It came with flour tortillas on the side. The tortillas had nice flavor and were very soft. They were different than tortillas I normally eat, but I'm used to Baja-style Mexican food. I thought the beans were flavorful, but a little on the dry side. I think they were on the plate too long before getting to me. Husband got the daily special with tacos. He enjoyed his meal and found it to be a good value. Dining room was clean and comfortable. Restroom was clean and well-stocked. If you are passing through, give this place a try. My husband went with the 3 barria tacos and I ordered the street tacos - one barria, one carne asada and one chicken. The barria was the best hands down! We left Shorty's with a new favorite taco and to hopefully find a recipe that matches theirs. The young ladies who took our order and served us were very friendly. It wasn't too busy so we had the chance to talk for awhile and learn the proper way to say "birria". Doesn't matter how you pronounce it - you will not be disappointed! We honestly thought it was just a coffee shop, but it turned out to be the perfect place for a light meal and a relaxing break. The shop has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere with unique décor featuring photos of the local community and its history, which gave it a lot of character. There are several seating options, including high-top tables for two, lower tables with four chairs, and bar seating. The menu offers much more than coffee--they also serve sandwiches, ice cream, and other drinks. We ordered the Southwest Chicken Quesadilla, which came with a side of salsa, and it was absolutely delicious. To drink, we had the Raspberry Cream Soda and the Detox Water with strawberries, lemons, blueberries, and cucumbers. Both were refreshing, and the detox water was especially good. The background music was just right--not too loud, making it easy to enjoy a conversation. The shop was spotless, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The ladies behind the counter were welcoming, and the gentleman who prepared our food did an outstanding job. This was the perfect way to wrap up our visit to the area. We left with full bellies, great conversation, and a wonderful last stop before hitting the road. Most of the diners were Navajo and Hopi Elders including an elderly Native War Veteran. I will never forget the kind service, the home made food and the genuine warmth of this place which also serves as a meeting spot for the Community.
