Not impressed. Service was really good and they were extremely attentive! The food : not too many options, small portions and flavor was regular. I asked the aioli garlic sauce and that gave some flavor to my tamale My bf had the pork belly tacos and he loved it. Still, only two tacos for $16 My flavorless tamale was $20 Beautiful decoration and nice atmosphere

This place is great to have in DTSF. Very good food across the board. And congrats on the James Beard award!! That is an amazing accomplishment!! Well deserved. Wouldn't mind if that burger from the battle stayed on the menu. :)

Shrimp tacos

Beautiful historic setting with artisan ingredients presented well. I ordered shrimp tacos which turned out to be very tasty. They had just the right amount of heat and were loaded with shrimp. I expected the delicate corn tortillas to crumble or split, but they handled all the fillings nicely. I can't wait to go back and try more items from their menu.

Amazing flavors! Had three tacos, one had a carrot mix and was a great veggie option. Chicken and beef were top notch too. The base of the tacos is the in house nixtamal process described as a labor intensive traditional method of making the base of the corn tacos I had and other items. I have never had a soft corn tortilla quite like that, combining a smooth texture with a tangy flavor that went great with the tacos. I am looking forward to trying the other items that use the nixtamal like the sopes and tostadas. There were some great looking seafood options as well. All your favorite local Salas Salsas are available for sale here too. The verde has been a favorite of mine, so good! The meats were super tender and had so many fresh flavors and spices, some were topped with delicate and delicious greens and veggies too. Service and atmosphere were great with big windows overlooking Phillips avenue. Awesome addition to downtown!!

Margarita and my soup of the month.

What a great experience! The service was amazing just as my margarita and meal; Tacos Gobernador. I cant remember the name of the soup but it was delicious!!!

This was a religious experience! Incredible experience for those looking for a surprisingly fresh and complicated taste palate - with locally-sourced and made from scratch food. Hands down the best meal I have experienced. Wish we loved closer, we would be here everyday! Wow!

Absolutely, recommend to anyone to go and eat!! Be sure to ask your server how to order to enjoy the full experience of your meal. We did not go leave hungry and we will be back soon!

Food. Service. Ambiance. Great place. Only thing I'd change is having a liquor license. Or some Mexican coffees.

My husband and I went there on Wednesday when they have Trivia and we had a great time. Happened to…read morebe Gen X's and that's us! Bartender was busy and super helpful. The food is a burgers/chicken and fries and tots. Ranch and Roost. It's a window service when u walk in and order from them when u want. They grind their own beef daily and it's smash burgers. We had just some fries but it was a huge cup of em'. If you've never had Mead... just try the fight choices, as it is super sweet and high alcohol content. Watch it:). They also have tap beers too. The space is surprisingly big and open. Lots of light with views of the Lake Lorraine. We will get the burger next time and go on Wednesdays.

We swung in on a Thursday evening and were immediately greeted by the couple behind the counter…read more She is the manager and he is the full-time bartender and you couldn't have a better pair serving customers! They were attentive, took time to explain the choices to us, and made recommendations. Most of us did the mead flight ($12.50 for 3 samplers) which was a great way to try different flavors. I also tried one of the cocktails using the mead (the one that had coconut and pineapple in it) and it was delicious!! It was a great place to spend ringing in my 40th birthday. The only slight negative is the tables out on the patio have seats for 4 but if you order food, most of them aren't big enough to fit 4 people. However, I did spot some larger tables down below the deck that you could seek out if you have a bigger party and want to sit outside.

Chicken sandwiches are also available. I got a burger with cheese, onions, and special sauce, a big order of sea salt fries (choose your seasoning) and 2 craft beers for $24!! The bar has about 20 seats and there's several tables for table service. Not great for a big party, but perfect for a quick, but hot delicious lunch or dinner! The bartenders were attentive and kind and I will definitely be back! I'm sad I didn't get to try the root beer float with on tap root beer for less than $5! I'll just have to go back!

One Sunday afternoon my husband and I found ourselves wandering around DTSF -- which, for…read morenon-locals, is the commonly used shorthand for Downtown Sioux Falls -- looking for a good burger place. And somehow we stumbled right into JL Beers. Or perhaps more accurately, the scent of burgers guided us there like a pair of hungry travelers following a greasy North Star. Either way, what a fantastic little find this turned out to be. The burgers were juicy, flavorful, and properly satisfying in the way a good burger should be. Not overcomplicated. Not trying too hard. Just well-prepared comfort food done right. The fries were excellent too -- crisp, well-seasoned, and dangerously easy to keep eating long after I was already full. The service also impressed me quite a bit. Even on a busy Sunday afternoon, the staff remained attentive, friendly, and efficient without making us feel rushed. One unexpectedly fun part of the visit was trying non-alcoholic beer options for the first time. My husband and I are not really drinkers, so this was a little adventure for us. The sparkling hop water was surprisingly refreshing and delightful, while the Athletic non-alcoholic beer leaned a little more bitter than my personal preference. Still, I appreciated finally getting to try some of the newer NA options people have been talking about lately. And honestly, this place wound up becoming one of our gateway restaurants into exploring more of DTSF afterward. We have returned several times since, usually combining it with walks around downtown and trying other local spots nearby. Now, of course, every local already knows the true final boss battle of downtown Sioux Falls: Parking. At some point you simply accept that you are either going to circle the block repeatedly like a confused migrating bird or surrender gracefully and use one of the nearby parking garages. Which honestly is not the end of the world. The walk is good for us. At least until winter arrives and the sidewalks become an Olympic slipping event sponsored by snow, ice, and regret.
