They sell them here!), workout gloves, pepper spray (for when I go jogging) and have purchased hand/feet warmers for hiking/camping here too. Something about this store really threw me off. I was expecting something more the size of the Sports Chalet at Fallbrook, but the interior of this Big 5 can barely fit its merchandise, let alone any customers. Good luck squeezing through the tiny aisles and browsing the somewhat selective inventory. I will, however, say that the customer service was tops. Everyone there was polite and friendly (which is a feat when you're wearing long sleeves in 90+ degree weather, even with the AC on.) John in particular handled the return of our broken tent and took on personal responsibility for making sure we would get our new one in a few days, going so far as to take down our number so he could give us a call when it was ready to pick up. I really appreciate when people go out of their way to give customers the time of day. If not for the ambiance, sports enthusiasts and others should check out this location, as there is some rather specific stuff you could pick up if you know what you're looking for. Great selection, great deals, and a kind staff. We stopped off here to pick up hiking shoes for a hike later that day, and found a couple perfect pairs for an awesome sale price. One employee was nice enough to wait on us and check the back for any inventory to suit our needs. Some sections of the store were a bit disheveled and messy, and the sale section would be nearly impossible to sift through, but other than that we had a great experience here. This old location is nestled in the heart of Canoga Park. It's a small store but it's jam packed with lots of sporting goods. Need a quick gift, sometimes I'll run in and find some cool stuff. By box store standards this is a small store, but it's stocked with an enormous amount of inventory. In fact there's parts of the store where you have to walk sideways to get between the racks. I do almost all my clothes shopping in here, all of my shoe shopping, and of course I pick up the occasional piece of sporting equipment too. I had a snow trip to prep, and being time sensitive, I rushed to Big 5. I was so pleased to pick up 5 snow boots for my whole family. Prices ranging in $22.50 - 49-99. It was such a bargain. I also grabbed a pair of gloves and a beanie. I was definitely a happy buyer but I wasn't a happy shopper. Customer service was horrible. I asked for help on the sizes and I stacked the boxes on the floor. None of those boys helped me to the front cashier. I had to schlepped all 5 boxes of shoes to the front of the stores. And they just waited for me at the cashier, smiling as I made my ways in between the racks. Not cool!! read more

This location is one of the smaller stores in the chain. The ailes seem to be too narrow and difficult to navigate. Each of the mini department areas have a slightly lower stock and selection as opposed to other Big 5 locations. Aside from that, there is a variety of items for the sports and outdoor enthusiast. They do carry items for the seasonal team sports, such as, football, baseball,soccer, hockey, basket ball and volley ball. There are also items for the individual sports enthusiasts, such as, fishing, hiking, camping, tennis, Ping Pong, skate boarding, snow boarding, roller blading, cycling and others. There are even items for the paint ball, archery and target shooting individuals. For those who don't play sports but like to watch, there are collectable items from your local NFL, NCAA, MLB, MLS and NHL teams. Don't forget to check out their footwear too. They carry most of the required footwear for the team and individual sports. This location does have good customer service. It is nice to be greeted by one or more employees as you walk in. You get the sense that they are there for you when you need their help. The parking situation presents two options. The first is to park in the street, but only during permissable times of the day. The second is to find a a spot in the parking lot located directly behind the store. This place is always good to hit on a Black Friday especially when everyone else is storming the shopping malls. read more

This review is for 10/8/2011. After a day of hiking, I needed to get some simple shoes for a golf tournament that I am going to in a couple days for my company. I don't play golf, but I wanted to get nice shoes to impress some clients. I didn't want to get golf shoes, just nice white tennis shoes and have fun at the course. Place to get cheap shoes was at Big 5 Sporting Goods in Canoga Park. My friend and I arrived at 3pm and just headed straight to the shoes. I saw a bunch that I wanted, but every time I picked up a shoes, they didn't have it or the shoe box had two left shoes. Really?! Two left shoes?! Where did the two right shoes go? I finally saw a nice pair of U.S. Polo Association Shoes for $19.99. With me being an e-member, I get to save 10% off on sale and 20% on regular items. I thought I was going to leave right away, but I wanted to check the golf items. Unfortunately, they had all these clubs, balls, and specialty items, but we did not see any tees. Really?! You have all these items, but not tees. As we were about to leave, apparently the whole the store wanted to leave as well. We waited in line for about 5-7 minutes because a kid's baseball bat wouldn't scan and a person waiting for help at the shoes wasn't being serviced. Finally, I was rung up by the girl and it was on sale for $19.99, but the original price was $49.99. I had my discount for $2 off for $17.99. My Grand Total Please (Drum Rolls).....$19.56. Big 5 is great to get cheap shoes. Usually get my boots from Big 5, but I still have a fresh pair of boots at home brand new and ready when my current boots are torn apart. Went in to purchase some hiking boots. Had to ask for help for which the sales associate was bothered to have to go look for something. Then when I wanted to ask questions and try on other shoes there was no one to help. There were many people not recieving help. So I decided to inform the cashier on my way out. To which she simply said ok. No I'm sorry let me get you some help or let me get the Manager just ok. It was obvious that she nor anyone else in the store cared. Not only did I want hiking shoes but also an army cot and a few other camping supplies. They lost out on a $100 or more purchase.
