Big Al's is pretty great... Most of the time. Just be careful when in the upstairs 21 and over bar. Cash out every time or there is a good chance you will end up with someone else's drinks on you tab, it's happened to us more then twice. Also, they always seem to be under staffed up there. Aside from these two things, Big Al's is great for large parties, above average bar food and a family friendly or adult environment. read more

I have taken my family to eat at the restaurant go bowling and play in the arcade several times. The food is pretty good and the service is always fine. Bowling is boring, but they do provide a lot of lanes to choose from. The Arcade is awesome and very well maintained, even on busy days it is rare to see more than a couple machines down. read more

To each their own: This is a Sports Bar so I didn't go expecting a great wine list and extremely attentive service. The wall of sports was impressive and the images very high quality. But - the food was shockingly bad. The cheese burger had barely any cheese and was so dry that that I couldn't finish it. The meal was not cheap. I expect a sports bar to be loud but it seems like other areas such as the bowling ally and games area where designed to be an assault on the senses: unnecessarily noisy with as many differently colored flashing lights as feasibly possible. A few hours in here with the confusion wrought by sensory overload and I could seriously imagine the customers considering taking their own lives. This is at odds with the building's exterior which actually looks pretty good. If you want a better burger experience then my advice is to go to somewhere else. read more

Not responsive. Wanted to watch the USA World Cup game Thurs AM June 26. Tried to call them, check website AND e-mail. All a stonewall. Today, June 25 website has old calendar information but i seems to indicate on an obscure part of their website a 9AM opening (game start time) Too late to get seated for the game start.. I don't trust it. Called their phone last evening to inquire. No Answer, just a phone tree, then leave a message - I did leave a message last night but no call back. Today sent an e-mail through the website link posted - got a bounce back as message undeliverable. Just trying my patience. Will go somewhere else. We went on a Wednesday night for bowling, not knowing it was $1 night. We got there at 5:20 and the special was starting at 6:00. They let us know that we could save a lot of money (over $7/person) by waiting. So, we played some games upstairs and got in line around 5:40. (It's first come, first serve). We were able to secure a lane and our food came right away. We had to leave at 7, so we had just enough time for 1 game, but it timed out perfectly. Our server was great and the food was delicious! I have never had such a terrible experience in my life as I did here last night. I had plans to meet a good amount of friends there for a date night. There was enough people that we needed two lanes for bowling. So I went up to the front desk and asked if they had two lanes available. There wasn't and I wasn't upset so I went upstairs with my friends to go try out the games for a while and I asked the blonde woman at the front desk to tell me when there would be some lanes available. The whole conversation she was so rude to me. I felt uncomfortable and uninvited. The games upstairs were pretty cool though. The guy that was working in the store where you turn in your tickets for prizes was hilarious and had a great attitude. We enjoyed talking to him. He was super nice and help us to get the right amount of prices for our tickets. Beware though because the whole place is filled with drunk people. Thought this would be a family-friendly place but there were drunk people left and right yelling and screaming at me. One lady had left her drink on a game and after I accidentally bumped into it knocking it over she went totally crazy at me and started yelling at me. Someone came relatively quickly after I asked for help to come clean it up. If you are looking for a fun time this is not the place to go. Then after more of my friends arrived we went down to the front desk to go get some lanes for bowling and we had to again wait longer for more lanes to be open. I had asked very simply and I was being very kind to the front lady but she kept giving me attitude and was being extremely rude to me and all of my friends. So then when we finally got to go bowling there was only 4 seats available even though you can have up to eight people in a lane. The table was so small and cramped and half the people in my lane had to stand the entire time. There was already such limited space I felt as though all the drunk people were breathing down my neck. The bowling lanes were in great condition though and had some cool lights turn on after about 30 mins that we were there. Now our game stopped after an hour and they wouldn't let us finish so I was fairly upset. I had specifically told the front lady that we all were going to play two games of bowling but instead she gave us unlimited bowling for one hour. Terrible customer service. I had even said what we wanted multiple times- I'm a very clear and concise person- so I'm very upset. I didn't mind though I just brushed it off my shoulder and left. I will not be returning. I would never bring any children to this establishment. As we were leaving, all these drunk people keep cat calling and yelling at my friends. I was scared to drive home with all these drunk people in the road. This place does NOT attract the right kind of people. Do not go here. Maybe it was just the day I was there but I didn't think it would be so crunk on a Thursday night. I am a very gentle person but this makes me furious. read more

Can I give zero stars? Tonight, my friends and I visited Big Al's during happy hour. First complaint, no late night happy hour food items. Seriously? Aparently, they got rid of that "a while ago", even though 10 other places also have 9-close happy hour in the area. Second, staff. I have never felt so disrespected by an employee of an establishment as I was tonight. Understood, the location closes at 11pm, however my friends and I (at 11:05pm)were finishing our drinks. We imediately got a yell from the bar that "You know we're closed right?" We said, "sorry, just finishing our drinks". The next gesture from their employee was a circular finger to the sky telling us to "hurry it up". I then advised the employee we would be finishing the drinks we paid for, to which we received more dismay. That employee provided his name when asked, because I was appalled at how quickly we went from customer to nuisance. To be honest, the lack of respect, the general nature of big als and the attitudes of their employees, poor happy hour, I would certainly, certainly spend your money elsewhere. Far cry from when it first opened. As businessman myself, idcrtainly look o management to set proper examples and expectaions., because right now, they're not working. read more

Our family loves this spot! Sure it can be busy some days when we want just a little more quietness. But it's still so much fun! We try to go in ourselves without the kids. And when we do Patrick is upstairs waiting with a smile and adult drinks! He's a funny guy! Our last visit (monday) we unfortunately heard what we are assuming is an employee... yelling about how so and so doesn't know how to schedule and she was rambling on, yelling profanities and such, right outside the front door. You couldn't miss her. Big bushy blonde hair. We have never had her wait on us. But we would definitely ask for a different person if so. When we come in the employees seem to be enjoying themselves. And we like that. We get they're human too. But someone yelling outside your building can't be good for business. We were leaving at the time. I love Big Al's, the arcade games and bowling make a perfect date night. BUT, do NOT order the food. We've only ordered the Nachos in the past -- and trust me you can make better nachos in the microwave at home. So on Saturday, we decided to order the "Big Al's Specialty" wings. We decided to "sauce it up" with the Nashville Hot sauce. When we got the wings there was no sauce on it, they used a dry rub of salt and pepper. So, we asked our server if this was the correct order because it didn't appear to have any sauce. She brought it back to the kitchen, and then back to us within 5 minutes but she informed us the kitchen said it was the Nashville Hot! I'm sorry but no. Long story short, the kitchen was too busy for them to re-fire our order so they lied and said it was correct. AND we both got food poisoning the very next day...nice. I will continue to be a Big Al's customer, but will never order food there again. read more

False advertising! We went in for happy hour and to try one of their 'craft beers' for $3.50 as it states on their menu. I was surprised to get the bill at $5.75 a pint! I asked why I wasn't being charged the happy hour price, the bartender apologized and explained that the only craft beer that they offer is one tap that they only offer at the down stairs bar. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you put 'craft beers' on your menu without exclusion then that if false advertising and I'm guessing more than a few have been surprised by their tabs at the end of the night. I asked the manager Justin Sanchez about the 'craft beers' and he was blatantly rude about it and unapologetic. "There is nothing WE can do about it. It's not our fault." Also, a friend ordered a happy hour food item from Tony (one of the bartenders) only to have it sit at the end of the bar and get cold because he "didn't recognize her." The only redeeming quality about the whole evening was Brett the bartender. He was the one that figured out my friend's food had been forgotten and gotten cold and demanded that it be remade in addition to being sincerely apologetic about how awful their misleading menu is. Justin and Tony could learn a lesson or two from Brett about customer service. read more

Honestly, corporate anything usually sucks, and Big Al's is no exception. My partner and I live close by and love to play in slider alley, but have found that the level of service really depends on the staff scheduled. The whole premise of slider alley is to have the VIP experience, which essentially consists of a server taking your order at the lane versus having to go to the bar to order a drink. Well, it seems that we only get service when Christian is working. Even when he is not scheduled in slider alley he seems to be the only person that opens his eyes and realizes that we are serving ourselves by walking up to the bar and ordering drinks. Supposedly, there's always a server "assigned" to slider alley but we spent 3 hours and literally were not greeted by one server other than Christian, and that was just in passing. He ended up taking over and serving us and it wasn't even his section. He apologized profusely and did everything in his power to make it right. And, honestly, if it weren't for Christian and Armant, at the front desk, we wouldn't be back, but they've both made sure to make things right with us on multiple occasions. To give you some perspective, we NEVER complain unless it's so bad there's no other choice. I've been a bartender/server for over a decade and you guys have some all-stars and some major weak links. The blonde with dreads is polite but everytime she's the server in slider alley it's absolutely terrible. I'm talking about having to harass her for water, a drink (don't even bother expecting to order food because it's not happening unless you order it from the bar yourself, thus wasting bowling time you paid for--not cool), and your check. I'm sorry but, I always, ALWAYS, tip 20% across the board unless you are literally showing zero effort or awareness of your table's needs. My partner even gives me a hard time about my excessive tipping. I've worked in the service industry and I know how horrible it is when, despite your best efforts, for whatever reason, things aren't working out with a table. That is not what's happening here! There seems to be less than zero effort given. It seemed that she was actively avoiding eye contact to avoid serving us, which I've never witnessed in a service atmosphere before. It makes me think that she clearly doesn't need the money because she can't be bothered with any of her tables. It literally blows my mind! If it weren't so blatantly obvious that she's trying to avoid serving us, I'd have no other choice but to assume she's dealing with new kitchen staff, or whatever, but it's undeniably apparent that that is not the case. Not to mention no apology or acknowledgement about the lack of service. For the entire 3 hours we were there I saw her multiple times just hanging out, joking around with other employees, not serving a single person in slider alley except for someone who was apparently a co-worker. The off-duty colleague was actually more helpful-- helping me find a certain ball without my even asking-- than the assigned server was. We didn't even realize he worked there until he mentioned it in passing. At the end of the day, not everyone is cut out to be a server and there are a few people employed at your establishment that are driving customers away. The ONLY reason we've continued to come back is because either Christian or Armant have made it right every single time. I appreciate that a corporate organization would give their shift leads (I'm assuming that's what Christian is, and if not, why the heck not??) the power to make things right at their discretion, as that rarely happens in a franchise, and it makes a huge difference in customer experience. Literally, the first experience we had at this particular Big Al's was terrible and if it weren't for Christian and Armant we would have never come back. We think they are both the un-sung heroes of your organization, and will be happy to continue supporting Big Al's with our weekly bowling habit if you keep them both around. Without them, you will undoubtedly have TONS of unhappy customers. And to the woman with the blonde dreads, please find something that suits your personality better! I can tell you've got a lot to offer, it just doesn't seem like the hospitality industry really works for you. And, I mean all of this in the most supportive way possible. Came here on a Sunday night during late night happy hour. When we first approached the desk to purchase late night bowling, we told the cashier how many people were coming and he sighed, dropped the card, and swore. While bowling, the music was not pg rated as it showed women in lingerie. Service was absolutely horrible, it took 20 minutes to get a waiter, 30 minutes to bring out food. When we ordered nachos, we ordered without cheese and sour cream due to lactose intolerance. The servers brought it out with cheese and sour cream, when we told them we couldn't eat that the guy had a look of "oh well." When we were paying the bill, the server told us that food was not half off because it wasn't on the menu. When in fact we did not receive the current menu that said that late night happy hour doesn't exist. Needless to say, horrible service and horrible management. read more

Three of the tables had already been served all their food when we arrived. It was terrible! There were at least 10 employees in the food area and most of them were hanging out and talking. One of the staff members was on his phone most of the time we were there. He looked like a supervisor or manager because of his blue shirt while everyone else had black shirts. They did try calling back but not until late in the day when I'm already working. Not only did my email state the specific date for my reservation but so did all of my voicemails. We live in the area and have come here since it opened. The service has gone downhill and the staff (not all, but most) are flat out rude and have no idea what customer service is. It takes forever to get a server and when you do, it takes an eternity just to get a drink. The dining room always seems to be understaffed and the staff that are 'working' generally stand around and talk to each other. I will never go here again. A group of 8 friends and I showed up around 8:30pm and were told it would be a 2.5hr wait. Not ideal, but the place is huge with an arcade so we figured we'd get some food and beer then play a few games, no big deal. Except that the teenage staff were more concerned with handing out freebie food and ice cream to their classmates and socializing than they were with ringing up paying customers. All we attempted to play was two games that kept us there til closing time with two people left to bowl their final round of the last game. Of course one of our crew decided it would be fun to bowl down the now empty lane next to us. Employee Kent -"with a T"- responded with, "great now I gotta fucking dig that out." To which a friend good naturedly responded, "oh cmon it can't be that bad I'm sure he's not the first to do something like that." I told Kent with a T that he ought to watch his mouth, that as an employee he has a level of professionalism he is required to maintain that doesn't involve foul language. Not only did he take an aggressive step towards me but then said, "excuse me? Get the fuck out!". Needless to say I was appalled at the behavior he felt was appropriate and spoke to the closing manager. The response I got was "oh wow, yeah that's not ok. You guys have a great night." I mean, seriously???? So now I'm still waiting for a call back from the general manager and will NEVER bowl here again due to the staff and lack of managerial skills evidenced by the handing out of free food to friends and the completely unacceptable language and behavior of Kent that the management clearly could care less about. read more

My 7 year old daughter lost her game card with all her tickets and money on it and was crying and devastated, the sympathetic staff provided her with a new card with her lost tickets in it and turned a bad situation into a great experience. The staff here went above and beyond what they needed to do, in this day and age that is a rarity and big al's is one of the good guys. I have been to Big Al's several times as a family and with work for different events. I have noticed in the last year that the service has slowly gone downhill some of the employees we have encountered have been more interested in chatting among themselves rather than assisting customers. The final straw for me, and the reason we won't be going back was our visit this past weekend. We went on Sunday morning. We got there about 10:30-11 a.m. and planned to bowl two games. Our service was super slow. It took about 30 minutes to get our food and my meal was completely wrong. The waitress apologized and said she would take it off of our bill. That sounded ok so we moved on and I ate what she brought. This morning when balancing the checkbook it turns out that they charged us an extra $6 for a tip..... We called this afternoon to find out what the issue was and were told that my husband's 0 looked like a 6 but if we wanted to come in they could issue a refund. We live in Forest Grove, it would cost us that much in gas it would just be nice for an apology. Nope, no apology, they hung up on us. Will not be going back to Big Al's.... there are plenty of other places that we can go. read more

Big Al's is a great place to go bowling. I the always had fun. It is family and kid friendly. There are normally lots of people and it is noisy but not too noisy. It is really big. We've had many awesome family dinners and gaming nights at Big Al's on several occasions before, so this review may be a one time reaction to what proved to be an *incredibly* busy Friday night in January when it was pouring rain out. What to do with the kids during weather like this after a long week when you're just not in the mood to cook? Take them to Big Al's, of course. I want to again stress I had never seen the establishment quite this busy - which may explain a lot of what we experienced here tonight. That and some network malfunctions. First, we had to circle the parking lot four times to find an open space. Your parking spaces are entirely too narrow for anything much bigger than a 1981 Honda Civic - this likely isn't the fault of Big Al's as much as it is for the property owner (fixing it would be nice either way). After eating the fabulous food prepared and served timely and exactly as ordered in a friendly manner (downstairs Family friendly Restaurant with sky painting), we attempted to buy Game Cards with pre-loaded credits downstairs at the main register, as we had in the past many times. This is the first useless wait in line...admittedly, it was a very brief wait with only one customer in front of us. Not a big deal...yet. Once it was our turn downstairs at the register, the clerk advised Big Al's no longer sells gaming cards downstairs - she directed us upstairs to buy at a kiosk. Ok, I'm all for convenience. We head upstairs, debit card in hand, prepared to buy several gaming cards....except.....there was ONE kiosk working out of THREE. One. And there was a line of equally anxious gamers about 5 deep in front of us. We patiently wait (or not so patiently - we have a child who sat patiently through dinner and is running out of patience). Our turn arrives, we attempt to purchase the cards using our debit card only to have the machine tell us that there is a problem processing credit/debit cards and the machine will only take CASH for gaming cards. We have no cash. We go to the Rewards "store", wait in line (3rd time) behind a gaggle of happy kids turning in their tickets/credits for toys. Our turn comes again and I ask the clerk if he can give us gaming cards and hand him my trusty debit card. This friendly clerk explains to me that the entire establishment can't process credit cards currently. What??? You processed our debit card just fine to pay for dinner but now after waiting in line three times, we still have no joy and we have a sad little boy who just wanted to play already. The friendly clerk did advise that the kiosks would still accept Cash....Except...we, like so many other average Americans didn't bring wads of cash - that's what debit cards are for. Like, everything. Ok, I say probably sighing a bit heavier than was necessary (this kid was just trying to do his job on a super busy night)...Can you direct me to the ATM then? I am told that there is NO ATM in the establishment to his knowledge? Wait...what???? Seriously...there must be an ATM there. This can't be correct, can it?? We actually prepared to leave Big Al's to get cash and come back (!!), but luckily, one of our family members had *some* cash we managed to use. I got over the whole no gaming cards for you fiasco relatively quickly once we were all gaming & happy, earning mucho tickets for prizes. Fast forward about 45 minutes and we're ready to feed that ticket eater like it's starving and we're a buffet of tickets..there's a large line at the two ticket eater "banks". Fine, I think, there are like 4 eaters at each "bank" and there's two "banks" next to each other. Once again, we run into immediate delays. The first "bank" had only ONE out of FOUR ticket eaters working correctly/accepting any tickets. The second "bank" had TWO out of FOUR ticket eaters working. I should also note that I used the Women's restroom twice while there (once in the Restaurant and once on the main floor behind the Bar). The restaurant restroom was fine, good shape. The restroom behind the Bar was a MESS. Toilet paper strewn everywhere, paper towels wet and mushed on the floor, one stall was in terrible shape (What kind of patron makes that kind of mess and LEAVES it???), one soap dispenser was empty. Again, I must stress that Big Al's was SUPER busy and PACKED. This was Friday, January 29, 2016 - very busy. I fully appreciate that it's *very* difficult to keep up with "full" ticket eaters and non functioning card kiosks and crowded restrooms when it's probably a never ending story of *something* that needs attention..heck, even I know that credit card systems can and do "go down". But to have all of these events happen in one visit was a bit much. Perhaps they were short staffed on Friday? May explain a lot. We came home with some toys and some awesome left overs and I'm sure we will return. I would hope that our next visit would be much more "functional" all around. read more

We love big als but recommend not going during the holidays. Many of the games were out of order. My daughter is 5 and they put us on a lane that didn't have bumpers but were quick to move us after we requested it. The food was not their best and they seemed to be on skeleton staff. But they did their best considering it was a holiday weekend. We'll still comeback again. read more
