Not the best area but the service is wonderful .... Greeting is everything. Great selections and stock. I don't go to big 5 often but this location is pretty good. Needed a day license for fishing (you get it at the cashier) got what I needed and was on my way.

As we were walking around on our routine morning walk, I noticed there was a big 5 sporting goods store on Van Nuys blvd. I went in looking for dumbbells and came out with a bunch of goodies!:D They had a decent variety of dumbbells to choose from, different colors and sizes, and bought a couple to complement my work out. I also noticed they had a percussion gun which I've been meaning to buy and am beyond excited to give it a try!!!:D I hold all my stress in my shoulders and have heard amazing things about the percussion gun and releasing tight muscles. As I started shopping around, I saw the clearance rack and got a juicy couture sports bra on clearance. :-) I was happy to see that the store is nicely laid out and there's staff on the floor ready to help you. When it was time to check out Tracy, the cashier, helped us out and was super friendly. Overall great experience and I'll be back for all my sporting and workout goods . :)

This Big 5 is always busy. We come to Big 5 like twice a month because all our kids are active in sports. They need more staff at this location to keep up with the customers because everyone is always busy. For all your sports needs and for great deals.

This is false discount prices at Big 5 in Van Nuys! Beware of Manager Josh!

Prices are not true don't even bother with their mark down prices. They show an additional saving of 20% and when you go to the cash register they don't give you the additional discount. Stay away from this store. Thumbs down to the manager named Josh he has the worse customer service attitude by far!!! He took my sign from my hands when I asked about the additional 20% discount and he said he will not honor the discount even if it's all over the store. I wish I could have given this store 0 stars.

This store is a complete wreck. Boxes all over the floors everywhere. Merchandise on the floor.

Once in a while they have good deals. The rest of the time, it's overpriced.

It gave me some helpful advice and found the size I wanted in black and that will work too, so I grabbed those. He took care of six people managed to get to me as he could see. I couldn't walk very well in no time flat. I had my new pair of Nike slip on slippers in the deal was incredible. I saved 20%. The store is good. Nice job.!!

They had a few color options, and they were $15.99 which I didn't think was too bad for a 33' one. They have so many things to look at here! Lots and lots of apparel and a great shoe section. Camping gear, sporting goods, beach gear, bikes, coolers, bags and much more! Prices can be a little steep, but they carry good brands. Had to wait a little in the check out line before they brought out another cashier out, bur when I was finally helped the cashier was very friendly and professional. Loved how easy it is to search their stock online!

Beware deceptive online pricing and upsell chaos…read more If you've never been here, here's what to expect: You'll enter, the staff is friendly and attentive, and they have a good selection. Regardless of what shoe you want to try on, you're going to be ushered to a computer where they measure your feet and give you an analysis and then fit you for very expensive custom insoles, upwards of $100. They'll then recommend 4-5 different shoes based on this, and the price range will vary. If you had a shoe in mind that you wanted to try, they'll bring that as well, but they'll push the others. They'll put the custom insoles in everything as an upsell technique, so you'll have to take it out if you really want to try on the shoes without the expensive add on. The insoles were meh. Didn't do much for me. I asked for the shoe I came to try on and was satisfied with those and ready to check out until they said the sale price listed on the website with free in store pickup wasn't applicable to in-store purchase ($30 difference) unless I signed up for a membership which was a $20 trial for 6 months and somehow tied to those damn expensive insoles and custom socks that I also didn't want. So if I wanted the sale price, I'd have to spend $20 somehow and be tied to those insoles I said I didn't want to begin with? I dunno. I felt like I was drowning and somehow my $150 shoes were going to end up costing me $300. Stop trying to make everything a membership subscription. How many pairs of running shoes do you think I'm going to buy every 6 months? Craziness. I went home and ordered my shoes on Amazon for $140. I really tried to go in-store and support a business in my neighborhood but no thanks on all of that.

I recently visited both Road Runner and Fleet Feet while searching for new walking shoes, and the…read moredifference was striking. Fleet Feet was, quite literally, feet ahead of the competition. At Road Runner, a foot scan gave me useful insight into my foot structure and what to consider in a shoe. The technology was impressive, but the experience was less so: the store seemed understaffed, trying each shoe often meant another 5-10 minute wait, and when another associate stepped in, I had to repeat what I had already gone through. More importantly, when I asked to try a shoe outside the scan's recommendation, I was discouraged because it contradicted what the technology suggested and was told not to try it on. Data can inform a decision, but footwear is ultimately experienced by a person, not an algorithm. A scan should guide curiosity and judgment, not replace them. I eventually tried the Brooks Ghost 18, but Road Runner did not have the colorway I wanted, so I bought them elsewhere. After my first walk, they began cutting into my ankles, and my search started again. Then I went to Fleet Feet. From the beginning, John made the experience entirely different. He greeted me warmly, did a new foot scan, explained what the results meant, and, most importantly, listened. He combined the data with his own expertise and my actual feedback rather than treating the scan as an answer. And finding the right shoe was not easy. Because of the anatomy of my feet, I ended up trying nearly 15 different pairs. Through every one, John's patience never wavered. When a shoe caused discomfort, he listened, reassessed, and brought out another option. He never rushed me, never made me feel like I was taking up too much of his time, and never acted as though he simply wanted me to settle on something so he could make a sale. What made the experience exceptional was that John seemed just as invested in finding the right shoe as I was. There is a profound difference between helping someone buy something and genuinely helping them solve a problem. John understands that difference. Eventually, I found the ASICS Novablast 6, which felt like the best fit for my needs. Unfortunately, Fleet Feet could not get my preferred colorway in time for an upcoming trip, so I ultimately left without buying a pair that day. And that may be the strongest testament to John's character and customer service. After investing all that time in helping me, John never pressured me to buy another color or settle for another shoe just to make a sale. He cared about getting me the right shoe, not simply getting me to buy a shoe. That kind of service is rare. I have met plenty of people who are knowledgeable, and plenty who are friendly. It is much rarer to find someone who combines expertise, patience, attentiveness, and genuine care for the customer's outcome the way John did. Fleet Feet, you have an exceptional employee in John. A foot scan can provide data and a system can generate recommendations, but neither can replace someone who listens carefully, applies expertise, adapts when the obvious answer is not working, and stays committed until the customer has a real solution. John turned what had become an incredibly frustrating search into one of the best retail experiences I've had in a long time. Thank you, John. Your patience, expertise, and genuine commitment to helping me find the right fit did not go unnoticed. Fleet Feet is lucky to have you.
