Worse service aver !!! The way the manager talk to me was a shame !!! I came to return item completely sealed in his original box. The "manager" opens the pox and try to look for a damages .... he saw very tiny scratch and refused to refund me !!! Even when I told him that he can change me stocking fee. Went here to get a few things. Upon walking in I thought it was okay, small selection of stuff, kinda cramped. As I was looking around I noticed that a lot of things were missing prices... it was kinda confusing to figure out and try to compare things. I asked for help on something, they requested someone to come to my area over the intercom, and no one ever came to help me. Luckily I figured it out while waiting and browsing for so long. Pretty poor customer service and the lady at the cash register was sorta cold and rude. Not many sporting goods options around Burbank anymore though... prices are decent and they had quite a few things on sale. Which was nice. I walked out spending less than I thought I would. I came back since this place is near by my house. Several staffs used to seem just too busy to talk to each other(personal talk) so they don't even have enough time to help the customers; however, the service was little bit better than before. I went Saturday morning I needed to exchange a BBQ grill I bought the night before at another big five. I found a better one for the same price after I got home, my luck the store I had originally purchased the grill from didn't have any in stock. So as soon I walked in to the store the girl at the register was very polite. Said good morning with a smile. She called her manager for the exchange. Really tall not to happy to help older gentleman. They only had one register open and I was not the only one exchanging or retuning items. The line got real big really fast. The young girl was trying hard to move the line along but was in need of help. The manager finally decided to help. He was not happy doing his job. It was noticeable on his face and tone of voice. I'm glad my trip to this store was to exchange an item and I don't have to go back again.. I feel bad for the staff that needs a job and had to put up with that manager. Today I went into the Big-5 at 510 Victory Blvd. to buy a pair of running shoes. I found a pair I wanted until I heard this person being rude to his employee's. I walked over and he was a tall, lumbering black man. He was the manager. (Didn't get his name) I went closer him to see if he would greet me. He did after I looked at him. Prior to that, one of his employees started to make conversation and asked him, "are you in tomorrow?" His response was "unfortunately" followed by a big "sigh".i felt bad for these employee's to have to work around such a negative figure. I rarely write post's or complaints but this one I felt was necessary. I would have purchased the shoes I wanted but I didn't care to be in the store he was running any longer. You can see that these employees were CLEARLY not happy. I hope a Big-5 big wig we'll see this and do something about it! I mean, look at the ratings of this place. I walked in and went straight to the gun counter to ask about some ammo I saw on sale... After waoting about 10 minutes with another guy we mutually decided that asking the cashier for help was a good idea. She called someone to the gun counter and about 10 minutes later a manager slowly made his way over. As I was asking about the ammo I was getting answers from the manager like he wanted nothing to do with me and as if I was a disgusting person for owning weapons... I was VERY turned off by his attitude and after waiting that long to buy ammo I would rather pay an extra $1 a box than be treated like that! I'm just gonna stay away from Big 5 all together and buy my ammo online from now on like I usually do. Buy my Sporting goods froms Dicks and buy my Shoes from a shoe store. Since Sport Authority and Sport Chalet both closed down this has been my go to store. It is a shame that they don't price match. They are always nice and the cashier gave a nice discount (10%) on a open item on top of the sale price. They don't have the greatest selection, but I like what they do have. read more

hopeful at the sight of some reasonably-priced bicycles displayed outside the front door. let down by the usual poor customer service and spotty inventory inside. nobody knows anything or where it is, like a simple fanny pack. first guy passed me off to a second guy, supposedly a manager, whose only solution was to try and give me a hard sell on a strip of stretchy nylon that he insisted would hold a wallet and set of keys as i demonstrated to him that it was not possible. he then explained how i could just leave the wallet behind and take whatever cards i needed along with my keys and then went into some bs about using one of these things to carry $6000 in cash on a trip to nyc and his wife didn't like him taking so much money out of the accounts, bla bla bla. i should get a job managing a big 5 if it lets me trip off to the big apple with six large in a $15 nylon sock. typical big 5, they either have it or they don't. read more

I came in for my son he wanted to shop around . Then a few minutes later my three year old told me she had to use the restroom. We ask a worker named gio and he said no we don't have a restroom . My daughter was about to pee on her self . This made my shopping experience very stressful . Then my older son ask a women worker with red hair for the restroom and she said yes right this way . I went to the store today and I was trying to buy a knife and Frank was helping me out but had an attitude problem he probably didn't get laid last night and that was the issue, people like Frank should not work in customer service as manager especially. Since I was a kid I remember big five was the store that I could always go to and buy All my outdoor equipment but today I had the worst experience I believe the victory big five will soon close due to customer service being zero. My friend and I went to go buy a ping pong table here because it was on sale, after we get it home we realized that this table wasn't the easy assembly it was advertised. We went to return the table and we were met with some of the worst customer service anyone could imagine they were very reluctant to accept the table back and the manger was very rude to us. I came to this location to exchange the hiking shoes I purchased from the tujunga store. I came here during my lunch break to save time as I was leaving for my trip after work. The manager wouldn't accept the return as he felt the shoes were used. I'm not sure how else you would find out if hiking shoes are comfortable without trying them. The shoes caused the bottom of my feet to burn and were awful. Nonetheless, I went back to tununga and got an exchange no questions asked. I will never come back to this location. read more

You want to see what the crappiest department stores in the US looked like 30 years ago? Go into any Big 5. I recommend this one in particular because not only have they preserved the horribly antiquated layout/design of stores which have all gone out of Business (Mervyn's, JC Penny, Montgomery Ward, etc.), but it's messy and disorganized to boot. Anyhow...on over to the gun counter. I squeeze my way through the maze of shit all over the place and find two employees behind the counter talking. One guy was getting ready to go on a break, but took a special moment out of his busy day to ask about the 'bonus' the other guy (who reminded me of Dwight in "The Office"--I think his name tag said BRIAN) was getting. Dwight confirms that the rumor of his big bonus are, in fact, correct. And then scuttles around a bit before saying, 'yeah, it's for $30,000'. Silence followed. Then he qualifies his statement with 'you know, I'll just get my part of it, not the whole thing, not sure how much'. The conversation continued. All while I was standing right there, 2' away, staring right at him. Perhaps he thought I was impressed, too? Not sure, but fortunately I had been prepared for absolutely horrible customer service before I walked in (thanks Yelpers!). I'll cut the cashier some slack for nearly doing the same. Her "I cut my finger yesterday" story was at least graphic and interesting." Always packed to the gills with merchandise, I find Big 5 trying to do too much in such a small space. It's like walking into a hoarder's house with something squeezed into every nook and cranny. That's true at this location as well as my "local" store in Thousand Oaks. Big 5 does have quite a selection, but rarely do I find what I need. What's up with that? Aisles are cramped, but prices are good if you do actually find what you're looking for. I have to admit that I enjoy shopping the bigger, roomier Sports Authorities or Dick's when given the choice. Perhaps a little more pricey, but certainly more comfortable. read more

I Just bought a short for 25 dollar which had whole in one of the pockets and I didn't see. No adult skate helmets. You sell sporting goods right? I guess your concept of "sales" is to tell me that Sports Authority should have it. If I had wanted to go there, I would have. Sporting goods should be one stop shopping. I should NOT have to go one place for pads and another for a helmet. My husband bought the pads but frankly I wouldn't have. Big 5 has all the major brands in sports equipment and attire. The store wasn't a mess but it wasn't the easiest to navigate either. It seemed like there weren't specific sections for clothing so men, women, and children were all mixed in together. Overall not a bad experience and I would visit Big 5 again. read more

This Big 5 has terrible customer service. First, I asked a salesman if they had other tennis gear because I didn't see a display by the tennis balls. He asked what I was looking for and I said, "Tournagrip for a tennis racquet" and he said "No, we just have what's on the rack" and pointed to the display. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about because the item was hanging right in front. I then went to a glass display case intending to purchase a $60 pair of sunglasses for my husband. There were two salesmen behind the case, talking to each other. Neither asked if I needed any help, and walked past me to another part of the store. There were only two other customers in the whole store and out of the four employees only Kalie, the cashier, was nice, helpful, and kind enough to apologize for the others. It's too bad The Sports Authority up the street went under; they were so much nicer. Burbank is stuck with this Big 5 read more

Very cool store with different type of sport stuff! We went there to buy winter clothes for mountains. Good quality and reasonable prices. But there weren't many colors to choose. Can't wait to try everything I bought on the waterproof test with snow!! Recommend it to all sport lovers! read more

We went to look for a bike this weekend, and they had a bunch locked up in front of the store, when we asked someone about checking out one of the bikes, we're told "we don't sell floor models" that is not what I asked, I asked to check out on of the bikes, I'm not buying something I can't sit on and check out.... the sales associate just looked at us like "what, I have to unlock these?" and the response of having said they could unlock the bikes for us to look was so unenthusiastic, I said I didn't want any one to be put out of the way for it, and we proceeded to leave without seeing anything. I'm not a big fan of Big 5 stores but they were having a huge sale so I went to get what I needed. They were nice but the cashier was a little unexperienced. Luckily the manager was right behind her and was able to help me get what I needed and be on my way. If you have to use the bathroom you have to go through their employee area passed a lot of merchandise and into a one stall bathroom that has no toilet paper, no seat covers and barely enough paper towels to dry your hands. Their shoes were spread out all over and not in the boxes so I had to spend 45 minutes digging through until I found one pair in my size I thought The last of the kind. But when I tried them on one was an 8 and another a 7. I told them I was fine with it. They refused to sell them to me even though the computer showed it was the last pair so there was no way it could be rematched. They would rather throw them away. Should never have pointed out the problem since I was in desperate need of water shoes. Boxes filled the store, making difficult to go down aisles and find anything.
