Don't waste your time or money here. Poor customer service and poor quality, overpriced paint…read more I am repainting a new house, so I have been here several times with questions about paint and to sample and purchase some paint. During every visit, I have had to try and get help from an associate as they seem to either all be sitting in the back break area, or they don't volunteer to help. Each visit has left me with different answers from different associates. Foolishly, I ultimately purchased two gallons of their top of the line Emerald paint and was very disappointed not only with the poor and uneven coverage (after two coats on a clean, lightly textured, new drywall surface), but also with the color. I was told by an associate that I could not return the paint, but that they would replace it with a different color; when I went in with my unopened and unused gallon of paint to exchange for another color, the associates in the store said they don't do any such thing. Save yourself the trouble and try Ace Hardware instead. Their customer service is far superior, they have knowledgeable and helpful staff, and they have much better quality paints at a better price.

Steered us in the right direction with what tools we needed and stain. End up with woodscapes solid stain. Can't wait to see how it looks on our fence soon. I am writing to bring to your attention the reality of working at Ace Burlington, WI, where those…read morewho truly keep the business running are ignored while mediocrity is rewarded. During my time as a cashier, I was more than just someone who rang up transactions--I built relationships with customers, made them feel valued, and went beyond my job description daily. Whether it was helping a struggling customer, looking out for the remodel crew, or creating a welcoming atmosphere that brought people back, I made an impact. And yet, management chose to dismiss that value. I was denied basic breaks due to staffing shortages while others received preferential treatment. I witnessed a culture that encouraged complacency and protected incompetence while disregarding those who actually did the work. When I advocated for myself, I was met with condescension rather than appreciation. Now, with two locations severely understaffed, I'm curious--who will step up? Who will bring the heart and dedication that I, and others like me, brought every single day? I am a Military Veteran, honored with an Army Achievement Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a NATO Medal. I am a graduate of Alverno College, multilingual, and have years of customer service and teaching experience. I am also someone who genuinely cares about people and the community. But despite all that, Ace Burlington would rather overlook real value to focus on people who do not contribute where it matters most--inside the stores, connecting with the communities that keep Ace alive. Ace prides itself on being "The Helpful Place," but when management fails to respect and retain its best employees, what kind of help is actually being provided? I hope corporate starts paying closer attention before more dedicated, hardworking employees walk out the door--taking the true magic of the store with them.

When it comes to staining...well let's say I am the clueless wonder. Their customer service is excellent....both super friendly and knowlegeable. Bring in a sample of what you want matched. Bring in a sample piece for them to use to make the match and they will match it dead nuts on. I never tried oil based stains as I thought they were so much harder to work with. WRONG!! OMG...their stains are virtually foolproof. Not even kidding when I say they are pretty much idiot proof. They go on so smooth it's like magic. Prices are super reasonable. You pay no more there than you would at a bigger box store and on many items like good brushes they're cheaper. I can not say enough good about this store and its employees. I would recommend them hands down to anyplace else. My days of water based stain and poly and being pissed and frustrated are over. Oil based and custom mixed colors all the way now thanks to Hallman-Lindsay.

Best prices on painting accessories in Janesville, hands down. There's almost always specials on…read morePurdy and Wooster brushes. Only place in Janesville I know of that has Tung Oil (not "tung oil *finish*" - which is tung oil and poly). Their house brand rags are the best I've ever used - if you do a lot of wiping, buy your rags here. Their bags of rags are almost entirely made of the rags you pick through other bags to find when you want a decent one for your project. The sell Jen brand foam brushes for what you'd pay on Amazon. (Jen is probably tied for first place for best foam brushes. The ones at the box stores are essentially unusable.) The only negative-in-a-totally-selfish-way thing I have to say about them is they carry every paint thinner in existence from denatured alcohol to naptha to the most uncommon ones, but they don't carry odorless mineral spirits. Which is understandable because most pros prefer naptha for application because it dries faster and paint thinner for cleaning because it cuts better but I'm a sensitive fucking snowflake and need my thinner's stink removed. Their paints are as good as anyone else's top tier, with competitive prices, but if you're not a contractor it's the hidden costs of painting that really hit you and their prices on those are far lower than the competition for either the same or a better product (drop cloths, painter's pal liners, brushes, foam brushes, sandpaper, etc). Working with wood, I use a lot of oils, poly, spar, rags, foam brushes, and sandpaper. I know the prices on Amazon and at Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Sherwin-Williams, and Farm & Fleet for all of them. H-L is the place to go. Also their staff is ridiculously helpful if you need it. And they carry Cabot wood stain and General Finishes milk paint - both of which are top end for what they do. 5/5 all day.

They also offer classes for beginners, as well as for craftspeople looking to improve their skills. I needed a gift for a woodworker and wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for, so I spent some time browsing the aisles. I ended up finding a couple of specialty files that should be a nice addition to their collection. When I checked out, the cashier reminded me that there was a $10 coupon available. I saved enough to get a Starbucks.

This is a guy's toy store! Wait a minute, let me rephrase that - this is a WOODWORKER'S toy store!…read moreI'm not much of a woodworker, I can cut it three times and it's still too short. (I used to watch Norm Abrahm build things on New Yankee Workshop and he made it look so easy, of course, he also had a shop full of stuff that most woodworkers don't have unless their name is Warren Buffet. I'd still like to try building the little sailboat he built one year, but I digress.) If I were to try to build a Norm Abrahm project, this is where I'd be for tools. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly about it. (As opposed to the other place where I felt like I was being talked down to.) I was looking for a specialty product, that they didn't have, but they did have a suggestion for a viable alternative that I'll consider. As long as I was there, I wandered the aisles and I was impressed with the wide selection of tools and accessories. I drooled over tools I wish I had a use for and saw things I didn't even know were made. Brand name power tools as well as more economically priced equipment for the casual user. On the top end, they have a CNC router table (if you have to ask, you'll never use it, anyway) for an amazingly low price of $6,000.00 although the router is not included. I have no use for it but I do marvel at the technology. Really, if I were a serious woodworker, this would be my go-to place for tools, exotic woods, accessories, and advice. It's inconveniently located in a strip shopping center on the southwest corner of Greenfield Avenue and Sunny Slope, on the New Berlin side of Greenfield, but worth the effort to get there.
