We went to Big Al's this afternoon for their sunny outdoor dining. The service was excellent. We were impressed with the wedge salad. So good. Someone passing by our sunny table noticed the huge wedge and commented how yummy it looked. We also enjoyed the onion rings and our beer and cocktail. Scammed by manager. We came from abroad and weren't warned that the arcade was going to close earlier than normal. They didn't refund us for our credits. We used 60 dollars for 10 people each. We tried to talk to them and they didn't even give us civil conversation. Their employees were mocking us, for talking back for the big amount of loss. I recommend you don't go there. Our drinks were overflowed and we didn't even get one of them. There was trash all over the floor. One of the lady employees told us to shut up when we were just trying to get our money back. Before we went, it said everywhere that the closing time was 9. They randomly closed at 8:45 and we had no warning. The manager was just telling us to call the owner, and didn't even give us the number. He was calling us aggressive, even when we weren't. The service here was so bad here I felt compelled to leave my very first review. As someone who has spent a career in customer service, I can give this place a failing grade without hesitation. Every single person I interacted with- from calling in to ask a question about a gift card a bit before arriving, to ordering food and drinks, and finally checking out- was completely unprofessional and outright rude. I have never experienced more shortness or actual eye rolls at any other establishment I've ever been to. If it was busy (around 730 on NYE) - That would be one thing - But it was even slow enough for workers to be on their cell phones, leaning, and being generally disengaged and annoyed. This review is for the restaurant only. My mom was having dental work nearby so we were in need of something convenient. I would say this would be the only reason I would come to this place. We dined on the Monday before New Year's. I am not sure if the staff were just slow or the scheduled for a non-holiday Monday. We had to ask twice for anything, water, silverware, our drinks. Staff was everywhere, but nothing seemed to be getting accomplished. Looking around there seemed to be equally frustrated dinners. We only ordered appetizers, as there were very few veggie friendly items, aside from the appetizers. The only think that we thought was the fairly good was the Kung Pao Cauliflower. We also had the cornbread, which said it was "Al's Signature Dish." This was barely edible, as it was burnt in places, and chewy. The honeybutter that came with it was terrible. It wasn't sure what kind of consistency it wanted to be, it was oily on top and kind of creamy underneath the oil. I guess if you get desperate mid-bowling it is nice to know there is a food nearby, but no reason to dine here otherwise read more

This place is like an adult theme park that also welcomes children. Beer and drinks are offered in their designated bar sections. The game is almost always playing here. The arcade is upstairs and the bowling alleys are downstairs. You can reserve sections if you're having a birthday celebration. This is a great spot for big families or a big group of friends. Great place tbh has everything for everyone but my favorite is the pretzel bites with the dips

First time, second time? Maybe bad luck. Third time? Nah. Each time gets worse. The bowling alleys rarely work. A technician had to come out all three times we've gone. Takes 20 minutes to get the lane working. When you ask for help the employees roll their eyes at you. If you have a bad experience and never get to play, they give you arcade credit... if you're lucky. Granted, I didn't know it was only arcade credit until I tried to bowl again months later. I've left like 2 reviews ever. And mostly because I'm excited about places I've visited. This place has so much overhead that they refuse refunds and treat the customers like cattle. I'm genuinely surprised I wasn't spit on. Exaggerating? Yup. But seriously, each one of the people that works there looks like they would rather tap dance on your grandmother's spine than help you in the slightest for 15 seconds. Do. Not. Bother. Came here the other weekend for the super bowl KC vs 49ers. I hadn't been here for a few years but it continued to be a lot of fun. We didn't bowl but we were In the restaurant side. Of course it was insanely packed. Our waiter was pretty good at keeping the food and drinks coming and checkIng on us. I ordered some food for the table - wings and a platter. Each cost around $21, the wings were pretty good. We ordered 20 and got to chose 3 different sauces/ rubs. We chose bourbon bbq sauce, lemon pepper and bbq rub. My favorite was the bbq rub. The platter had a mixture of small corn dogs, chicken strips, tater tots and union rings. Overall the platter was ehhhh just okay. I like fried and crunchy stuff but mmm I felt half of the food was a little in the burnt side. The screens - are perfect size and literally in almost every direction you'll turn your head. One person had to show up at 11am to make sure we had a table and most of us didn't get there till 2-3pm. It's insane how early you have to come to save a table but it was the super bowl, so what can you say?! read more

Big Al's is a restaurant, a bowling center, and an arcade. It offers private rooms and private bowling lanes for parties, and it is in this facility that my familiarity with Big Al's lies. The bowling lanes are always ultra-clean, they offer a wide variety of balls of different weights, sizes, and finger hole orientations, and the upkeep is perfect. There are large television screens above all lanes, and they show music videos of all varieties. There are also nice lighting effects. The food is on the better side of average for buffet fare (again, I cannot comment on individual menu items). The arcade has a much larger percentage of skill, ticket-redemption games than video games. They also have a large number of games that are geared toward younger children. The games are expensive, and the payouts are lower than other establishments. If you want a fun time for a reasonable price, you really can't beat Big Al's. read more

The most Trash lanes I have ever bowled in my 12 years of bowling. They open at 12pm and I got there at 1pm and they started cosmic bowling right in the middle of me trying to practice and work out a new ball on top of the lanes being awful this is not a place for serious bowlers I feel like I wasted $24 here the only thing that I can say that was good was the food and the beer they have that part dialed in for sure if you want a place to go to that is cool for inexperienced bowler and you just want to F around with your friends and family this is a great place for you but if you are like me and care more about improving your game then this is definitely not the place for you read more

I go to a higher end place to get good service and food. Tonight i sat at table 605. Great view of the screens. Keep in mind i spent 20 years in restaraunt managent. The service was great tight up to the time we had to pay for the bill before we get our food. I ordered a crazy al cooked to medium. What i got was medium rare. Medium is no pink and what i got was a dark pink all the way through. My lady ordered the philly. What she got was some kind of beef that tasted like it sat in water for days then cooked. Or at least attemped to cook. The cheese was a nacho cheese out of a can with the oils from that being warmed up and soaking into the bread, meat, and vegies. It was disgusting. Top that off we had to get our own condiments and togo things. And they conned us out of a tip begore all of this. They had pleanty of people for clean up. Too many as they stood around chatting and yet claimed they did have enough servers. We are done with big als and we will spread the word. read more

So if I have to spend my afternoon with my co-workers, I would much rather be doing it at Big Al's. Well, let me just clarify one thing: you do have to pay me to hang out at Big Al's with my co-workers, but it sure as hell is better than my cubicle at the insurance company. The first thing I noticed is that it didn't smell like any bowling alley I had ever been to before. Maybe that is because I am used to the formerly smoky, somewhat divey bowling alleys over on the east side of Portland. I am not complaining about the new bowling alley smell. I also noticed that the place is huge. It is way more than just a bowling alley. It is also a 7000 sq. foot arcade - I am not a math major but I think that the arcade alone is 15 x bigger than my tiny flat. They also have private rooms for parties for children, and for corporate parties like ours. Our party of 12 fit comfortably in our private room, the buffet was already set up for us. The burger buns were toasted and because of that they were too hard around the edges. My veggie burger was delivered hot, right to the table. The buffet table also had all the condiments and fixins'. Also available was cole slaw, baked beans and mac'n cheese all of these sides would be pleasing to a first grader's palette but to a discerning adult, it tasted like canned goods and Kraft mac n'cheese. Big Al's is good entertainment for a couple of hours. The bowling was fun, the server was good about coming around and making sure we had adult drinks if we needed them and our supervisor/chaperone had a full glass of wine the entire time. Good times. As fancy-pants, and good smelling as Big Al's is, I still prefer my slightly divey, slightly smoky smelling bowling alleys on the east side. read more

1. Asked for a pitcher of bud light upstairs; which they said they didn't have. Then went downstairs & they listed it as an option. 2. Yakisoba - had tendons in the meat, making it difficult to eat & was VERY overcooked, the egg, which the point of is to break the yolk & have it run over the food for creaminess was cooked over-hard. 3. Had to wait over 2 hours for a table. 4. BECAUSE they don't allow reservations. 5. Didn't get the Cajun tots that came with the chicken strips. 6. Didn't receive a drink we ordered THEN they tried to charge us for it. 7. They gave the BIRTHDAY BOY the wrong Chicken wings he ordered. 8. All chicken was the DRYEST chicken I have ever had the misfortune to eat, let alone have to pay for. I mean, you know the food is awful when you don't even want to take your leftovers home. 9. I asked for a straw 3 times & never got one. 10. Drinks are good; but overpriced. 11. The waiter literally had a member of our group split the bill for them; THEN after she split it up, he came around & tried to redo it because she "didn't do a good job." 12. DEREK, our server, was awful. I hope this is a second job that he does on the weekend for extra money cuz he's definitely not cut out for this field. He never came back to check if we needed anything, how the food was, for any more drink orders NOTHING. Then getting us our checks added easily another hour to our stay. Honestly the food here has completely tanked. Stale and freezer burned tots that aren't edible. Drumsticks weren't fresh, they were old and clearly frozen, skin tough as a thick leather. I sent it all back and ate elsewhere. Service was still terrible, as it's been for at least 3 years. It's unfortunate that a facility with so much potential will get run down, all due to poor management. I was had the pleasure of taking my son to a birthday party @ Big Al's this past Sunday. He loves to bowl and was looking forward to this for a while. I wasn't expecting to bowl. I just thought I would help out with the kids. But when I checked in I was told that the adults had their own lane. It was then that I realized that I had my bowling shoes in my car. When my husband told me we had been invited ( really mandated) to attend his office's semi annual get together at a bowling alley in Beaverton on a Satursday night, I have to say I wasn't tremendously excited. I'm not a bowler.Bowling reminds me of middle school gym class outings. Shudders. That said, when we arrived and heard there was 1) open bar ( and I mean WIDE open bar) for his office event and 2) that I didn't HAVE to bowl and 3) there would be casino games, well, I felt somewhat mollified. The strawberry Margarita as big as my head ( and it was free) helped. It was delicious. I think if we'd had to pay for it it would have been about $5. This was a nice place to hold an office event. We had several bowling lanes and a big room for casino games and eating all to ourselves for about 50ish people. They served chicken, salmon, rice pilaf,smashed potatoes, asparagus, and cheesecake or chocolate torte for dessert. Oh, and lots of salad, either caeser or a mixed vegetable extravaganza. The chicken was a little dry. Eveyrthing else was yummy. The chocolate torte thing was sick. Cookie crust, mousse middle, and thick ganache like chocolate fudge on top. wow There are huge tv's everywhere playing LOUD music videos... some of the music was a bit much but they keep it clean for children per the staff. There was alot of old eighties stuff,and old black and white Elvis footage... kinda fun. Not a bad place to go. Tried to support Big Al's during the pandemic but walked away disappointed again. They cannot cook a burger properly if their life depended on it. Their cook staff seem to think medium and well done are synonymous. This is not a one time anomaly, they simply do not know how to cook a basic burger (their core competency). It's a sports bar so food expectations are already low but they should at least aim for edible... I recently contacted them directly regarding two crispy burnt burgers that were part of a take out order. I explained that I would rather not blast a business on yelp without giving them an opportunity to respond privately first. I heard exactly nothing in response from them. Clearly they do not care that their food is inedible (yes, we threw out the food) nor that their patrons are paying for overpriced garbage. RIP Big Al's. We hoped we could help you stay afloat. Given that you don't care about your customers, I'm now looking forward to the next tenant who has some basic business acumen and regard for the people who are keeping them in business. read more

Went to Big Al's on 12/30/2023 bowled with the family and had a blast, ordered food and unfortunately they had forgotten one of our basket of wings, we had mentioned it to one of the service guys and noticed a mistake was made. Thanks to David he took great care of us and complimented us with the wings and a few cards to play at the arcade for the family. I've been going to Big Al's many times which is why I took me so long to write a review on the establishment. Awesome place if you want to have a night out with the kids or if you wanna have a drink while you go bowling, watch a sporting event, or play some video games. The sports book is huge! They also have a bar upstairs just for adults with some pool, darts and older video games with a full view of the sport books. The reason why this place didn't get a 5 star rating is because the service is not very good and the prices are very expensive. Rather than that, great place! Had a a great time here. It's perfect for parents who want to relax, have some drinks and eat good food while their kids can be occupied with arcade games and/or bowling. The place is huge. There is also a big on the second floor that is 21 and over, which overlooks the main restaurant if you want to watch games or play pool, shuffleboard, do the golf simulator, etc. Staff was awesome and friendly. I recommend it for families with kids ranging in ages 6-teens and couples who do not have kids that are looking for a fun date night. read more

They didn't see me drink them too and before we were done with them the manager came over and very rudely said we were cut off. I asked why and he told us a law about one person not being able to have two drinks. I told him it was my birthday and we were sharing them. He looked me dead in my eyes and said I'm sorry no. I was shocked. Did I need to ask him to check the security tape. I asked am I aloud to order another drink. He said no you lost the privilege. It took everything in me to not be rude back. So all I said was ok well thank you"sarcastically". I've never been treated so rudely by a manager. We weren't tipsy or being extra doing anything to make us stand out. There was one waiter name Gio which we had that obviously should find a new profession. He maybe had 7-10 customers in the bar. I requested a shot of tequila, watched the bar tender set it on the bar then started a timer to see how long it would take to have it make it to my table that was maybe 30 feet away. 7 and a half minutes. I got to watch him talk with some female server in the entrance to the kitchen instead. My food was fair, burned enough I wouldn't eat it. My husbands was good. This review is specific to the sports bar area. I have not really visited the arcade or the bowling alleys. I have been to Big Al's quite a few times to watch the Seahawks and it is indeed a GREAT place to watch sports with humongous displays and multiple large screens - gives a Las Vegas feel. The sports bar area looks nice, modern and big, kinda like a Buffalo Wild Wings but bigger and better. The main display is a gigantic 55-foot projector that can split into three pretty huge displays showing three different games. These three can further split into four smaller displays which are still pretty big. What all this means is that you get a kickass view of the game irrespective of where you are seated within the sports bar area (which is pretty big itself). So, based on the giant screens and the overall vibe, this is definitely the swankiest sports bar I have been to in the greater Portland area. The experience is literally BIG. But the food is the reason which keeps them off a 5-star rating for me. I have tried their mac n cheese, pizza, gyro, burrito and they were all below average to really bad. The pizza was over baked, the mac n cheese had dry chicken, the gyro was really dry and the meat in the burrito was almost inedible and none of them tasted good. As the other reviews have noted, they really need an upgrade on their kitchen and unless they start putting out way better food, I do not see myself going back there often. Other than the food, the drinks are not bad and they have a nice selection of cocktails. The bartenders and waiters are friendly. Like the others mentioned, I have faced slow service and on one occasion I was not attended to even after it had been 20 min since we were seated, but then I have typically been there during the major NFL games so I get it if the service staff gets overwhelmed at times. In any case, I was going to be there for 3-4 hrs anyway so a bit of a delay is not a dealbreaker for me. Overall, this is a great place with a swanky sports bar and I definitely see myself coming back here more often if they improve the quality of food at the restaurant. read more
