Pretty disappointed in this store. I recently purchased a CO2 powered bb gun and found that it was waaaaayy too weak for its price. I decided to return it. Well, since I used the sample pack of BBs given with the gun, I could not return the item (I WASN'T GIVEN THIS INFO UPFRONT, BEFORE BUYING THE ITEM). The lady who was dealing with the return was very rude about it as well. She didn't have a name-tag and had her purse (looked like she was on near the end of her shift). Blonde lady with blue eyes. Rude. Thanks Big 5 and thanks to the manufacturer of the bb gun that I couldn't return a $128 item because maybe under 50 BBs weren't there. read more

I go in this sporting goods store in search of binoculars and at first i was looking around and called over an employee. I asked for 10x50 binoculars and she just picks two up w/o telling me where they are from and their price. I had to ask how much and she tells me the price and BRAND name of binoculars. I asked for the name as in the product name and she tells me the brand. She looks at me like im stupid and points at the brand on the binoculars. I was speechless. I wanted to see the model of the binoculars and see if they were multi coated or not but before i got the chance to look at the sides to see the model she takes it puts it back and walks away without asking me for anything else. read more

I mainly go to Big 5 for their shoe sales because it is like they have a sale every week. The past few years I've been only going to Big 5 for everyday shoes to wear. Occasionally I look at the boxing gear to see if there are gloves or punching bags on sale. I don't going into Big 5 expecting good customer service because of past experiences, it's mediocre at best. Though my last visits I was greeted and helped very quickly. I generally have a very long wait at the firearms counter before a disgruntled employee is sent over to semi-answer my questions. My husband and I went in to check out some sale items, he had at least 8 items already picked out when I asked to use their restroom. I am currently 8 months pregnant and it's very obvious by looking at me. The guy that I asked originally said yes, and looked like he was looking for a key. However the lady who had been helping my husband at the counter steps up and say "no, the closest bathroom is across the parking lot at Taco Bell." I looked back at the guy who had said yes, and he was just staring at his co worker, as co fused as I was. My husband asked her "so is there a restroom or not?" Her response "yes, but she can't use it". My husband handed her all his items, grabbed my hand and walked out. Terrible customer service, incredibly rude employees! There was no explanation as to why I couldn't use their restroom, and the guy who originally said yes even looked dumbfounded by her response to us. I went to Big 5 today and they had a sale on their Nike slip on and of course they only go to a size 10 in women shoes so they don't cater to women of larger sizes so I had to get the men Nike slip on that wasn't all that girly and I wanted the pink women Nike slip ons. This happens to me in every shoe store I go to because they don't have my size that I need. I asked the manager why they don't order larger sizes and she stated that she didn't know why they don't. This was not the answer I was looking for and her being the manager she should know her products. I will never go back to big 5. I will order my shoes online from now on. Big 5 sucks!!! read more

Very bad customer service. I had an expired bonus buck handed out by another big 5 store by mistake on Black Friday 2018. The coupon was from 2018. The store manager Tammy didn't want to listen to my story, thought that I made it up and didn't want to help me. I called the other big 5 store manager and they acknowledged that it was a mistake. Tammy never apologized. I wasted my time at this store, probably try not to go here any more. read more

I have been here several times for myself to try to find a pair of really good running shoes, but the guys in the shoe section were rude and kept walking passed me to get to the shoe storage area without even acknowledging me whatsoever. When they were finished helping everyone, they just stood there at the door to the storage area. Even with me waving at them to get their attention, they just ignored me. Which forced me to walk across to them and asked them if they can get me the 2 pairs that I had picked and was having a hard time deciding on and wanted to try them on before deciding on the pair I was going to get. Without a word or any sound at all, one of the guys just walked through the door to get the shoes. He came back out and rudely tossed them at me with a disgusted snort and went on with the conversation that I "rudely" interrupted. I was so disgusted with that, I just dropped the shoes on the ground and walked out. NEVER SHOPPING HERE EVER AGAIN. I would rather go to Sports Authority or Sports Chalet. read more

Went to store to purchase a .22 rifle. The lady we originally talked with was was helpful. Then she had to go home and she was replace with Greg, who I feel had a personal problem with my wife and I. I want to like Big 5, and it's not that I dislike the store. I guess I just prefer Sports Authority or Sports Chalet. Big 5 has a very limited selection, at least in the camping department, and their prices are almost always higher. The service is typically eager, and I appreciate that. STAY AWAY!!!!! The employees have never heard of customer service. I walked in and asked the cashier if they take Apple Pay and she said yes, but after shopping for 20 min. they evidently don't take Apple Pay even though according to a different cashier "the machine will do it and I've done it before, but we aren't supposed too". I had a really bad experience at this store. A few weeks ago I went in to buy my son a BB gun for his birthday. The lady behind the counter sees me looking and leaves. Later I ask someone at checkout for help and she calls over the same lady from before, with tattoos on her arm, who arrives a few minutes later again refusing to make eye contact with me. She ask other customers if they need help and I approach her requesting help. She immediately freezes and just stands still. I ask her questions but she only responds with minimal responses and again makes no eye contact with me. I try over and over to ask more questions but can see she is not interested in helping me. I say thank you and leave only to notice her go on to greet other customers and chat with coworkers. Don't like it when people discriminate! read more

Its closing time and the employee and manager are taking merchandise outside the store in the store. An employee accidentally hit me with a big boat. He's seen me before it happened and still proceeded with NO CARE!!! (This can be perceived to be a form of an assault). I dont deny he apologized after but he acted like a punk. I Complained to the Manager, Dont know what kind of manager you screen to hire but obviously did not have the proper training. He also apologized but does not know how to pacify the situation and was more worried about closing the store rather than making sure customers have a good experience. little does he know that my wife and I are educated professionals who are also managers as well and an advocate in the health and medical field. My wife right away noticed that the Manager made a mistake by taking his employee's side - A big NO! NO! if your a manager and dealing with an unhappy customer, which made the situation more delicate. We decided NOT to purchase our items due to disappointment and dismay. I have kinda small feet, a size 5 1/2 - 6 (smallest in my family at least) and I can never find cleats that fit me right as most places have kids sizes and then start their women's size at 7 - 7 1/2. Everytime I go here I find the exact perfect shoe. Soo happy. And the staff are really friendly and know what they are talking about. I just moved to the Elk Grove area and went to the Laguna Blvd store to return a pair of shoes my husband brought a day ago (unworn , unopened shoes with receipt). I didn't have the credit card that my husband used to make the original purchase so I asked about cash or other options to return the shoes so I would not have to go back home. Manager rudely interrupted my conversation with cashier and began to spout of some obscure rule about how the return cannot be done without the credit card b/c the STORE pays a fee for using credit card svcs. And, then abruptly walked off to do something else. Your cost of doing business are not my problem! Your lack of customer service skills is a problem. If you don't have solutions, then keep quiet. Also, the return policy is not posted in the store nor is it printed on the back of the receipt. I returned home to get the credit card and will never shop at the Laguna Blvd store again b/c I refuse to spend money where the manager shows such poor discretion and customer service skills. BTW, I was going to look around the store for boxing equipment for a new home gym. However, I definitely won't consider spend another $ to support this store or Big 5. Went there looking for a Remington 870 12 gauge shot gun. The lady helping pointed to a rifle. I told her "No that's a rife." . She started getting rude insisting it was a shotgun, just because it had the wrong tag on it. So i gave up on the Remington. So after that I asked to see another brand about equal in price to what I wanted to spend and she said I couldn't look at it because she had just sold it. I informed her that I had never seen that brand and just wanted to check it out in case I wanted to order one. So guess what? No! Then maybe you shouldn't have it on the small sales rack with the ones that you can look at. So the staff can't tell between a rife and a shot gun. Shouldn't employees be taught a little about the items they are selling! Horrible customer service. Will never shop there again! Not because they didn't have the gun I wanted, but the rude uniformed employees. Customer service should should be #1! What a waste of time and fuel going there. I used to love Big 5. Ive always liked how they sell the same products as other stores at a cheaper cost. Unfortunately, my first time at this Big 5 location was very unsatisfactory. I stopped in earlier this evening looking to purchase my 10 year old son a basketball hoop for his birthday. The store associate just sighed and pointed toward where the basketballs are. They had one product on display (not in the location the rude associate pointed me to), but I was looking to purchase something even nicer for him. He has been wanting this for a long time, and I always got the cheap knock offs for him, until now. This one was at about the $400 price point, and I asked one of the managers if They had a nicer one in stock, if Big 5 sells a nicer one online or at another location, and then finally if he knew somewhere else I could go to get a higher quality product (as he told me the one on display was the only one they had). He answered no to all of my questions and was very rude in doing so. "Uhh... This is as nice as it gets. What did you think you were looking for?" "Sorry to say but nobody else has a better product than this. Why wouldn't you want to buy this one?" "I have one in stock and one only. I told you that already, maybe I didn't speak clear enough." Unbelievably horrid customer service. Very disappointing as I had always loved Big 5. Seeing as when I left I was able to find a MUCH nicer product elsewhere, where the employees were MUCH nicer and MUCH more knowledgeable about the products they sell, I don't think I will return to Big 5 ever again. read more

I brought the partially assembled table back,NO QUESTIONS ASKED, and was able to exchange it for an upgraded model,by paying the difference. I called this store (prior to going there) and talked to the gal who explained that returning unused shoes with a charge receipt would receive store credit. Usually the policy is 30 days but if it was a Christmas gift, they'd relax the policy. Fair enough. The Big5SportingGoods WS return policy states that if the return is over 30 days, the customer shall receive store credit. Fast forward...I arrived at the store and it was confirmed that the shoes were not worn. The tall, grey haired, guy working at the shoe area rudely blurts out "no returns after 30 days" and turns his back to me. Now, I am not a sensitive person, but this guy was pretty rude. I have never have been spoken to by any retail store employee like that before. Even my Dad agreed that this guy was unnecessarily rude. Thereafter, after deciding that I'd simply get store credit and get the hell out of this store (as fast as possible), I made my way back to the cashier area and requested store credit from the cashier gal (who was actually pretty nice). The store manager (Tammy Hernandez) interrupts and says that no store credit should be issued since it has been longer than 30 days. After explaining what I was told the previous day (by a Big5 employee), her response, was essentially, "I don't care... 'I am the Manager'". Yes, no kidding. I simply said, I'd like store credit please. She just turns her back (just like the shoe salesman had done) and walks off. You know, perhaps I am a bit old-fashioned, but I have never experienced such rudeness from any other retail store - ever. I used to enjoy going to other Big5 stores in the past. It probably is isolated to this one store, but I'll tend to steer clear of Big5 stores in the near future Avoid the 6608 Laguna Blvd, Elk grove store unless you want their staff to ruin your day even after doing your earnest due diligence trying to avoid such confusion.
