This is the store where I popped my Bevmo cherry about a year and a half ago. I used to pass by on El Camino quite often, and by looking in the windows I thought it was a beverage glassware supply store that also carried some actual beverages, including the alcoholic variety. When I finally ventured INTO this Bevmo, it wasn't until after I'd checked out their website. This is a great idea to do before going...you can see what they have in stock, even order it ahead and pay for it ahead if you like, and best of all you can get user and expert reviews of everything. This really helped me to pick some good beer. Thank you Bevmo member website beer reviewers! The wine selection is nothing to write home about...they are good about putting up descriptions and ratings if the wine is rated, and you can find something decent if you look hard enough. They have a good champagne selection and some interesting dessert wines, it's just that K&L Wines is nearby and so is Savvy Cellar, and you could get something better sold by people who know more about wines at either of those places. So, entering Bevmo RWC for the first time, I found it was huge and it had tons of wine and beer, plus a small selection of cheeses, crackers, miscellaneous snacks, glassware and some spirits. Despite my impression from the outside, the glassware is what they have the least of. In fact, I now know this is actually very small for a Bevmo. The staff here is very helpful and generally nice, but for some reason they always have a delay at the register, like an item isn't scanning in properly or somebody needs a box or needs 7 more of something or somebody bought a gazillion of something that needs to be very carefully wrapped or whatever and I have to wonder why, when they obviously have several employees working in the store who are so eager to help you BEFORE you get to the register, someone else can't come and ring on the other register to get people out of there faster. If you sign up for a Bevmo membership online, you can use your phone number to get a Bevmo discount in the store, which can sometimes save you a lot of moolah. Of course I have noticed that BevMo wines will often be several bucks more expensive than the list price, so maybe it's not so much that you save money by using the card as you don't overpay when you use the card on an item that is on special, and you are paying too much for everything else. If you're coming here by car, it can be a little awkward. Like, you can't turn left right there on El Camino, or if you're coming from the east you have to find your way around the Caltrain tracks. If I were like, Queen of Redwood City, I would decree that they move this store to Sequoia Plaza right where there is currently a Dress Barn. I was buying wine for an event, and I had purchased twice at the Burlingame store previously, but I needed to buy more product. There were two of us and I had 2 coupons for $10 of $75 and I was separating 2 orders so I could use them. Even though we had 2 Bevmo accounts, the woman who was closing said I couldn't use the 2nd coupon so I declined to purchase the second order of around $90. I asked to get another box and she said they would not allow me to take another box due to the remodel. This was for an event and I needed a box that covered the top. I thought it was ridiculous considering the service I received in Burlingame and then Menlo Park the next day. I also went to San Mateo and they were so nice to help me find the item I was looking for. The Bevmo people were very friendly and helpful at those other stores and they let me pick the boxes I needed to fit the wine bottles. It was just really poor service and attitude. I will never go back to the Redwood City store after this experience. Poor management and customer service which gives a bad reputation to Bevmo. read more

A few weeks before a big event, after we'd ordered wine from specific wineries, our caterer told us she thought we'd need more wine to make sure we had enough. She recommend we buy from BevMo because in her experience, they'll take back unopened bottles as long as there is no damage to the labels (ie. from sitting in ice water). Before buying anything, we asked multiple stores about this, and were always told the same thing - returns are no problem. Today, we went to this specific BevMo location to return the unopened, undamaged wine that we didn't use, and were told they couldn't take it back. Flat out no. Because we said it was an "overpurchase" they wouldn't take it. The store representative we spoke with told us that if we'd come in and said we didn't like it, he would have taken it as a return. But because of the specific word we used, he refused to return it and suggested we go to another BevMo location and just don't tell them it was an overpurchase. Uhh...what...? If you're hosting a party, this is the place. At least, that's the reason for the last two times I came here. I was here relatively early on a Saturday morning, and asked to speak with the most knowledgeable wine expert on the floor. It was the tail end of their famous 5-cent sale (essentially a 2 for 1 wine sale) and I got some help and advice about wines for an upcoming Halloween party. In hindsight, the advice was very good in one case and only OK with the other, which is pretty much better than what you should expect for a big box store. I also got some help picking out other stuff for the party. It's amazing what you get when you ask. The staff was very friendly and seemed to really enjoy helping me think through my beverage needs. I will definitely go back to BevMo here in Redwood City, particularly for the next 5-cent sale, and will try and get there before the wines have all been picked over. read more

This is a surprisingly good Bevmo location for being so small. They have a *very* solid selection of beer ( found my expensive but much loved six packs of Ballast Point Sculpin here ), and a wider selection of liquor than some stores. It can be a bit cramped, but I'll take that over poor selection any day of the week. Pricing is the usual Bevmo - decent but not great unless it's on sale. They sometimes do unusually good tastings here. Ever since drinking a czech beer called "ZATEC" for the first time in my life while i visited the wine bar "BIN 38" in SF, I yearned for this beer. I knew whole foods usually had a huge beer selection and the city beer store on Folsom also has some hard to find micro brews too. To no surprise these stores heard of "Zatec" beer but neither of them carried it. I decided to go to this store here in redwood city and looked at the numerous shelves of stocked beer and found it. This will now be the only place I buy the tasty micro-beers at. I still shop at safeway for the typical americanized beers of the bars today but the "hard to find" beers I will continue to think of Bev-Mo First. read more

So I stopped by today with my friend that happened to be 20 years old and I was getting a 24 pack of modelos and a bottle of Smirnoff I go up to the counter and the guy seems like he hates his life and the fact he has to ring me up rolled his eyes at me and everything and then he proceeds to ask for ID which I happily take out but my friend informs him that she's not of age so he's like I can't sell you anything bc she's underage to which I responded well I'm the one buying it so what's the issue and he said well she was walking around the store with you and talking about alcohol and I said well ok but I've came here before with my 13 year old niece to buy hard liquor even 3-4 bottles at a time and never had a problem and she was never asked for ID and they both look the same age wise and then he said well that's our policy I'm like ok so if she goes and waits in the car or I just come back later I can buy it then since she won't be with me in the store and he said nope I can't sell you anything anymore now or later and I was like ok so if she came in with me and stood with you here at the entrance by the registers it would've been fine since you said one of the problems was she walked around with me and he said nope still wouldn't sell it to you and I just proceeded to walk out. I simple went down the street to Safeway bought the same thing and my friend even helped me carry it out and was never asked for ID, it's just plain dumb like what if I was a dad and had my 10 year old kid with me since he's not of age I can't buy anything bc I'm also not leaving him in the car alone. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I have been trying for months and months to get a bottle of specific bourbon for my husband. I havent had any luck in getting it. Everytime the staff tells me to go online and have it notify me when it's back in stock....but the bottle I'm looking for isnt even a bottle that is listed on their site. I have asked them to show me while I'm in store how to do that, since I am unable to find it on their site...theur response every time is that they haven't personally tried it themselves but I should be able to. Yesterday I called I was told they had what I was looking for but that they hadn't received a price from corporate yet so they couldn't sell it, but that they would be selling it tomorrow (now today) and she would take my name and number and call me. I went this morning and she was annoyed that I came in and told me "no I told you I would call you - we can't sell it yet". Then when I asked when she thought I would be able to, she changed her story and said that all the bottles were spoken for....so which is it? Is it not available for purchase yet or Have you already sold all of them and they are all spoken for?? I'm 100% convinced that the staff here just keeps the hard to find allocated bottles for themselves. They were so rude when I went in today, and the fact of the matter is it's totally fine if they're all actually sold, but every time I ask the story changes. read more

They have a lot of choice of alcohol and beverages. It's good enough. but cashiers are not professional. they ask ID for non-alcohol beverages. even you buy red bull you have to show your ID. last time they didn't give me red bull (of course it is NON ALCOHOL) without ID. I explained them so i stayed in the line about 10 minutes because of a single red bull and it is not alcohol drink but still they didn't want listen me and they sent me out from their horrible place. read more

Very cramped store, with boxes on the ground, low ceilings, and narrow aisles. I much prefer the one in Mountain View. Still a pretty good selection, but the Mountain View location had a few more choices. Also, Bevmo's prices on some beers are higher than Whole Foods. Yes, Whole Foods has a lower selection, but I'd figure the beer store would be cheaper. read more

Does California actually have real beverage retailers/wholesalers? Back east, we don't have a chain version of the likes of BevMo! We have individually owned stores everywhere that actually carries a variety of beverages. The other day, I decided to check out BevMo! in two different locations, and they both disappoint me in major ways. First is the name BevMo! which is a short version of Beverages and More! Every time I end a sentence with this name it makes me feel angrier than I really am. Next is the lack of beverage selections and a shitload of alcohols. Finally, the problem with this place is why they have so many shopping carts when you can't even move them around? It's bad enough that the isles are filled with glass bottles. Maybe they should change the name to SomeSodasButMostlyAlcohol! Granted that California is dope as hell when it comes to liquor. I mean you guys carry all kinds of soon-to-end-up-on-YouTube inducing contents anywhere you can purchase foods and also Snuggies on impulse. This you clearly cannot do back east. But BevMo! is messed up. Real conversation below: Me: You guys carry any iced tea? I need wholesale amounts. BevHomo: (points at the fridge carrying coke). Checked their website, says open until 9pm. Called the store to double check and they had a recording that said open until 9pm. Got in my car and drove down there and they have a sign on the door saying we close at 7pm. Not the first bad experience I've had with this store. Shopping the 5-cent sale was the best wedding prep idea we had. The tastings are cheap and on the day of the 5-cent sale you get to taste the wines on sale. The day we went, the person administering the tasting was very well-versed in the wines and helped us pick out the perfect set of wines for our wedding! We also got 2 beer kegs from bevmo for a pretty good price. The only issue was that the tap wasn't working for one of them. I'm sad to say that we had to use the same tap for both kegs and we didn't get to finish the larger (and better) keg since it was the one with the broken tap (I don't know if the tap was broken by our caterer or if it came that way). The selection of wines here is really good though, I only wish the liquors were as diverse! read more

My boyfriend and I have the apartment all to ourselves for the entire weekend. We opted out of the usual Saturday night date out, and instead planned a drunken slumber party in. I can't usually get my boyfriend to drink, but last night he was up for it! First stop: BevMo! This is my first experience with the BevMo chain- I'm used to buying my alky from the local liquor store or super market. BevMo is a chain store that offers discounts on certain items if you join their club, which is free. This particular store is stocked with quite the variety of wine, hard alcohol, beer, and some snackies. Because of the large selection it took some searching to find the Bailey's, but I guess it was worth it because it was on sale! The older man who checked us out was really helpful and patient with our BevMo ignorance, and signed us up for the cool club (which, as he explained, offers a significant 5% reduction on any purchase you make once you earn 250 points). If ever we finish what we bought and need more, I'll probably just go to the most convenient liquor store. But, if I can't find a certain type of alcohol there, I'll definitely give BevMo a try. read more

Good selection and stock for the space they are in, but as has been mentioned before this store is a little smaller than other BevMo's, so things are a little tighter than usual. They have a decent selection of domestic and foreign wines, including some nice labels you don't see in other places. What draws me to this location is the Sprecher sodas - some of the best root beer, cream soda, orange soda, etc. on the planet. I was a little disappointed that they were out of the root beer (it's not back ordered, I called the distributor), and they only carry two of the flavors. BevMo is the kind of place you go to if you know exactly what you want, and are already sure that they carry it. The quality of staff is too variable to have any assurances that you will receive competent and professional assistance. Also, considering the high turnover with staff positions at places like BevMo, it is very difficult to give the staff at any given location an effective review, since there is a very good chance that the staff member you are reviewing has moved on to another job. This location seems to be like just about every other BevMo I've tried. The selection is decent, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is hit-and-miss. If you want a much better overall selection, comparable prices, and to be assured that you are dealing with competent and professional staff, I would suggest going to Beltramo's in Menlo Park. There is one caveat: the beer section at BevMo tends to be larger than Beltramo's. However, Beltramo's does carry several selections you can't find at BevMo. read more

Compared to other BevMo! locations that I have been too, this one is actually pretty good. They have a decent selection of a variety of products, the store is large enough that it is easy to navigate around the aisles with a cart, and the staff is relatively friendly; they usually say something like, "Hi" when I walk in the door, which is more of a greeting than I am used to.. "We have both kinds of rum, Bacardi and Captain Morgan." There seems to be a dearth of specialty liquor stores in California, and the general availability of good rum is dangerously low for any civilized society, but the situation is not quite as bad here. The prices on some items are better at Target, but getting there is a longer walk for me, so...there's that. read more

What a phenomenal selection! My boyfriend and I always end up going here to find specialty wines. The staff is always very helpful and if you don't see it on the shelf, they'll look it up in the computer and help you find it as quickly as possible. STAY AWAY! That's about the only thing I can say about this place. Notwithstanding so many good reviews I must say that they are the most discourteous people I have ever encountered! The guy at the counter was rude and couldn't, or shall I say, refused to understand my query - all I wanted was to go get some more items so that I could use my discount card. Simple yes? Actually at Bevmo (Redwood city) it can turn into a nightmare and had happened second time in a row. So this time, I politely asked for someone who could understand / speak better English and was refused service for doing so.
