We we told our pup was healthy from the rescue/Vet, we still took the pup to our regular Vet after bringing him home. It turns out, he still had fleas AND had a bad ear infection (and no medication was administered for it). Neither of which were addressed during the rescue's in-take and during his care/time at the farm. After another week... and we found live worms in our pup's stools and immediately had to buy more medicine for tapeworms. I read previous reviews saying similar experiences (but given they were anywhere from 1-2 yrs ago I thought this might have been addressed with the time that had passed), but no as of Nov 2024 these are still very valid conditions to be aware of. The animals need to be further tested and treated during the adoption process (and really should be done during a quarantine period to avoid it being a constant cycle at the Farm). To add to the issue, we have other pets at home, so, unbeknownst, introducing fleas and worms to the rest of our gang, plus remediation, was very frustrating. We've also asked for the formal rabies certificate, as well as the tag... and feel like the request goes ignored. They only hand wrote in a Rabies # on the adoption paperwork which doesn't seem very valid. I'm sad I have to write a "bad" review, because we'd like to believe the rescue's intetions are in the right place. But I hope FKAR considers these similar comments/complaints going forward to truly ensure they are adopting out healthy animals.

There are many puppies some of which don't look healthy in small cabinet size shelves with clear windows and metal grate bottoms. I asked if the puppies get time out of the cages to move around and was told they try to let them in a small gated pen at least once a day on hard tile. I will not be going back and if the puppies are from reputable breeders they should be ashamed of the conditions the puppies are enduring for a sale. Very sad!

We were able to set up a time to meet the dog (each time) quickly even though I have a an irregular schedule. They took the time to make sure we knew what would be required in caring for the dogs as well as visiting our home to ensure it would be a safe and appropriate place for a pet to live. In each adoption they were very helpful and informative, never seemed bothered by my endless questions and continue to be in touch with us for updates and questions. They use a stepping stone method from inhale to home. The pups start in a triage shelter to ensure the dogs are healthy through vet visits, stabilize the pups after any transit, and to get to know the intricacies of the individual characteristics of the new arrivals. They use this information to pair up the dogs with foster homes, helping the pups learn how to live in a caring environment and structured routines. This helps prepare the dogs for success at the next step which is adoption. Some dogs are so well adapted to the new surroundings that they can skip ahead in the process but others need time to decompress from the trauma they experienced. Again, this places has a mission to help dogs find their perfect home. Feel free to volunteer with the organization as I do, sign up as a foster, or even adopt a new family member. You will enjoy it and appreciate this place.

After several visits over the years, I can say there are some positives--but also some major drawbacks that ultimately pushed us to look elsewhere. First, this clinic is exceptionally expensive. Nearly every service, from routine checkups to prescriptions, is priced noticeably higher than other veterinarians in the area. Even basic medications felt inflated, which adds up quickly when you have multiple pets. Customer service has been inconsistent. While scheduling appointments is easy, the in-office experience really depends on which doctor you get. Dr. Irina was the biggest issue for us. We saw her at least three separate times, and each visit left us feeling negative and unheard. She was dismissive, condescending, and spoke to us as if we were children rather than pet owners trying to understand our dog's health. When we brought in our six-month-old Doberman for unexplained hair loss, she immediately pushed for nearly $1,000 worth of tests without offering any explanation or talking through potential causes. The approach felt rushed, impersonal, and overly costly. On the other hand, Dr. Zoe was absolutely wonderful. She cared for our mini schnauzer when he needed several rotten teeth removed, and she was patient, kind, and incredibly thorough. She answered every question, explained the procedure and recovery clearly, and even walked us through all the financial details so we knew exactly what to expect. Her compassion and clarity made such a difference during a stressful situation. If every visit had been with Dr. Zoe, this review would be glowing. But the combination of high prices and inconsistent bedside manner--especially the repeated negative experiences with Dr. Irina--made it hard for us to stay loyal to this clinic. For the amount they charge, the level of care should feel far more consistent and respectful.

I couldn't be happier with Second Chance and highly recommend anyone looking to adopt a cat (they occasionally have dogs but not on the norm) contact them.
