Fried Tofu (Fried Tofu (Vegetarian/Vegan) - Watcha bowl Fried Kimchi
    Rhona G.

The first time I tried kimbap was a frozen version from a grocery store. Now no longer - fresh is best!!! Bibimmate is where to get freshly handmade with great care and love. The sauces are delish! The tofu bowl is so good but wish it was a larger portion. Fried kimchi is also delicious with great flavor and so healthy good for you. Ordering online is easy. There is parking when it's not rush hour times for pick up. Pick up is easy in the food hall and there are plenty of seats if you need to wait. Your order is either on the shelf If the gate is open, or just ask by ringing the bell or the person at the gate.

i ordered the spicy beef kimbop and the yuzu drink. Everything was super yummy and I really liked the aïoli sauce! We will definitely be ordering again.

I tried the tuna kimbap and spicy beef bowl here a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed the food. Everything tasted yummy and healthy! The owner who handed me the food was very nice and provided excellent service. Definitely a good local spot for a casual meal.

Tuna Mayo kimbap, Jjang-a-jji, Ssamjang Aioli Sauce

Stumbled upon them on DoorDash during a work lunch break and visited their instagram page to find they're new in town! Decided to give them a try and my stomach is so happy I did. Their kimbaps taste vibrant, fresh, and comforting. A healthy, tasty, AND affordable meal means I'll be a regular customer. Ordered the tuna mayo kimbap and jjang-a-jji, both complimenting each other. The sweet and savory crisp radish and onion slices with a little pickled kick, pairs great with rich flavors of the kimbap itself. The ssamjang aioli that comes with the kimbap is perfectly nutty and sweet, great dipping sauce. While we don't know if it's a Korean halmeoni in the back working her magic, the food is filled with love and tastes like home. Don't skip this place!

This is the freshest kimbap we've ever had. We ordered the beef, tuna, and crab--all three were excellent. We also got some of the cucumbers, which were so fresh. Nothing was overly seasoned or overpowering. Delivery was also smooth. My kids inhaled these rolls within minutes!

We came by at around 8:30 on a weeknight, and we were sat right away. The small restaurant is designed like your typical loungey club-like Korean drinking spot, with dark walls, simple decor, and vibey music. Bar food and Korean staples are the name of the game here at Chingu, so that's exactly what we got. I got a dolsot bibimbap, which is the hot stone pot mixed rice, and my friend got the Korean Fried Chicken, opting for a combination one with two flavors. I think Korean Fried Chicken has been solved, because the average chicken I have at these places is pretty stellar in general. Great thing to get if you want something tried and true. I also really liked my bibimbap. Pretty standard stuff, with bean sprouts, mushrooms, bulgogi, carrots, etc. Something super familiar that I think most folks would be totally cool with! We're not huge drinkers, but that would be THE thing to do here too, so if you're hankering, this is the spot for you!

If you're coming here, I'd recommend going with a group so you can order more dishes and try everything. Here's what we ordered: Daeho Kalbijim (braised beef ribs): signature dish, completely lived up to the hype. The beef ribs were incredibly tender, having absorbed all of the seasoning. It's of course my favorite dish of the night. Suyuk (beef combination, includ brisket and oxtail etc). Beef was very tender, and the broth was light so that you can actually taste the natural flavor of the beef. Japchae: Another restaurant's popular dish, noodles was very well-seasoned Bulgogi Dolsot Bibimbap: also delicious and generous portions! The amount of food was just right for our group of five. They are located on a busy main street but the parking garage is just a block away. They have a Yelp waitlist but it wasn't even available when we came. Thankfully we were able to beat the lunch rush and got a table for 7 pretty quickly. They were trying to squish us into a small table for 6 which definitely would not have worked with all of the dishes and banchan, so I'm glad that we only had to wait a few extra minutes for a larger space. Service was quick so you can tell that they are really being mindful of turnover during these busy times. It's best to just order family style here if you have a large party. We picked 5 dishes (double of the kalbijjim): - Kalbijjim: this is a MUST whenever you come to Daeho! They have different types or meats but we went with the original braised short rib, with added rice cake and cheese. They advertise this as enough for 2-3 people which is pretty accurate. It looks very large when it comes out but the amount of actual meat is sufficient for 2-3 people, hence why we ordered two of them for our group. - Hae Mul Pajeon: the seafood pancake is also another go-to here. I love their house sauce. Ask for it extra crispy! - Modeum Seolleong Tang: they are also well known for their ox bone soup. The broth is nice and I know a lot of work goes into it, but it's not a go-to item for me personally, since it's just a little bit more on the plain/pure side. - Daeho Kal Guksu: this is the knife cut noodle soup with beef, clam, and egg. I liked this soup better than the seolleongtang. The noodles were nicely cooked and it just had a little bit more flavor for me. I like their banchan selection, and love that they offer purple rice or white rice. Such a delicious meal here and can't wait to return!

What I had: Yuk hwe (beef tartare with pears and egg yolk): If you're hesitant about raw beef, please don't be. It's honestly just like eating sashimi. Wagyu meat was incredibly tender, sweet, and melted in my mouth. It was mixed with some kind of seasoning sauce and egg yolk, so savory and addictive I couldn't stop. Highly recommend you should try it if you can eat raw food Bossam: Great but I found it a bit too fatty (meat-to-fat ratio was like 50:50 ). My favorite way to eat was wrapping it in lettuce with garlic (extraaa), jalapeno, kimchi, and ssamjang. It also went well with rice. Big bite was super satisfying Galbi tang: Something we ordered to balance things out (2 previous dishes was just heavy), and it was a perfect decision. The soup was light, clean, and deeply comforting. Beef short ribs were super tender. I like to eat with a big spoon, ribs, rice, kimchi then dipped in the warm soup, perfect!!! Our meal came with the standard banchan and tea. The bibimbap was served surprisingly cold and didn't leave much of an impression. It was fairly standard overall, though I did appreciate that the gochujang and sesame oil were served separately, allowing diners to adjust the flavor to their preference. The leek pancake was one of the better dishes we tried. It had a nice balance of textures, with a slightly crispy exterior while the leeks remained soft and tender. The galbi tang included jujubes, which is something I don't see very often. However, the soup itself was underwhelming. There were barely any noodles, and the broth had an off-putting flavor that came across as somewhat fishy. The tofu soup was decent but fairly standard and not particularly memorable. On the other hand, the hotteok was excellent! It was warm, comforting, and generously filled, making it one of the highlights of the meal. The restaurant itself is very spacious, so finding seating isn't an issue. While the service was excellent and a few dishes stood out, the overall dining experience wasn't worth a return visit for me :-(

The concept of having Korean food cooked in a robotic food truck is interesting to me. Since the food was catered, unfortunately I was unable to see the robots cooking in action, but fortunately was able to taste the final products. I was able to try the Wagyu galbi (short ribs), dak galbi (marinated chicken), Seoul food bowl (stir-fried pork belly and shrimp), and japchae, served with their corn salad, kimchi, and white rice. The Wagyu galbi was very flavorful with a good amount of vegetables; though I enjoyed the inclusion of lotus root, the veggies seemed like borderline filler to skimp out on meat. The dak galbi was also flavorful though spicy, and again the inclusion of rice cakes seemed like filler. The pork belly and shrimp were delicious, and I liked that the pieces of pork belly I had didn't have an overpowering amount of fat. The japchae was pretty standard and was nice to balance out the meat. I enjoyed the corn salad because it added a creamy component to my meal. The kimchi got lost in the mixture of food in my bowl and the rice was cooked perfectly by the robot. Overall, I enjoyed the food prepared by OLHSO Truck. Unfortunately, since the food was catered and already prepared when I arrived, I cannot comment on the service or wait times provided by the staff. I would consider ordering food from the truck if I am craving Korean fusion type of food and am too lazy to dine in at a local Korean restaurant. If the food from the truck is a good representation of the restaurant in downtown San Mateo, I am more inclined to try the restaurant for a nice sit down dining experience.

The servers typically come out to the folks closest to the front of the line and hand them menus so they can decide what they want before being seated. When it is not as busy, you can walk in directly and request a table. The shop itself actually has a lot of seating, but there is always an influx of people, so it fills up quickly. The interior gives off a nice modern Japanese chic vibe. :) They also offer outdoor patio seating, which is great if you are trying to enjoy a nice day outside. I have tried both their Wagyu Roast Beef Aburasoba and their Soboro Aburasoba. The roast beef is tender and adds a nice chew against the silky noodles, while the soboro chicken is juicy and coats your mouth with a savory soy flavor. This place is definitely worth a try! If you can go on a weekday before the dinner rush from people getting off their 9-5 jobs, that would probably be the optimal time frame.
