One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had! My husband and I both ordered the sliced smoked brisket plate, which came with a soup and two sides. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The Albondigas soup was probably the best part of the meal, but the portion was extremely small and it tasted like canned soup. The mashed potatoes were completely bland, and the refried beans were watery with a strange flavor. The "hickory smoked brisket" did not look or taste smoked at all. It looked more like it had been cooked in a slow cooker. The meat was pale, lacked any smoky flavor, and tasted as if it had been cooked, frozen, and reheated. Even the BBQ sauce couldn't improve it. The food was so bad that neither of us could finish our meals. We only ate a few bites before giving up. I would not recommend eating here. read more

I don't usually leave reviews, but something needs to be said about our experience. Our waitress, Stephanie, was wonderful and attentive. We had no issues with her at all. However, our experience with the food was incredibly disappointing. There were 3 of us dining. We ordered the dirty fries with brisket to start. The fries are hand cut (which is good) but they were not crisp. They were limp, and the brisket was more bbq sauce than meat. The meat was cut into tiny pieces that were mostly fat. The BBQ sauce was overly sweet and it seemed as if it was being used as filler to make it seem like there was more meat. The few pieces of meat I was able to find that weren't fat were dry. For our main courses, my husband ordered the Beef Fajita, my daughter ordered the Traditional Pan Fried Tacos (beef), and I ordered the BBQ Nachos with brisket. Had I known what the brisket was like beforehand, I would have chosen something else. The refried beans that were part of each meal were very pale and bland. According to my daughter, the tacos were ok, but the meat was dry and some of the lettuce was wilted, and definitely not worth the price. The fajitas were ok, but more veggies than meat. The nachos were mostly the disappointing refried beans, BBQ sauce, and sour cream. There was a bit of melted shredded cheese, but not nearly the amount there should be for nachos. Our ticket came to $108 ($94 before tip). This was double what this meal should have cost, especially for the quality of the food and size of the portions. I don't mind spending that much if I walk away feeling like I just had a really good meal. This time, I walked away feeling like I had been robbed and wishing we had gone to Taco Bell instead. On a side note, the paint in the pendant lamp hanging above our table was completely cracked and flaking and I was worried that it would fall onto the table andþor the food. I was just stopping in town for a bite on my roadtrip and was skeptical, but when I arrived it was peaceful, the lady was kind and very enjoyable AND ACTUALLY SMILES AT YOU, the food came out quick, was delicious, and they don't skimp out on protein and everything you love and want, and don't even get me started on the pie. When you eat somewhere, it's often easy to tell when something is off because it is reflected in your experience there whether it's the food, the price, the service or environment. My experience here was flawlessly amazing: quick and delicious food for a great price, amazing service, and a peaceful environment. When you eat here, you feel the care they give. Food was ok at best. Dinner was $200+ and they didn't have all the ingredients. One burrito was $30. Bathrooms weren't super clean, small and locks barely worked. Booths were small and service was super slow as there was one server/busser for the whole restaurant. The pie (that they are supposedly known for) wasn't great and the waiter messed up our order. They have pretty tasty food, but took a long time to bring lunch for 5, mine came out on the wrong bread (I took it anyway to avoid more delays), and the BBQ does not have a pronounced smoke flavor. I had the BBQ brisket sandwich (see photo), which was modestly-sized. The dipping sauce was good and the sourdough bread was excellent. Prices were a bit high for a sandwich. I wanted this dinner to be special, as it was a send-off for a young man entering our great Army, but the restaurant made it anything but memorable. The food was tasteless: scant, dried vegetables; meat dishes served cold in the center; and a chicken parmesan missing the parmesan altogether with an underwhelming "chef byou" sauce. Even the deviled eggs ($29.00!) were a disappointment, with only a thin sliver of crab meat that a grocery store could have done better. For nearly $400 (including an automatic gratuity for 5 over $50.00), the quality was nowhere near the price. Drinks--both mocktails and adult beverages--were more like pop-style mixes than crafted selections. As for dessert, the restaurant offered only a cupped portion with one spoon, placed on a crumb-covered table left from our previous meal. That lack of care said it all. The only positives: the hostess and servers were wonderful and the restaurant itself is beautiful. But for this important evening, I wish we had gone to Olive Garden or simply cooked at home. I actually opened a can of chicken noodle soup when I got home because I left hungry. Sadly, this was a one-and-done visit. Never again if I can help it. read more

You never know what you'll get at local diners, but this one hit the mark. I ordered the fish tacos (you get three small tacos, but plenty), along with what the server called "the best fries anywhere!", and fresh steamed broccoli. The server was nice, attentive, helpful with suggestions. The cozy bench seats, old-school swivel chairs at the counter, fresh pies in a case, all set the tone for a nice meal at an affordable price. The only downside of the meal was that they didn't have cocktail sauce or tartar sauce, but I made do with ranch dressing. All in all, I'd recommend to any weary (or not so weary) traveler. read more

This was easily the best meal I had in Holbrook (out of the 4 places we went), and perhaps the best meal I've ever had on a road trip. I didn't take a picture of the menu so I forget what the prices were, but considering how much food you get I found it very reasonable. I ordered the salmon which came with a salad (I think there might have been a choice of salad or something else) and 2 sides! The red-skinned mashed potatoes were amazing, and I would highly recommend them if they are available. My boyfriend got the brisket which also came with a salad and 2 sides. We finished absolutely everything, and were so impressed. I find that often "vegetables" from random diners tend to be things like canned peas or somewhat mushy stuff, so this place really surpassed expectations with how fresh the salad was and the great vegetables of the day. If I were to redo my stay in Holbrook to visit Petrified Forest National Park, I would just go here for every meal. read more

Stopped in on Thursday night after visiting Petrified Forest Natl Park. I ordered the classic burger and my boyfriend ordered the Rise and Shine burger. It was absolutely delicious, everything you'd want in a diner burger. Ended the night with a carrot cake which was also super good. Was so good that we came back the next night. Ordered the same thing. Got a slice of apple pie a la mode which was also so yummy. The servers were so so so amazing both nights, so attentive and sweet. They snuck my boyfriend a chocolate covered strawberry to surprise me with on Valentine's day. Shout out to Daniella! Thank you to the staff for a great experience. We took my brother and wife there for dinner, and was totally disappointed. To be honest the waitress warned us that they were training new cooks so they may be a little slow. No big deal we had time. Us girls, ordered hot tea, with lemon and honey. The lemons were so dried out it looked as if they had been cut and left on the counter for weeks. Or maybe thrown away and they dug them out of the garbage. They had a dry white film in the pockets of the dried out lemon sections. So nasty I didn't even want to touch them. The guys had hamburgers, the lettuce was the same way, so dried out in spots it looked like it had been left out for a week or two. I mean this is nasty looking stuff. the lemons and lettuce were both totally toxic looking. my sister in law had the carnie asada tacos, ate half of one and that was the end of her meal. I had spaghetti which wasn't bad, really. Our meal came to almost $100, with the tip it did. New cooks had nothing to do with the quality of food, that is up to the owner or manager. Had dinner, family of 4. Told to seat ourselves, No Menu. Took a few minutes for waitress to come by. Food prices are ungodly high. Almost $40 steaks, $16 burgers and $13 cheese quesadillas. (Other reviews discuss extremely high prices) Ultimately, Order chicken Caesar Salad with chicken, green chili cheese burger, and cheese quesadillas with beans and rice. Spanish Rice was crunchy like rice crispies and the chicken was so dry and tough. Reminded me of jerky. I was asked if everything was ok. I explained the food issue to the server. Her response..... she gave me the check. No drink refills, no offer of the deserts. In fairness the pies did look pretty good. We got the hint. Went to pay, I noticed that the Caesar Salad was not the price on the menu. Asked for a correction. She said she couldn't make a correction, didn't offer to correct overcooked chicken or the old dried out rice. Neither of which we ate. I gave up. Whipped out the credit card to pay. She states there is a convenience fee. Also not listed on the menu. It just infuriates me to feel like I'm just getting taking advantage of.
