alcohol, but also alcohol accessories, mixers and snacks. I've also heard they have wine & beer tastings on Fridays, though I haven't had the chance to check it out yet. The prices are pretty average, and the store is clean. Can you believe I had never ever been to a BevMo before in my life?! Yeap, it's true! So anyhow, on Valentine's day I wanted a good wine to indulge with and so I stopped by to check them out. I went in and was a bit overwhelmed w/ all the options, lol, so much so that I was about to walk right out. "Oh what the heck, I thought. Let's see what they have". The staff was friendly and helpful, one of the guys broke it down for me by sections so that definitely made it a whole lot easier. "Wow, I could spend hours here!" I thought, completely mesmerized. I took my time looking at all the wines and champagne they had and was undecided about what to get until I found Chocolate Shop The Chocolate Lover's Wine. Never tried it before so it was either gonna be a hit or miss but since I love red wine and dark chocolate, having both in a wine seemed like perfection to me, lol. Well, I am now IN LOVE with this wine! I don't like sweet wines, I tend to favor reds or pinot grigio for white, so I was scared that this wine would be too sweet but to my surprise, it wasn't! Red wines tend to be strong and just a tad bit bitter at times but this wine is smooth, still strong as a red wine should be, and perfectly infused with the dark chocolate to offset that 'bitter' taste. YUUUUUMMMMS! So if you love red wine and dark chocolate like I do, you have to try this wine! Bottoms up! ;) read more

Great selection of Wine and Spirits. It's obviously not as big as Total Wine and More, but here, you can find what you want quickly and easily and get out. And since it's not a GIANT warehouse, you can browse without feeling too overwhelmed. The reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the friendly staff. I have been coming to this location for about 10 yrs and sad to say that will never return again due to my experience yesterday. I had purchased a wine that tasted awful, so I did bring the two unopened bottles back to the store. In the past, it has never been a problem to exchange. I went on to select a few more bottles, taking advantage of their 5 cent sale. There was only one register open (on a Friday evening) and few people waiting. The manager Eddie B. turns up, opens a second register without offering not only a "thanks for waiting", or a smile but directing everyone to "stay where they are", meaning one line, and he will call the next one. It's my turn, and I present my receipt for the two bottles to return and put the new (10 bottles) on the counter. He tells me he can't take the bad wine back, because it has been more than 7 days after I purchased it. I politely explain that I read the bottom of the receipt and it only states that "returns made within & days with a valid receipt will be refunded to the original form of payment", and I wasn't asking for that. Also pointing out, that this has never been the case in the past asking if this was a new policy. The answer was "No, it has always been the policy, plus I am the one authorizing all returns and I have been here for a year, so I know this has always been the case". I calmly explained that this doesn't make sense to me. How are you expected to taste everything you purchase within 7 days in order to find out if it is good. Especially wine, for many reasons I don't have to describe. He looked at me and my 10 bottles and said " Well, since you are over purchasing, none of those will be refundable". He proceeded to send me to the ABC website to check the California law. He stop short of giving me the AA phone number. I was in lost of words! Over purchasing?! The cockiness of this guy is what did it. I have been a loyal customer for so many years and never felt so unappreciated and disrespected. I ended up trashing the two bottles in the bin in front of the store. It was never about the money. Horrible customer service! Contacted VN store Mgr who said they should accept it with the attached label/purchase validation from the VN store. He offered to call Encino to explain. Th Encino rep was insistent they would not handle this transaction. Extremely POOR customer service. Bevmo needs to look at the quality of people in Encino. The manager came over after I told her to call him and then she proceeded to berate me while other masked customers observed this fiasco. I love this store and stock up for all of my get togethers or gifts here. Not just because it is local but because the people here are always friendly and personable. The manager Mike, has always been helpful when I'm looking to try a smooth scotch or nice cab. Very few times have I come in and not found what I was looking for and on those rare occasions, the item is quickly ordered for me and arrives super fast. Prices are also comparable to other markets and never any issue with parking like at the Burbank location which is a complete nightmare. BevMo Encino is the only place I go for liquor. read more

Having said that, my main concern is that the selection is too varied for its own good. Many of the items I considered buying were covered in dust. I pointed out a couple of expired items to an employee. One 6 pack had a Best Before date from 2016. I don't think the inventory turnover for much of the beer selection lends itself to fresh product.
