BevMo is BevMo. It's a chain store. The prices are universal. Therefore, the way that I find that this BevMo location distinguishes itself is with its friendly staff. There is very often someone to greet you as soon as you enter the BevMo location, and that person also offers to assist you. BevMo does not always have what I want and does not always have the best prices. But I know that this staff is friendly and will do it's best to try and help you. If you know your pricing then stay away. Especially for their buy two-second one for five cents. Problem is these wines are just private labels made by major wineries and Bevmo jacks up the price on the first bottle (like 200 percent) to cover the .05 cent second bottle. read more

This is a decent place to buy wine, beer, or spirits. They have a variety of snacks and other stuff, including cigars. The prices on wine are generally full retail; it's uncommon to find any great deals on truly good wine. Yes, they have that 5-cent sale thing, but to be honest, the wines they feature are rarely wines of distinction (regardless of what Wilfred Wong says...). More on Wilfred Wong: As best I can tell, he works for BevMo (?). I consider it a severe conflict of interest when someone is both trying to sell you wine, and give you an unbiased, critical opinion of the same wine. Caveat emptor. Generally, the staff don't know about wines. I'm sure there are exceptions, but one example might illustrate this idea: I was browsing the wines one day, and a woman said to a BevMo staff person, "I'm looking for something like a Burgundy..." The staffer replied to her by turning, grabbing the nearest bottle of wine, which was a Chianti. Now, sure, some Chianti might vaguely resemble Burgundy, but a more reasonable reply might have been, "Well, how about a Burgundy? Maybe a California Pinot Noir? Or one from Oregon?" Another time, I called up the shop asking if they had a particular beer in stock, the Abyss by Deschutes, which comes out in November or early December each year. The person with whom I spoke told me that did not have it in stock. I asked if they were going to get it, since I'd bought it there the prior year. She replied, "Well, we don't have it in stock right now..." I repeated the question. She repeated her answer. I asked then if she or anyone with whom she worked might be able to tell me. She repeated her answer a third time, and told me that there was "no way to know." I find this hard to believe, and assume that it's simply a lack of interest in helping the customer... Overall, an OK place to buy wine if you don't much care what you pay, or pay much attention to what you're drinking... IMHO. read more

Good selection, very poor customer service. Ive bought a few wine bottles there, ok selection and price. However, I had problems over the last week with BevMo. I placed an order for kegs for a BBQ. I called to today to check on the status: they had no recollection of my order and it had not been placed yet. When I gave the employee the name of the person I ordered the kegs from last week she said, "He is not in again til Friday, you will have to call back later in the week." She made no offer to try and fix the issue, take my phone number, and call back with a solution. There was a manager working during that time. When I asked to speak with him, she said "He is busy and wants me to handle this issue." I understand mistakes happen, but I think a business should be more interested in fixing them for a customer when they do occur, and not just tell the costumer to "call back later." I will not shop here again. read more

I come here to buy hard to find craft beer. They sell some of my favorite beers here, Firestone Parabola, Avery Maharaja, Oskar Blues Ten Fidy, etc. The space in the store is really limited so the aisles are really narrow. So narrow I recommend walking around this store sideways otherwise some booze might be knocked over since there are bottles and cases stacked in places in what should be open space. And yes don't scare anyone in this place because it might result in a major party foul. read more

Meh. This BevMo is pretty small. We usually frequent the La Mesa store, but were in the area and decided to check this location for the beer I wanted. They didn't have it, but were nice enough to check their computer for us and send us to a store that did have what I was looking for. Which was our normal La Mesa store. Okay. read more

BevMo has a fairly large selection of bottles of beer, however I wish there were more options for a cold beer. Some days you just want to grab a sixer and go home and drink it so this location requires me to plan ahead. LOVE the BevMo! This was always my go-to liquor store in San Diego. Fairly easy to get to, located right off I-8, BevMo is in a large plaza, and as long as you don't go on a Friday or Saturday night, there's plenty of parking available (The numerous restaurants in the same plaza consume a TON of parking). I wish this BevMo was as large as the many other BevMo's in the Southern California area, but you still get an unbelievable selection of liquor/wine/beer for the small space. They literally have everything you would need for a party- all the booze, mixers, kegs, party supplies, even cheeses, all in one place! My favorite is the beer selection, all organized by country of origin- and an entire aisle of craft brews. I LOVE Karl Strauss and it can be sometimes difficult to find their beers in local grocery stores- BevMo stocks them all! Plus tons of singles if you're looking to branch out and try new beers. Definitely join ClubBev when they ask- it's free. Takes five minutes to fill out your info- and after a few purchases at any BevMo, you get a coupon for 5% off your next purchase. They also give you a heads up on the 5 cent wine sale, which could be the greatest thing ever (if I drank wine). Buy one bottle of wine, get a second for five cents- you can't beat that! Again, I love the BevMo, it was always my liquor store of choice in San Diego- just wish it was a little bit bigger like the other stores- but you can definitely wet your whistle in this little gem. I placed an order on line. It took 48 hours for them to acknowledge, but at least they promised delivery the next day through GSO (Golden State Overnight) because alcohol deliveries are prohibited through FedEx and UPS. The delivery driver lied about attempting delivery! The door was wide open, and The recipient works from home! Now the delivery won't be made on time as this was to be a birthday gift! Very disappointed in BevMo for choosing to hire GSO. Very bad customer service, and drivers that lie (check their YELP reviews). Oh, they apologized, but they wouldn't even attempt to deliver again until the following week! Had BevMo refund my entire order, but my son won't have a gift on his birthday! read more

I hit up this BevMo all the time because it's between my house and my job - how convenient! From what I've heard, this is the smallest of all the BevMos in the area, and it is definitely cramped. You can't walk up any of the aisles with a basket or cart if there's anyone else in that aisle. The selection is pretty good, but at any given time, at least half of the displays are missing the price tags and description. Every single time I go, I have to take something up to the front for a price check because there's no description to be found. On that same note, this place always looks like they're in the midst of a major remodel - especially the beer section - because of the cramped quarters. Most of the employees are fantastic though, and the prices and selection are decent. Not the most ringing endorsement, but you could do worse. read more

5 cent wines all the time? I'm loving this! This was only my 2nd time visiting this location and it is easy to find and get what you need. The staff here are very helpful and engaging. I was able to pick up a bottle of flavored sake for under $10. I am a fan of stocking up on wines from the 5 cent sale...especially when you find a wine you really like (but if you pick up a bottle you don't like..no worries! The best thing about this place if you drink wine is the 5 cent sale they have either monthly or bi monthly I can't remember. But you get a 14.99 bottle then get a 2nd one for 5 cents which is a steal. They've got all sorts of wine, liquor and beer here I usually get the wine when it's on sale and if it's good I'll go back before the sale ends and stock up on what tastes good. read more

Ok, so I'm not really a drinker, but I do every once in a while will partake in some liquid libations. And when I do, I will usually go to one of the BevMos first, just cause it is very handy and easy to drop on by and find what you are looking for. This one is no exception, a bit on the smaller side, probably due to it's location. I find that the one in Point Loma is bigger and better stocked. But this one is in the heart of Mission Valley. It has all your basic needs for wines, beers, and hard liquor as well. Nothing fancy most of the time, but just basic. They also have a lot of snacks, cups, glasses and anything else you might need to make a drink, or have a party. The customer service here is quite good, as they greet you as you walk in. And they are very helpful if you are looking for something in particular. Parking is bear, and the spaces are physically narrow and tight. But if you have tiny cars like we do then it is just fine. But SUV's will find it hard to fit. I also love that right in front of the store, they have special 10 or 15 minutes parking spaces. So for you budding alcoholics it's very easy to get your fix, as long as you know where it is in the store. All in all a good Bev Mo, there are better and there are worse ones. read more

Bevmo has every type of liquor that you won't be able to find in other supermarkets and stores. I usually buy a rare tequila that i love and most stores dont carry it. I also have come to realize that since they have pretty much anything you are looking for in drinks, they can name their price on most stuff that other stores don't carry i would give them 5 stars but i have rarely come across my go to drinks in other stores and they were significantly cheaper. Bevmo is still my go to place but if i see another store carrying what im looking for ill check prices first. read more

To me this place is just a classy liquor store. This place can get pretty busy too, especially at night. PLUSs. They have a huge selection of hard to find and high end liquors. My biggest complaint is the prices. Yes they have a discount card (similar to a grocery store) but I've found that COSTCO blows this place out of the water. I love the 5 cent sale at BevMo. Been a customer for many years. Great to stock up for holiday parties and visiting friends. The staff here are very knowledgeable and have suggested more than a few times some amazing wine for me to try. The selection is fantastic. The only thing about this location is the parking can be crazy and they can run out of some of the great deals during the 5 cent sale a bit fast. I get Nigori here in the large bottle for $12 bucks. They charge $20 for a small bottle of the same sake at many sushi places. They do have good prices year round. read more

I don't write reviews, this is actually my first, but I had to vent in some way my disappointment in this store. Usually they have the best selection of beer. I can pop in and grab a regular favorite or try something new...I'll shop there once, sometimes twice, a month and I always leave with more than I intended to buy. But the last two times I've been there I've left empty handed. It seems like they're just not trying to be a a "Go-To" store for craft beer...If I wanted most of the shelves and coolers stocked with macros I'd just go to the gas station. Maybe they are focusing on wine or they have new management or just gave up on beer. Sorry Bevmo, either go back to being that "Go-To" store for craft beer or keep losing customers. read more

Bad customer service, beware when you buy online of the quality (packaging, vintage, etc). The staff specially at the San Diego - Mission Valley location will give you any taped up product they have. Their resolutions to broken or problem items leaves a lot to be desired. I have been a customer for a long time so I was surprised at how products at pick up differ from when you select in store. This store is hella cool in terms of selection. Unfortunately, it's not hella cool to shop at on a busy Friday or Saturday evening. The place is jam packed with people and the aisles are a little crowded, so you feel claustrophobic at times. Also, despite the awesome selection, there are a lot of limitations. For example, with many of the German beers, they only sell them individually by the bottle, and not a 6 pack or a case. This makes them very expensive when compared to Trader Joe's. As for the wines, hit or miss selection there as well. My friend was trying to find a case of budweiser, and they only had bud light, so we ended up having to go to yet another store to get all the stuff we wanted. Needless to say this place is not my favorite... Plus parking in that shopping center is a royal pain. I think I would give them 3* if they were in a more accessible location. Plus, the prices... Well Trader Joes and Costco are usually cheaper. read more

terrible service! called in advance for a specific beer and a girl told me they have 3 6 pack so i was so excited i told her to put 2 to the side for me. Once i got there i ask someone for help which happen to be the girl i spoke to and she informed me that she forgot to pull them and put it to the side. so she walk over with us and just guess what. NO BEER! she looked and in the same spot like 3 times as if it was going magically appear. than checked the back. NADA and than the Manager looked in the same spot and he never approach us to say sorry even tho we were standing right next to him. So i had to ask "are you the manager and he said yes." i complain to him and told him that this isnt fair i called in advance to see if you guys had it and i was informed wrong. he told me "we dont have it" a little rude but just not willing to work with us at all. Wasnt talkative or anything. Terrible place. terrible service. San Diego is the Mecca for beer and brewery so this corporation needs to get there act together because i will def. they currently have buy one get another one for only 5 cents which is an amazing deal . this place does have a lot of different choices for beer, wine, whiskey. however i've noticed that the prices maybe a lit bit higher than regular market or liquor stores. cuz the wine like cupcakes and the beer like stone IPA are overpriced here. but if you are looking for something special this is definitely the right place. read more
