Came in a few days ago to buy my daughter new soccer cleats. A male employee asked if he could help. I told him my daughter's size, he led me over to the kids section, mumbled something and walked away before I could even say anything. My daughter wears adult sizes, so the kids section was useless. So we went to the back to look at adult cleats. The employees completely ignored us. I had my daughter try on a display cleat, it was a little tight, so when the same employee came walking up I figured he'd help us. Completely ignored us and went in the back room. Where we could hear him and another employee talking and laughing. He never came to help. The only other employee was on the phone the whole time, wouldn't look at us. So we left. We've bought so much soccer gear from here, but I think I'm done with them. Their service has always been kind of lacking, but this was ridiculous. read more

Big 5 is advertised as a "Guns and Ammo" store however avoid this place at all costs if you're looking to do a PPT. I don't have experience with buying a new firearm or ammo from their inventory, but PPT is a nightmare!!! I called a few days prior to confirm if they do PPT and the person over the phone told me they do, but only for long guns. Fair enough. Fast forward to the day of. When we got there, the person behind the counter said it would take at least 1 hour to get this done. Since I didn't have my "real" ID, I had to go home to grab my passport. Fair enough. My fault. However, the clerk refused to let the seller get his portion of the paperwork filled out while I go back home to retrieve my passport. The clerk also stated that since they only do PPT once every couple of years that he would have to go and read up on some books. So I don't get it, the clerk, who works behind the Guns and Ammo counter in the sporting goods department, has no damn clue on how the PPT process works? Incompetent! I will NEVER conduct business with this place again! I will advise all of you to do the same when it comes to firearms. I will inform all of my friends as well. What a nightmare!!!! read more

Went to look for basketball shoes. Didn't have reception, so had to leave in order to make a phone call. On my way out of the store, I was accused of not paying for an umbrella I'd purchased from Marshall's... I didn't even pass umbrellas in the store. Nor did I stop to look at anything other than sneakers... but if I had, they would have noticed that I walked in with an umbrella if I'd actually been serviced rather than barely acknowledged when walking in the door. Ultimately, I returned to buy sneakers. Not because of the customer service, but because of the price of what I needed on a short notice. read more

My 8 year old son and I went in to look a couple of things. My son wasn't wearing a mask and the manager started to follow me around asking me why my son wasn't wearing a mask. I told him that my son was medically exempt from wearing it. The manager had the nerve to tell me that my 8 year old son had to wait up front by himself... Told the manager he was crazy and that my son will be by my side while I look for something. The nerve to suggest a child to be up front by themselves. Respect the fact that my son is exempt. We wanna voice out our worst horrible experienced from one of your worker name "Amber" she was very rude, sarcastic, unprofessional and sour face not only to us but prior ahead of us she was helping gentleman first we thought and considered maybe she had a long day, not until she did the same thing to us. But then again you accept that job as a frontliner worker and you are supposed to be the company's asset by providing good quality of service. We wanna let you know we walked in into your store not just to buy worth $1.00 item but instead we walked out with more than that amount. But it doesn't matter how much your customer will spent, the most important is to give the respect that they deserves as a customer and as a person. Without your customer you don't have a extra paycheck that comes into your bank account. Being respectful and nice to people is free and it's not that difficult. I walked in was greeted , and proceeded to the firearm counter , and waited , and waited, and waited . Another gentleman walked in and was greeted , and he walked to the firearm counter , and he was helped within 2 minutes or less ! I looked at the manager in the eyes as he helped the Non-White gentleman , the manager is of color . When I told the clerk that he (manager) just cost the company money . I figured out in the checkout line why almost not items have their prices listed. $35 for a small foam roller. Literally two bucks worth of foam. Another $40 for a 15 pound medicine ball made of rubber. What an absolute joke. You have poor quality products at laughable prices, and you're so ashamed of this that you make it impossible to even see the tag. I went in looking for some shoes for running. I wasn't sure exactly which ones or brand I wanted to try and was very impressed with the help I got from the sales person in the shoe department. He was not pushy and offered suggestions to help me make my purchase and I didn't feel rushed doing it. I then went over to look at watches and again, the salesperson in that area was more then happy to answer questions I had. I ended up leaving the store with the shoes and a watch and checked out by a cashier who actually smiled and thanked me for my business. Customer service is about extinct now but here at Big 5 I left there feeling I was appreciated for my business and that's what will bring me back again. read more

Went there the other day it was 9: 50 in the morning. Hours of operation posted on door was 9: 30 opening. Doors locked, people inside so I knocked on the glass. Mgmt came to door said they open at 10. Walked away. Called district office they were no help. If hours are posted then 10 minutes would not have hurt to let me in. read more

I called to verify I could return a ping pong table I received for Christmas and the manager said no problem. When I got to the store The 1st thing they said was "Here's another return" Then they said they don't return ping pong tables. I told them it was defective and warped out of the box. They refused to return it. I Would have upgraded and got a better one if the had done the right thing. Now I will never shop there again and I do not recommend them to anyone else. read more

Was looking to purchase a firearm and take the test for firearm safety. They didn't have the firearm I was looking for which was understandable during these times. I asked to take the test and was told I could only take the test if I purchased a firearm to limit the number of people in the store. I mentioned that I had no problem making a purchase, but since the supply was limited I would just like to take the test and they said that wasn't possible. I currently stopped by and even though it was five till closing I knew what I was there for and urged for the employees help. I must say that this Big 5 location has the best customer service I've experienced at many others sporting good establishments. The tall gentleman with the glasses is always helpful and a employee with a dark trimmed beard was punctual to assist me. The best example of customer service ever! Alan, Parker, and Brian are truly wonderful and knowledgeable about ALL brands and capabilities. These guys are the epitome of exemplary service. I purchased a pair of Asics walking shoes at Redlands. They were polite and kind. Great deal but sadly the shoes didn't work out. I returned the pair I purchased here. Parker went out of his way to show me a selection of shoes I would have overlooked. But I really love my Asics 2000 which they don't carry. Out all the Big 5 chain this location is not as busy. It makes shopping a breeze. Alan is not your typical manager. He really cares about his customers and employees. Brian is a check out wiz and doesn't leave you at the register for a long wait time. I normally avoid chains. I love shopping at independent stores Nomad Adventures and A-16. This customer service is so amazing you think you were shopping at Nordstrom. read more

Was super excited to get new stores here in Banning. We were over the moon one was Big 5! Love the variety of items to choose from. They have excellent prices and sales often. The staff was very helpful and kind. I am from the east coast so having a place to get all weather gear is just great! Love being able to find sports gear for my kids so conveniently. Made Christmas shopping a breeze! Great store for younger kids too Love their selection of Beanie Boo's!! So, yes stuff for everyone. I use to think Big 5 was just bats, baseballs, footballs, etc..but they have a great selection of stuff. So YES! Go there! Support our city! Shout out to the manager for an excellent staff.
