I considered stopping for the night, in Holbrook, but I wasn't as tired as I thought I was, so I planned to have dinner, instead. I had previously looked up hotels and saw that Mandarin Beauty was recommended by someone. I love Asian food, so I decided to give it a try. Pulling up, I wasn't sure it was the right place. For some reason, the front reminded me of a Mexican place. Walking in, there was an adorable older woman seated at a table. I asked for a table for one and she just smiled. A pretty younger lady came out of the kitchen and indicated I could sit wherever. I was the only customer in the restaurant, late afternoon, on a Sunday. The menu was larger than I had anticipated. Many of the dishes were likely popular with American tastes. I didn't want anything too heavy, so I opted for a chicken rice noodle dish and some hot tea. I went to the restroom to wash my hands. The bathroom, like the rest of the restaurant, needs some help. It was clean, but a refresh would go far. Near the bathrooms and kitchen, there is a buffet station. It was larger than I expected. (Buffet is not available at dinner.) When I got back to my table, the tea and food were waiting for me. The portion size was bigger than I expected. The rice noodles were cooked just right, not overcooked. There were far more vegetables than I expected, which was a welcomed surprise. The chicken was tender, flavorful, and plentiful. I enjoyed every bite. I went to the pay and the total was a little less than $20. I only had two 20s, so I gave the pretty lady a $20 and asked for change, wanting to pay the bill with my other 20. She gave me the difference from the price of the bill and the 20. I giggled and gave her the other 20 and asked for change. Then, she realized what I was asking. Unfortunately, it seems that business had been slow, because I got a $5 and a bunch of dollar bills. I left the change from the bill and a nice tip. As I was leaving a truck pulled up. I hope they got some more customers that evening. I plan on returning on my next trip through! read more

We got take out while stopping in town for the night. It took a while to get the food but the staff were friendly and it came out fresh and hot. It was worth the wait. Our only issue was that my wife ordered the Mongolian beef, which is her got to everywhere. It was so spicy hot none of us could eat it. Looking at pics by others who reviewed this place I think we may have gotten the wrong item. Good food and great service! We called to get take out and it was ready in ten minutes. Food was hot and pretty good. We got the meal for two and it was plenty to split between 3 people with extra leftovers. Had the chicken chow main which was good but different then most chow meins, instead of your typical pan fried noodle it was in a creamier sauce but still tasty. The sweet and sour pork was average, not much meat but it was okay. Probably would pay the extra charge to get another entree instead. Egg rolls were yummy and came with sweet and sour sauce. I stopped by here for takeout during my road trip. The cashier, who seemed to be the owner, was very welcoming. The inside was very quiet and appeared to be not clean as a typical old Chinese restaurant. There are a lot of menus to choose from. Entrees were around $11.99~$16.99. There's no picture on the menu, so it took some effort to decide what to order. I ordered Garlic Beef and Kung Pao Chicken. The flavors were delicious, and the vegetables were fresh. I like vegetables more than meat, but I wish there's more meat. If you don't eat vegetables, I think there's not so much you can eat. Every entree comes with rice, a lot of rice. It was like half rice and half entree. For the price, I thought it was good. I think I can try this place again if I get to pass through Route 66 and crave Chinese food. read more

We stopped at this restaurant during our road-trip thru Route 66 and Petrified Wood National Forest. A very low key, no frill, hole in a wall place. We kept our expectation low. We ordered a chicken corn egg drop soup and house special fried rice. The server was a lone worker tonight but she was quick and polite. We couldn't find any chicken or corns in our soup, only slurry of eggs. BUT it tasted really good! I don't mind if they change an extra $2-3 dollars and add an actual chicken bits and corns. The fried rice.... OH MAN, I judge my Chinese restaurants by how good their fried rice is. This one take the cake!! The house special fried rice is one of the best I've eaten ever! It has the wok "hay", umami /smokey flavor to it. Good ratio between eggs, bbq pork and 2 good size shrimp. Too bad, i have to share with my hubby. :) If i can come back, I'll definitely have to try their other staples. I'm sad, this restaurant isn't in my neighborhood. The overall rating for this restaurant isn't great, but if you sort the reviews by date, everything from the last year is very positive! So I took a chance and came here for lunner (lunch/dinner) and I'm glad I did. The food wasn't knock your socks off delicious, but it was very solid. On of my biggest gripes about Asian restaurants is crunchy rice. Some otherwise very good places often bomb the rice. But the rice here was properly cooked and tasty! I got a shrimp dish with a white sauce and veggies and the flavor was mild but pleasant. It was nice to have some food with actual vegetables in it! And there were plenty of tofu options for the vegetarians or vegans. Some reviews complain about the ambience. Like most of you reading this now, I was on the road and found this place on my way to California. I looked at the reviews to make sure it's worth stopping. Don't be fooled by the low amount of stars. The food was really good, and tastes like it was cooked to order. Everything is crunchy and fresh, not soggy. Bathrooms are a bit dark and gloomy but clean. I do recommend eating here, very good food. read more

The food is ok. You can tell the meat is low quality because it's got cartridge in it every now and again. I got the lo mian and it's really greasy. I've never had greasy lo mian before especially not chicken. The dumplings were pan fried and really dry. They tasted bland too. Everything is a bit bland. The staff was really nice. The delivery boy was cute and very polite. Obviously new or tired. Almost mixed up the receipts. There is a lot of food so that's good. They definitely expect you to share. We both enjoyed our food and the delivery was quick and efficient and hot! We got way too much food, but we're starving after being on the road all day. We ordered two egg rolls (very good) the shrimp appetizer (nice and crispy, but a little dry) hot and sour soup(yummy) and then Kung pao chicken and moo shu pork( both delicious). The restaurant may be a small business but has the most wonderful food my taste buds and just tingling thinking about how good the food is and Love the how its always fresh off the stove. The service is very good always asking if your satisfaction is at its best. The overall experience is bad. We (4 people) went in around 6pm and got a table immediately. About 20 minutes later a waitress came and offered water and tea. Then she got our orders. About 50 minutes later we got out food. There are only about 4-5 tables in the entire restaurant, We did not know why it took them so long to cook 3 dishes, probably it takes a regular restaurant 10 minutes to do. Decided to Grab some take out after a very long day of driving - to tired to go anywhere else. I ordered my "go-to" schezwan chicken. Hubby got his usual Gen. Tso. I order this all the time - so I know it's a spicy dish- and I'm southern, so I like heat. To be fair, It says on their menu "spicy", as it does in every other Chinese menu. But this food was so spicy that I could barely eat any of it. The veg seemed fresh and I think it would have been really good if it hadn't been so over the top HOT AF. This place gets a bad rating from some people for some reason.... I personally thought it was very good. The food was great flavorful and more authentic than take out style Chinese restaurants. I knock one star off because there were flys in the dining area, possibly due to the front door not having an automatic close on it. Though we were the only ones in the restaurant, the food was outstanding and the service was excellent. Everything was freshly prepared and the food was delicious! Furthermore, the vegetables in the veggie delight were crunchy, satisfying, and amazing. Plus the general tso's chicken was superb. It was hot, crispy, and the sauce was very flavorful. I was very hesitant on trying this place after some former neighbors told us that the food was disgusting. That's because she doesn't season her food and she swears that she is a good cook. Our church bus tour stayed at Holbrook for one night before heading back to San Jose. I called the owner, Kevin, and asked if he can cater a fixed menu for our group of 97 people with buffet style After going back and forth choosing the menu, and agreed to the price, we arrived to the restaurant 1. Beef chow mein is no where to be seen. 2. Vegetarian chow mein is no where to be seen. They replaced with some terrible old vegetables stir fried (or something like that). They didn't refill the food. We were so tired and hungry. We had no choice to go anywhere else. I feel they tricked us. It was a terrible experience. They charged us an extra of 15% charge because we arrived late, which is understandable. However, they charged that 15% AFTER the tax and tip amount. I didn't realize until I came back to the hotel, which is too late. read more

We were traveling through on 40, staying overnight in a hotel and ordered delivery from from one of the restaurants listed in the rooms and offering a discount for folks staying at the hotel. Turns out they do not anymore. They do get one star for delivery, otherwise their food is "old", could be a week old. The Mongolian beef had actually started to turn and after one bite no more eaten. This is a family owned diamond in the rough of Holbrook. I come to this restaurant for its lunch buffet every chance I can get, and if I'm feeling particularly fancy (I don't usually eat out a lot) I'll go for dinner any time of the week. For the lunch buffet, it's cheap, has great food, and they maintain enough of a regular crowd to keep the buffet stocked. If you show up at 11, they'll probably still be making food, so aim for closer to noon. Their egg rolls are a bit greasy for my liking, but everything else meets chinese food expectations and you can't beat the price, free WiFi, and cable access. I also really love the sweet older woman who usually works at the front. read more
