Big 5 in Lompoc falsely advertises pricing. When attempting to purchase a product with a big yellow & black sales tag from a product retrieved by a BIG 5 employee by ladder, the product rang up at full price and BIG 5 refused to honor the sales price as marked. I filed a formal complaint with the corporate office for false advertising. For a store in a small town, dependent on local spending, it's unwise to engage in this behavior. Not honoring prices due to a store mistake, loses customers. I won't spend another dime at BIG 5 in Lompoc and wouldn't be surprised to see this store close and jobs lost since they rather false advertise. I'll buy sporting goods from Dicks or Amazon, anywhere but BIG 5 in Lompoc. read more

I really love Big 5. Let's be honest, there's not really a lot in the area if you're looking for sports equipment / wear. I mean, I guess I could go to Walmart, but... So, every time I've been there so far there's been some sort of sale. I started playing softball this year and was able to get cleats and pants at a great price. They've got a good selection of equipment as well. The staff in the shoe department has always been friendly and helpful. I don't think I've ever had any interaction with their employees otherwise, besides the checkout counter. Can't say that's a bad thing though. It's a small town sporting goods store. The selection is pretty good and their seasonal sports offerings are fantastic. When soccer season rolls around, AYSO enrolls about 1200 kids in the area. Not all of them shop at Big 5 for cleats, shin guards, and balls but enough do that they go through a lot of volume. That being said, they always have a good selection and the same thing applies to baseball and other sports seasons, too. I'll echo what others have said in that the customer service is fantastic. The people are great and I'm always greeted with a friendly smile when I walk in the store. It's a great place and my kids love browsing the place. So, I went in today to return a pellet gun I bought to hunt a rat. The gun was designed in a defective way. When you filled the clip and placed it in the gun, it has to be fired until empty or else when you take out the clip, the pellets fly across the room. I spoke to a young lady whom I had dealt with in the past. Her name is not important, Yvette. The last time I spoke to her, years ago, she was a sweet and demure young lady. Well, Murphy's law has struck this child. In that you raise in rank until you reach a level of incompetence and then you stay there. Meaning she was a great employee. But, as a manager, she was so rude, repeatedly, I was moved to mumbled loud enough for her to hear I was mumbling and when she had the audacity to hunt me down in the store and ask what I said, I said it at the top of my voice: What a bitch!!! I'm not the type to have encounters with employees. I know they are there to make a living. But, if this young lady was this rude to a senior citizen, what on Earth is she treating the employees below her like? Must be tough to keep staff...... read more

Sammy helped us renew mine and my husbands fishing license. Shortly while Sammy helped us, a man came in and caused a COMPLETE scene about not wanting to wear a mask (which is CLEARLY posted that it is required) and Sammy handled it with such professionalism and told that customer that its required by public health and it's to keep their staff along with others safe. I felt awful as he was the only staff member at the register (he payed overhead three times for help, no one came to help) and the line started to trickle behind us. The manager eventually came and just YELLED at this poor employee why he didn't call for help (he clarified he paged 3 times) and she just rolled her eyes and continued to bring down the line. Sammy was awesome and I applaud him for his professionalism, patience, and being able to multitask with the chaos that erupted. read more

Although this store carries various name brand sports equipment and accessories, the prices seem too high. There's no middle ground and I end up going online to get better prices. They really could use more pratical camping gear too. Please stop making me settle for Walmart. Become more competitive please. read more

Limited selection with a small town feel. The customer service is what makes this place. That, and the AWESOME price that I got on the youth golf clubs for my kid. They have pretty much everything that you expect in a sporting goods store. Located in the Albertson's plaza. read more

Love the service at this store . No, it is not always perfect but overall service is great . Some very helpful people working in various departments, especially the firearm and ammunition. Now and then I'm asked for my id several times on a single visit but that's the exception. They are also great at checking stock by phone to save a trip or to locate an item in another store and offer to have it held. I am on the road a lot and have the opportunity to shop at other Big 5 stores but this is my favorite by far. Their management deserves accolades as they have created and maintain a high level of customer service. It's also helpful that the people who work here camp, play sports, hunt, fish etc. It's refreshing to have a salesperson, especially a female, who really knows the merchandise and how it works in the real world. read more

Honestly big 5 is just a knockoff Dicks but thats fine i went in there and i was pretty impressed! Good gloves,bats, and other sports needs! But when i went in there there was a guy in a black trench coat just starting at me asking if i wanted to toss his salad!
