A client of mine loves golf but can't currently go to a course because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He's over 70 and golf is pretty much the only exercise he gets if any at all. His doctor recommended getting him some hollow balls that he could swing at in the backyard. I can't think of the name of these particular balls off head, but they're light and hollow. Much safer than him swinging at golf balls and risk breaking or hitting something with them. This location had them. I'll admit I was hesitant after seeing videos and photos of the Klan rally that was held in this very lot a few weeks ago. I don't know what's going on in Tujunga. I won't even go in Vons Tujunga after a racist encounter with the stores evening shift supervisor Maria. Rally aside I wanted my client to be happy and swinging a golf club makes him happy. I had no problems at this location, I saw no klans men marching, and he's gleefully hitting those hollow balls daily for exercise and relaxation. read more

Came in 5 employees talking to each other, waited over 10 min to get help with hunting supplies, no one came to help, no one offered help when i asked for help they said someone will be with me no one came waited 20 min left the store read more

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. When you walk in, they literally just look at you, no greeting, no can I help you, no let me know if you need anything and if you do need something, good luck tracking someone down. I wanted to see a shoe and walked around for like 5 minutes to look for an employee and it's funny that the store only had 2 customers including myself. I like that it's close by but the service sucks. I'd rather drive down to Sport Chalet. Why work in customer service if you lack the skill? Wont be back. read more

Spoke to 2 people and I'm sure 1 was management, about holding some ammo. I didn't even suggest it she did. She takes my name and number down and gives it to the "pro" there. I give them a courtesy call today because i can't make it and the "pro" gives me an attitude saying that it never happened, they never hold ammo, we never spoke before. I reminded him about our convo that day i left my info. I had asked him about the price of the 38. Super and he gives me this look and tells me its not the same as 38. Spl. I guess knowing that is what qualified him as a "pro". After he remembered me he says that they only hold ammo for 1 day during the background check. THE BACKGROUND CHECK TO BUY AMMO TAKES 5 MINUTES PEOPLE! And I thought he said they "never" hold ammo. This guy doesn't know how to handle customers properly. Very poor customer service from the moment my phone call was answered. LET ME KNOW I GOT THE RIGHT LINE TO BIG 5, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ASK IF THIS IS BIG 5! read more

In retail your staff can make or break your business. I went in there today for 2 items and asked the cashier where to find item 1 and she left her station and showed me around the store to the 3 locations they had the item and when I went into more detail she picked the one of the 3 locations to look at. In the shoe area I was looking for socks I'd bought there previously and had a photo of the item. I couldn't find them so the girl looked and couldn't find them either so went to her computer to check. It wasn't even listed on their computer (new item) so I asked if I could order more. No problem, just bring in the SKU #. As I was checking out she ran up with 2 packages of the socks I was looking for. She must have gone back and searched harder. I've dealt with the manager too and he was very helpful in finding a fishing hat. There's discount coupons on line but the cashier just applies them without even asking for them. Wifey and myself seriously impressed. read more

This is the best Big 5 and I will forever only come to this location. I had to exchange the hiking shoes that I got for a camping trip because they were causing the bottom of my feet to burn. For the sake of time, I went to the burbank location during my lunch break and the manager would not accept my return and told me to go back to the Tujunga store where I originally got it. Having to go out of my way and causing me to be late for my trip, I came to this location after work and got an exchange no questions asked and was out within 10 minutes. even more lame than the average big 5 store. typical spotty inventory, zombie-like staff. most big 5's at least have a halfway decent shoe department with rotating sales, this one is cramped and looks junky. each sport is underwhelmingly represented with a shallow inventory. five bicycles. displayed on top of 10' cases where no one can sit on them or try them out. why even bother? looking for a fanny pack as a gift, i wandered the store endlessly because you have to look everywhere since backpacks are in one section, more backpacks in another section, and a few more carrying things in yet another section, but no fanny packs. three employees in one aisle yukking it up scattered when i approached, manager guy loading stock near the front doors made no attempt to help, and another employee also wandering the store passed me 6 times with no hello, can i help you find something, nothing except the i-can't-wait-to-go-home glaze over his eyes. finally i asked some chick picking her fingernails at the register and shooting the shit with manager guy who just shrugged her shoulders and said i dunno like she was a customer. manager guy never even looked up. i know it's not just me because at the glendale big 5, which had the desired jansport fanny pack but only in pink, the helpful manager there told the countergirl to check stock at the new tujunga store and she had to call twice because they put her on endless hold then hung up on her. the walking dead liquor store previously at this location had more going for it. read more

I just came by to Big 5 to do some shopping for me, myself, and I! Woohoo!!! First thing I noticed was I was greeted at the door immediately with a smile and a big hello by the cashier (a very nice young lady)! I thought that was awesome. I looked around and found some items I wanted to purchase, but I had some questions. So the manager, Ryan, just so happened to walk by, I flagged him down and he was ever so helpful! He answered all my questions and even provided me with some recommendations. When I was all done shopping and went to pay, the same cashier greeted me again with a smile and she rang me up expediously! Needless to say...AWESOME EXPERIENCE AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! I went in there to buy a pair of shoes. The listed price of the shoes i wanted on the shelf was $38. When i got up to the front to pay, they were $59. I asked the guy to double-check the price. He did and told me that they were,$59. I just paid the difference. Oddly enough, the guy in line in front of me was there with his kid getting 3 pairs of nikes for $160-ish, and he had the same issue;one of the pairs of shoes was a higher price at the counter than it was listed for in the back. He asked about it too, and they told him something about not having time to change labels aroynd or something like that. The store was empty when i got there. Maybe that would have been the time to do that. Anyway, i'd been there before and never had this problem. A little disappointing. The guys there were nice though. read more
