Highly recommend this gem of a deli! I honestly didn't like my sandwich, the alfalfa sprouts gave it an weird texture, and there was a lot of melted cheese, but it was exactly as I ordered and not their fault. Big Al's has been in Tulsa for 50 years, that should tell you something regarding the quality of their food. This is a great little shop for lunch. They have sandwiches, paninis, soups, and wraps all made to order. You also can get fresh fruit smoothies to accompany your meal. We got a Mediterranean chicken and Avocado Turkey wrap at our last visit with spinach pitas. Both wraps were delicious, came with provolone cheese and have Alfa Alfa sprouts. They have a selection of sauce that you can add to your wraps as well. We also shared a pineapple strawberry fresh smoothie which was delicious. The staff was very friendly and fast! Two wraps for us; the Baja Chicken and the Mediterranean Chicken, both packed with fresh ingredients and dressing. A heathy delicious option. A panini is dang near automatic when it comes t sandwich. I may look at other options, I know what I'll end up rolling with. This time around, the notion doesn't change as I go with the Tuscan Turkey panini. Sun dried tomato pesto, smoked turkey, romaine lettuce, cheese... I took off the tomato, added bacon. Very good sandwich. Couldn't tell what type of cheese they use, it was shredded & oozing out of the edges. Turkey is STACKED! I had the Apple Strawberry smoothie to go along with the sandwich. With the drink already having banana (& honey) in the mix, I think of it as an extra bonus. The apple is subtle while the strawberry takes over. We've never been disappointed with our meals here. Today we had "The Super" (on sliced wheat) and the Tuscan Turkey Wrap. The Super (as the name proclaims) was loaded with turkey, ham, roast beef and cheese. It was piled high. The highlight of my wrap was the tomato pesto sauce. The grilled wrap came with a fair amount of lettuce and sprouts which helped balance out the turkey and the cheese. (In fact, I would probably have been OK with a bit less cheese.) One of my favorite stops for vegan foods. The best thing is they don't use any animal products in their beans! So you can get a Burrito Supreme minus the cheese and sour cream and add hummus for a vegan lunch! And it's the best tasting burrito around. I'm all about hip and trendy new healthy dining options in Tulsa, but Big Al's has clearly stood the test of time. Plus it has the feel of a local Tulsa joint, nothing corporate about this place. The smoothie selection is quite vast and there are other drink options like traditional soda fountain or 4 different types of freshly brewed iced tea. One thing I really liked about the smoothie selection/menu is that it's very transparent and easy to tell exactly what you are going to be getting in your smoothie without being overwhelming. The choice of lunch items is very appealing including hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, and pitas in addition to soups and such. There is a daily special every day as well as soup of the day. The menu is easy to read and offers details and customization options. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan choices too. I get the turkey and avocado pita and it is simple and delicious. I've tried several of the smoothies and would recommend them all, it just depends on what you like in your smoothie or what you're in the mood for. read more

You say I've passed you too many times to count when I was on my way to McDonald's? My bad. I'm glad I stopped in today. I got a gourmet meal at the speed of a fast food place. Big Al's has a cafeteria feel to it when you enter. Formica-topped tables, red lunch trays, paper plates and styrofoam cups. The speed and the surroundings are where the similarities to chain restaurants end, though. The service was excellent. I was greeted by a smiling face and pleasant small talk as I took time checking out the menu. And when I stopped back at the counter before leaving to grab a to-go menu and told the woman behind it how good my first time was, she seemed genuinely grateful for my business. I ordered a lemon burst smoothie and the Tuscan turkey grilled wrap. The smoothie was just the right amount of sour and sweet. The wrap consisted of sun-dried tomato pesto, smoked turkey, mozzarella cheese, alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes, and lettuce. It was expertly cooked with those nice little grill marks that let you know it's been toasted but not burnt. The pesto was delicious. And the meal filled me up without making me feel stuffed. It'll be tough not to get the same thing the next time I visit, but at the same time I can't wait to try some new things on their menu. By the way it was $11 for the meal. Maybe a little pricey for some but worth it to me to support a local business and to eat better. One major drawback is the parking situation. There are very few spots in their lot. I was committed to trying the place out today, (and I had time to kill) so I didn't mind making several circles of the block waiting for one to open. We've just had a major snowstorm, so nearby public lots were inaccessible for my car but may do in the future. I wouldn't mind a little walk. I guess I should thank you, Big Al's, for saving me the extra gas I've been wasting driving to McDonald's! read more
