Easy to find location with a slightly frustrating parking lot depending on the time of day (to note, there's a parking lot directly behind it - but there are signs say not to park there for Big 5, so we obeyed like good kids). We were cruising in because we noticed a sale on tents and between music festivals and road trips, it seemed like a necessity. The aisles were pretty packed with gear, but things were fairly well labeled and sales were everywhere. We actually got lost enjoying ourselves in the sports gear and reminiscing about our good ol' days. I went here for baseball glove oil where I saw the store pretty clean. I asked the guy smoking in the front where I could find it (he was wearing a Big Five Employee shirt). Once I reached the register there was the manager, the cashier and two other employees all talking about their Thanksgiving plans. Now I like a little chat, but wow I do not need nor care to be in the center of a 4 way conversation. Continue it once I am out. Prices are good, and parking is okay. 2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 219/365 This is your run of the mill Big 5. Nothing special, but they were stocked in a lot, and they had a good sale going on for the shoes. My friend and I stopped by to pick up a waist slimmer belt for the gym and they had the plus sizes for $10! Good deal, picked up two. I always shop here for my two sons sporting needs. Sometimes their prices are too tricky, but it's OK. The selection of wide and we bought soccer stuff, basketball, swim suits, and lacrosse sticks and balls. Very convenient location and parking was not an issue at all. read more

It's proximity to my home and the occasional mark down or 'rack' sales is why I use this location, otherwise I prefer to buy my outdoor clothing from the "R" company that is popular but costs more but the quality is truly a lifetime. I will never go to this location again. They are sexist and racist. I went there tonight after finding a shotgun online that was on sale until tomorrow 7/16. I called in advance to make sure they still had some because online it said low inventory please call of availability. They said yes they still have some and I asked how many to gauge if maybe they'd possibly sell out before I got there. Being somewhat new to the gun community I brought along my guy friend who happened to be Filipino and has a darker skin tone. We ask to have someone come help us at the gun counter. It took about 5 minutes of standing around for Ryan to head over and immediately he's giving us funny looks. I had no idea what was going on but thought he was acting strange. My friend proceeded to explain that I was looking to buy a shotgun. Ryan asked she is looking to buy? And I said yes and he kept staring at us, still confused by his glares I asked if I could see one. Then this is when he started saying here's the thing. And my friend immediately cut him off and asked him if he was assuming this was a straw exchange (meaning that I was legally buying a firearm for the purpose of giving it to someone who cannot buy a firearm for whatever reason). Pretty much he said that they got 3 calls back to back about shotguns and that it was suspicious. I explained that the shotgun was on sale and the website says to call so that's probably why people called... (duhhhh) This banter went back and forth after we both stated that the gun was for me and that we both have firearm safety permits and nothing was stopping either of us from being gun owners. He stated again the phone calls and I questioned if I came by myself if this would be a different situation and he didn't have an answer. I asked if it was because I'm a female and he didn't have an answer. So I asked him then if it's because of the phone calls then that means that you aren't going to sell any other shotguns to anyone else tonight and he said no if I feel comfortable selling one to someone I will. So that right there shows that he is sexist and racist. He didn't want to sell to a white girl because he felt that a darker skin male was using her to illegally obtain a firearm. Complete bullshit! A female is allowed to buy a firearm to protect herself. If she brings a guy maybe it's because she wants to get as much insight as she can and make the best decision based on an unbiased, well gun educated individual rather than a crappy salesman's opinion who knows nothing about her and her shooting capabilities. this store is rather run down and dirty and disorganized; the parking lot is small; the traffic is bad with all the construction and over development in Glendale; Glendale used to be a nice city and clean but no longer; this store has managers that are rude and rather discriminatory in their consumer practices; the prices are average but the selection and the store are below average. the internet will probably put them out of business within 3 to 5 years. read more

The store is packed with merchandise. I went looking for water shoes, was instructed to be back and make a right. I couldn't find my size and the area was disorganized, other people had been sorting through the mess and it seems no one restocks or straightens things on the shelves. Well it looks like Connor the "manager" needs to go back to customer service training, because he doesn't have an idea what that is, here is my story folks: Yesterday,12/08/16 my wife and I went to buy a 4pc per pack 12 mm mats the ones you put on the floor so your weights won't damage it. Any ways we got 2 packs and we saw they had a $14.99 sale price out of $24.99 cool deal! so we went and paid for it all fine until then. Next day when I was installing the mats I realized I was short so I went back to get one more pack at the store in Glendale where I bought the first 2, I graved the pack and went to the cashier to pay for it, the cashier scanned the item and the price was $24.99 plus tax and I told the cashier that I purchased the same item yesterday for $14.99 so, she looked at the "manager" a goofy looking dude and looked the computer and said to me that this particular item has never been on sale that he doesn't understand what I was talking about with a very bad attitude , so I left the store and told my wife what happened and I ask her to take a pic of the receipt to my cell so I can show this guy. She did and I took the pic of the receipt on my cell and show it to him and with a bad attitude told me that he doesn't know how I got that discount, and I told him you are the manager and you don't know what is going on in your store obviously I was not lying to you, bottom line are you going to honor this price and he simply turn his back and walk away saying no I'm not. I really don't understand how can you have a such a rude element working for you, if he needs the job get him one stocking at the back of the warehouse not dealing with clients, now days is all about customer service, we have a lot of shopping choices to purchase stuff the old good saying CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT is going down the drain because elements like this. as far as I'm concerned you are not going to see my hard earned money going to your store. read more

Decent store and selection of items but customer service is terrible. Their phone lines are always ringing busy and when you go in the employees try to avoid you and when you get them to help they totally act annoyed and give you short answers or say "we don't have that in stock" without even looking. On one occasion an employee said that and later while speaking with the manager I was told "oh ya we have that" and the manager went and got the item for me! Its a shame but that's what happens when you hire children to run a busy and don't train them. read more

I agree with several of the other reviewers that Big 5 is an odd mixture of stuff. In looking for inexpensive, waterproof hiking boots this was the place to go. In the past 2 weeks I have now been to several Big 5 locations and felt compelled to congratulate Glendale at being the absolute best one. The store was clear of boxes, full of merchandise, and well-organized. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was able to get in and out in 10 minutes! One suggestion, there seems to be on going sales that change frequently. I am not sure of their price adjustment policy, but it could be worth asking about. read more

With the good comes the bad. My first experience here was absolutely awful! The sales associates were very uninformative when it came to products they see Every day and the cashiers were just as bad. However, this time when I went I was hoping for a change. As I made my way to the shoe department right away I saw 2 "men" talking. I asked them for a certain shoe in my size and they both looked at me like i was interrupting there oh so important conversation. One just completely walked away from me and the other (whos name I couldnt even begin to pronounce) rolled his eyes and went back to get my shoes. After waiting a good 10-15 minutes he came out and said "we dont have your color or the size you need"t. So i ended up taking a different shoe in a different color. I went to the register to proceed with my purchase and once again the cashier was horrible. Im assuming she was new(but you know what they say about assuming). I was about to just completely walk away when a silver lining came through. I'm not sure if she was the manager or not but I believe her name was Desiree. She came and assisted the cashier in finding the correct barcode for my shoes. I guess the shoes didnt match the box that they were in. She was FANTASTIC! She pulled me over to the other register and fixed whatever number was wrong. She then asked the very common "Was there anything else you needed today?' I giggled a little and half way sarcastically said "well I wish you guys could've had the shoes I Really wanted". After explaining my situation she immediately apologized for my experience and personally went to the back and ended up finding the shoes I originally wanted. And as if that wasnt enough, she even ordered another pair from another store for me. She explained how it would take about a week for the shoes to come in but she would call me as soon as they got there. So i guess you take your chances when entering a Big5! read more
