I recently had my 12 year old Trek bike in for a tune up. It had never been serviced and sorely needed it. The staff was very attentive to what I thought were issues. They seemed confident they were not as dire as I did. Well three days later it was ready and when I picked it up it not looked like new, it rode like new. Oh, hey. When you are in Venice, you need to check out the beautiful ride along the myakka river. This rental place is Uber close to getting on the pathway if you're visiting and don't have your own bike. They are a full line bike store, so buy one, as they have a full staff of experts. We were pleased with our rental, they couldn't have been more accommodating to us. Helmets are part of the pkg. we rode all the way to downtown Venice with a lovely view of the myakka river and back. However we could of gone even further! The store sells trek, and rents tandems, etc. so glad they re in Venice to serve the unlikely tourist. Worth every penny to check them out! It's been over a month now and am riding with Bicycles International on Mon, Weds, and Saturdays. This is the #1 bike shop in Venice in my book. From my very first visit in 2014 or so, to my most recent trip to Venice to see family (cycling always my favorite exercise while in town), the Bicycles International team has been welcoming, expert with their repairs, friendly and all-around awesome. Keven and Don became more than bike support pros; they became friends, with a rare special quality of character, and encouraging me to consider group rides, and fixing my bike immediately when I had a wheel/hub issue. They are the best! Also great are manager Steve, Tim and Atilla. In addition to the excellent service, owner Wesley and team deserve praise for taking COVID-19 public health and personal safety guidelines very seriously, continuing to render essential services while thoughtfully taking CDC-recommended steps to protect employees and customers (during my last visit to FL from CA, I noticed several businesses were upholding health precautions, while others were ignoring them. I stopped patronizing businesses that ignored public health precautions and have been saddened to hear that some of those restaurants indeed ended up with staff COVID cases). It's smart for this bike shop to care about its team and clientele; that's the kind of shop for me. I tried to give this shop my business. Twice. First time I needed headset cups pressed into a new frame. This shop wanted $30. They reference some kind of magic charging book and came up with $30 for "replacing a headset". Replacement would entail uninstalling the fork and original cups. A lot more labor than the 4 minutes to press cups into a new frame. No common sense. REAL BIKES did it for $20. Second time, needed to buy a star nut, install star nut, and install crown race. Five minutes labor at most. Star nut costs less than $1 at Jensonusa. Here they wanted $5 for star nut. Fair enough. But they wanted $20 for everything. I thanked them knowing I was headed for REAL BIKES. Then the clown who looks at the magic charging book gave some smart lip about how I would need to buy the tools to do it myself. The tools wouldn't amount to the $20 he wanted to charge. So, it seems like this shop expects each customer to pay the TOTAL cost of the tools, rather than defray the cost of the tools over many separate sales. It's not like the tools are single use. Anyway, REAL BIKES again charged 1/3 less than this shop for the same work. It's a good thing this shop has customers who are clueless. REAL BIKES is not great either, but much much better than this shop. read more

Dropped my bike off on a Sunday because the front wheel was locked out from spinning. Understand that all bike shops are behind with repairs. Left it knowing I was going out of town and they could "triage" the problem and let me know how long for parts and repairs. Called the following Thursday and was told it was going to be 2.5 to 3 weeks before anyone could even look at it to diagnose. WAS NEVER TOLD this when I dropped it off. I drove from Sarasota to Venice because they were opened Sunday and thought I could at least get it looked at while I was traveling. Went to pick it up as a 3 week wait is unacceptable to diagnose. The manager nor employee ever said they were sorry, only I could pay a $35 fee to prioritize it. I took it to a shop in Sarasota who diagnosed it the same day and had it ready the next because it was such a minor repair. Funny thing is, this shop lost an electric bike sale because of the poor service. read more

Avoid this place. Very bad experience. I went in yesterday and set up an appointment for today for them to provide a bid on my existing bicycle as a trade in. When I returned for our appointment the sales person said the owner was not there and could not bid on my bicycle. Meanwhile they told me that the bicycle that I was interested in was the only one left in the entire United States. Hard to believe that this little dishonest shop in Venice Florida has the very last model in the entire United States. They lied and I verified it. I was a sales person before I retired. One good rule of thumb. It never pays to lie to a customer. There was no confusion as you reference and your response. We were told that the bike was not available anywhere else in the United States. I found the bike 30 miles away from your location. Same model and same here. It just pays to be truthful and not make outlandish claims to make a sale. read more

I went to the store to have my rear flat tire repaired. While waiting and walking around store, an employee approached me stating that he wouldn't put the repaired tire back on the bicycle. He had my bicycle in his hands without the tire on the bike and stated that the bicycle was not assembled correctly and he may be liable if I was injured. I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. After stating a few times that I brought the bicycle in with the tire on bike , I demand that it is returned the same way. I then suggested that he could put any wording on the receipt if he wanted. Eventually the store put the tire back on the bike, I paid the bill and left the store. After departing the store I am thinking this might have been a very strange way of saying it would cost me more to correct my bicycle. I corrected the handlebars in 5 minutes when I returned home. It took him longer to walk over and confront me than it would have taken him to fix the problem. Not a business I would trust... read more

AVOID THESE SCAM ARTISTS ! My wife and I have rented bikes several times when we travel. We never had any issues with any bike rental companies in the past. The rental fee itself was reasonable. The problem occurred when the bike was returned after the weekly rental. We took good care of the bike as if it was our own. We brought the Cannondale bike back in the same condition we had rented it. The employee at the store checked out the mechanical function of the bike thoroughly and did not find any problem. He then pointed to a couple of scratches on the bike. I told him I noticed some scratches when I rented the bike, but never considered that to be an issue. He stated he didn't think there was a problem either. The next two days I received a message from the general manager Steve ( Manig ) stating he was going to charge me for the scratches on the rental bike. I tried returning the call but got a full mailbox and couldn't leave a message. They are unscrupulous and should be avoided at all costs. My wife rented a bike from Venice Bikes and Trikes , they dropped off and picked up from our hotel as a free service, and couldn't do enough for us. The manager Steve is extremely difficult to work with if you are an unsatisfied customer. I received a gift certificate from some well meaning friends but after several attempts to use it I found that I needed nothing. I would like to mention that no where on the gift certificate or in the store does it say that it cannot be returned for a refund but Steve refused to do so saying it was a store policy, one that he in fact made up on the spot. His reasoning was unsound and carried no logic it simply came down to the fact that he did not want to do it. This is a changing society and economy and as a small business owner I understand the importance of customer care I also understand contractual agreements, many people blame the Internet for small retail businesses like this doing poorly and maybe that is the case but I feel in this instance that it is poor customer service and unclear store policy. I hope the poor reviews encourage the store owner to make necessary changes. read more

Just purchased a new bike from these guys. Extremely helpful, professional and knowledgeable. They were very patient with me as a newer rider and took the time to make sure I got the right bike. They needed to do a special order for me as I wanted a color they didn't have in stock. When they ordered the bike the manufacturer was sold out of my model but had just come out with the 2014 models. These guys honored the price they quoted me even though the 2014 model was $20 more expensive. Couldn't be happier.
