Town of Dumpling is a hole-in-the-wall spot. The interior's pretty basic, but that's expected. There's one really nice guy working the register and helping with tables. You can see the aunties in the back making the dough and dumplings from scratch. The food isn't bursting with flavor, but it tastes like home cooking. It's the kind of comfort food you'd expect from your parents. If you go in with that mindset, you'll enjoy it. I actually like that it's not over the top. It's nice to have something that tastes homemade. Not oily, not too salty, just simple and taste healthy. You can also buy frozen dumplings to take home.

Exceptional value. Lovely service and family restaurant atmosphere -- open at very convenient hours. Came in around 4pm and was very promptly served by two very kind staff. Noodles and dumplings were very flavorful, would definitely return for more comfort food.

A nice hole in the wall spot you want to try different types of mainly taiwanese food. My friends love this place but maybe I'm not as authentic as they are! We had the beef noodle soup, a pancake thing filled with meat, XLB and dumplings. All of it was just okay. Nothing really stood out. The wait staff is nice even tho the place is small. You know they make their own dumplings from scratch cuz you can see and hear the mixer going to make the dough. If you like the dumplings or XLB they sell it frozen so you can make it at home! I think they might be cash only!

A hole in the wall spot if you are craving dumplings and a comforting meal. The service is quick and the staff are always friendly and efficient. It's located in a plaza so parking is very convenient. There is a written menu on the wall which includes frozen dumplings and other items if you wanted to take it home. The only thing is that those items are cash only. You can still pay with card if you sit down and eat from the main menu. Price is very reasonable for what you get. Items Ordered: - Beef Pancake: Really tasty beef pancake and it's not super oily which I like. Pretty decent portion so you can split with others. - Dumplings with pork and chives: Comes with 12 dumplings, always delicious. - Dumplings with napa cabbage: Also comes with 12 dumplings and just as delicious. - Garlic string beans: Smaller portion than I would've expected but the flavor makes up for that. Comes with pieces of tofu too. - Pork and shrimp wonton soup: Wonton was flavorful and soup was not oily at all with a comforting taste that makes me want to eat it on a cold day. Highly recommend, 10/10!

A very good hole in the wall spot for dumplings. They prefer if you pay in cash at this location, so it is good to have that ready. There is a decent amount of parking in the plaza. All of the seating is indoors and it's fairly small inside. There are pictures of the dishes on the walls which makes it easier to order and also makes you want to try everything. The quality of the food is very good and the prices are decent. The dumplings have a really good filling to skin ratio and everything was cooked very well. You can see part way into the kitchen and the dumplings are being made fresh all day. They also sell the dumplings frozen if you want to take them home and cook them at a later time. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who's looking for fresh made dumplings and I can't wait to go back and eat there again.

My review is only on the take out. I haven't dined in before, but it's a small shop with maybe 8-10 small tables? Real no-frills mom and pop shop, which helps keep prices low! We've ordered food from here a few times and have enjoyed all of the dishes, though some more than others: - The dumplings (including soup dumplings) are good, skin has great texture. - Lamb skewers are good, though wish they gave more - Noodle with bean paste is good, but nothing special - Beef noodle soup, noodles are a good texture but again nothing special. Maybe I'm not that into beef noodle soup. I find it comparable to Ox9 downtown (which I also don't get the hype) - If you like spice, ask their chili!! It is so good. We only got it recently and I'm sad I missed out on it all the other times They sell frozen dumplings that you can buy to steam at home. I haven't tried them yet but I want to soon!! The only reason my review is not 5 stars is cause, although everything was good, not everything was amazing. We will be back whenever I'm craving dumplings!

It's convenient for take out orders now that they have an online ordering system. Since the menu has lots of good items, I can take my time in deciding. When I get there the staff has my order ready and packed for take out. Favorites are - green onion pancakes - 5 spice marinated beef - beef tendon - green chive and pork dumplings - Xiao long bao So so - bean curd thread noodles (small quantity) - beef pancake (expected more beef) Overall, Towm of Dumpling is a good choice. Not that many tables and ambiance but you are going there for the food.

Simple restaurant setting, but lovely food! The dumplings are all made from scratch here. The Shanghai soup dumplings were good, flavorful, and nicely soupy. The sesame pancake with marinated beef was tasty; the beef was so yummy and flavorful with the green onions inside! There was one guy working out in the dining area, but service was good. I will definitely be coming back soon to try more!

The Best Shanghai cooking in the Bay Area! In a tiny strip mall a minute from Hillsdale shopping center this is a hidden gem! Not Fancy but the food was fresh and correctly flavored! Soup dumplings and beef noodle soup BETTER than Din Tai Fung!!! Beef tendon and wood ear mushroom and cucumber appetizers perfect textures! Server/owner friendly, fast and efficient! Coming back tomorrow with my family!

What a pleasant surprise to find this great Chinese spot in my neighborhood! Can't believe I've never tried it. Most Chinese restaurants in the peninsula are heavily Cantonese-influenced, but this one is not, which is a nice change of pace. Highlight is definitely the dumplings, you can watch the aunties portioning out dough and making them by hand behind the glass in the kitchen. The dumplings are flavorful, and the homemade skins are perfectly thick and chewy. Thank goodness they sell the dumplings frozen so you can keep them on hand to eat anytime! Sesame pancake with beef is a must try as well - perfectly crispy pancakes. Sleeper hit - dry fried green beans. This is a Chinese menu staple, but they really do it well here. Beans are actually blistered, it's not too salty, and it comes with strips of fried tofu as well. The only critique I had is the "bean curd stick" or fu zhu salad lacked a little flavor to me, but it was still tasty! Overall, love this place (and that dishes are not too salty) and will come back again and again.

I came with a friend and got seated immediately. In terms of service, there wasn't too much interaction with the staff since you order via QR code, but they will come over and put your receipt on the surface of the table and check off your items as they bring them out. Initially, my friend and I thought they grilled the skewers on the plate at the table; however, it comes pre-cooked and grilled, and the plate itself is there to keep your food warm. I looked under, and it's "powered" by a bunch of tea candles. Between both of us, we ordered some skewers of enoki mushrooms (which was my favorite, super tender and flavorful), some beef skewers, a beef skewer with lychee (super unique), beef tongue (a bit tough for my liking), and chicken skin (extremely crispy, somewhat hard to pull off the skewer). I want to call out again the beef with lychee since this was an item I do not see often. It was interesting because the beef was seasoned well and when combined with the lychee, it added a refreshing note; however, the lychee's textural profile was similar to fatty beef, which personally threw me off a bit as someone who tends not to like fatty cuts (if you are a fan though, you'll like this). Overall, this spot is an okay place to check out if you're in the area. Parking in this area of San Mateo is limited, but the restaurant itself has a lot of tables, so it can be good for bigger parties.

Recently I stopped to pick-up dinner with the plan to have leftovers. I called my order in and was quoted 40 minutes for my order to be ready. Curry Beef Stew I've never had Curry beef stew before, prefer chicken, curry, but for some odd reason, I decided to order this dish. It was underwhelming and I won't order it again. The Curry sauce itself was OK but the big long pieces of beef were somewhat gross, lots of fat. They added plenty of slices to onions and a few pieces of green pepper and Julienned carrots, but that's about it for being called a stew. So I learned my lesson by not sticking to my usual order, and won't order wonton soup or curry beef stew again.
