My BF and I love 10 Butchers but Sunnyvale is super far from SF so we thought Olhso could be a good alternative. We ordered the Olhso Classic set for 2-3 and a seafood pancake as an appetizer. I honestly don't see this set feeding 3 people unless you have a very small appetite. If you choose the table grill option, your server will cook everything at your table over a gas grill (not charcoal unfortunately). Each cut of meat was great and grilled to perfection by our server, Seymus! My favorite cuts were the Rib Finger and Outside Skirt (both marinated). Seymus walked us through their recommended sauces/sides for each cut and they paired really well! My favorite was the Yuzu Wasabi. We ordered the soondubu as our complimentary stew from the set and it might be one of the best soondubus we've had! The stew had a deep beef-y flavor and had a lot of beef. We also enjoyed the seafood pancake as well but thought that it could be a bit crispier. The banchan were just okay. 10 Butchers changes their banchan seasonally and they feel more *premium*. Overall, Olhso is a pretty good alternative to 10 Butchers on the Peninsula but I still think 10 Butchers is a bit better. Definitely recommend booking in advance and for the live grill experience, whereby they grill the meats to perfection for you. Service was fast and welcoming, with our server taking care of every cut and dish with care, ensuring our waters were full, banchan were refilled, and making sure we didn't need anything else. The seafood pancake was just ok; it was a bit crumbly although there was plenty of seafood bits. Meats were delicious and of great quality! Loved the seaweed soup on the house for celebrating birthdays here. I wish the banchan had more variety of flavors as majority were picked/sour and we were hoping for more savory or non-vinegary side dishes. I really wanted to like this place given the legendary Chef Ahn from culinary class wars has visited several times. The service is extremely slow and the servers don't explain the items or how to cook them. The meat is fresh but the sauces and soup are very one-note. While definitely on the pricier end for KBBQ, the quality of both the food and service speaks for itself. My family came here to celebrate Father's Day and managed to snag a 7:00 PM reservation with a grill table. We ordered the Olhso Signature Set and were pleasantly surprised to find that soondubu was included as a complimentary stew option with the combo. Since the set only included beef, we also added an order of pork belly to get the best of both worlds. One thing I really appreciated was how the staff recommended the best way to enjoy each cut of meat, including what sauces and accompaniments paired well with them. It elevated the entire dining experience and helped us appreciate the different flavors even more. My favorite cuts were probably the boneless short rib and the sliced oxtail (I've never had it like this before) but honestly I loved all the cuts we had haha. I also loved the yuzu wasabi they served - I wish they could give me a container of some to bring home! The restaurant is pretty spacey with large tables so that groups aren't all squished together like a can of sardines. It has a nice and relaxing feel to it which added to the experience. A special shoutout to Paul, who took incredible care of us throughout the evening. We never felt rushed and were able to take our time cooking, eating, and enjoying the meal together. Just stopped for dinner this evening and enjoyed a delicious meal. We were promptly seated and were welcomed into a space with interactive projections on the wall. The ambiance and music were perfect. A great mix in r&b and hip hop and clean decor. Our table had a spread of banchan awaiting us and did not disappoint. We were greeted by our server/chef Seymus and after some deliberating we opted for the Ohlso Signature. Our selection of meats came out beautifully presented and Seymus moved quickly to be begin cooking (yes, if you're at a grill table, someone on their staff will cook your meats for you). You can also opt for the kitchen menu which has food prepared in the kitchen. Came on a weekend and it wasn't busy however they were unfortunately short staffed that day and so we had to wait a bit. The server cooks for you here and each piece is cooked perfectly according to cut. I loved the sides they provide: shiso, lettuce, radish, kimchi, bean sprouts, dipping sauce etc. We ordered one set of wagyu beef and one of pork and both sets were delicious. All the cuts were good and we didn't need to order additional. The soups were also very rich and so tasty! The server/owner was very nice and patient with us. My experience here was certainly a mixed bag. Made a dinner reservation and when we arrived on time were made to wait for 15 minutes before a table cleared for us which didn't really feel like we had a reservation. Compared to 10 Butchers, the banchans are definitely a bit lackluster but still decent. The prices are on the expensive side for what you're getting though, and taste-wise, the dishes fall short of cheaper, more authentic Korean versions at other restaurants in the Bay. Finally was able to get a reservation here after being turned away for walk-in a few months ago. Food is of great quality and at a price that justifies it when compared to AYCE bbq places nearby that are charging basically the same. The classic set was quite filling for my party of 3! Their thin sliced oxtail is very unique, and it's so nice to find thick cut beef tongue here! I do want to take this chance to give a heads up to any new patrons though - Walk-ins are not frequently available. The first time I was here, my group was turned away despite the restaurant being...empty? lol This time we made a reservation not knowing that the non-grill tables are à la carte only with very limited options, and you NEED to reserve the grill tables to order the sets. Thankfully the manager onsite today was very understanding and went out of his way to help get us a table after we got here at 9 pm and found out the hard way. Thank you! I went here for a small celebration so we went here on a Saturday for dinner around 7pm. There was no wait that day and I was surprised about that since most restaurants usually have a wait around that time. Anyways, we were quickly seated and we ordered the Tteobokki, Japchae, Eonyang Bulgogi Australian Wagyu, Butcher's Steak US Wagyu, Hot Stone Kimchi Stew, Rice, and a Hwachae Punch. The staff also asked us if we wanted them to cook it at the table for us or cook it ourselves. We ended up letting them cook it while we watched and ate our food, so that was nice being able to multitask. Everything here tasted authentic, but I wasn't expecting the stew to be so spicy. The stew is packed with meats and veggies so it was comforting and tasty with a kick at the same time. I'd recommend this place! Move over San Ho Won, there's a new upscale KBBQ shop in the bay! Olhso is located in Downtown San Mateo, across the street from a free public lot, though there is street parking in the area. They have two menus: the grill menu for cooking at the table, and the other menu where everything is cooked in the kitchen and then brought to your table. The former menu requires advanced reservation, but it's nice because your server will cook it in front of you. I've been on two separate occasions and tried each respective menu - can't go wrong with either! The food is delicious and the quality is unmatched. The restaurant looks deceptively small with its garage design, but the moment you walk in, it's like you're transported to another dimension entirely. The walls are covered in moving projections that make the whole space feel incredibly immersive. We went with the OLHSO Classic for 2-3 people, a signature course featuring 7 different cuts paired with a stew. It's a lot of food, but it didn't matter because we wanted to try every single course. With the table grill experience, a server cooks everything right in front of you, checks in on your preferred doneness, labels each cut, and recommends the chef's sauce pairings. Ours was super attentive, conversational, and genuinely passionate about the food. He even shared the story behind the restaurant and Chef Han Sungil, who was apparently supposed to be on Culinary Class Wars as a White Spoon (I think)! There is a parking garage nearby and B street which is closed to traffic provides a nice promenade while waiting. Reservations is a must since this place can be fully-booked for months. When making reservations, specify if you prefer: Table Grill which makes for a longer dining time (maybe a couple of hours) and their servers grill meats at your table or Grill-Free for quicker service where dishes are cooked over their kitchen's binchotan charcoal. Our daughter treated us for dinner and opted for the Signature Set which is good for our party of four. The selection of meat in this set includes about ten different cuts of beef. You also get a choice of two stews for the table. We also added a side order of pork belly. The meats are cooked by their server and they provide a variety of side dishes to complement, balance, and contrast the flavors of Korean barbecue. The place is spacious and one does not see or smell smoke from the table grills. It's certainly a good place for a long conversation with great company. Review (English) Getting a reservation for a BBQ table here was not easy at all. After finally finding an available time slot a few weeks out, I made the reservation and waited for weeks with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience ended up being disappointing. The meat itself was... just meat. It wasn't bad, but there was nothing particularly memorable or special about it. The sauces were quite good, and the staff member who explained the dishes was professional, friendly, and provided excellent service. The side dishes were also decent. The standout was the white kimchi, which kept me reaching for more throughout the meal. The biggest issue came from the stews we ordered with the meat. We started with the soybean paste stew (doenjang jjigae). After just one spoonful, I immediately felt something was off with the flavor. I called a staff member over and asked if it could be replaced with something else. They kindly agreed, so I switched to the kimchi stew. Unfortunately, the kimchi stew had a similar problem. I could tell they had simmered it for a long time to develop flavor, but it seemed overcooked. Some of the ingredients had stuck to the bottom of the pot and burned, leaving a noticeable burnt taste. I brought it up again, and a Korean staff member from the kitchen came out to ask about the issue. I explained my concerns in detail, and they listened politely. Considering how difficult it was to get a reservation and how long I had looked forward to visiting, the overall experience was disappointing. Growing up in SoCal has spoiled me immensely as the population of kbbq options there are infinite. So naturally, after hearing about Olhso House, I jumped at the opportunity to get a res with some friends and boy, was this place GREAT. The ambiance was beautiful and dimly lit, establishing a mood of, oh this is nice, but not pretentious and I'm going to sit here and eat for a couple hours on end until my stomach hurts kind of feeling. And that is exactly what we did. We got the table grill experience for 6 people and ordered the Olhso House signature set menu + à la carte pork belly + beef tongue, japchae and kimchi pancake. This was the perfect amount, with even some leftovers to take home. I was quite impressed by the quality of meat and how even the marinated ones were not overly seasoned. The banchan (especially their white kimchi) were all so divine. To top it off- our amazing server Seymus made the experience extra memorable and patiently described each different meat cut to the table. A KBBQ experience to remember! Thanks to IG and our Amex benefits, we decided to give Olhso a try. My husband booked the table grilled experience and our server Johnson was fantastic! He was friendly, attentive and totally hustled between tables through the night. We got the classic set + seafood pancake + a side of rice + 2 drinks and our total was ~$275. For the price point, I wished the experience could feel a little more high-end. Yes, there some cuts of meat that were good but not amazing. The only cuts that really stood out to me were the beef tongue and the thinly sliced oxtail. The banchan was underwhelming and the salad basket had 2 perilla leaves. You would think paying that much you would get a little more veggies. Overall, I give this place a 5/5 for service but a 3/5 for good. It's worth the try but I wouldn't be returning. Also, do not book at prime time dinner. We were stuck looking for parking in the parking lot for almost 20 minutes! Definitely come with a group of 6 so your table will have a grill. But the meat quality/taste honestly fell flat, we ordered a variety of beef and pork meat, and the pork cuts especially were pretty dry (some beef cuts were delicious, but others were also dry). I was a bit surprised that lettuce refills were additional charge, but luckily I'm not a big lettuce eater at kbbqs. Our server did a great job tending to the grill, but I did notice that every time we asked for some side dish refills (twice throughout the meal), she looked pretty impatient with a slight eye roll, which slightly dampened the experience. My friends and I were really excited to try Olhso House out from the photos of the food and interior decor. We booked a couple weeks in advance, and the reservation was easy to do online. Parking in the area can be tricky during peak time, but there are a lot of meter and garages in the area. Upon arriving, we got seated quickly since we had a reservation. Our party got the classic set and the pork platter with a side of tteok-bokki with cheese. The portion of meats provided were pretty tiny, so everyone just had bites of each meat. The portion size made it felt like it was a tasting menu, especially when you are splitting with a bigger party. The server was nice, but it was a bit slow between each meat. It felt like we waited 10-15 min before the server came to add the next meat on the stove. They also had to check on the salad since it didn't come out until later. And they served the soup towards the end as well. My party felt the soup was on the saltier side too. We were also surprised when the tteok-bokki came out without the cheese, and they had to bring it back to add it. Overall, our party had a higher expectation since the atmosphere and vibes was supposed to be an elevated dining experience. However, we did feel disappointed with the portion of meats for the price, the timing of the services, and the unique of the flavor. When choosing and entering an upscale restaurant such as Olhso House, you would expect a much pleasant and exceptional experience. My husband took me to Olhso House for a Valentine's Day dinner and it was pretty good! Although we didn't book the grill table, it was still an overall good experience. We were seated right away when we walked in. The restaurant didn't feel as busy which was nice. We were given our menus and after a few minutes, the waiter came by to take our orders. The waiter didn't really know the drinks as well when it came to the hot teas so he had to get the manager to give us more info on it. The manager kindly explained to us the different teas they had and we decided on the non caffeinated carrot tea. It was interesting taste since I never had something like this. What we ordered: Beef tongue: So yummy!! Perfectly cooked and the scallion & lemon pairs so well! I can definitely order few more plates of this if I wasn't full. Beef tartar: The presentation and the flavor was great! I was a bit confused because it came with an ice cream cone but the waffle cone & beef tartar actually tasted good! Olsho was such a vibe from the moment we walked in. The interior is absolutely beautiful -- from the moving pictures on the walls to the dark, moody lighting, it's truly the perfect date night spot. It feels intimate and elevated. We didn't realize at first that the non-grill tables have a different menu, but the servers were amazing and walked us through every part of it so we could still get a taste of everything. 4.5 stars. A relaxing, delicious dining experience. Great drinks, great banchan and great service, with every grilled meat better than the last. The only downside is the price, as it's not cheap. If you have either the American Express Gold or Platinum card, you will receive a $50 credit (semi-annually) and $100 credit (quarterly), respectively, as both cards offer Resy credits, and OHLSO House is on their list. You have two reservation options - the inner grill tables (they grill for you, at the table) or the outer tables (they grill your meats in the kitchen and bring them out to you). Of course, for the full experience, most people reserve the inner grill tables, which is why they're booked out months in advance. Reserve early. OHLSO House might be our new favorite KBBQ restaurant, replacing 10 Butchers (but we're not snobs, we like Goku too!). Starting with the cocktails, the Hwachae Punch, Bam Old Fashioned and the White Lotus Makgeoli were all great. We selected the Signature menu and added on the Mul Naengmyeon and Japchae. It was also my daughter's birthday so they graciously provided a complimentary Happy Birthday Myeok guk. The banchan was on point, and Doenjang Stew and Soondubu Stew were also included with the Signature menu. As mentioned, every grilled meat was better than the previous one. The Signature menu includes 10 meats, ending with an innovative presentation of oxtail. It's thin-sliced, cross-cut, grilled and served with a dipping sauce. Each diner has a selection of three flavor enhancements - soy/ponzu, wasabi and salt, which are each very good, but we all really liked the fourth soy-garlic-onion-rice vinegar-sugar-grated radish dipping sauce (apologies, I've forgotten the name of it). Tbh, with so many meats, we also forgot the names but remembered the textures and flavors. So good. Unfortunately the ice cream machine was temporarily out-of-service, so it was disappointing not to be offered a dessert, considering the price point. To end our meal, we had the pleasure of meeting Chef Han Sungil. One possible area for improvement - perhaps retraining the staff not to hover. Besides our main server, there were other support people helping. One in particular just kind of stood next to our table, poked our meats once in a while, would go away and then come back and hover again. It felt a little awkward and weird. Dropped in for lunch as a party of four and didn't realize the BBQ menu is dinner-only -- but we stayed and I'm so glad we did. The interior is brand new and super sleek, with Korean-themed visuals projected across the walls -- a really cool touch that sets the mood without feeling gimmicky. We ordered the bulgogi jeongol (bulgogi hot pot) with veggies, glass noodles, and an extra meat add-on. It came with garlic, ssamjang, and lettuce wraps so you can build your own bites. We also shared the beef tartare and kimchi pancake to start. Every single dish impressed -- great balance of flavor, fresh ingredients, and noticeably high-quality meat. Service was outstanding. Seymus took great care of us -- attentive without hovering, helpful with cooking guidance, and quick to jump in when needed. Since we were the only lunch table, the experience felt especially personal. The meat quality alone convinced me: I'm definitely coming back for dinner BBQ next time. What a really cool place for Korean bbq! We ordered the Olhso whole short rib. So tender and flavorful. Beef tartar cane in a sugar cone and raw egg yolk. The sever mashed the cone over the beef and it gave the tartar a nice contrast in texture. Waygu bulgogi was amazing and delicious, so tender and tasty. Beef bone Jim was also very well executed. The potatoes had an amazing flavor. Seafood pancake was fluffy and seafood was not overcooked. Really the best seafood pancake I've ever had. Pork jowl was also very tender. It tasted great with the coarse salt. Overall a fabulous place for Korean bbq. read more

The food was good, both cuts of meat we chose were flavorful. They also gave a ton of sides and would keep asking us if we wanted refill. The rib soup was just ok, I think Daeho makes better soups. The japchae was probably my favorite. The interior is really modern and with the high walls and circulation, it did not smell as much as other kbbq restaurants. Service - they cook for you, so you usually don't have to worry about the meat being overcooked. One server came to ask our server to do something, unsure what, but said she'll take over grilling the meat. Her customer service was horrible, she kept leaving and coming back multiple times with the meat on the grill. She was all over the place... She slightly burnt it too. I'm not sure what was going on that night, but please train the staff. That was so unprofessional and a mood killer to our $200 meal. read more
