This Big 5 has been around forever. I'm 29 and it has been here as long as I can remember. Being that they are pretty much the only sports-type store on the East side I imagine that is what has kept them in business. There are no Dick's, Sport Chalets, or any other big-box sports retailers in the area. The store itself is small, cramped, and crammed with merchandise. I walk INTO clothes and sports equipment and racks of weights here -- because there is nowhere else to go, but into them and THEN around them. It is really CRAMMED with merchandise, every spare corner is filled, the floor where all the clothes are situated leaves no room to maneuver. The GOOD thing is they have sporting good, clothes, and shoes at SUPER discounted prices. Also, going here saves me from having to make an hour+ long trip to Henderson or the South side of town for sporting goods. They do not have everything and they may not be the "nicest" place. "Manager/BOSS " is selling his employees. They're supposed to sell to you but instead they like to keep the items. For example "POKÉMON" they had a big box to sell but they refused to open the box. They saw they had etb and they said "they're not gonna sell them" like wth why? they just want to keep them for themselves. And we were more than one person waiting and they instead decided not to sell to us. After many hours waiting CUSTOMER SERVICE IS VERY BAD THEYRE SO RUDE. There's a girl that says "since it's my boss that pays me I'm refusing to sell to you" because supposedly we were rude. Like how? When all we wanted is to buy a product Now you tell me, am I the rude one? Boss instead of fixing a problem he instead prefers to kick people out. read more

I went to BIG 5 on Charleston & lamb today 12/14/2025 (Sunda) @ 4:20 pm and when I approached the door it was LOCKED...Another customer who was there before me also tried to open the door...to NO avail..however: there were 3 cars in the parking lot..so I waited 5 minutes and tried to open the door...STILL LOCKED....other lady went to see if there was another door to enter..there wasn't....sooo.. approximately 6pm I called and a woman answered and said they have been open ALL DAY.....OF course she annoyed me even more and LIED....MANAGER PLEASE CHECK YOUR CAMERA ON 12/14/2025 APPROXIMATELY 4 :15 PM AND YOU WILL SEE YOUR DOOR IS LOCKED...SHAME ON YOU EMPLOYEE FOR NOT TELLING THE TRUTH!! I went to big 5 at 4275E. Charleston today 8/21/2024 and the lady named Selena was very rude. She had a bad attitude. Then she tried to over charge me. The other sales person was there and gave her the correct price. When I was leaving the person that I was with said bye and Selena gave her a dirty look. I tried to write a review on their website however it wouldn't let me so I'm writing it on here. I hope that the corporate management sees this so that they can correct her behavior. Been buying shoes here for many years. Today shopping for new running shoes. Found a very comfortable pair of Asics marked $54.99 on the box. Register rings up 59.99. I pointed out the discrepancy. The guys says, ok. I'll give you 5 off, You know prices are going up. So it's ok to take advantage of the public because of inflation? I'll be shopping elsewhere from now on. Great prices, lots of cool finds. I bought a rubber boat and need to try it out. I know if I have a problem they will easily return it for me. A good place to stop by quickly. Coming here you need to know what to buy so you can be in and out of here. Location is terrible. I've come here numerous times and walk in and find the staff on their phone doing nothing. Last visit a young lady was on her phone at the register texting away and briefly acknowledged me without taking her eyes off her phone. Uhh..... Nice customer service skills. There is a one guy that works here (can't remember his name) that always helps me and is very efficient. I was pretty indecisive about items located at the very top self which needed a ladder to get and he was nice enough to stay on that ladder as long as I needed him too. I hardly ever go to Big 5. This one is the closest to my home so I've come here the most but I have had better service at the other locations. read more

Walked in with my sister to buy some running shoes. Not served, in anyway, for 10 min in shoe department. Eventually an employee came over to assist; From that point on NO SERVICE. The guy that gave minimal service wasn't to be found in the store. Where did he go? The cashier was completing some kind of sale as we were leaving the store. As we left the store, I told the cashier they just lost a sale due to lack of service. The look on her face was no discript; She could care less about customer satisfaction. I guess, when they close the store due to poor performance she might realize the customer pays her bills. Go to Sketchers or WSS for shoes.... don't bother going to BIG 5, It's a BIG Mistake! read more

After going to 3 different stores and the gun show, I stopped at big 5 to get a tent and seen they had the rifle I wanted. Peter knew more about the gun then any of the stores I been to. He was nice, smart and professional. The tent broke right after getting it out the box and Peter returned it for me the day I picked up my rifle. Peter has the best customer service and I wish more stores had employees like Peter. Thank you. read more

This store is good for the most part. I go here weekly to catch their weekly specials on shoes. Whats sweet is I found a slingshot at this store! (yeah Im a troublemaker for the most part ha ha). They pretty much carry everything sports wise, the one thing they dont carry much on is martial arts stuff. read more

I purchased 3 pairs of mens sandals on 05/26/14. The one pair was $24.99, they are already coming apart at the soles. it is July 5, 2014. Tried to return them and was told there is no warranty on any shoes they sell. The manager wanted to give me a discount, but when I found another pair for $17, I could tell there was no discount. These sandals were barely worn, I sure was not going to purchase another pair at full price. Good luck shopping here, you better hope your shoes last. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KEY. Recently bought 2 pair of Response Gear Side Zip II boots for work. For $29.99 a pair you can't beat it honestly. I'm typically a Bates boot guy because they're a great value and quality boot but at this point didn't want to pay $80-120 for any brand of boots. Response Gear are not the best but still suitable for my purposes and budget. Started wearing only one pair and after about 2 weeks of use the zipper busted on one boot. I was going to attempt to fix the zipper somewhere or just take it as a loss but decided to take them back to the store and see if they had a warranty. Took them in and spoke with a manager and showed the busted zipper. Without question or receipt, immediately offered me an exchange for a brand new pair of the same boot. Very pleased with my experience!! 5 stars for CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Again, Response Gear boots may not be the best especially since my Bates are over a year old and still usable in every way. But Big 5 did right by me with this and I will be back for boots and more. read more
