The staff there were very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I had my bike, which I had not ridden in a very long time, fully serviced here. They serviced my bike relatively quickly. It was less than 3 days, and it was ready for pickup. I was sent an automated text message notifying me that my bike was ready. I was a bit shocked when I picked it up, as the price was over $200 more than my original estimate. My bike rode very well after they serviced it. The bike was as good as new. The shop itself is decent-sized with all types of bikes, including e-bikes. There are also bike accessories, including helmets, gloves, water bottles, bike attire, parts, and headlights. Be warned that they sell high-end bikes here. If you are looking for more budget-friendly bikes, you may want to check out Walmart. read more

I made an appt for service via their website (very easy to use), and when I showed up the staff went above and beyond to help me. They were able to repair tires that I'd assumed weren't salvageable after sitting in a garage for 5+ years. And the gentleman who ended up doing the repair right then while I waited also helped me with several questions as I consider how to adapt the bike to better fit current needs (more comfortable saddle, pet carrier, etc) even though I wasn't ready to order anything that day. I got 5 star attention even though what I actually ended up spending for service was a lot less than I'd anticipated. Overall I highly recommend this store and service shop, and will absolutely go back for my next bike or bike accessory or repair there. read more

Think it's safe to declare this my new go-to bicycle shop! Adding a new bicycle to my little vehicle fleet has been way overdue. That was until a stop at BGI South a few weeks ago. Looking for a new hybrid, a Giant Escape 3 caught my eye. Like any respectable bike shop, test rides are permitted. Although the desired color wasn't readily available in my size, one was ordered to the shop within a week by a kindly salesman, Riley. Soon enough, a new two-wheel that I can't stop riding was mine! In a more recent visit, I stopped in due to an issue with a quick-release wheel stem. The problem was that the end nut would only tighten so far before the plastic cap would free spin without tightening. When dropping in & notifying a clerk, he was able to run it to the maintenance area right away, did a bit of work, & replaced the nut. Not only that, but he gave me an extra quick-release stem in case the repair didn't work. What service, and at no charge! Remarkable service, and a nice array of bikes and accessories! His Hubbins and I had been talking about getting a bike rack for the car for months... and it kept not actually happening. So! In the neighborhood, I dropped by the BGI, and got friendly advice/recommendations, and chose a bike rack (one I'd researched online). It works great, and suits our needs perfectly -- Monon Trail, here we come! Facilities: vast, clean, comprehensive, well-organized. SO many choices of bicycles, racks, supplies, accoutrements. Service: friendly and knowledgeable. Attentive. They remembered me when I returned. Unexpected bonus: they also have a whole section devoted to exercise equipment/home gyms! Hmmm... will definitely have to check it out. I'd love an indoor stationary bicycle for when the ugly weather hits. read more

On February 2nd, 2024, I contacted Bicycle Garage Indy (Greenwood) to inquire about their bike demo services for a week-long visit to my parents. Unfortunately, they do not offer this service, which surprised me since I've bike demos elsewhere in the country. Instead, the representative suggested I buy a used road bike from them for $2000 and promised to take it back with a $400 "restocking" fee. This suggestion raised concerns as it could lead to potential issues with returning the bike. When I expressed these concerns, the conversation took a negative turn. On February 6th, 2024, I contacted the Indianapolis location to describe my previous interaction and see if they had demo bikes available. The person I spoke with was very courteous. He suggested I speak with the sales manager, Tobias. I emailed Tobias to share my frustration and mentioned the odd suggestion from the Greenwood location. I also expressed the suggested "solution" was so odd I felt like leaving a negative review. Tobias responded defensively, trying to gaslight me into believing my dissatisfaction was unwarranted and suggesting I should appreciate their offer. Needless to say, his response ensured a negative Yelp review from me. Their attitude was dismissive and negative. Other bike shops in the also did not provide this service, but I left positive reviews on their Yelp pages because they were helpful. No matter what Bicycle Garage Indy might suggest, their "solution" to my request was weird and felt like a scam. (Again, I have gotten demo/rental bikes from many other shops in the country.) I went to BGI's famous consignment sale today after a fellow cycle friend recommended it. I was in the market for a used road bike. I am an indoor cycling instructor looking to start doing some distance rides outdoors. I didn't want to spend the big bucks just quite yet and this sale was perfect for me. I walked right in and seen all the bikes they had to offer as a part of the sale. They were very organized! They had lots of employers walking around offering and available for assistance and or recommendations which I really appreciated. Since I'm an instructor I know how to fit myself but I also asked the gentleman for assistance and he was very very nice and helpful. They had a wide variety of bikes from cruisers, mountain, road, kids , tandem , etc. Not to mention I had my 4 year old with me and the organization and smoothness was a plus for me! I appreciated that. I snagged my first road bike for $125. Thank you BGI for the great customer service! I will definitely visit again. read more

In Indianapolis, Bicycle Garage Indy (BGI) is the big to-do. ​BGI has been in Indianapolis almost as long as I have: since 1983. Once you stop by one of BGI's area shops, you'll understand why they are in their fourth decade of business. The shops (minus their Downtown location) are massive. With a huge inventory, BGI has just about every style of bike known to man. Dealing in many reputable brands such as Cannondale, Trek, Giant, Sun, and Electra, no one will ever have trouble finding the perfect machine. While you won't find Wal-Mart prices (or shoddiness​) at this dealership, there is a bicycle for just about any budget. ​Having originally looked at a bicycle at BGI's Northside location. I eventually chose the Greenwood location, as they had several models in which I was interested. I was very happy with my experience. I worked with the floor sales manager, who later told me the being on a bicycle was her "happy place" and that she once rode her bike across the United States. I felt very comfortable​ working with a person like this! After explaining my physical​ situation to her, as well as the models that piqued my interest, she quickly grabbed two-three bikes that would fit my needs. The manager was very patient with me; I asked an enormous amount of questions, and I took many repeat test rides. I finally decided on a Cannondale, which came highly recommended. Now that I have been riding the bicycle for two full months, I can say that BGI's expertise has improved my life in a major way. BGI has an over-the-top selection of bicycle accessories. The store also has an excellent (and quick) service department. All new bike purchases come with a store credit, which is typically used on a tune-up within the first six months. i went inside and looked at a trike for seniors but not for disabled seniors or people with disability who are not knowledgeable. for anyone with disability he said a sun bike would be fine. but i said I needed a brake with one hand and my right leg is shorter. my parents always went to Swin and had one made for me. it took two weeks to get it. the bike sun, because these places have no trucks. to deliver the charged me 100.00 then he came out on Tuesday to fix the seat he said that was it. i could not move my right leg over and practice. he said i tried. i can not reach the handlebars. i called on 8/22 to come and get the bike. he said i needed to call the north side to get a truck to come in and get it. but we have a big sale Friday Saturday Sunday and closed on Monday and i do not know if anyone can come and get it. then charge me another 100 i asked for a full refund. i paid 750 for the big that can not even use. he said i call you back soon for pick up day and time. acorrding to the ada act these people must have bike for every type of disablity. sun bike said they charage to much. how am i supposed to get by bike back with refund. read more

This place made all the wrongs right. After my disappointing experience and dissatisfied review, without a single excuse, they went above and beyond to ensure I was taken care of. They provided a full service to my mountain bike and even completed the tubeless conversion for me. I am happy to say that this place makes sure their customers are satisfied and it truly is their goal to provide the best service possible. This is the second location of BGI. The original location is on the north side on 86th St. (There's also a small, basically service-only shop in the Indy Bike Hub downtown.) This location serves the south side and Greenwood. Not nearly as large as the other location so don't expect the selection either. However they will move inventory from the north side location for you if you are interested. read more

I am very impressed with Bicycle Garage Indy - South! We decided that it was time to purchase some bikes and become more active ya know...instead of sitting on the couch all day every day. Well, this is the only bike shop I know of around the Indy area. My ex and I purchased some bikes from the northside location years ago (long story) so I felt this would be a good place to start. When we arrived we were quickly greeted by a guy named Loran (at least I hope that was his name as that's the name on the receipt). We told Loran what we were looking for. Basically, we wanted a road bike, but not a road bike, but something that could do both that and some light off-road as well. He took us over to their dual sport bikes and began to explain why he would recommend those over anything else in the store. He also explained the difference between a dual sport, road, hybrid, and mountain bikes. Holy hell, I had no idea there was that much to know about bikes. It was very overwhelming. Loran could clearly see that we were overwhelmed and let us go out on our own for a few minutes to discuss what we just learned. When he came back over we told him that we were a little overwhelmed. He agreed that there was a lot to know about bikes and began to help us narrow down the different types. We were able to quickly able to rule out the road bikes as that just did not meet the needs that we were wanting out of a bike...we were also able to quickly able to rule out hybrids as well. Once we knew that it was either going to be going with either a mountain bike or dual sport bike, he took us outside and let us ride both of them behind their store. We ultimately decided to go with the Trek Dual Sport. Once that decision was made, it came down to choosing the model. Loran was very, very, very patient with us while we talked, discussed, went back and forth, and ultimately made our final decision. I was very impressed with his willingness to work with us and really help us along the way in making the best decision that we could. Once the bikes were picked out he helped us chose our accessories, and just like with the bikes explained everything to us. He even put the new bike rack on the back of my car, and walked me through out to securely install it. When I walked in to their store that day, I didn't really plan to purchase anything...but because of the outstanding service we received from Loran, we purchased two bikes, helmets, and accessories. They're a little on the pricey side...but the service definitely matches the price tag of their products. I've been to most of the bike shops on the south side. BGI has the best selection of bikes, parts and accessories. They also have home gym equipment. The staff is really nice and honest (I once heard a mechanic tell another customer to go across the street and buy his kid another Walmart bike because it would be cheaper than replacing the one he brought in to have fixed). They've helped me plenty of times: advice on parts and tools to buy, changing tires for free and making special orders for me. I come here often and highly recommend this bike shop. read more

Got into road bikes seriously in 2005 , went to bgi to get my 1st road bike. The salesperson didn't really know how to size me for the bike and I ended up with a bike that was too small. In 2008 I decided to upgrade tried bgi again they tried to sell me a bike that was too small again but this time I knew better. I asked about a bike fitting and was told it was extra $. I think it should be included when spending $2500.00 on a bike. The shop where I went to buy my bike included a fitting and the same bike was cheaper than bgi. BGI just wants to sell bikes whether they are right for you or not. Don't go there ! read more
