Based on advertised prices I thought it was cheaper than Sports Basement. When picking up the gear they add on an extra 10% for mandatory insurance and then charge sales tax. Sports Basement charges neither of these fees making Old Town more expensive. I wish I had just gone to Sports Basement. Sports Basement rents gear that is either current model year or max 2 years old with very knowledgeable employees and at the same or cheaper prices! I tried to support local, but I will not make that mistake again and will exclusively rent from Sports Basement.

We checked out all their products and I like the extensive options for helmets, bikes, bibs, clothing, gear, parts and gels. We were tempted with some raincoats that were on sale and ended up holding on those for now. We discovered there was a seat area where you can measure the distance between your butt bones. I came across Solstice on yelp and gave them a call. They were super responsive and were okay with me coming in right away. I was able to get my spoke repaired in about 15 minutes for $40. I had never been to Caesar's but decided to try it out since I was in a bit of a pinch. I arrived as the shop was opening, and Caesar graciously put my bike on his stand and fixed it as I waited. The repair included tapping a bolt hole I had damaged on the spider. I like establishing a relationship with a shop, and I used to go to Tony Tom at Bicycle Odyssey. Caesar's technical ability and friendliness really won me over as a customer and I'll take my bikes to him from now on.

This is a long time family run shop that is a gem in the community. The shop was closed due to a…read morefamily emergency, yet the shop owner's wife unlocked the door and invited me in to use the workshop tools and spares to fix my bike. She didn't even want to take any money for the parts I used, so I tried to estimate generously. I was left without rear gears 30 miles from home after some reckless rider came around a blind bend on the wrong side of the road and smacked into me and my bike, then rode off. The positives and kindness of this shop and family turned my day around. I'll stop by whenever I'm in the area to support their business.
